Calgary YYC Music Awards Announce 2019 Winners


Showcasing and honouring the incredible musical talent produced in the Calgary area for the last three years, the 
YYC MUSIC AWARDS presented by Music Centre Canada held their 4th annual gala on Sunday, September 22nd at The Palace Theatre. The awards event recognized artists in 21 categories and saw performances from Miesha & The Spanks, Nice Horse, Sheldon Zandboer, Punch Drunk Cabaret, ZaireInk & Afuhmbom Music, and the School of Rock Calgary South House Band.

The highlights of the night go-to both T.Buckley  and Miesha & The Spanks for each winning three awards. T. Buckley was awarded Folk Recording of The Year, Male Artist of The Year plus Songwriter of The Year and Miesha & The Spanks was honoured with Female Artist of The Year, Rock Recording of The Year and Single of The Year. All artists nominated were from Calgary along with its surrounding cities of Airdrie, Banff, Canmore, Cochrane, Strathmore plus other areas that are up to a maximum of 125 km radius from the City of Calgary. All nominations were for commercially released material between March 1st, 2018 and February 28th, 2019.

Calgary’s YYC Music Awards Open 2019 Submissions

Showcasing and honouring the incredible musical talent produced in the Calgary area for the last three years, the YYC MUSIC AWARDS is proud to announce artist submissions for its 4th annual gala being hosted on September 22, 2019, at The Palace Theatre. Submissions will open as of March 1st until May 31st. Last year’s event toasted 20 award categories and witnessed highlights such as power trio The Static Shift winning three awards for Group of The Year, Rock Recording of The Year and Single of The Year along with songstress Kate Stevens winning two awards for Female Artist of The Year and the Zackariah & The Prophets Memorial Award (full list of 2018 YYCMA winners here). This year’s 2019 YYCMA’s will celebrate artists in 23 categories with nominations and tickets for the gala being announced on July 26th, 2019.

This event was born from our love and pride of this city’s talented music scene, and it’s always an exciting time to see Calgary artists submit their work. Artists interested in submitting their works for the 2019 YYC Music Awards can apply at the following link: https://yycmusicawards.com/apply/online-submission-form/ (Submissions begin March 1st and end May 31st)

Please note submission requirements:

Recording Submission:
The album or single must have been commercially released between March 1st, 2018 and February 28th, 2019 to be eligible. This time frame will be strictly enforced, and the YYCMA will not accept submissions for materials released outside this time frame. Singles may not be part of a collection previously nominated.

Who can apply?
Artists from the Calgary area, including Airdrie, Banff, Canmore, Cochrane, Strathmore, and areas up to a maximum 125 km radius of the City of Calgary.

Deadline:
To be considered for a 2019 YYC Music Award, submissions must be received by midnight Mountain Time on May 31, 2018. No extensions will be granted.

Honouring members of the Calgary music community, the YYC MUSIC AWARDS is proud to announce the 2018 winners from their 3rd annual gala hosted this past Sunday, September 23rd at The Palace Theatre (219 8 Ave SW). The event was witness to a collective of artists and industry coming together to celebrate Calgary’s energetic and active music scene in 20 award categories along with performances by some of the city’s up and coming artists Kobra and The Lotus, MD Lyonga, Michelle Minke, School of Rock Calgary South House Band, The Bluesland Horn Band, The Wardens, and Kirby Sewell & The Blues Serenade. Calgary’s YYC Music Awards Announce 2018 Performers

Honouring members of the Calgary music community in 20 categories this year (listed below), the YYC MUSIC AWARDS is proud to announce this year’s performers for their 3rd annual gala on September 23rd at The Palace Theatre (219 8 Ave SW. Taking to the stage during the awards ceremony will be Kobra and The Lotus nominated for Group of the Year, Music Video of The Year, Rock Recording of the Year, MD Lyonga nominated for World Recording of the Year, Michelle Minke nominated for Female Artist of the Year, School of Rock Calgary South House Band, The Bluesland Horn Band nominated for Blues Recording of the Year, The Wardens nominated for Folk Recording of the Year along with special guests & after party performers Kirby Sewell & The Blues Serenade .

“The YYC Music Awards strives to represent Calgary’s rich and diverse music community. We are delighted to announce a list a performing artists at the 2018 YYCMA Gala, representing multiple music genres, as well as a performance by a group of Calgary’s young musicians. The YYC Music Awards Foundation invites the city of Calgary to join us at The Palace Theater on September 23rd to celebrate our talented artist and the art they create.” comments YYCMA Media Director Shannon Ambrose.


The YYC Music Awards celebrate artists from Calgary along with its surrounding cities of Airdrie, Banff, Canmore, Cochrane, Strathmore plus other areas that are up to a maximum of 125 km radius from the City of Calgary. Artists participating in this year’s awards were nominated for their commercially released material between March 1st, 2017 and February 28th, 2018.
