Fell Harvest, from Cheyenne, Wyoming, USA is streaming their new album “Pale Light In A Dying World”, which is a new take on traditional doom as it incorporates modern, progressive elements. The band started as a pretty traditional 90s style death-doom band if there’s such a thing, but considering the influence that each of the members brings forward, their sound has been about stepping away from the formula and letting themselves explore those while also presenting a consistent aesthetic experience to fans.

It is hard to sum up the album in its entirety, due to it being so complex, both musically and mentally, as bassist and vocalist Joseph Fell quotes:

“If I had to call it anything though I would say “A snapshot of the plague year’. So much of this record was shaped by the pandemic, from deciding to record when and how we did, to tracking parts with a 103-degree fever and the discovery that I couldn’t sing the same way anymore because COVID damaged my lungs too badly. While it’s ultimately about more than just this one, unique moment in the modern zeitgeist, it’s also impossible to separate from the things happening around us when we created it.”

Initially, Fell Harvest was planning on spending 2020 touring to support their just released EP, but it obviously didn’t work out. Instead, Joseph Fell (bass/vocals) found himself sitting at home with nothing to do and began sifting through not only recent ideas, but some nearly forgotten bits and pieces that had never found a home before now. Eventually, he started working on some new arrangements to older songs and the band decided to try and record and release something in the summer. That didn’t work out either and it took almost a year to have the resulting record ready to release, but they think the results will prove worth it.

Recommended for fans of both doom metal and death metal, Fell Harvest is easily enjoyed by those with My Dying Bride, Agalloch, and Type O Negative in their rotation.

“Pale Light In A Dying World” can be heard via its full stream premiere on Doomed & Stoned HERE.

“Pale Light In A Dying World” is out on July 16, 2021.

About:
Fell Harvest, doom metal from Cheyenne, Wyoming, USA, strives to weave a tapestry of melody, despair, and longing to chronicle the last lights of a dying world.

Fell Harvest grew out of a former project of Joseph Fell (bass/vocals); which found its completed form as a trio with the additions of Angel Enkeli (drums) and Liam Duncan (guitars). The name Fell Harvest came from a dream Fell had where he was walking through a deserted vineyard with every vine bearing bleached bones and rotting flesh. He woke up and wrote a short poem called “The Fell Harvest” about the images and feelings.

Probably the most unique aspect of their live sound is rooted in the fact they are a trio. It’s somewhat rare these days to see a three-piece band in extreme metal, and even more rare to see one that is as melodically driven as Fell Harvest. Fans can hear parallels to bands like Paradise Lost and Rotting Christ, but more careful listeners can hear nods to Venom and King’s X as well.

The band debuted a self-titled EP in 2020 and is following it up with “Pale Light In A Dying World” out on July 16, 2021.

Fell Harvest is excited to release their second album “Pale Light In A Dying World” and ahead of that, offer “Thy Barren Fields” as a second sample of what’s to come via its premiere on TheObelisk HERE.

The single is the second track on the album and the only one that was not written in its entirety by bassist/vocalist Joseph Fell. Some of the inspiration for the lyrics in the track comes from a poem Fell wrote, which shares its title with the band’s name. Guitarist Liam Duncan wrote a part for the song, which Fell built the rest of the piece around. Fell explains the track in further detail:

“I think it proved to be the strongest and most complex song on the record and I’m hopeful that future songs will have more contributions from Liam and Angel. For a long time, I have put rails around my writing. I would write a riff that I loved but shelve it because it wasn’t what I imagined the band I was in at the time to be. I made a conscious effort not to do that with this record. Any the idea was on the table as long as it was good and could flow with the rest of the material.”

Fell continues to explain that this is likely his favorite song on the album and the one he is most proud of. It encompasses a broad scope of influences while never feeling like it’s reaching or forcing anything. Listeners should be able to connect to this song, with its progressive elements alongside very straight forward doom and death metal tropes, vocal styles and lyrical concepts.

Suitable for fans of slow-paced and sorrowful doom, Fell Harvest is recommended for listeners of Opeth, My Dying Bride, and Agalloch.

“Pale Light In A Dying World” is out on July 16, 2021.

Hailing from Cheyenne, Wyoming, USA, Fell Harvest etch out their place in the world of doom metal. They first introduced themselves to the scene in 2020 with a self-titled EP and are now following it up with a “Pale Light In a Dying World”.

Most of the tracks on this album were written by bassist/vocalist Joseph Fell including the first single “Titanicide”, which also happens to be the album’s opening track. He explains the track in his own words:

“This song is built around a collection of riffs I wrote more than 20 years ago. It has heavy influence from 90s bands like Samael and At The Gates. These riffs sat homeless in the back of my head all this time because I never felt an urge to unify and complete them. The title and lyrics are about transcending and ultimately destroying one’s idols, both literally and metaphysically.”

Fell and the rest of the band are excited to get feedback about this release; compared to its predecessor, it has more progressive elements while maintaining the straightforward doom and death metal tropes, and lyrical concepts. Those who are familiar with the band will notice a markedly different vocal style coming from Fell, entirely “clean” with no death or black metal harshness, which is the result of lung damage he sustained from contracting COVID during recording.

