A Devil’s Din are the psychedelic brainchild of UK-born Montreal-based multi-instrumentalist David Lines; joined on his creative journey by disciple of the Rickenbaker bass Thomas Chollet, and virtuoso drummer Dom Salameh
They are a trio of sonic alchemists that together create a chemical wedding of cosmic chords, constantly seeking the philosopher’s stone of the perfect psychedelic song…and as we all know, it’s not the journey…it’s the trip!
And A Devil’s Din certainly takes listeners on a trip…a journey to the center of the psyche with their superb mind-expanding music created for all the right reasons. Inspired by The Beatles (66,67), Syd Barret-era Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Byrds, Lines describes his band’s music as ‘adventurous, transcendent, melodic, esoteric, rockin’!”.
A Devil’s Din has two fine albums under their collective kaftans, “One Day All This Will Be Yours” (2011) and “Skylight” (2016), and now, as though creating a trans-dimensional triptych, they unleash “One Hallucination Under God”.
Lines has very positive aims.
“A Devil’s Din plays a form of rock music that takes cues from both psychedelic and progressive styles. Our goal is to create adventure though sound, hopefully allowing out listeners to connect with something more along the way. We know it’s only rock ‘n’ roll, but we want to have a positive effect on their psyche, not just through the music, but with words as well…This album is a trip to listen to, full of grooves and hooks and colour and meaning that will resonate with the Experienced Mind!…Overall the theme of the album is about “Perception Versus Reality”, our world is essentially a subjective experience, a reflection of our individual thoughts and judgments!”

“‘Eternal Now’ opens the album. It’s an upbeat song with a snazzy guitar riff and verse sung in three-part harmony. The chorus is the closest thing we have to a pop song, but when pop wasn’t a disposable, corporate-driven product. Overall, the theme of the album is about ‘Perception Versus Reality,’ how our world is essentially a subjective experience and a reflection of our individual thoughts and judgments. This idea is perhaps best expressed by semanticist Alfred Korzybski’s dictum, ‘The map is not the territory.’ Songs like ‘Sea of Time,’ ‘Eternal Now,’ ‘Where Do We Go?’ and the title-track all touch on this theme: how we are born into a reality and then conditioned into accepting that this version of reality is ‘it’… And anyone who’s been on the Psychedelic Path will tell you otherwise.”

Toronto, ON’s Adrian Pain & The Dead Sexy announce they will be embarking on “The Dead Are Living Canadian Tour” that will see the band performing dates in cities across the Canadian prairies, which includes the Days of The Dead Fest in Red Deer, AB on October 28th with Anciients, Ninjaspy, Dusty Tucker, Without Mercy and more. The band will also be kicking off the tour on October 5th in Toronto, ON supporting Wednesday 13 and Eyes Set To Kill at The Rockpile.

The “Mixed Messages” EP is a marriage of Adrian Pain’s solo endeavours and The Dead Sexy’s band work to follow EPs “Picture Day At Night School” (2014) and their debut “The First One Is Free” (2013) along with Pain’s solo full length “Love Letters & Suicide Notes” (2012).
Pain describes “Mixed Messages”:
“This release is like the gateway drug to metal and heavier music in general! We appeal to a very wide range of musical tastes so guys can play us for their girlfriends, and girls can play us for the guys. If you identify another way, you can play us for whomever you’d like. If any negative response comes out of it, it’ll be the fans that expect every song to get heavier with each effort. What I hope they notice is the constant evolution of our sound. The music itself is getting more and more diverse and progressive, while the song structures are also evolving into bigger, more complex arrangements. I want everyone that listens to this record to feel an emotional connection. I want people to relate to, and hear the MESSAGE in each track.”

