Out Today! Moonlight Desires’ Love of The 80’s Soundtrack Lives On “At The Movies”

Heavy’d Up Covers of Glory of Love (Peter Cetera), Hungry Eyes (Eric Carmen),
The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough (Cyndi Lauper),
Don’t You Forget About Me (Simple Minds)

Canada’s Moonlight Desires return with another heavy dose of 80’s childhood nostalgia with their next cover EP “At The Movies”, out now, as of July 17th via Infamous Butcher Records. Taking you on a sonic trip down memory lane, Moonlight Desires convert classic movie soundtracks from Dirty Dancing, The Goonies, Karate Kid, and The Breakfast Club into modern sounding hard rock bangers! The EP follows 2017’s “Just The Hits: 1981-1985”, which transformed timeless hits such as “Sunglasses At Night” by Corey Hart and “Something About You” by Level 42 into party rock anthems along with their 2014 debut album “Frankie Goes To Hamilton” that delivered a rollicking cover arrangement of classic love songs.

“At The Movies” is now available on Bandcamp plus Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, and all other digital platforms HERE.

EP stream via YouTube.

Vocalist/guitarist Trevor Ziebarth comments:

“I wanted to pay homage to the most nostalgic 80’s movies from my youth to bring some happiness back to 2020! These movies were iconic and the singles are larger-than-life! I always wondered how they would sound all Heavy’d up!”

Moonlight Desires
might only play 80s cover songs, but you’d be wrong to dismiss them as just another cover band. Formed by long-time Hamilton, ON musician Trevor Ziebarth (Actor/Writer/Composer on Teletoon’s adult comedy series Sons of Butcher), Moonlight Desires is his ode to the raunchy romances and youthful misadventures of summer’s past. By re-working synth-laden pop hits of the 1980s, Ziebarth manages to turn familiar guilty pleasures into modern, guitar-driven rock anthems.

“For those unfamiliar, I created a television show with my brother Jay Ziebarth back in 2005 called ‘Sons of Butcher’. It was a unique adult comedy cartoon series that aired on Teletoon and was sold to over 200 countries around the world. The show was the first to blend video heads into a cartoon world. The Sons of Butcher characters worked in a butcher shop by day and were a spandex-clad rock outfit by night, with my character (Ricky Butcher) relentlessly trying to make it as a big rock star. As a companion to the show, Sons of Butcher recorded and released a few comedy rock albums using songs from the show as inspiration, and travelled across Canada twice on a sponsored tour by Teletoon. As a live band, Sons of Butcher used to perform heavied-up covers of 80s songs and they often became fan/crowd favourites. Ultimately, I noticed the positive response and it led to the formation of Moonlight Desires in 2013.” says Trevor Ziebarth.

As an homage to their Canadian music heritage, the band decided to take their name from the popular 80s song ‘Moonlight Desires’ by iconic singer/songwriter Gowan.

“I wanted to have a direct (1980s song) reference …but I also thought it would fit in nicely with the band’s heavier direction,” says Ziebarth.

Track Listing:
1. Glory of Love (4:02) (Peter Cetera cover)
2. Hungry Eyes (3:44) (Eric Carmen cover)
3. The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough (3:09) (Cyndi Lauper cover)
4. Don’t You Forget About Me (4:05) (Simple Minds cover)
EP Length: 15:01

“Just the tonic we need in these times, putting a little smile on your face and plenty of riffs for your bucks.” – Get Ready To Rock

“I just wish there were more than the four songs on here, because what’s on offer is great. I’ve played the EP on a loop since I popped it on to review it and it’s definitely going to keep on playing. None of the tracks are hugely different from their original recordings, but it doesn’t matter. They’re all just designed for being sung out loud, and you can warble along in the kitchen to these new versions as easily as you could have back when shoulder pads were in fashion… A great little compilation that will raise a smile as much as your singing voice.” – Moshville Times

“The Canadian band Moonlight Desires, who specialize in turning ’80s pop songs into guitar-driven songs, turn to classic ’80s movie songs for the four track EP At The Movies… It’s a fun blast from the past that will appeal to those of us who saw those movies in the theater when they were originally released along with the younger generation who discovered them via streaming services or cable TV.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

About:

DOUBLE EXPERIENCE have performed across 15 countries, playing everywhere from video game museums to tattoo conventions to Ottawa and Montreal ComicCons as well as many other gatherings such as MAGFest and GuardianCon as well as showcases at Canadian Music Week and Indie Week Canada. Their adventures have been supported by international radio, festivals and television alike, culminating with an entire nerd-rock exposé and performance on Global TV in Canada. The band recently released their FACTOR-funded single / music video, “The Pilot” off their upcoming fourth album “Rock (Geology)” to follow 2016’s break out, “Unsaved Progress”, an album that included their much loved single “The Glimmer Shot”; a Destiny-themed rock anthem, which earned them accolades from the creators of the video game itself plus their cover of Blue Oyster Cult’s “Godzilla”.

“Their new album is upbeat and full of awesome tracks, leading straight into the first song, ‘So fine‘, which instantly gets you into the mood of this album.” – Ram Zine (UK)

“Verifying my “nerd” suspicions, they began and closed an original song with Darth Vader’s theme, the Imperial March, and I couldn’t have been happier about it. In addition to their set of mainly original music, they also included a cover of Blue Oyster Cult’s Godzilla, which was fitting with their stoner vibe, especially considering there is also a Fu Manchu version.” – Spotlight Ottawa

“this band is passionate about video games which is reflected in the underlying themes of their music. More apparent to non-video game savvy listeners is that Double Experience are a solid rock band with well crafted and catchy tunes that have crossover appeal to fans of different music genres.” – Forget The Box

“The songs on this, 9 track, album are narrative driven and mammoth in proportion. Songs like ‘AAA‘ and ‘Godzilla‘ are glorious sagas of esoteric depth. There is a power on this album that is both new and old.” – 925 Rebellion

About:What does a DIY Canadian rock duo do after charting on the National Loud Chart, releasing a viral video-game anthem and touring the globe in the wake of critical reviews and mainstream press?

Whatever they want.

The newest newest offering of hard-rock mad-science from Double Experience is “Rock (Geology)”; a continuation of the band’s 5 year series of music released on collectible trading cards. The first, FACTOR-funded single, “The Pilot” was released on November 16, 2017.

In fact, the only thing ‘conventional’ about Double Experience is their undying affinity for comic convention culture. The band has performed for audiences at Ottawa and Montreal ComicCon as well as many other gatherings such as MAGFest and GuardianCon. Their Destiny-inspired single “The Glimmer Shot” even earned in-game accolades from Bungie, the developer of the multi-million user franchise. Double Experience’s quirky lyrical content has connected with hundreds of thousands of Spotify listeners and their undeniable live show has been perfected over hundreds of performances at clubs and festivals across 16 countries.

Double Experience’s DIY-story and business acumen has been shared at music industry conventions (IndieWeek) and hundreds of high schools and colleges across the world. Since the band’s inception in 2014, Band members Ian Nichols (vocals, bass) and Brock Tinsley (guitar) have established themselves as the nucleus of a dynamic alchemy of players, collaborating with musicians such as Fred Mascherino (Taking Back Sunday, Terrible Things) and Steve Bache (He is Legend) in studio and onstage.

You have been slain by the band biography… Continue?
