Ottawa, ON progressive metal newcomers CANDOR ZEALOT continue their singles rollout with their third unveiled track and music video, “Dark Desires,” featuring guest vocals from Montreal musician Johnny Franco. The track appears on the band’s upcoming debut EP “Revolt!”, due out December 4, 2026.

Emerging from the creative evolution of former Wacken Metal Battle Canada champions The Slyde, Candor Zealot blends progressive rock, heavy metal, and infectious songwriting into a sound equally informed by Rush, Coheed & Cambria, Dream Theater, Billy Talent, and Megadeth. With “Dark Desires,” the band delivers one of its most melodic and accessible offerings to date while continuing to showcase the technical musicianship and thoughtful lyricism that have become defining traits of the project.

Musically, “Dark Desires” draws inspiration from progressive rock giants Rush and Coheed & Cambria, weaving together melodic dual-guitar arrangements, unconventional song structures, and a mid-tempo pop-rock sensibility.

“Lyrically, this song is an indirect conversation between two people with similar perspectives on interacting and arguing with others on social media platforms. The narrative hints at how this kind of behaviour is ultimately a futile experiment and a waste of one’s time,” explains vocalist and guitarist Nate Silva.

To further elevate the track, Candor Zealot enlisted Montreal vocalist Johnny Franco for a guest vocal appearance, bringing an additional dynamic element to the song’s conversational theme.

Accompanying the single is a lighthearted music video that trades dark subject matter for competitive fantasy. Shot at Danireon Cards & Games in Ottawa, the video follows the band members participating in a Magic: The Gathering tournament under various aliases while chaos unfolds around them.

The clip also features special appearances from Ottawa musicians Troy Huizinga (The Escape Society, Satellite Birdhouse), who performs bass in the video, and Matt Babineau, who appears on drums. The video was shot and directed by Ryan Stacey.

The band’s upcoming EP “Revolt!” showcases a wide spectrum of themes and influences, ranging from political commentary and social division to personal struggle, healing, and relationships. Throughout the release, Candor Zealot blends progressive musicianship with memorable hooks and modern hard-rock accessibility.

Candor Zealot is made up of seasoned musicians with deep roots in Canada’s metal scene, including former members of Annihilator and The Slyde. Frontman Nate Silva (vocals/guitar), formerly of The Slyde, is an international touring artist and academic researcher on chiptune music. Guitarist Chris Gagnon, based in Ottawa, is a versatile performer active in eight tribute bands covering acts from Queen to Rage Against the Machine. Drummer Dino Soares, a longtime collaborator with Silva since their teenage years, continues to freelance in Kingston’s music scene. On bass, Alberto Campuzano, formerly of Annihilator, also performs with Toronto’s Metallica tribute act Sandman. Collectively, the band brings decades of experience and a proven pedigree, highlighted by Silva, Soares, and Campuzano’s performance at Wacken Open Air in Germany after winning the 2019 Wacken Metal Battle Canada with The Slyde.

With more material already being planned beyond the debut release, Candor Zealot is positioning itself as one of Ontario’s most promising new progressive metal voices.

Brockville, ON progressive death metal outfit ALTERSOUL proudly announces the release of its debut EP, “Origins,” a deeply personal collection that bridges the past and future of the band while honoring the legacy of a fallen friend. Alongside the announcement, the band is unveiling the music video for the EP’s lead single, “Abandoned”, a reimagined version of the oldest composition in their catalog.

Born from the ashes of longtime Ontario metal act Ominous Eclipse, Altersoul represents both a continuation and a rebirth. Following over a decade of writing, recording, and performing together, founding members James Close (Guitar/Vocals) and Graham Murphy (Guitar/Vocals) made the difficult decision to retire the Ominous Eclipse name and begin a new chapter. The transition took on an even deeper meaning after the tragic passing of bassist and founding member Ryan Clements in August 2024.

The result is “Origins,” an EP that serves as both a tribute and a mission statement.

“When Ryan passed away, these songs became even more sentimental. After years of history, they closed out the band’s final set as Ominous Eclipse. As we transition into Altersoul, we wanted to revisit these tracks and finally give them the studio treatment they deserved. This EP is our reminder of where we came from,” explains James Close.

Featuring newly recorded versions of three foundational compositions originally featured on Ominous Eclipse’s debut album, “Origins” revisits the first songs written by Graham Murphy, James Close, and Ryan Clements. While the original recordings captured the band’s youthful ambition, the new versions realize the full creative vision that was impossible to achieve over a decade ago.

