Armstrong MetalFest 2025 Schedule

Headlining opening night, Friday, July 11th, Denver thrashers HAVOK are no strangers to the mosh pits, these veterans have unleashed five studio albums – Burn (2009), Time Is Up (2011), Unnatural Selection (2013), Conformicide (2017), V (2020) – and recently surprised fans this past November with the EP “New Eyes”. Music Video – Death Is An Illusion – https://youtu.be/hkUgz-DeFAo

Also supporting the Friday night stage, the Pacific Northwest’s Glyph (ft. members from Gatekeeper, Greyhawk, Hjelvik), which is not just a heavy metal band, they are a crew of intergalactic mercenaries escaping a dying planet in their spaceship, the VSS Dragonlord. Clearly, Glyph isn’t just writing songs, they’re building worlds and they bring it forth in their latest album “Honor, Power, Glory” released in March 2024. Lyric Video – March of the Northern Clan (feat. Nathan Harrison) – https://youtu.be/htSyUb25wD4

Another highlight for Friday is the screaming heavy metal from Calgary’s speed demons Riot City, who bring forth their steel, spikes, and leather! A youthful band that represents the new face of Canadian metal. An amalgam of ripping and hot heavy metal, created in pure and youthful madness, their bullet belts feature two full-length albums, “Electric Elite” (2022), “Burn The Night” (2019), and their latest live album, “Live in Newcastle” (2023). Album Stream – Electric Elite – https://youtu.be/j3hA1nrG7M0

Saturday, July 12th will be headlined by international tour de force, progressive deathcore titans, Chicago’s BORN OF OSIRIS. The group is signed to Sumerian Records and has released seven full-length albums and two EPs. Their album, A Higher Place, reached number 73 on the Billboard 200. Their second full-length album, The Discovery, debuted at 87 on the Billboard 200. The band unveiled their latest single “In Desolation” this past August. Visualizer – In Desolation – https://youtu.be/9OyMRRAq9fI

Also featured on Saturday is AMF alumni Kansas City’s THE BROWNING who will be unleashing their unique eclectic blend of electronicore and deathcore. This past November, they released their sixth album, “OMNI,” which features 10 powerful tracks, including collaborations with Nik Nocturnal and the eponymous song with THE DEFECT. Music Video – OMNI (feat. THE DEFECT) – https://youtu.be/VhyuduP3MdY

Performing for the first time at AMF and adding to the nostalgia of Saturday night, VIRVUM, progressive/technical death metal all the way from Zürich, Switzerland, that many in Canada have been waiting a long time to witness. There’s no better place to see them along with the backdrop of the Canadian Rockies than at AMF 2025. The Cypher Supreme – https://youtu.be/9W9Kp38I9yY

Other treasured highlights of this year’s fest not to miss are Montreal, QC up-and-coming thrashers DROWNING IN BLOOD, who are notorious pit mongers and have made quite a name for themselves in Eastern Canada. Vancouver’s GRAVEMASS might be a new band, but they feature some seriously experienced metalheads from Zimmers Hole, The Golers, Punch Drunk, 3 Inches of Blood, and Revocation. Switzerland’s technical death/black metal Stortregn delivers a mix of charging riffs, blast beats, and brutality that leaves the listener begging for more. The Defect is an electronic rock/metal project created by husband and wife duo – Jonny McBee (The Browning) and Moon McBee. Their debut album “Death X Destiny” was released on February 7, 2025, under the record label FiXT. From the Salish lands of Spokane, WA, Hísemtuks Hími•n introduces their Indigenous melodic black metal of hard-hitting riffs, fast-paced drumming, and a lot of melody. This project has strong roots in the Spokane Tribe/Nez Perce. Most songs are about Native American mythology, history, and folklore.

About: Since 2009 (minus pause years 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid pandemic), West Metal Entertainment and Armstrong Metalfest have not only fostered the talent of hundreds of local bands, but have imported well-known, international acts to the quiet, little Canadian town of Armstrong, British Columbia.

Each year hundreds of metal music fans from Canada and the USA descend into the picturesque Okanagan Valley and under the blistering sun, they spend three days camping, taking in a tonne of heavy metal fun over two days, spectating wrestling events, participating in scavenger hunts, and catching up with their extended metal family.

The festival has seen such renowned headliners as Kataklysm, Cattle Decapitation, Archspire, Nekrogoblikon, Origin, Rivers of Nihil, Warbinger, Fallujah, Striker, and Beyond Creation as well as emerging artists from across North America. At the end of the revelry, the festival disappears without a trace, leaving the landscape as pristine as it has always been.

