About:

Edmonton’s own Protosequence offer a rush of groovy guitar parts met with story-filled lyrics and serene, landscape-sized instrumentals that roll like hills into a valley.

Protosequence is a reference to the original genome where all life began — much like the band, which existed in principle before they even had a presence. Each of the members were lying in wait to be activated and become the strain that is now Protosequence. Kyle Hunter (guitar) was constantly crafting near-complete songs that were ready to be realized. It did not take long for Kyle and Logan Vars (drums) to finally meet. It seemed as though there were two projects destined to combine into a singular effort to form the final line-up for the band: Logan (drums), Kyle (guitar), Parker (guitar), Joseph McKee (vocals), and Ryan Schaffler (ex-bassist) who is now replaced by Jacob Teeple. Members have a long history in the Edmonton music scene, playing in bands like Anubian and In The Midst Of A Murder since the early 2000s.

The band draws influence from acts like All Shall Perish, August Burns Red, and The Black Dahlia Murder. With a foothold on their influences, they root their music in technicality while layering emotional, yet gruff vocals weaved into every track. The band transitions seamlessly through djent riffs, grinding drums, and groove elements, making their sound versatile and ever-changing. Each live performance is crafted like an album played from front to back, with each song bearing a story and painting the room like a canvas — leaving the colours and experiences on each audience member.

The band will be releasing their new EP “Biophagous” on August 18th, 2017 to follow their 2016 debut EP “Schizophrene”.

“Edmonton’s Protosequence perform an agile balancing act on the new song “Shepherd” we’re bringing you from their forthcoming EP, Biophagus, a high-wire performance that deftly straddles a stylistic divide without ever losing their path forward.” No Clean Singing

“In the vein of bands like All Shall Perish & Born of Osiris, Protosequence kick proceedings off with the furiously tech riffing of Parasitic, a wild & untamed slab of death metal. That is until a surprising tempo change that brings in some keyboards & more classic metal sounding guitar solo. It’s a damn strong start, one that leaves you wondering just what more Biophagous has to offer.” – Games, Braaaiiins And A Headbanging Life

“Protosequence is an act of quality over quantity.  I get seriously lost in their music, be it through a spine-damaging headbanging session (“DFL”) or stretch of melodic introspection (“Shepherd”).  Biophagous offers up another nice showcase of the band’s skill across a variety of substyles and paces.” – Metal Trenches

“Protosequence takes the insane melodic riffage of metalcore bands like August Burns Red or Novelists, and mixes them with tech death elements of bands like The Black Dahlia Murder which makes for what I think could be a band that has the potential to break through and make it huge…Biophagus is of another caliber, every aspect of it is flawless, and will not only be in my playlist but should be in everyone else’s as well. Whatever you do, do not sleep on this band. Make sure you pick up Biophagus when it releases August 18th! ” – Blood Rock Media

“Incorporating elements from deathcore, technical death metal, and, yes, even djent, Protosequence manages to maintain the listener’s interest while developing an identity that is not only unique to Canada, but to the world. ” – It Djents

“Traversing between djent and technical progressive metal” – Somberlane

Drawing influence from acts like All Shall Perish, August Burns Red, and The Black Dahlia Murder, PROTOSEQUENCE root their music in technicality while layering emotional, yet gruff vocals weaved into every track. The band transitions seamlessly through djent riffs, grinding drums and groove elements, making their sound versatile and ever-changing.  Their latest EP “Biophagous” was unleashed this past August to follow their 2016 debut “Schizophrene”.

Teaming up with Sick Drummer Magazine, PROTOSEQUENCE‘s drummer Logan Vars is showcasing his pounding force and technicality with a new playthrough for the band’s track “Shepherd”.

