OMINOUS ECLIPSE To Unleash New Album “Sinister” September 2018

A very ambitious band passionate about writing and playing extreme music, Ottawa ON’s OMINOUS ECLIPSE draws their inspiration from a wide variety of genres to create a unique hybrid sound with death metal being the main aspect combined with elements of thrash, groove, black, melodic, etc. Active since 2014, OMINOUS ECLIPSE has been making waves on the local scene opening for names such as Revocation, The Agonist, Kalmah, Archspire, Incantation, Vesperia, Beyond Creation, Rivers of Nihil to name a few. In the same year of their conception, they unleashed a four song EP “Beyond The Apocalypse” with a full length “End Of Days” following not long after in 2015. Now in 2018, they return with their sophomore album “Sinister” due out September 14th.

The band comments:

“There’s no concept or theme on this album so all the songs have different meaning. The title track itself divulges into the inevitable end to humanity and potentially the world with it. It discusses the issues around the globe and also addresses the ignorance and selfishness of those indirectly affected by the chaos. It has a strong “United We Stand, Divided We Fall” theme in regards to how people can turn their backs on those in need in order to save their own skin, which ironically will lead to our end as it causes people to turn on each other. Musically for this album, you will notice we have evolved from the first release and have moved away from thrashy overtones to become more diverse including more heavily stated melodic and technical with a solid groove and death foundation.”

OMINOUS ECLPISE‘s first three singles, the album’s title track “Sinister”, “Spiral Into Insanity” and “The Horde” were assaulted upon metal fans earlier this year and can be heard at the following links:

“Their new song “Spiral Into Insanity” has a strong death metal foundation, including very melodic leads, but there’s more than enough groovy thrash inspiration and even a hint of black metal there. ” – Decibel Magazine

“‘Sinister’ is a high-energy track launched by heartless riff jabs, ear-scouring string squeals, and neck-snapping drumwork. The vocals come for your throat, too, in an effusion of heartless roars and face-scraping shrieks, and the song is accented by flurries of spidery, darting fretwork and by a pair of flashy, fluid, but demented solos. It becomes a thrashing gallop, but without becoming any less venomous in its delivery.” – No Clean Singing

“As the evolution of Ominous Eclipse has progressed, the band have hybridized a seething core of death metal sound with elements of thrash, black metal, and melodic death metal. But if “The Horde” is a sign of what’s to come next, they’re reaching for new levels of monstrous and electrifying destructiveness.” – No Clean Singing

“Whilst we wait with anticipation to hear the rest of the record ”Sinister” is yet another outstanding track on what looks set to be a very exciting record from ‘Ominous Eclipse’.” – Spirit Level Magazine

“The crowd was stellar at Mavericks, where each of the four bands were well represented by their fan bases. Opening on the night were Ominous Eclipse, whose chunky, frantic thrash metal din was led by their howling frontman. Largely drawing from their 2015 album End of Days, the four-piece pounded through six songs, tackling tracks like “Pestilence,” Abandoned” and the album’s particularly solid title track. Helping to limber the crowd for the chaos to come, they called for a “wall of death” in the confines of the club and the fans delivered, clearing the centre of the floor before the opposing sides barrelled into one another, bodies flying everywhere.” – Exclaim! (Live Review opening for Kalmah April 2016)

Created by Andrew James of Edmonton, AB’s Eye of Horus and Shotgunner, his new project, one man folk metal band NORTH HAMMER is drawing inspiration from the mighty Quorthon; for Andrew is not so much a one-man band as a one-warrior metal machine. Andrew wrote and recorded the guitar, bass, vocals, and orchestration along with drums done by Doug Helcaraxë Nunez for NORTH HAMMER’s debut album “Stormcaller” recently unleashed on March 16th, 2018.

Inspired by Wintersun, Ensiferum, Amon Amarth, Aether Realm, Blind Guardian, “Stormcaller” is a 21st century continuation of the work of Norse bards with its melodic death metal folk riffs.

“Stormcaller has been quite an adventure in itself to record, many aspects of music I had never even attempted before. From the creation of an over-arching narrative to satisfy lyric content, to writing guitar solos and orchestration, I finally have been able to come out with something that I am so excited to share with you! The experience I’m trying to give the listeners is that of a fellow fan. I want people to be euphoric for other bands that mean something to them like Ensiferum, Wintersun and Amon Amarth. To connect personally with my music and realize that I love and worship these bands.” explains Andrew James.