West Metal Entertainment is a non-profit society that not only puts on the Armstrong Metal Festival every year in Armstrong, B.C. but also gives bands opportunities to play at different venues throughout the region including all-ages shows, to encourage musical passion in kids as well as adults.

Matt Miller, the acclaimed technical death metal virtuoso, has released his first single, “Descent into Violence. ” The song offers a powerful glimpse into the sonic landscape of his seventh album, “Fiber Tormentum,” which will be released on September 12, 2025, via Exitus Stratagem Records.

Driven by explosive instrumentation and guttural passion, “Descent into Violence” is more than just a song—it’s a visceral experience. Lyrically, the track explores themes of desperation and survival, painting the picture of a soul teetering on the edge and fighting to stay alive in a world stacked against them. It’s a cry from the depths, echoing the struggles many face but few can articulate.

This single marks a significant evolution in Miller’s musical journey, transitioning from his previous instrumental works to a full-band composition. Joining him on this project are Jordan Kelso (Drums, Synth), Justice Robinett (Bass), and Biko Wright (Vocals), each bringing unique elements that enrich the album’s dynamic sound.

Miller reflects, “It’s got a lot to offer for the instrumental fans as well as new fans who want to hear the music with vocals and the unique things each of these musicians is bringing to the table.”

Lyrically, “Fiber Tormentum” unfolds as a conceptual narrative, drawing inspiration from science fiction themes. The album envisions a scenario where extraterrestrial forces manipulate human DNA to subjugate humanity, blending speculative fiction with real-world anxieties. The album’s artwork, created by the late Joshua Nassaru Ward of Voraath, adds a poignant visual dimension to the project’s thematic depth..

Fans can anticipate a blend of technical precision and emotive storytelling, influenced by death metal pioneers like Necrophagist and Spawn of Possession and the atmospheric depth of artists such as Devin Townsend and Rivers of Nihil.

Providing a compelling introduction to the forthcoming album’s intricate soundscapes and thematic explorations, listen to “Descent into Violence” via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

“Soaring, crushing, ferocious, emotive, and relentless, are words that strongly describe Decrepit Shed. The album has a lot to offer from various metal sub-genres and encompasses the best elements of technical guitar playing while still having well-written songs”. – Brave Words

“Monument of Velocity” initially had a different title and was not going to be a Matt Miller release and some of the songs were written with vocals in mind and were not going to be instrumental, however it turned out to be the sixth of seven powerful albums in his discography. contains eight tracks full of technical and progressive metal eliciting feelings of suspense, and tension while being fun, melodic and brutally heavy. Miller’s melodic and relentless music has a wide range of influences and is recommended for fans of Jeff Loomis, Necrophagist, and Obscura.” – Rock’n’ Load

“Even though Miller’s music is instrumental, he likes to think of the guitar as a voice. Which in turn makes him ask what is the guitar saying? He is able to easily convey emotion, tone, and a story even without the use of vocals. Throughout his releases, his music has developed a more modern sound in both the music and the production. Musically the songs are more well written and a lot of the ideas he writes are being accurately represented. He is always trying to push himself as a musician and this is reflected in his discography. Influenced primarily by technical and progressive death metal with a dash of power metal and symphonic metal as well, Matt Miller’s music is recommended for fans of Obscura, Dragon Force, and Racer X” – Metal Sucks

“Mr. Miller can shred like his fingers are on fire” Ever-Metal.com

“Matt shreds all over this album with guitar solos galore”. – Transcending the Mundane

“Soaring, crushing, ferocious, and emotive, Miller conveys a wide range of tones throughout his instrumental music. It is recommended for fans of Dragon Force, Racer X, and Jeff Loomis” – Metal-Rules

“For guitar enthusiasts, I guess it is a feast for the eyes and ears.” – Antichrist Magazine

Orchestral blackened death metal outfit Vortex has emerged from the void with their most ambitious release with their next concept record “Alien Realms”, set for release on April 11th, 2025, alongside the first single “When Humans Defy the Void”. With this release, they also announce eastern Canada tour dates with France’s XAON for April followed by European dates in October and November. They comment on the single:

“This song is a melodic assault, blending thrash-driven verses, hyper-melodic choruses, and an epic finale, all immersed in grand, sweeping orchestrations. Bold and daring, humans leave Earth in search of intelligent extraterrestrial life. This track is divided into three distinct sections: the thrashy, aggressive verses; the ultra-melodic choruses; and the glorious, epic ending.”