Vars comments:

“Shepherd is the most melodic and “pretty” song off our latest EP “Biophagous”. It’s also the most groove oriented. Starting out mellow, and coming to a climax near the end; I absolutely love playing this song. Probably the easiest Protosequence song as far as drums go. I use this as a warm up to get me started. It’s a nice low stress, high energy song to play along to. Once again, I’d like to thank Nick and Andrew from Nick Laird Videography, and Echo Tree Audio, respectively, for all their hard work on the video. I also want to thank my band mates Joe, Parker, Kyle, and Jacob for being such handsome gentlemen, Cara for being so amazing, and Sick Drummer for premiering this video.  This video is filmed in one take (2 cameras on tripods, and one handheld) with no sample replacing and no editing. Thanks for the support, go tell your dog that you love him/her. “

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – August 8, 2017

For fans of After The Burial, Rings of Saturn, All Shall Perish, August Burns Red, Born of Osiris

NoCleanSinging Premiere PROTOSEQUENCE’s Next Assault “Shepherd” + New EP “Biophagous” Out Aug 18th

Releasing their first single / video “Parasitic” last month in support of their upcoming EP “Biophagous” to follow their 2016 debut “Schizophrene”, the quintet has teamed up with NoCleanSinging.com for the exclusive premiere of their next single “Shepherd”.

“Shepherd holds closer to my heart than any other song I have written. The story is molded from a young man to present day. I’ve taken advice too literal as a young man, missing out on a lot of important, meaningful experiences with family and friends. It wasn’t until I was older; I realized my Shepherd was only keeping me safe from destructive feedback. I wrote this song angry, but forgiving in the end, for I was ignorant. Hopefully others can see light through these words just as much as I do.” comments vocalist Joseph McKee.

“Biophagous” is due out August 18, 2017 and available for pre-order on the band’s Bandcamp here plus will be available on all major online retailers.

“Traversing between djent and technical progressive metal” – Somberlane

“This EP is bursting with technical hooks and ripping solos that take more than a few cues from the technical death metal camp.  In fact, if we consider a spectrum between these genres, I would say that Schizophrene falls closer to groups like The Zenith Passage than Whitechapel.  Also, mad props for the seemless shifts between melodic and harsh riffs while maintaining aggression in the vocals.” – Metal Trenches (EP Review Schizophrene)

“Musically speaking, they share as much in common with Periphery as they do with Lost Soul. While there will be some who are turned off by the noise gates and the disparity of the chunky lows and the sharp highs, I think it’s one of the band’s biggest strengths. It represents the merging of two very technical subgenres and presents each of them in the context of the other. It’s kind of a hard thing to explain without listening; check out “Guardian” and follow it up with “Darkness Weeps” for the best illustration of this dichotomy.” – Toilet ov Hell (EP Review Schizophrene)

L-R: Devin Babcock (Guitar), Chris Brown (Vocals), Jayde Penner (Guitar), Shaun Streeper (Bass), Bevin Booth (Drums)
Credit: Patrick O’Connor/Jimber Jam Studios

Hailing from Grand Prairie, AB, DEVOLVER is an explosive, progressive, groovy, melodic quintet inspired by the extremity of bands like Soilwork, Whitechapel, In Flames, Born of Osiris and Gojira. Formed in 2015, the band unleashed their self-titled debut album in 2016 that featured a variety of vocalists such as Ryan Sorensen (Apex, Fortress), Jamison Friesen (Renewal, Singularity), Anthony Notarmaso (Stillness) and Scott Oatway (Terminal). The eight track deliverance has been a stepping stone for the five piece to grow and become a much talked about band on the Alberta metal scene along with sharing the stage with Protest The Hero, Protosequence, Windy City Slaughter and more.

Now with full time vocalist Chris Brown to solidify their line up, DEVOLIVER are satisfying the growing hunger of their legions of fans with the debut of his aggressive tendencies on the new single “A Life Lost” premiered exclusively on PureGrainAudio.com.

The band comments:

“This new single will be a natural follow-up. It should also further the point that Devolver’s music will always move forward and progress from release-to-release. The experience we want to give fans is one of anticipation, surprise and excitement with each release. We are not one to write the same content over and over, and we want our fans to be aware of that with each release. Our sound will always move forward.”