Teaming up with MetalUnderground.com, NORTH HAMMER is premiering their new video for “Tip of The Spear”http://www.metalunderground.com/news/details.cfm?newsid=139729

Andrew James adds:

“Tip of the Spear is a fight song. The hero heads to a mountain peak rumoured to house an ancient celestial that can provide him with godlike powers that can help him defeat the bestial horde. However, a camp of these foul beasts lay in his path. The hero and his brother’s in arms lead their cavalry to a surprise attack in order to eradicate the menace.”

Album order for NORTH HAMMER’s “Stormcaller” available via Bandcamp here.

(Bio written by Steve Earles)

“Canadian outfit North Hammer bring Norse folk influences to melodic death metal on their debut album, Stormcaller. The creation of one Andrew James, Stormcaller takes influence from the likes of Amon Amarth: aggressive and powerful, yet jubilant.”

“The hard-charging melodic death metal of this song is itself heroic in its atmosphere, its darting, folk-influenced riffs, galloping rhythms, fiery soloing, and soaring keyboard melodies summoning mythic images of striving and triumph. While its musical antecedents are indeed clearly identifiable, it’s nonetheless a pulse-pounding, heart-swelling track, and one that proves to be very catchy as well.” – No Clean Singing

“Andrew James’ one-man project from Edmonton, North Hammer enters the heavy metal fray with the crushing debut “Stormcaller.” Especially for a first release, this album is intense, heavy and filled with high quality Ensiferum worship riffage. But North Hammer is not just a clone or a tribute, the sound of the band is clearly defined within the first few tracks and continues to develop and surprise throughout the album.” – CROM Metal

““Wanderer” begins with a Bathory-esque chorus in front of tender acoustics to further exploding into melodeath territories. Riffing comes and go in form of a melody that interwines the next segments of the track, which concludes with a great solo and a nice double bass storm. The composition is dynamic and moving enough, thanks to the mix of the Quorthon worship and the swinging melodic death metal influences.” – Toilet Ov Hell

“Metalheads who are down with the likes of Wintersun, Ensiferum, Amon Amarth, Aether Realm, and/or Blind Guardian should find something to like here.” – PureGrainAudio

“Before you can gather your senses the battle finishes and leaves you bloody, but grinning from ear to ear. NORTH HAMMER have released a blend of catchy folk, death and black metal which will appeal to fans of various extreme metal. The song writing and musicianship on ‘Stormcaller’ is unquestionable and this is a very promising start for NORTH HAMMER and one I hope they can build on for future releases?” – All About The Rock

“what really stands out in Stormcaller are the riffs. Andrew James pulls of some stellar work here, catchy & exciting with each song standing strongly on its own. The blend of folk melody & heavier death-metal sounds great.” – Games Brains & A Head Banging Life

“North Hammer hit all the right notes with ‘Stormcaller’, a strong and swift record full of great tracks and it leaves you invigorating and ready for anything. A record for axe swinging, mead swilling and blood spilling, ‘Stormcaller’ is one of the most fun and fist pumping records you’ll hear this year.” – The Killchain

“For a debut, this is an outstanding album that is full of ferocity. It is fast and loud. You can imagine the headbanging that would go on at one of their shows.” – Baby Dolls And Razor Blades

“Stormcaller is a great Viking metal record made all the more impressive considering it was largely written and performed by just one man. It may not push the boat out, but fans of Amon Amarth will enjoy it a lot.” – Toby Saunders’ Rad Reviews

Andrew explains the significance of his band’s name.

“The ‘north’ part was a representation of the common theme winter that comes up in metal music, including folk metal. It is also a reference to my native Canada. ‘Hammer’ is a reference to Mjolnir, Thor’s Hammer!”

Teaming up with Antichrist Mag, NORTH HAMMER is premiering the third single “Magic Mead”, which can be heard at the following link: http://antichristmagazine.com/song-premiere-north-hammer-magic-mead/

Andrew James comments:

“‘Magic Mead takes us to the lodgings of the hero as he celebrates a glorious victory with his fellow brothers in arms over a distant tyrant king. As the militia feast and drink to their new found glory, a strange and fantastical looking woman catches his attention away from the camp. The magic mead part of it is contributed to his magical encounter with this woman as he follows her further into the night. Hallucinations start to happen and he eventually loses control of himself and passes out. This is the reason I chose to put the more blasty and dark ending to the song.”