The band further explains that “Alien Realms” is a natural progression from their previous work. They’ve enhanced the orchestral elements while pushing deeper into blackened death metal territory. The EP explores humanity’s venture into space in search of intelligent life, though what they discover isn’t quite what they expected.

Known for their ability to seamlessly blend technical prowess with emotional depth, Vortex promises performances that showcase both crushing intensity and melodic sophistication. This can be witnessed at one of their live shows or felt through the song “When Humans Defy the Void”. They are recommended for fans of Septicflesh, Shadow of Intent, and Fleshgod Apocalypse.

Canadian College Radio Charts – August 2023 – top 20 loud – #14 Vortex (earshot)

“#8 on Top 10 Quebec Band 2023 Albums – The Future Remains In Oblivion delivers a solid punch with their intense and well-felt symphonic death metal and, with a quality product like this, they have nothing to envy of the big names in the genre.” – Thorium Mag

“The Future Remains in Oblivion is the collision zone between powdered wig classical and battle jacketed death metal that should hold appeal for fans of Fleshgod Apocalypse, Septicflesh and those who like their Suffocation mixed with Dimmu Borgir.” – Decibel Magazine

“The song’s (The Walls) multi-faceted nature is further revealed in harrowing and haughty growls, jolting chords, and fiery sunbursts of sound, as well as through a swirling melodic guitar solo that spectacularly sends the song into the stratosphere. The song’s finale is itself a full-power spectacle that really gets the adrenaline surging.” – No Clean Singing

“If there’s anything that Vortex nails, it’s drama. Album highlight and banger track “First Blood” is simply massive” – Angry Metal Guy

“For some music is pure escapism but does that still hold true when bands like Canadian Melodic Death Metal monster Vortex whisk the would be listener into a bleak world that is recovering from a devastating cataclysm? Scenes of war and survival are punctuated with harrowing strings, technical riffs, and guttural and Black Metal inspired vocals as the band weave cinematic stories and orchestral touches into their third concept album “The Future Remains In Oblivion”” – Metal Noise

“the title-track The Future Remains In Oblivion, a song that will blow your mind with its insane wall of sounds, background orchestrations, epic passages, striking riffs and solos, and visceral yet intricate drums, resulting in one of the most breathtaking moments of the entire album.” – The Headbanging Moose

“An excellent group that you must discover because of the intensity they are able to show” – Ondes Chocs

The metal world is now “Blood Bound” with the release of Hungary’s SIN OF GOD‘s fourth studio album from Exitus Stratagem Records. With influences in thrash, ODM, and blackened and progressive death metal, Sin of God‘s sacrificial offering “Blood Bound” will please both old and new-school death metal fans at the same time. This new full-length presents a collection of variations that exhibit brutality and softness. It is something fans have heard in the past from the band but it has never sounded like this.

“This album was a very painful and gory birth. Blood Bound was born bloodied and beaten. It was hurt by viruses, epidemics, wars, pollution, stupidity, irresponsibility, lies and deception. But finally, Blood Bound is here! Blood Bound is a mirror. Look into it! You will see the past, the present, and the future. Blood Bound is not a concept album, but it is united by the pain and rage that boils inside us. It reflects the best of our current knowledge. We wanted to write something simple and raw, conveying the message clearly but musically interesting, unique, and challenging. If you look at the album artwork, you’ll know exactly what to expect. Blood Bound is (life and) death metal at its finest, not for the faint of heart, that’s for sure!” adds the band.

Recommended for fans of Aborted, Bloodbath, Cattle Decapitation, Cryptopsy, and Psycroptic, Sin of God’s latest album “Blood Bound” is now available as of February 18, 2025, from Exitus Stratagem Records, and available at the following links:

“This isn’t just an all out sonic barrage, though. There are lulls where the “heavy” gets a chance to build before all Hell is once again let loose upon the listener. Lyrics are guttural and harsh, and the guitars have that classic deathmetal sawtooth edge to them. Sin of God manage to pack quite a few riffs in amongst the rapid-fire rhythms, and the drums are impressive. Maintaining a speedy double kick through most songs to keep you heart racing,” – The Moshville Times

