Situated in the Okanagan Valley with the beautiful backdrop of the Rocky Mountains, ARMSTRONG METALFEST, now in its ninth year, is British Columbia’s largest gathering of metalheads from across Western Canada and beyond. The fest has put together a free digital sampler to give fans a taste of this year’s 2017 line up being held on July 14th and 15th at the Hassen Arena in Armstrong, BC. This year’s headliners include Boston’s tech death / thrash titans REVOCATION, Vancouver’s reggae-metal fusion NINJASPY, Canadian 80’s thrash legends AGGRESSION and Vancouver Whammy Award Best Local Metal Artist winner GOLERS among many more from across the country. “The team members of West Metal Entertainment poured their sweat and blood into making this year’s line up for Armstrong Metalfest the best year yet! A large portion of this year’s line up consists of bands who will be releasing albums in 2017. The fact that so many bands in Canada are able to write and record quality material is a real testament to the thriving metal scene we have. The band submission process is a grueling gauntlet of awesomeness, but personally I love every second I dedicate to the brilliant artists of Canadian Metal!
I am especially excited to have Revocation on this year’s edition of Armstrong Metalfest. Their style is hella fitting for the festival and I know they will be well received! Also, their album “Great Is Our Sin” is fantastic front to back. I’ll be front row center screaming my heart out for sure!

Nestled in the Okanagan valley, the town of Armstrong has become British Columbia’s largest mosh pit. Trembling the Rocky Mountains and creating a gathering of metalheads like no other in Western Canada, ARMSTRONG METALFEST, now in its ninth year returns with a 2017 line up that metal fans from across country will feast on from sunrise till way past sunset on July 14th and 15th at the Hassen Arena.
This year’s headliners include Boston’s tech death / thrash titans REVOCATION, Vancouver’s ska-metal champions NINJASPY, Canadian 80’s thrash legends AGGRESSION and the Broken Neck Radio peoples choice winner GOLERS among many more from across the country. (full list below)

Delivering a high caliber of Western Canadian and international bands with the glorious backdrop of the Rocky Mountains in the Okanagan valley for the last eight years, Armstrong Metalfest is proud to announce the first eight bands to join the 2017 line up taking place on July 14th and 15th at the Hassen Arena in Armstrong, BC.

Hard hitting Viking power thrash, for fans of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Manowar and 3 Inches of Blood. Odinfist has been around the Okanagan Valley for a number of years now and has participated in a variety of major shows in their area including headlining Armstrong Metalfest in 2009 and 2010 along with co-headlining in 2011. They have supported a variety of other bands such as Kataklysm, Thor, 3 Inches of Blood, etc. Odinfist’s latest album, “The Old Lighthouse” is available now!

A Canadian death metal band that hails from the industrious town of Edmonton, Alberta, Eye of Horus profess a global initiative, an industrious work ethic, and a love for their craft. Every town has stories to caution or warn, every police officer has a seen a crime that keeps them awake at night, and every coroner has seen death in ways that the rest of us could never imagine. Murder, conspiracy, supernatural horror, and real-life terror are stains on the cutting room floor where Edmonton-based group Tales of The Tomb paints their canvas. The band has their eyes poised to victimize their audiences anywhere they can reach. Their debut album Volume One: Morphras EP was unleashed on audiences November 27, 2015. This concept album about murder was mixed and mastered by Euro-death metal master Dan Swano (ex-Bloodbath, Unisound) and is just the first of many more sonic crimes to come from Tales of The Tomb.

What started as a backyard party in 2009 with nothing but eleven local metal bands such as Terrifier, Xul and Odinfist to name a few, has grown into a a huge success admired by the Western Canadian Metal scene. 2016 was the eighth year of the festival and was its largest year for music and attendance. Previous years of the festival have seen line ups with Cattle Decapitation, Suffocation, Anciients, Bison BC, Striker, Crimson Shadows, Holy Grail, Archspire, Cryptopsy, Unleash The Archers, Divinity, Into Eternity, Ninjaspy, Vesperia, XUL, Odinfist, Death Toll Rising, Gomorrah among many others.

What are the Whammys?
The Whammys are a annual, local, independent music awards ceremony. The event pays homage to the incredible achievements local artists have accomplished the year previous.
The Whammys brings humour and entertainment during a celebration that offers recognition to the local largely underground and under-celebrated artistic talent in Vancouver.
In additional news, Armstrong Metal Fest in association with the Western Canadian Metal Festival Alliance (WCMFA) is launching a new initiative for the Western Canadian metal music community to be more involved and aware of the area’s collective. Launching the #666kmchallenge, AMF and the WCMFA’s goal is to encourage more financial support and purchase of local musicians’ music and merchandise to boost the area’s music economy. The initiative was inspired by the 100 mile diet, which aims to have people buy and eat food within 100 miles of where that person lives. The AMF and the WCMFA has decided to apply that concept to the Canadian Music Scene with the #666kmchallenge.
How it works:
Music lovers of metal and any other genres are encouraged to buy music and merchandise from bands / musicians within 666 kilometers of where they live.
For example: Kelowna is within 666 km from both Calgary and Victoria, therefore people from Kelowna could buy anything from bands in those areas and it would be considered a part of the #666kmchallenge.
You don’t necessarily have to follow that example or even set a goal, just buy local merchandise and post it online!
After purchase you are to take a picture of it and post it online via your social media (ex. instagram, facebook, twitter) with the hashtag #666kmchallenge. Post how much it cost and the AMF and WCMFA will keep a tally of the money raised!
Why the #666kmchallenge?
The idea behind it… if people bought more merchandise from bands, they would have more money to invest into costly things such as recording and touring! The overall impact would be the growth of the already amazing Western Canadian metal scene!