The album was mixed and mastered by Alexander Backlund, the man behind 1914’s “The Blind Leading the Blind”. It is recommended for fans of Paradise Lost, Opeth, and My Dying Bride.

“Titanicide” can be heard via its premiere on OutlawsofTheSun HERE.

“Pale Light In A Dying World” is out on July 16, 2021.

After two solid single releases, Canada’s Within Nostalgia is streaming their new album “Void and Decay”. This album follows up their debut album “Conjuring A New Reality”, which was released in 2019. Taking the reins as a duo, they have forged forward continuing to weave dark melodies and haunting riffs together to create a sound that is intriguing in its uniqueness.

Refusing to be restricted to a single sub-genre, Within Nostalgia flirts with a wide range of influences, including black, doom, and death. The band comments on the album:

“We’re very excited to put this release out. Not only for fans but for ourselves as well since we’ve really found our sound and direction. You can obviously tell there is a black metal influence but it’s so much more than that on this album. We’ve really embraced the strangeness of our sound and let go of any preconceived notation of what “metal” is to us.”

Citing that their writing process has changed considerably since they first began, Within Nostalgia takes unbridled emotion and shapes it into something tangible and enjoyable for listeners.

“Void & Decay” is a dark album, having a lot to do with the current state of our society. Within Nostalgia put a lot of pain and anger in this album that was inside of them, perhaps subconsciously and through that, they found some strange positive light.

Recommended for fans of My Dying Bride, Nachtmystium, and Enslaved, the full album “Void & Decay” is now streaming via its exclusive premiere on Decibel Magazine HERE.

The full album “Void & Decay” comes out on December 18, 2020.

“…this one is getting a 9. There is a clear step to the next level and the solidifying of a band’s goals and sounds. I will be eagerly anticipating their next full length—I have no doubt it will blow me away. The path that “Void & Decay” has set them upon will only bring success.” – Metal Temple

Within Nostalgia announced their album “Void and Decay” recently with the first single “Desideratum” and now they present a second “Beneath Unworthy Presence”. The single continues the band’s proclivity towards honest and haunting music, and this release reflects a personal and unique journey. Within Nostalgia hopes that listeners can relate to the music and lyrics in a meaningful way and be able to gain their own perspective from it.

Currently, the band is a duo between founder Alyssa Broere (rhythm guitar/bass/vocals/drum programming) and Kyle Bell (lead guitar/bass/drum programming), who have been working on this album since the release of 2019’s “Conjuring A New Reality”. Now with a firm grip on the creative trajectory for the band, the sound had morphed into what is meant to be the truest form of Within Nostalgia.

“Beneath Unworthy Presence” takes the listener on a journey in the sense that there are many parts, ranging from harsh vocals, blast beats, and double bass to clean vocals and almost a “dance-y beat”. The band further explains the track:

“It was the third song written for the album and represents many different aspects of the genres that inspire us. This song goes into the concept of humans not being worthy of this earth because of the damage that we do to it on a daily basis. It talks about the natural karma that takes place here and how natural disasters happen as a way to depopulate and show us who really is in control. ‘Trees shall grow beneath unworthy presence’ represents the fact that nature will continue to thrive and take back what is rightfully its own.”

Powerful and unique, Within Nostalgia is recommended for fans of Agalloch, My Dying Bride, and Nachtmystium.

“Beneath Unworthy Presence” can be heard via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

As the snow begins to fall across their home country of Canada, Within Nostalgia gear up to release their second album “Void and Decay”.

Formed as a creative outlet for negative emotions, Within Nostalgia came about from the desire to look into the past for a different perspective today. The band expects this offering to be received with curiosity and hopefully with an open mind. Their music, especially this album, has an immense range of genres within it, and being a two-piece collaboration, “Void and Decay” brings on a different dynamic and feel.

The tracks on this album reflect a certain time in the duo’s lives. “Void and Decay” portrays the two extremes; the void is the destined path of our society whereas the decay represents the result of the chaos in the world we live in. The lyrics come from a personal expression that encompasses many forms of emotion and observation as well as relating these things to nature. The inspiration comes from self-reflection and the reflection of the world around us, turning negative events and emotions into something relatable.

The single “Desideratum” was written by Bell shortly after the release of the last album and is the song used for the official single video. The song features heavy guitar riffs, double bass, and harsh vocals with a break just over halfway building up into a furious bridge riff. It ends with the chorus riff into a dead stop. The band explains the single further:

“Desideratum means something that is needed or wanted and lyrically it relates to the current state of society with the pandemic and that things like this are necessary to teach us a lesson and to depopulate for the better of the earth.”

The dark and thoughtful music of Within Nostalgia is recommended for fans of Woods Of Ypres, Agalloch, and My Dying Bride.

The music video for “Desideratum” can be viewed via its premiere on NoCleanSinging HERE.