Andrew James comments:

“‘Wanderer’ is a song where he (a soldier in the ranks of a Viking faction as part of the story concept) takes to the high seas to seek his destiny. Although he had visions of clear depictions of places, he doesn’t really comprehend what his purpose is at this point. And thus, he lies awake endlessly trying to piece the puzzle together. Without a real steadfast idea of where he is going, he navigates by the star’s using his memories from the vision.”

Andrew wrote and recorded the guitar, bass, vocals, and orchestration along with drums done by Doug Helcaraxë Nunez for NORTH HAMMER’s forthcoming debut album “Stormcaller” set for release on March 16th, 2018.

Andrew explains the significance of his band’s name.

“The ‘north’ part was a representation of the common theme winter that comes up in metal music, including folk metal. It is also a reference to my native Canada. ‘Hammer’ is a reference to Mjolnir, Thor’s Hammer!”

Inspired by Wintersun, Ensiferum, Amon Amarth, Aether Realm, Blind Guardian, “Stormcaller” is a 21st century continuation of the work of Norse bards with its melodic death metal folk riffs.

“The experience I’m trying to give the listeners is that of a fellow fan. I want people to be euphoric for other bands that mean something to them like Ensiferum, Wintersun and Amon Amarth. To connect personally with my music and realize that I love and worship these bands.” explains Andrew James.

Teaming up with NoCleanSinging.com, NORTH HAMMER is premiering their debut track “Avatar”, which can be heard at the following link: http://www.nocleansinging.com/2018/02/09/an-ncs-premiere-north-hammer-avatar/

Andrew James comments:

“Avatar is a manifestation of a deity or released soul in bodily form on Earth; an incarnate divine teacher. This is the definition that I thought fit well for this song. This song is about battling the elements of scaling a giant mountain during blizzards and furious winds. The teacher and deity aspect of the hero shines through as he preserves and inspires other beyond their capacity.”

While NORTH HAMMER is a studio project at the moment, Andrew James plans to put together a band of top-notch like-minded musicians for touring in Western Canada and beyond.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 11, 2018

For fans of Epica, In Flames, Arch Enemy, Amon Amarth, Children Of Bodom, Iced Earth

KARKAOS Unleash New Video “Tyrants”

Album Out Now “Children of The Void”

One of Montreal’s most reputable and celebrated melodic extreme metal acts KARKAOS is proud to unleash their new music video “Tyrants” off their latest offering “Children of The Void” featuring new vocalist Viky Boyer, drummer Justine Ethier (Blackguard) and lead guitarist Samael Pelletier along with collaborations with guest artists Lindsay Schoolcraft (Cradle of Filth) and Morgan Lander (Kittie).

The bands comments:

“Karkaos is extremely proud to release its new video for the song ‘’Tyrants’’. This new video crafted by JP Charlebois, known for his work with Ion Dissonance and Slaves On Dope, is the perfect visual vessel to bring this song to your screen by being as brutal, relentless and intricate as the song itself.

We felt that Tyrants was the perfect song to give a second and different look to Children Of The Void. Its powerful meaning can easily be applied to our world and the weird times we all seem to be going through. We need to remember that we will always be stronger united than divided and this song is a testament to people taking the lead when our leaders couldn’t. Make sure to watch it and share it with your friends and pick up a copy of the album or some merch if you enjoyed it.”

Watch “Tyrants” at the following link:

“Children of The Void” was recorded, mastered and mixed with Christian Donaldson and Marc-o Frechette at The Grid (The Agonist, Cryptopsy, Neuraxis, Beyond Creation) and Silverwings Studios for keyboards (Blackguard, Ex-Deo , Distoriam) in Montreal, QC. The artwork was made by the immensely talented Marcela Bolívar while the layout was done by Fred Riverin from I Legion.