In 2010, vocalist and songwriter Adrian Pain endured events that would have left most men shattered and broken. Unwilling to take prescribed medications for his severe depression, he found inner strength in the form of the lyrics and music that sprang from his suffering. Together with his son and drummer Ethan Clark, formed a new family in the shape of their band, Adrian Pain & The Dead Sexy. Adrian describes their music as “torment and triumph, sonic seduction.” They have transcended their initial influences of Deftones, Alexisonfire, and Of Mice & Men, to a genre of metal they have given a name of its own. “We like to call what we do ‘Allcore’ … To break it down as far as metal sub-genres go, I think what best describes us would be a blend of Progressive & Nu-metal, with Post-Hardcore & Metalcore …or NuMetalcore if you’d like!”
Just as they deliver shock and awe on record, Adrian Pain & The Dead Sexy‘s live performance is a constant energy exchange. Their sets have a life of their own. One minute the whole room can be bouncing, the next there may be a pit, or there can be a complete hush over the crowd while they catch their breath and listen intently as the band engages them and the fans interact back with them. This showmanship has lead Adrian Pain & The Dead Sexy to blow up the Toronto music scene, headlining major clubs such as Sound Academy, Virgin Mobile Mod Club, Hard Rock Café for Hard Rock Rising, Bovine Sex Club, The Rivoli, Lee’s Palace, and The Horseshoe Tavern along with locally supporting touring bands such as Mushroomhead, Wednesday 13, Eyes Set To Kill, Anvil, Killer Dwarfs, Sid Wilson / Slipknot After Party, Die Mannequin, Carol Pope, Sumo Cyco, Dance Laurie Dance, Castle and more. Writing tunes about space travel, doomed seafarers and a sentient android hellbent for a camel killing death crusade, Nashville’s HOWLING GIANT shared last August part one of their three part “Black Hole Space Wizard” concept record series. A year later, the nerd power trio returns with part two of the adventure set for release on August 25th. Playing self-indulgent, drop-tuned, fuzzed out riffs “Black Hole Space Wizard: Part 2” is again produced by the band, mixed by Kim Wheeler and mastered by Chris Fasco. The EP features six cosmic progressive travels of ‘The Pioneer’ continuing his quest for self-discovery and purpose on the husk planet, Earth.

About:
HOWLING GIANT! The very name summons up mental images of a huge mutated orc-warrior astride an even more gigantic mastodon, ready to bring death, doom, damnation and destruction (and many other things beginning with “d”) down upon its enemies.
Names matter, and something magical happened when three nerds obsessed with all that is fuzzed-out, riffed-out, and heavy came together to compose cosmic odes to space travel, doomed sea-farers, and even an android on a camel-killing crusade (what harm did the poor camel ever do to him?), under the name HOWLING GIANT.
Drummer Zach Wheeler says the name is no accident and reflects the band’s music.
“Howling Giant sounds a lot like a loud beast, which is what we strive to do musically. We aim to create a full sound that people might normally expect from a five-piece rather than a power-trio.”
Indeed, by employing the three-piece format, HOWLING GIANT is following in the footsteps of legends like Motorhead, MC5, Cream, and Corrosion of Conformity; good company to be in! As the band’s philosophy would have it wisely: “Teamwork makes the dream work.”
Hailing from Nashville, HOWLING GIANT obviously had some special metal immunity to all the country and western music in the air. The boys started jamming at school in Boston with an aim to move away from overtly serious music and have fun, describing their music accurately as “loud, energetic, heavy, melodic, and cosmic.”
Overall, HOWLING GIANT’s music forms part of a fascinating Black Hole Space Wizard concept EP series, which the trio returns with Part 2 due out on August 25th, 2017 to follow Part 1 released almost exactly a year prior.

Over the six tracks, the EP follows a story line and becomes a journey. The diversity in sound between tracks keeps it exiting throughout. Part one of the EP series set the standards high, but ‘Black Hole Space Wizard: Part 2’ exceeds this massively. As a band that are showing strong growth as their career pans out, I cannot wait to hear what unique and exiting sounds they will create for part three.

Hailing from Vancouver, GARRETT are the self-titled brainchild of Sean Garrett, a multi-talented multi-instrumentalist and song writer, who, in the shape of Frank Baker on drums, Brian Jones on guitar and Gary Koenig on bass, has the band to take his unique musical vision to storm stages all over Canada and beyond.
GARRETT hails back to the halcyon days when bands had proper songs, full of melodies and finely-wrought lyrics. GARRETT are doing classic rock with a 21st century freshness!
Inspired by Dream Theater, Ronnie James Dio, King’s X, and classic rock like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Pink Floyd, Sean Garrett describes his band’s music as ‘progressive, edgy, melodic hard rock’.