Recorded, produced, mixed, and mastered entirely by the band, “Origins” showcases Altersoul‘s commitment to complete creative independence. Real orchestral instrumentation, enhanced arrangements, and dynamic production transform these early compositions into expansive modern progressive death metal works.

Leading the release is “Abandoned,” a track that traces its roots back to an acoustic guitar composition Murphy wrote around 2009-2010.

“‘Abandoned’ is a symbolic debut for us because it’s both the oldest song in our catalog and a re-recording from our past,” says Murphy. “I wrote the original guitar part after becoming heavily inspired by Immortal’s “All Shall Fall”. When we revisited the song for Altersoul, we kept the heart of the composition intact while expanding it with orchestral arrangements and modern production.”

The song’s lyrics tell the story of a man abandoned in a frozen wasteland, facing his final moments as he succumbs to the cold. Musically, the track mirrors that journey, balancing harsh aggression with cinematic orchestral passages.

“The orchestral elements alternate between peaceful symphonic moments and traditional metal sections to symbolize the body’s fight against the cold. The finale represents the character’s final breath and eventual acceptance of his fate,” adds Close.

The EP also features newly realized versions of “End of Days” and “Beyond the Apocalypse,” songs that hold special significance within the band’s history. Together, the trio of tracks serves as a reflection of the friendships, memories, and musical foundations that shaped both Ominous Eclipse and Altersoul.

A special guest appearance from Andrew Poskus, Ominous Eclipse’s original drummer, adds another layer of nostalgia and closure to the project. Ironically, despite being the band’s original drummer, Origins marks the first official release to feature his recorded performances.

Musically, Altersoul continues to blur genre lines by fusing death metal, technical death metal, thrash, black metal, progressive metal, folk influences, orchestral arrangements, and atmospheric passages into a sound that is entirely their own.

More importantly, “Origins” marks the beginning of an ambitious new era.

“We’ve got multiple albums’ worth of material that has never been heard. As much as we’ve written hours of new music, we felt it was important to start by revisiting the songs that made us. These are the building blocks everything else grew from,” says Close.

For Altersoul, “Origins” is more than a debut release. It is a tribute to a friend, a celebration of a shared history, and the first step toward a promising future.

Colombian melodic death metal band ESHTADUR has released a live video for “Omen Of Millennia”, offering another glimpse into their forthcoming album, “In Darkness All Shadows Gone“, due October 2nd, 2026.

“Omen Of Millennia” brings together the melodic, symphonic and modern dimensions of ESHTADUR’s sound. The song explores cycles of existence, reincarnation, and spiritual inheritance, reflecting on how unresolved wounds, debts, and lessons may continue across lifetimes, while what has already been learned becomes something carried forward.

Jorg comments:

“This track is the omen for what’s coming next with ESHTADUR. It also represents a collaboration between Camilo and me: we created the song by approaching a more modern side of the band’s sound – something easy to listen to, easy to catch, and easy to remember.”

At its core, the omen represents both a warning and a promise: the announcement of an approaching transformation. This idea connects the song to the broader concept behind “In Darkness All Shadows Gone“, where the figure of The Crow acts as a guide through existence, death, the void and the unknown.

The collaboration between Jorg August and guitarist Camilo Barbosa gives “Omen Of Millennia” a distinctive place within the album, with Barbosa also contributing the track’s guitar solo. Its more immediate approach offers another perspective on ESHTADUR’s sound while remaining connected to the darker and symphonic character of the upcoming record.

The accompanying live video brings the track into ESHTADUR’s performance environment, reflecting the band’s direct approach to the stage and its focus on musicianship, the songs themselves, and the connection with the audience.

“Omen Of Millennia” is taken from ESHTADUR’s forthcoming twelve-track album, “In Darkness All Shadows Gone“. Four years in the making, the record expands the band’s melodic death metal foundations through extensive symphonic arrangements, layered vocals, and Tuvan voices, building its musical and conceptual identity around mysticism, transformation, and inner transmutation.

The album features the Caldas Symphonic Orchestra in Colombia, adding an orchestral dimension to its darker and more cinematic material. Produced by Jorg August, the record also features drums recorded in Poland by Michal Lysejko (Dieth) and was mixed and mastered by Tomasz Zed Zalewski.

Throughout “In Darkness All Shadows Gone“, The Crow serves as a recurring shamanic figure moving between existence, death, the void, and the unknown. Rather than presenting darkness simply as an oppressive force, the album approaches it as part of a broader journey toward transformation and self-discovery.

