METRO SOCIETY Bring The Grim And Gritty 1800s London Alive With Progressive Lyric Video For “Underground”

New Concept Album Out Now! “The London Conspiracy Chapter I 1898”

Metro Society is a progressive rock/metal project group from the mind of guitarist/songwriter Chris Mangold. Released this past March, their second album “The London Conspiracy Chapter I 1898” marks the band’s return after a hiatus along with a renewed lineup, Metro Society promises to captivate audiences with their atmospheric and eerie musical journey into 1800s London. Their third single, complete with a video is “Underground”, which the band details:

“This song takes on perhaps the most unique sounds recorded for the album. The tone of the instruments and lyrics are very much reflective of the underground tunnel-like setting of the storyline. Lots of layered dark keyboard work from Mangold and the chime/crunch tones from bassist Ian Ringler’s 12-string bass work.”

The narrative follows an up-and-coming detective entangled in a murder mystery involving the suspicious death of his former mentor, the retired Metropolitan Police Commissioner. As the detective delves deeper, he uncovers a twisted tale of betrayal, secret societies, and murder, all seemingly linked back to the Ripper. Will the detective unravel the long-hidden secrets of London’s sordid past, or will he become a victim of his own unrelenting obsession?

For the time being, Metro Society is primarily focused on being a studio project band and they are already in the writing stages of the next album which is set to be a direct follow-up to “The London Conspiracy Chapter I 1898”. They have the full storyline figured out for “London Chapter II” and roughly 70% of the music is already written. They hint that things will be going in a darker and heavier direction. Metro Society’s atmospheric concept music is recommended for fans of OSI, Pain of Salvation, and Dream Theater.

Watch and listen to the lyric video for “Underground” via its premiere on AllAboutTheRock HERE.

Their new album “The London Conspiracy Chapter I 1898” was released on March 1, 2024, via the band’s own label Metro Society Records, and is available at https://metrosociety.bandcamp.com.

“”Pieces of the Past: It’s the epic track on the record and ranges from up-tempo heavy hitting to progressively synced parts and superb lead vocals and vocal harmonies.” – Sonic Perspectives

“an ambitious album and Metro Society have some hits (the vocal lines on “Underground” for one)…The London Conspiracy Chapter I 1898 is an enjoyable album,” – The Metal Crypt

““The London Conspiracy Chapter I 1898” is a captivating album that is convincing both musically and conceptually. Metro Society proves to be a talented band that knows how to bring a story to life through their music. Fans of progressive rock and metal should definitely keep this album in mind and embark on a thrilling journey to Victorian London.” – BetreutesProggen.de

“a captivating second album that explores the darker side of London’s history.” – Maximum Volume Music

“After the intro ‘London 1898’, which incorporates the distinctive ringing of Big Ben, each number lasts between five and ten minutes, giving enough time to unfold and give listeners the opportunity to adjust to the atmosphere. But the band lets it rip on the metallic ‘Lost Souls’, and it’s not just on this track that the rhythm section’s class proves itself. The most melodically interesting piece is ‘Pieces Of The Past’, which switches between metallic, poppy and dark passages with considerable ease and also features a clean guitar solo. The pretty instrumental ‘Society’ could be a bit nostalgic for the prog fan, as it reminds a little of the early phase of DREAM THEATER, when the men around John Petrucci were able to do something like that quite effortlessly.” – PowerMetal.de

Releasing their debut album “Phantasmagoria” at the end of this past October, Red Deer, AB, Canada’s Black Daggers are sharing their latest music video for the track “Wasted”. A song written from the point of view of speaking to your inner demons, this track freely switches from one to the other.

“It’s not meant to be clear who is the one speaking at any given point, but it’s a conversation in the mirror. We think this is a relatable concept for people who struggle with their own inner struggles.” adds the band.

The music video for “Wasted” can be seen and heard via its premiere on AllAboutTheRock HERE.

A concept record about a Faustian Bargain gone awry, “Phantasmagoria” sees its protagonist character making a deal with the Devil, which quickly goes wrong when they see their life unraveling. The album is as much about struggling with vices as it is dealing with depression and addiction. The band wanted to really dig into the idea of drug-induced psychosis and explore where that might lead to paranoia and further self-destruction. They think in some ways the character will be relatable to people who’ve dealt with battling their inner demons with mental health issues or lived with addictions.

“We want fans to experience this record by putting on their headphones, closing their eyes and just imagining themselves drifting into this world where nothing is off limits and excess is the norm. The character struggles to cope with their newfound euphoria and it leads them down a dark path of self-destruction. If anything, after listening to this record people get a slightly deeper understanding of the struggles some people face.” says the band.

Self-producing this first full-length, Black Daggers‘ explored different sound textures and ideas, but they also wanted to make sure the record was something they could reproduce live, which they are looking forward to doing in the coming months with plans to play across Alberta and beyond.