The full album “Void & Decay” comes out on December 18, 2020.

From North Bay, Canada comes WITHIN NOSTALGIA and their gritty video for the single ‘Death Lifes’ Lover’ off their recent release “Conjuring A New Reality”.

Cold and haunting, the video shows off the band’s flair for combining styles, with a diverse mix of sounds ranging from sadness to uplifting all the while staying powerful and unique. As a live fan favourite it was chosen as their second single and ultimately a video. Going into the particulars of the track is front woman and songwriter Alyssa Broere:

“With its catchy hook and thought-provoking lyrical concept, this one is always a favorite for us to play as well. Amongst the catchiness and melody, the bridge brings forth a death metal feel that segues back into the melody.”

“Conjuring A New Reality” was released on October 5th of this year and was met with an overwhelming local response. Taking notes from bands such as Agalloch, Katatonia, and Fen; WITHIN NOSTALGIA creates a bleak melodic soundscape filled with honest emotion and aggression. The band says about the album:

“’Conjuring A New Reality’ as a whole covers much musical ground in terms of sound. Peaks and valleys emerge, evoking vast emotions. We want to create something that allows fans to expand their minds as well as think and feel life and all its highs and lows.”

Recommended for fans of post-metal, black gaze, and black metal, the video can be seen via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

“Conjuring A New Reality” is available on Bandcamp, Spotify, and Apple Music.

Track Listing:

About:

Nostalgia began in the summer of 2013 in Burlington, Ontario as a one-woman project inspired by the beauty of nature and dark emotion. Alyssa Broere wrote and recorded all instruments (drums, bass, guitar, and vocals) with only demo songs released. With relocation to North Bay winds of change began to set in and the addition of two members James Ahola (bass and backing vocals) and Kye Bell (drums), a live and full sound were created. In October of 2016, they released their first EP entitled “Visions”. Chad Hemmings joined on lead guitar for a fuller sound and as of January 27, 2018, the much-anticipated debut album “Internal Momentum Of Fate” came to fruition.

Following a brief lineup change, Liam Ahola and Sara Vi were added to the roster and Kye exchanged his drum sticks for a guitar. Nostalgia changed their name to Within Nostalgia as a new and more sophisticated sound was created. On October 5, 2019, their full length entitled “Conjuring A New Reality” was released into the world and is being met with great response all over the globe.

“Executing a production influenced by the delicate line of the Post-Rock adorned with atmospheric Shoegaze passages, the voices interpreted by the women are aggressive roars of black metal which are interspersed with soft voices giving harmony to the compositions etc. A release inspired by the beauty of nature that must be heard by fans of the genre” – El Abismo Del Metal

Featuring 12 brutal tracks mixed and mastered by Warkhoros, the album showcases an assault of diversity, from intense blast-beats to acoustic compositions to using different ethnic instruments such as drymba/munnharpe, jouhikko, bukkehorn, flutes, duda, and trembita.

The band comments:

“Capricious and unpredictable streams of life, violent waves and the hypnotic blue of the the universe’s depths… an element that can withstand anything that will happen on the way… a bottomless stellar sky, reflected on a calm mirrored surface that in an instant turns into an incredible dance of the wind and drops, and spins in a gigantic powerful VYR.”

0 NEWS: Canadian Atmospheric Post-Metal ABANDONED PALACE Offer Free Download “Shades of Autumn”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – April 14, 2017

Canadian Atmospheric Post-Metal ABANDONED PALACE Offer Free Download “Shades of Autumn”

Canadian atmospheric post-metal project ABANDONED PALACE have just released their new single “Shades of Autumn” for free download or pay-what-you-want via their Bandcamp site at the following link: https://abandonedpalace.bandcamp.com/track/shades-of-autumn

It’s been 2 years since the release of their self titled debut EP and mastermind Von Warugi (AKA Chris Warunki, drummer of prog metal band OmnisighT) says “This is just something to bridge the gap between our debut EP and the full length album to follow, likely late 2017.”

As for the alter-ego he states “It’s just a way to bring out my dark side musically and distinguish myself as a composer/producer. The drums really take a back seat to everything else going on within the songs; in fact I’m always writing the drum parts dead last, whereas in OmnisighT, the drums are my primary role and focus.”

ABANDONED PALACE was formed in 2013 (debut EP released in 2015) and involves Von Warugi handling all writing, instruments and production – you could almost call it a “solo project” were it not for the lead vocals and lyrics where he’s joined by his faithful collaborator, known only as “The Void”; whose contributions on “Shades of Autumn” range dynamically from whispers to black metal and death metal style vocals.

Lyrically “It’s a reflection on inevitability. Fear of what we all must face can be crippling, but there is much to appreciate along the way, just like the colours of fall. As time goes by, it can get easier to lose sight of that until it’s too late…” says The Void.

Musically, ABANDONED PALACE weave a somber spell of black, folk, doom, gothic and atmospheric metal to create an intoxicating concoction that would likely appeal to fans of Agalloch, Katatonia, Swallow The Sun and Coldworld.