Northern Irish Pagan Metal pioneers WAYLANDER will release their new album, “Mac Tíre – Son of the Land“, on November 6th, 2026 via Rockshots Records. More than three decades after their formation in Northern Ireland, WAYLANDER return with “Mac Tíre – Son of the Land“, a nine-track album rooted in the landscapes, mythology and cultural heritage of Ireland. The record continues the path the band has followed since the early 1990s, combining extreme metal with traditional Irish instrumentation and Pagan themes.

While “Mac Tíre – Son of the Land” is not a concept album in the same way as its predecessor, “Ériú’s Wheel“, its songs share a strong connection with the land and the stories embedded within it. The title itself reflects this relationship: Mac Tíre, literally “son of the land”, is the Irish term for the wolf, an animal closely connected with Ireland’s natural past.

Musically, the album represents a natural evolution of WAYLANDER’s established sound, retaining the balance between metal aggression and traditional Irish elements that has defined the band throughout its career.

The first single, “Macha”, is dedicated to the ancient Goddess whose connection to WAYLANDER is both mythological and deeply personal. “Macha” is associated with the area the band calls home: both Ard Chieftain O’Hagan’s hometown and the county from which WAYLANDER originates bear her name.

“Macha is the Goddess of the area where we live. My hometown and the county where we’re from are both named after Macha. The time felt right to celebrate her in song, and we believe we have written a song worthy of her,” says Ard Chieftain O’Hagan

For WAYLANDER, mythology is not simply material drawn from a distant past but something that remains present in the landscapes, place names, and traditions surrounding them. “Macha” reflects that relationship while providing the first introduction to the themes running through “Mac Tíre – Son of the Land“.

Fans who pre-order the album digitally can immediately hear “One Foot In Hell,” the first chapter of the eleven-song descent that makes up Stranded In Hell.

Musically, “One Foot In Hell” draws heavily from the aggressive character of late-’80s and early-’90s thrash and death metal. The song began with the memory of the type of fast, old-school, Pestilence-influenced drumming that QUEMASANTOS founder Ignacio Orellana had always been drawn to, but it developed into something broader as the composition took shape.

The track combines fast thrash-driven sections with a contrasting middle passage that became the foundation for its guitar solo section, carrying influences that Orellana associates with bands including Anthrax, Metallica, and elements of his own musical history.

Joining QUEMASANTOS on “One Foot In Hell” is Colombian guitarist Juancho Gómez of Masacre, whose performance brings another direct connection to the South American death metal tradition that has influenced Orellana throughout his career.

Orellana comments:

“One Foot In Hell was actually one of the last songs that came together for the album, but once it was finished, I knew it was the right place to begin. It has that old-school aggression I grew up loving, but it also contains several different pieces of my own musical history. For me, it became the perfect first step into Stranded In Hell.”

Vocalist and lyricist Nelson “Sr. Díaz” describes the track:

“One Foot In Hell is one of the most intense songs I’ve recorded in recent years. Many different styles coexist harmoniously within it, along with a high level of vocal demand. I believe the infernal horror it presents is captured faithfully through a demonically powerful yet technical performance that will take us into a paroxysm of metal.”

“Stranded In Hell” marks the second QUEMASANTOS album featuring Sr. Díaz on vocals and lyrics, and the first album by the project performed entirely in English.

The record was constructed differently from a traditional band recording process. Orellana composed the majority of the material beginning with the bass, followed by drums and guitars, allowing the bass to function as an independent compositional voice rather than simply following the guitar arrangements.

“One Foot In Hell” was the notable exception: its composition began with the guitars.

The finished album features 11 songs and 11 guest guitarists, with musicians from across the international metal scene contributing to individual tracks.

Bay Area progressive modern‑metal band Baby On A Rampage announces the upcoming release of its new EP “Forgive My Figure,” due out on November 12, 2026. Co‑produced with Scott Proctor (Five Finger Death Punch touring member; Machine Head/Testament tech; Amongst Thieves; State Line Empire), the EP marks the band’s most expansive and mature sound to date. It follows the BOAR’s 2025 debut album “Fall With Disgrace” produced by Michael Rosen (Testament, AFI, Less Than Jake).

The lead single “Reclaim”, accompanied by the band’s first official music video, will debut ahead of the band’s performance at the End of the Summer Blowout Fest on September 6 at Field of Dreams Lincoln Theater Garden in Oakland, CA.