““No Return” is an absolutely brutal death metal track, full of raging guitars and non-stop blast beats that create an intense and chaotic atmosphere for the whole song. The lyrics tackle addictive desires and how they can be all-consuming. At the same time, the rather disturbing lyric video sees the lyrics over a viscerally all-too-realistic image of angels and Jesus amongst devils in Hell. It’s all a classic death metal sound and imagery, and it gets really creepy.” – New Noise Magazine

“The upcoming Blood Bound by Sin of God is the fourth full release from the Hungarian Extreme Metal monsters and it is the best record they have ever fucking made. It is as brutal as having a stream roller run over you, slowly crushing every bone and muscle inside your body. It’s as vicious as being dressed in a meat suit while a pack of hungry, rabid dogs are set upon you. And it’s as heavy as having concrete poured down your throat, before your corpse is thrown into the deep, dark sea. It is, quite frankly, fucking brilliant…Let’s face it, Sin of God don’t fuck about and if you’re coming to Blood Bound expecting anything other than the most extreme of metal, then you’re gonna have a bad time and don’t let the door hit you on the way out. Blood Bound is a statement that Sin of God are making a claim for the Extreme Metal throne, and on the strength of this, it’s hard to see how anyone could possibly stop them.” – Black Metal Archive

“It is the sound of a machine gun that immediately kick-starts the album and it comes at you courtesy of all four musicians. It is instantly clear: Blood Bound is brutal, crushing black/death metal with no hint of mercy. The singer Tamás Schupkégel deploys two tones and uses two channels to disseminate his preachy and ominous augury. The guitar is sharp. The warm drum sound and the barrage of artillery that goes boom is probably the album’s highlight. The drummer loves his drum rolls and his blast beats and more power to him… Call yourself a fan of Aeon, Cryptopsy, God Among Insects or Pestilence? Exitus Stratagem has a CD for you! No wonder the cover art depicts a symphonic (so-called) ‘metal’ chick singer and her wimpy accolades. They are being assailed by Sin Of God and their actual metallic and symphonic music. ” – Metallian.com

“Hungarian Extreme Metal masters Sin Of God have signed with Exitus Stratagem Records and will present their new album, Blood Bound, next month. Something that will excite old and new-school Death Metal fans, this new album echoes brutality and softness and is a mark of the challenges faced since 2016’s Aenigmata.” – Metal Talk

“I tell you that if what you are looking for are really strong emotions, this is your album. The six strings are lethal and insidious in equal measure. They cut your throat the same with sharp attacks of tremolo picking, which chill your blood with riffs darker than Lucifer’s soul. The voices are angry and macabre at all times. Yes, they are even when they anecdotally decide to use narrated clean vocals. In general, there is no feeling of respite, neither in instruments nor in vocal cords. Percussion is very extremist. Fast is very fast, and so is resounding. The use of the double pedal deserves special mention. It is a submachine gun that never uses ammunition. Don’t miss the initial ‘Bloodbound‘ nor ‘No Return (From Hell)‘ and ‘The Unbelief‘. ¡What savagery for Odin!” – Broken Tomb Magazine

Texas death metal tyrants Abolishment of Flesh are unshackling their new music video for “Disavowed”, the closing track from their 2023 EP “Resurrecting Misanthropy”. The video continues the band’s tradition of creating intense, uncompromising visual experiences that match their sonic brutality. Ramon Cazares (guitars/bass/drums/vocals) explains the track in his own words:

“I wrote this song a couple of years ago. In a way, this could be a continuation of “Hater of Man”. It’s about a person that’s grown old and became misanthropic. This takes place in the future. It’s a reflection of how the world and society have failed this person. They’ve finally given up on everything and just sit and wait for death.”

At just over four minutes, “Disavowed” represents the band’s evolved sound – more structured yet still maintaining the raw, chaotic energy that has defined their music since their early days. There’s a little bit of something for everyone on the EP; Abolishment of Flesh is not just death metal – they throw in some black metal, melody, thrash, groove, and grind. Combined with anti-human themes, they deliver death and destruction.

“Disavowed” embodies the band’s message of anti-human sentiment, delivered with surgical precision and unbridled aggression. It is recommended for fans of Amon Amarth Kataklysm, and Suffocation.

Watch and listen to the video for “Disavowed” via its premiere on NoCleanSinging HERE.

“Resurrecting Misanthropy” is out now at Abolishmentofflesh.bandcamp.com and Spotify.