“It hammers along from the opening whistle, with clean female vocals and growls to boot….a thundering release, and with melody always bubbling under the surface will appeal to a wide range of metal fans, more so those at the heavier end of the spectrum.” – Raven Heart Music

“Le groupe a tout en main maintenant pour conquérir le monde, car avecChildren of the Void ils jouent dans la cour des grands. Québec-Métal vous recommande fortement cet album dès sa sortie.”  – Quebec Metal

“As we’re all the children of the void, let’s raise our horns and bang our heads to the superb new album by one of the most reputable and celebrated metal acts hailing from the beautiful province of Quebec.” – The Headbanging Moose

“The 12 tracks of Children of the Void take you on a symphonic journey, a journey filled with pace & intense metal riffs blended with soaring melodies. The mix of female vocals against the death metal growls, the super-fast drum beats, the screaming guitar solos & action packed orchestral elements really push Karkaos to another level. Think the guitar style of Children of Bodom with the brutality of Arch Enemy & the melodic nature of Epica but with their own unique sound.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“the way that Karkaos infuses all of their elements that make it a standout record. This is a band that can strike hard and fast if they want to, and on a number of occasions bring out some rather pleasing, death metal-induced heaviness.” – Dead Rhetoric

“Karkaos’ second full-length feels like a gift that keeps giving. There’s always something to get excited about – be it a snarling riff, beaming melody, or a soaring vocal. Symphonic melodic death metal that can move from visceral and aggressive to epic and catchy on the drop of a hat. It contains all the quintessential elements and presents them in a way that still feels fresh and exciting. You won’t find a better example of the style this year.” – Dead Rhetoric #5 on Best of 2017 List

“This is massively majestic and leaves a lasting impression and asserts that Karkaos are a band to watch out for.” – Dark Art Conspiracy

“Definitely appealing to the symphonic and melodic crowds and hitting extreme metal and metal audiences in equal measure. Karkaos know exactly what they want to be and exactly where they’re going and are likely to steadily receive more attention for their efforts.” – Noizze UK

“Ok, here is my first impression : Wow! Karkaos, from Montréal returns with this new album and it’s great… The first connection my brain did was Amon Amarth, Karkaos has that powerful sound that makes you ready to go for a journey against stronger forces. All the elements that are added to the music, bring up the word epic in my head. The music is fast and hits hard in all of the songs. I loved this album and will listen to it again.” – Re Zine

“a solid album with plenty of horns-to-the-sky crescendos” – Metal Trenches

“the band delivers a very well-crafted alternative for Arch Enemy, at least as theatrical music and a slightly darker approach. Fans of the genre will surely love this.” – Lords of Metal

“An album that makes an impact, a great impression. They have matured so much since 2013 and they did an awesome job on this album. They worked two years to make it and it showed. It’s one of the best releases of the year.” – Metal Temple

0 NEWS: NoCleanSinging Premiere TIDES OF KHARON’s Title Track “Coins Upon Our Eyes” From Upcoming Greek Mythology Themed Debut EP Out July 21st

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – July 12, 2017

For fans of Kataklysm, Amon Amarth, At The Gates

NoCleanSinging Premiere TIDES OF KHARON’s Title Track “Coins Upon Our Eyes”
From Upcoming Greek Mythology Themed Debut EP Out July 21st

Few things go together better than melodic death metal and ancient mythology. The debut EP from Edmonton, Alberta’s TIDES OF KHARON, is the latest addition to this perfect combo. Entitled “Coins Upon Our Eyes”, the debut goes hand in hand with the band name, taken from the lore of the boatman on the river Styx who ferries the dead to the underworld, taking the coins left on the eyes of a corpse as his payment. TIDES OF KHARON fully embrace the Greek mythology themes in their songs and their first EP is a culmination of several different tales taking from the ancient pantheon.

Originally started by brothers Cam, Ryan and Justin Rehman in 2014 with a desire to play shows in front of people, TIDES OF KHARON quickly became a fan favorite in the Edmonton music community. The solidification of Gord Alexander on drums and Garrett Nelson on vocals finally cemented the sound the band sought and the production of the EP could begin. Citing inspiration from titans in the genre including Amon Amarth, At the Gates and early In Flames, the band is definitely in the running alongside their Swedish counterparts.

Finally, their debut EP is ready to be unleashed upon the public on July 21st and teaming up with NoCleanSinging.com, the quintet is premiering the title track.

The band comments:

“The EP is the culmination of several years of writing and performing material in an attempt to solidify what we would define as our sound. Lyrically the title track ‘Coins Upon Our Eyes’ is a discussion on existentialism within the setting of Greek mythology, and the indifference of gods that you know are real. The rest of the tracks follow suit with lyrical themes involving, the rape of Medusa, Orpheus’ quest to bring back his dead wife, and an unending battle involving the sons of the god of war, Ares. The EP is just the beginning with several songs already complete and numerous in the works a full length album won’t be far off.”

Doors are at 8pm and advance tickets are $10 available through the bands.