“Devolver uses melodies, intensity, and a variety of vocalists to hook you, reeling you from song to song making this such a welcoming and comfortable listen. I don’t mean they’re “easy listening,” there heavy as f***, I mean there’s always something different, you’ll never get bored while diving into this debut.” – Vulture Hound

“If After The Burial and The Ghost Inside had a lovechild, it would be Devolver. These guys blew me away with how professional, well written, and how well structured they’ve presented themselves with their Self-Titled record. Each song has its own personality, while still maintaining a signature sound. The breakdowns are simple, yet effective in each song. There is dynamic tension and then well-needed release throughout the record, and it’s downright masterful. This album is captivating, and I recommend anyone that is a fan of metal to check this out.” – Bucketlist Music Reviews

About:

It is inevitable that many bands today focus and depend on technology or image but completely forget what it feels like to be in a violent, hard hitting, and charismatic and professional metal show. Mounted from A to Z for choreography, light show, and stage presence, the band is not only known for the music, but giving the people what they want; a notorious live show & a run for their money.

“Wormz”, is Death Lullaby’s newest entity which was recorded, mixed & mastered by Chris Donaldson in Montreal’s renowned metal studio: The Grid. Containing 11 bone-crushing tracks that feature guest appearances such as: Fred Beaulieu from Beheading Of A King, Dan Mongrain from Voivod & Martyr and Chris Donaldson fromCryptopsy, this album will be sure to raise a few eyebrows.

With only the release of their 1st EP “Fractal” in late 2012, the 5 members have shown off their music all around the east coast of Canada and have done the 2 biggest Metal Festivals in Canada in 2013 (Heavy MTL, & Amnesia Rockfest). Opening for acts such as Born Of Osiris, Veil Of Maya, After The Burial, Ion Dissonance, I the Breather,Structures, Within The Ruins, Northlane, Vildhjarta, Origin, Beneath The Massacre, Cryptopsy and Hate Eternal, the band is in no struggle to take on bigger and better things.

It is no doubt that the 5 members put in the hours to attain a level that allows them to play with such reputable metal artists, and have proved time and time again, that they never fail to deliver. Not only is DL’s focus unbreakable,  but the work ethic involved justifies every stepping stone of their career.

MetalInjection Video Premiere DEATH LULLABY ‘Renegade’
New Album ‘Wormz’ Out April 15th via Famined Records

Upcoming Show Dates:

April 8 – Montreal, QC @ La Vitrola – info
April 16 – Granby, QC @ Les Chevaliers De Colomb – Crush Your Fest – info
May 22 – Quebec City, QC – L’Anti Bar – info

Set to unleash their debut album ‘Wormz’ via Famined Records on April 15th, Montreal, QC’s DEATH LULLABY has teamed up with MetalInjection.netfor the video premiere of ‘Renegade’, which is one of eleven bone-crushing tracks from the release that features guest appearances from Fred Beaulieu (Beheading Of A King), Dan Mongrain (Voivod, Martyr) and Chris Donaldson (Cryptopsy) whom also produced, mixed and mastered the album at The Grid.

“”Renegade” represents Death Lullaby’s sound entirely, very aggressive, raw and punchy rhythms fused with melody and in some ways, technically challenging. A short and sweet track, but jam-packed with riffs that’ll make you count, and think to yourself: what the hell was that? A hint of sing-along chorus on this track, which if you are a fan of….is done more constructively throughout the full album with tracks like “They Dig/They Devour”, “Conquer All” & “Rainmaker”. For definite fans of Veil Of Maya, Born Of Osiris, All Shall Perish, Chimaira and Lamb Of God.” comments drummer Kevin Alexander.

“What impressed me most was that Take The Throne aren’t trying to jam a million different ideas into each song, they know what they do best and stick to it.” – Lambgoat

“Not gonna lie…I loved the fuck out of this song (Deserter). Maybe even more than Thrillhouse enjoys sex with barely legal scene girls. Ok… Maybe not THAT much, but it’s still a brilliant song. Not even once did I find myself thinking “I wish they did this” or “why did they do that”, and I’m eagerly awaiting any further submissions these guys want to send our way.” – I Probably Hate Your Band