“A brutal sonic assault on the senses, there are moments that sound like they were influenced by the early days of Sepultura with the raw, unpolished quality of the recording itself adding to the charm. If you’re new to Abolishment Of Flesh this is a baptism of fire.” – Metal Noise

“A production to seek out by those who enjoy a polished and presumably technical variety of extreme metal that balance tight and vibrant aggression with more elegant and inviting phases defined by an accessible flow and momentum.” – Viking in the Wilderness

“Spiraling and crazed death metal from Amarillo, The Abolishment Of Flesh’s debut proves they aren’t messing around.” – Metal Injection (Inhuman Condition 2018)

FROGG To Deliver A Sonic “Eclipse” of Bold, Modern Metal w/ Debut Album Coming March 2025

L-R: Will Brown (Drums) | Sky Moon Clark (Vocals & Guitar) | Brett Fairchild (Guitar) | Ethan Emery (Bass)

Frogg, the technical metal sensation from New York, USA, announces they will unveil their debut album “Eclipse” in March 2025. A long time in waiting, this first full-length features ten tracks of heavy, raw, progressive, and avant-garde thinking metal.

Over the last two years, the band has been unraveling singles such as “Double Vision Roll”, “Dandelion”, and “Wake Up” with music videos, all of which will be showcased on the record that was co-produced by Frogg guitarist/vocalist Sky Moon Clark and Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me, The Contortionist, Scale the Summit).

The singles each exhibited different stylistic strengths, “Wake Up” being more progressive, “Dandelion” and “Double Vision Roll” more in the vein of something between death metal and prog metal. At the end of the day, Frogg is an amalgamation of the music the quartet enjoys, and that’s what the band is and why they sit in between a few key sub-genres.

“A sonic eclipse where every genre collides—progressive, technical, and just enough death to keep your neck sore for weeks.” adds the band’s newest addition bassist Ethan Emery (Survive The Sun & Absurd Condition).

“The people who are already faithful to FROGG will find as much of the stuff that they signed up for as surprises. We don’t operate in one genre all the time,” adds drummer Will Brown.

Lyrically, the record explores Mythology from various places along with tying tales and emotions together. Fans can expect seasonal singles from Frogg going forward as they already have plans for follow-up singles to come real soon after the album’s release.

FROGG’s main ambition is to hit the live circuit with a perfected performance and its brand-new line-up. With performance in mind, FROGG has been relentlessly rehearsing new original material and old, to deliver an authentic live experience.

Committed to technical excellence and progressive innovation, Frogg is recommended for fans of weird and wild, and fans who appreciate bands such as Protest The Hero, Between The Buried And Me, Zenith Passage, Unexpect, and Obscura.

“Eclipse” is due out on March 7, 2025, and is available for pre-order at https://froggofficial.bandcamp.com.

“Weirdo avant-garde metal band Frogg have jut shared a video for “Double Vision Roll,” and, boy, is it quirky. If you’re not yet familiar with Frogg, they are all about delivering a weird and wonderful live experience They experiment with different world instruments and songwriting ideas, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in heavy music, and you can see a little bit of that on display here. The song was produced by Frogg guitarist/vocalist Sky Moon Clark and Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me, The Contortionist, Scale the Summit). Frogg are recommended for fans of weird and wild, as well as those who appreciate a little technicality in their music.” – Decibel Magazine

“Frogg cover seemingly contradictory bases of portentous tech-death, galloping melodic thrash and hopeful, opne chord djent. It’s smart musical alignment with their theme of something new rising from the ashes of the old.” – Metal Hammer (2020 – A Reptilian Dystopia – EP)

“FROGG is a dangerous force of Technical Metal making themselves known!” – The Circle Pit

“Technical Death rising star” – GhostCult Mag

“The music is impressively performed and written. Crazy technical menageries of Adderall-fueled obsession meshed with emotive melody just spilling out everywhere. It’s a great time, and definitely worth checking out. Definitely a band to be watching in the future.” – No Clean Singing

“The guitar work is beyond phenomenal, and the vocals are just as catchy. They aren’t 100% death metal but are really a blend of modern tech metal and death metal. I’m extremely excited to see if the band is cooking up any live shows to promote the release and am definitely keeping my eyes on this project from here on out. If you want that Decapitated/Arsis/Obscura blend of groove and technicality Frogg is meant for you.” – Technical Music Review (2020 – A Reptilian Dystopia – EP)

“This is an incredible EP, guys. Every one of these songs has made it into heavy rotation, and I am honestly so excited to hear more in the future.” – Metal Trenches (2020 – A Reptilian Dystopia – EP)

“The quality on show here is amazing for a first release and has left us salivating at the prospect of their debut album [9/10]” – Metal Noise (2020 – A Reptilian Dystopia – EP)

“Bursting into life with a colossus bang, it’s a technical monstrosity that greets listeners with Ancient Storm. It’s wild, it’s nasty but it’s built on a foundation of sharp riffs and ferocious groove.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life (2020 – A Reptilian Dystopia – EP)

“A Reptilian Dystopia” shines with technical sophistication” – Artnoir (2020 – A Reptilian Dystopia – EP)

While each one of them brings something special out of the broad Prog, Metal & Mania spectrum, most haven’t played in the Bavarian capital before or rarely visited Southern Germany until now.