“Phantasmagoria” is available on all digital platforms at https://linktr.ee/blackdaggersmusic

About: Black Daggers are set to take the hard rock and metal scenes by storm with their electrifying, pulse-pounding sound. Composed of four talented musicians, each bringing their own flair and expertise to the table. With dual guitars that weave intricate, powerful riffs and solos, a thundering bass that lays down the groove, and a drummer who effortlessly keeps the pulse of the band’s heart pounding, the musical talent on display is undeniable. “The ideas, the story, the connection to the characters are there as if one is reading a book or watching a movie. Phantasmagoria is cohesive in its songs, music, and mood and that cohesiveness of Phantasmagoria is what makes the debut album from Black Daggers brilliant. MUST LISTEN TRACKS: “Best I’ve Got”, “Im Here”, “Wasted”, “City Limits”, “Carpe Diem”” – Amplify The Noise

“Solid. God knows we need more music like this, especially in Canada. If you’re into anything from Alice in Chains and Soundgarden to Mastodon and Big Wreck, this is for you.” – Alan Cross – Undiscovered Gem of the Week – Corus Media

“‘Surfin’ a Vibe’ really conjures a dark, horror-laced image. The raw vocals perfectly capture the feeling of impactful shock rock. I like the bold confidence and furious brutality. It’s well-structured but raucous.” — What CRB thought of ‘Surfin’ a Vibe’

“I really like what they did with the solo coming in a bar early. Really interesting stuff. Song of the night!” – @the_ghosthouse (Twitch)

Vancouver, Canada’s Opus Arise is an orchestral metal ensemble that brings together classical strings and metal rhythms to create luscious soundscapes to dissonant chaos. Their second album “The Network” teleports listeners into a cyberpunk world filled with neon lights, and punctuated with progressive riffs. Compared to their last album “Revelation”, released in 2016, their compositions have become slightly less metal, but they have upped the ante in the string section going from a trio to a quintet. The third single “Change” is a pivotal point in the album, where it is at its heaviest. The band comments on it and the album as a whole:

“The album builds itself up with steady grooves that lead into some of the heaviest moments on the album. We then break into a thoughtful, atmospheric middle section with a triumphant ending that leads to the climax of the album. After many years that seemed like forever, we’re extremely excited to release our follow-up “The Network”. Thanks to the experience and wisdom of Maor Appelbaum, we’re very stoked that we brought the album to what it needed to be after much trial and error. We hope everyone will enjoy this journey through this Cyberpunk-inspired world!”

The eight-track album features a wide arrangement of influences performed by nine members. It was primarily composed by Matthew Logan and Matthew Hannah but former members have also left a bit of material to be used for future albums. They tried many different guitars and tones for this record, and through much trial and error, they finally settled on the John Petrucci Majesty 7 with his Neural DSP, which they will use going forward. They cite that it really allows the space for the strings to come out while still being heavy and crunchy.

Influenced by prog, neo-classical, and even extreme genres like black and death, Opus Arise is recommended for fans of Liquid Tension Experiment, Powerglove, and Scale The Summit.

The video for “Change” can be watched via its premiere on AllAboutTheRock HERE.

Hunting Giants Release Video For Aggressive, Relentless “Mantle” Off “Mythos”

New Album “Mythos” Out Now!

Canada’s Hunting Giants have long been working on their recent album “Mythos”, which was released in September. A full-fledged journey for the listener into wild worlds punctuated with devious riffs, distinctive vocals, and captivating lyrics, they continue to offer an escape with the lyric video for “Mantle”. A monster of a track, all instruments and vocals come in on the same first beat. An allusion to a toxic relationship, we follow the story of a man who makes a pact with an unknown force who claims to be subservient to him. The band continues to explain:

“While the vocals and instruments roar with aggressive verses and a theatrically inspired chorus, the deity demands to be re-payed for the boons she has bestowed upon her subject. As the track breaks down into the bridge, he dismembered himself to feed her. This is a mirror to those who sacrifice pieces of themselves for another who only seeks to use them. The song comes to a conclusion with the instruments playing the intro riff while it is accented by a feral vocal roar.”

Watch and listen to “Mantle” via its premiere on AllAboutTheRock HERE.

According to the band, “Mythos” is the crowning achievement of their musical work as a band and they are incredibly excited to share it. The album is the product of years of writing and recording while gigging and enduring as a band under quarantine. The members of Hunting Giants all came from, and are inspired by, progressive rock and metal bands where songs would often pass the ten-minute mark. However, they desired to keep their own music concise and to the point, intentionally lacking much of the excess material that so often padded run-times of songs in the progressive rock-metal genre. Simple and clean lines are given priority over complicated abstractions that only challenge the player in an athletic way, provided that it serves the music.

They continue to explain that listenability rules over impressing instrumentalists and the form that every section of the music takes is defined entirely by how it needs to be. Each song becomes a life of its own that slowly emerges from an ocean of subconscious possibility. They are recommended listening for fans of Audioslave, Muse, and Tool.

Hunting Giants was started in 2017 with Bradley Trivett assembling the first musical themes and combining the percussive expertise of Daniel Beavington with the explosive rhythmic prowess of Corey J. “A glorious adventure is about to begin, starting right here today! Heavy metallers Hunting Giants are debuting their brand new music video for “Rituals,” the first single from their upcoming album Mythos. The song indicates the zeal and the ambition that the band is bringing towards this new record, due for release on September 30th. The “Rituals” video matches the flat-out intensity of the song, one that discusses necromancy and the harshness of hatred and shame.” – V13

“It’s not often that a band is described as ‘a blend of modern hard rock, progressive rock/metal and grunge influences,’ but that is indeed a fitting description of Vancouver’s Hunting Giants” – Bravewords

“Let me say this first, HUNTING GIANTS from Vancouver are REALLY freaking good. These guys are relatively new but they are tighter and more accomplished man many veteran bands.” – Rock You Show

“This is an album (Mythos) that you’ll want to wander through thanks to their technical proficiency and the production value.” – Metal Roos

“a solid listen, and a fairly unique combination of a few different styles. It’s mostly heavy enough for Metal fans, and mostly melodic enough for fans like myself who appreciate a good hook.” – Metal Temple