“Reclaim” stands as one of Baby On A Rampage’s most powerful compositions. Written entirely by Ash Lee (Guitars, Vocals), the track confronts political violence, colonization, and environmental devastation.

“When I wrote the song, I was definitely bothered by the genocide in Palestine, and it’s very much a song about standing up and taking back, or kind of a call for some sort of revolution, like metaphorically, to take back a government position. Talking about the colonization history of the United States government, and how they’re constantly funding other governments before putting their own people at the forefront of their concerns. I mean, it’s about a lot of different kinds of government overreach, and the later sections are about the genocide of native people and taking their land, and it’s definitely an environmental song.”

Musically, “Reclaim” represents a clear step forward for the band, built as a multi‑section journey rather than a straightforward heavy track. Its verses hit with a dark, commanding intensity, while the clean passage opens into a big, emotional, hopeful swell. The contrast gives the song an almost spiritual lift and an anthemic feel, and it’s become a standout live moment as audiences who have heard it have connected with it immediately.

The band’s second offering since recording their original material, “Forgive My Figure,” represents a major leap in their evolution. The band’s writing has matured significantly, resulting in a cohesive sonic identity.

“This is our most musically and melodically complex release so far… a big wall of sound… a lot of ear candy. I think those who have been following us will hear how much we have matured since our first album and are still evolving, particularly since we’re still all teenagers,” adds Lee.

Co‑producer and engineer Scott Proctor helped shape the EP’s broader, more modern metal direction, using his skill in vocal harmonies and layered arrangements to sharpen its impact. His work brought greater focus and emotional definition to the record, while mastering engineer Matt Boudreau added the final depth and clarity.

“Scott has an incredible ear for harmonies and layering, and he pushed the songs to hit harder by stripping away anything unnecessary. His guidance on tracks like ‘Reclaim’ and ‘Failure of One’s Name’ made the arrangements clearer, stronger, and far more impactful,” adds Lee.

The EP brings together four thematically heavy tracks, each tackling personal or political conflict. “Immaculate Teeth” confronts the performative nature of American politics and the harm it masks. “My Tragedy” dives into cycles of self‑destruction and the struggle to break free. “Failure of One’s Name” explores identity, grief, and healing, rooted in drummer Lyra Renninger’s experience as a trans woman and Ash Lee’s reflections on loss. “Reclaim” serves as the EP’s centerpiece, merging political urgency with emotional release to create one of the band’s most resonant anthems.

As a teenage modern‑metal band from the East Bay, Baby On A Rampage is known for its dense, melodic, emotionally charged sound. Formed at Bandworks, the group has grown from child prodigies into one of the Bay Area’s most promising young heavy acts. Built around heavy guitars, hard-hitting rhythmic shifts, and crushing breakdowns, “Edge of Control” combines electronic textures and cinematic layers with the melodic, emotionally charged identity that has shaped Secret Rule’s sound. Eternal Drak is an extreme metal band based in Quebec City, Canada, originally founded in Latin America in the late ’90s. Rooted in a fierce blend of thrash and black metal, the band has continually expanded its sound with elements of death metal, groove, and melodic experimentation. Lyrically, Eternal Drak explores human and cosmic darkness, a theme present across all seven of its official releases. The band is currently signed to the Canadian label FirstWave.

Formed in 1997 by brothers Drakar and Warhammer, later joined by guitarist Reijav, Eternal Drak quickly gained recognition, winning a City TV award for Best Metal Video in the early 2000s. After releasing early EPs and their first full-length, the band went on hiatus in 2007.

Canada’s unstoppable metal force Triskelyon unleashes “Metalmorphosis,” a digital‑only barrage that reforges iconic rock and pop classics into a high‑octane blast of metallic fury. The album is now available on all major digital platforms as of August 21, 2026, via Moribund Records.

Founded in 2021 by guitarist and mastermind Geoff Waye (Category VI), Triskelyon has carved a fierce path through the underground with acclaimed singles and albums including “Downfall,” “Artificial Insanity,” “Shattered Elysium,” and “Maelstrom of Chaos.” With “Metalmorphosis,” the band pushes its creative boundaries further than ever, delivering a full‑length collection of crushing cover versions forged from the fires of thrash, speed, power, and traditional heavy metal.

Aptly titled, “Metalmorphosis” represents the complete metalization of timeless classics, each track reborn heavier, faster, darker, and more explosive. From the arena‑sized lift of Bryan Adams’ “Summer of ’69” to the brooding tension of Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” Triskelyon injects razor‑sharp riffing, thunderous rhythms, soaring vocals, and blistering solos into every song.