About The Bands – https://progmetalmania.com/en/Bands/

SCAR SYMMETRY – With legendary guitar wizard Per Nilsson as a driving force, the Swedish band perfectly blends mind-blowing riffs with virtuoso soloing, built up on mighty synth layers, complex yet groovy rhythms, and topped by a vigorous dual vocal attack. Fascinating Metal fans all over the world, they will play their first show in Munich after 12 years!

DISILLUSION – With their special blend of Progressive Death Metal, the German band takes their audience from the top of the world to the end of the sea. By creating dense, multi-layered soundscapes and versatile movements at the forefront of artistic concepts, they already released three rich, fully matured Metal masterpieces.

OBSIDIOUS – Named after black volcanic glass, the group’s moniker exudes something dark, of fiery origin, and metaphorically offers a nearly limitless platform for expression and advancement. Having caught the Extreme Metal scene by storm with their iconic debut in 2022, the international Tech Death powerhouse is set to blow the roof off at Prog Metal Mania 2025!

TURBULENCE – The Lebanese masters of musical story-telling even make a robot dream with their marvelous soundscapes and virtuosic playing, inviting their listeners on captivating, emotional journeys.

JOHN MACALUSO – Born in the US, now living in Italy, the legendary drummer has already played on over 200 albums (ARK, Michael Romeo, Powermad, Yngwie Malmsteen…) and countless tours. He will present a special show for fans of hot rhythms and cool stories with his terrific, versatile playing and some glimpses behind the scenes.

XAON – The French Symphonic Death Metal band spreads its wings on the hunt for nothing less than epicness. By melting the raw energy of Extreme Metal with the finesse and vehemence of a mighty orchestra, their music is absolutely mind-blowing, yet with an amazing sense for details – Brutal and beautiful at the same time.

VULKAN – The Swedish band with the eruptive name offers mesmerizing melodies to immerse yourself in, served on a layer of intriguing rhythms with a true sense for incredibly atmospheric soundscapes.

LOCH VOSTOK – By bringing together raw beauty with complexity and finesse, their music comes along brutal yet with a catchy grooviness, delivering fat choruses, shredalicious solos, and poisonous hooks.

POEM – There’s a certain beauty in melancholy, and the Greek quartet absolutely brings this to the top with its unique, intense compositions. The outstanding voice and expressive performance of singer George Prokopiou make each song a highly emotional experience.

F.K.Ü. – Since there’s a huge overlapping between the Horror and the Metal communities, it seems like a great idea to bring these two beasts together, and F.K.Ü. clearly pull out all the stops on this. Heavily inspired by Freddy Krueger & Co, these four Swedish guys will bring Metal and Mania to Munich.

AEONS – Hailing from the Isle of Man, the Progmetal powerhouse will come to Germany with three albums under their belt, taking their audience from the plains of the American West to ancient Greece, and even to the vast reaches of space with their mighty, musical tales.

SOULSPLITTER – Following their combined musical vision, the German arts collective melts various stylistic splitters into a soulful, new whole. Over the past years, they delved deeper into a specific aspect of their signature sound where heavy guitars and intricate rhythms meet classical piano in a prominent position.

IHLO – The band from Scotland blends modern Progressive Metal with electronic and pop influences to create a sound that is huge musically, emotionally crushing, and full of hooks. Their debut recently got a re-issue via Kscope, and with album No2 showing up on the horizon, they also might bring new music to Munich in May.

JESTER’S TEARS – Even though the name of this Munich-based band might be quickly associated with an album title by Marillion, it is rather the multi-layered symbol for their music, and was actually inspired by Venice and its famous carnival. The five musicians will open Prog Metal Mania with their powerful mix of wonderful playfulness and complex, yet accessible songs.

Exitus Stratagem Records announces their signing of Hungarian extreme metal masters SIN OF GOD for their fourth studio album “Blood Bound” out February 2025. Following their album “Aenigmata” released in 2016, “Blood Bound” has come a long way from its writing inception in 2019, and unfortunate setbacks with lineup changes and COVID to finally make its way to the studio in 2022/23 with the mixing and mastering done by the super-talented Sam Winslow in 2024.

With influences in thrash, ODM, and blackened and progressive death metal, Sin of God‘s next sacrificial offering will please both old and new-school death metal fans at the same time. This new full-length presents a collection of variations that exhibit brutality and softness. It is something fans have heard in the past from the band but it has never sounded like this.

“We all think fans will love it. It’s somewhat different from its predecessors. It’s more complex and based on modern death metal. We built Blood Bound musically on contrasts. There are amazingly fast parts (260 BPM,) but really slow parts as well.” adds guitarist Tamás Kis.

Exploring our present society, “Blood Bound” resonates with everything surrounding us, from the good and the bad to the beautiful and ugly, to life and death.

“We are in decline and we haven’t got much time before we hit the bottom. There is less and less beauty in our present world. We are rapidly marching towards the rotting chaos. People do nothing about it. They destroy but do not build. So let it be! As you look at our album artwork, it is metaphorically based on humanity’s current state in the light of human history. We wanted it to be realized in the style of Renaissance paintings therefore the contrast is extremely sharp between beauty and uglyness. Pure and evil. Perfect and deformed. There are also religious references, and Biblical characters, too.” says Kis.

“Blood Bound” is not a concept album, but it is united by the pain and rage that boils inside and felt over seven tracks that are simple and raw, yet ferocious and gentle. To give fans their first experience with the album, Sin of God is unveiling the first single “No Return” accompanied by an animated video. The song is about a person who cannot get rid of drugs and sacrifices everything is going to hell.

The band comments:

“No Return is our favorite song on Blood Bound. It is the essence of what we want to express musically and lyrically as well. The fall of our present society. That’s what it’s all about. Our vocalist Tamás Schupkégel wrote the lyrics. On first hearing it is about a drug addict descending into madness, falling into his very own hell which he created from the many pains he experienced and committed towards others during his life. We consume, we devour, we destroy. We create non-existent problems for ourselves while not dealing with the real ones. It’s so comfortable. Sticking our heads in the sand. Only our comfort is important. We are addicted to our ego. While the trees and waters disappear and only the sand remains. The emptiness. The loneliness. The pain. We build our hell. And there is no return!”

“The record is just killer, full of menacing death metal that doesn’t lean too hard into the old- or new-school sound; think a crossbreed of Book of Black Earth, Deicide, and Fleshgod Apocalypse sans opera, and you’ll have some idea of what these guys are like. Modern death metal fans will love the band’s technicality and production, while classic headbangers will dig their atmosphere and badass riffs. Definitely get into them.” – Metalsucks (Aenigmata – 2016)

“Aenigmata is the band’s latest release, a merciless, destructive Death Metal album in its finest form. Inspired by the occult writings of Alchemy and the dissection of the faith in mankind, the album delivers much darkened and more ferocious sounds than the previous releases. Having a close kinship with bands like Morbid Angel, Immolation, Nile, Behemoth, Krisiun, Dead Congregation and the likes in terms of sonority, the opus is a perfect blending of unilluminated Traditional Death Metal & remorseless Brutal/Technical Death Metal. The 09 tracked album is likely to be embraced by the fans of OSDM & Dark Themed Technical Death Metal.” – Extreminal (Aenigmata – 2016)

“The Hungarians from Sinf Of God play high-energy death metal, and when their riffs hit our eardrums, you get the impression that Attila himself is leading the wild hordes, leaving behind fields of destruction strewn with the corpses of enemies.” – KVLT (Aenigmata – 2016)

“There’s very little to complain about “Aenigmata”, it sounds damn good, both from a musical and production perspective. The songs are varied and technical and it took a few spins for the record to settle but that normally is a good thing as it grows for each spin… it’s a solid Death Metal record and with this, I should go easily to it when digging out Brutal music.” – Metal Kaoz – (Aenigmata – 2016)

0 Out Now! Brian Kingsland (NILE, Imperishable, Enthean) Releases Classical / Spanish Guitar Album “Translation”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 8, 2025

Out Now! Brian Kingsland (NILE, Imperishable, Enthean) Releases Classical / Spanish Guitar Album “Translation”

Known for his role in extreme metal bands such as NILE, Imperishable, and Enthean, composer /guitarist and vocalist Brian Kingsland is sharing his other passion in music, with his debut classical / Spanish guitar album entitled “Translation” due out on January 8, 2025.

Kingsland‘s musical taste has always been wide from his pursuit of extreme metal to learning blues licks, and jazz theory, to impossible techniques. Classical guitar is another evolution in his musical journey. Beginning private classical studies in the early 2000s, Kingsland performed live many times, but never recorded any of the material. After many years of making heavy metal records, he felt it was time to reinvest in his classical pursuits. Performing compositions from some of his favorite composers Francisco Tarrega, Agustín Barrios Mangoré, Antonio Lauro, Andrés Segovia, Heitor Villa-Lobos, and Isaac Albéniz, the 11-track tribute can be best described as a beautiful and poetic of musical interpretation of some of the world’s greatest classical guitarists.

“I have always been attracted to Spanish and South American classical guitar music. I find it rhythmically diverse and harmonically rich. It has unique challenges that deviate from the traditional classical guitar. I think guitar and music fans alike will enjoy hearing another side of my musical expression,” adds Kingsland.

With classical music, particularly solo performances, it is up to the performer to interpret their vision of the song. Although he or she may not be the author, they’re the vessel for the music to be expressed. Thus, Kingsland believes it is a collaboration, and with “Translation” he wants listeners to join him on a journey through Spain and South America to appreciate the genius of these composers, and be enveloped in these wonderful masterpieces.

Edmonton, Canada’s Culled started in early 2017 with the intention of embracing the contrast of slow crushing sludge and doom riffs with the blistering speed and chaos of grindcore ripe with messages of peace, and love that implore the need for empathy in today’s unpredictable and unstable political climate. Now in 2024, they have their second album coming out, “Psycles” on July 26th. Ahead of the full release, they have a single “Coercion” out, that delves into topics of authoritarianism as they comment on below:

“We wanted to give a taste of where we can land when we are not directly focused on the contrasts between chaotic grinding speed against sludging doom. Mid-paced groovy with an infectious and memorable hook helping to give weight to the lyrical theme of corruption being the core of authoritarianism and an essential need of our society, and our one true religion.”

The band goes on to explain that the groove in the middle of the EP adds a touch of rest from the chaos and a repeating theme that can bring the message home. Featuring members with a historical impact in the Western Canadian heavy music scene, including former and current members of bands such as Thorazine, Disciples of Power, WAKE, and Exit Strategy, Culled is known for their intensity of performance and message of integrity fueled with compassion and empathy. They are recommended for fans of Nasum, Pig Destroyer, and Neurosis.

“Political tensions in the world are running high, and Culled want you to know that they’re not down with it. Combining their searing take on the state of the world with a sludgy grind assault, Culled back their statements with tight songwriting and aggressive performance. On their debut album Thin the Herd, Fail to Learn, Culled wrap angular grindcore in thick sludge, spitting out blasts, mosh parts and distinctive vocals that reflect the band’s disgusted mindset.” – Decibel Magazine

“Sludge grind is one of those things that shouldn’t really exist and yet somehow Culled make it work. They sound absolutely colossal on their new track “Contagion,” a nearly nine minute epic that manages to combine everything that makes the band great. The stop/start madness and dynamic interplay of this song speaks to the band’s talent as songwriters. Meanwhile, the guitar tone alone speaks volumes to what this band has come to represent. With punk fringes on some truly punishing tracks, it’s hard not to be fascinated by the morbid horror of the band. The lead single, ‘Contagion,’ is a mesmerizing ode. It comes from their upcoming LP, Thin The Herd, Fail To Learn, due out October 26th on Hibernation Release. It’s hard to balance two genres that seem so diametrically opposed whilst simultaneously sneaking in moments of pure explorations into the sublime. Experimental, genre bending and clearly forward thinking, ‘Contagion’ is a triumph for a rising force.” – Metal Injection

“Edmonton, AB grind outfit Culled push the boundaries of the genre on their debut full-length, Thin the Herd, Fail to Learn. The quartet incorporate slow, sludgy grooves and doom-laden riffs into their discordant grindcore, resulting in a contrast of sounds that is jarring yet complementary… Thin the Herd, Fail to Learn is an impressive debut that showcases a battle of conflicting sounds throughout its 25-minute runtime. What makes it work is Culled’s thoughtful approach to song composition and structure, along with socio-political lyrical content to match the angst-filled emotions that their music emanates.” – Exclaim!
