“With an album entitled RapThor, these Canadians certainly had my attention. The record turned out to be a hell of a ride through a mystical folk metal world complete with a “Troll Riding a Raptor,” “Boobs and Bacon,” and a track called “I Wish You Were Beer.” There’s a chance these guys are a tad tongue in cheek. Fun record.” – Metal Injection

“purveyors of fine folk metal” – PureGrainAudio

“The band puts it straight: the more beer, the better. Songs like ‘I Wish You Were Beer’ and ‘Boobs And Bacon’ are danceable drinking songs in the vein of Alestorm and Korpiklaani.” – Lords of Metal

” The album, which they released independently, starts with Troll Riding a Raptor a fast and heavy song that really is a kick to the head. The song is a great opener for the album.” Grimm Gent

“I certainly recommend sitting down with a good beverage of your choice and enjoy the boozy, epic, sometimes goofy, but ultimately FUN romp that is Rapthor…will leave you more than satisfied with a great big smile on your face.” – Overdrive Mag

“I might just be crowning the king of the bogs this year with the latest from Canada’s Nordheim…“RapThor” has 8 face smashing tracks in its 40 minutes of playing time. Let your melo-death juices flow as you get pulverized by track after relentless track, fueled by booze and chicks…A triumphant return for Nordheim and an end of the year stocking stuffer for album of the year candidate if I ever saw one… season’s greetings.” – Folk-Metal.nl

“From the very get go, the album packs that punch and releases an infinite energy that vaguely recalls the fastest of Black Metal bands. All the while there’s a subtle folk symph to their battle cries. RapThor feels excited to be here. The clean vocal chants of ‘Troll Riding a Raptor’ have easy hooks and feel fitting amongst the rest of the battling music. The shocking speed of each song dangerously thrusts you from song to song, a great example being ‘Scroll of a Lightning Bolt’ which deliciously speeds through its riffs.” – Noizze UK

“This is a fun folk metal album with titles like ‘Boobs And Bacon’ or ‘I Wish You Were Beer’. I guess all you can do is join the party, grab a beer and scream along with these tunes, just like you do when you listen to bands like Ensiferum, Finntroll or Korpiklaani.” – Merchants of Air

“Although this album has stepped up and introduced a heavier side, it’s still fast, and catchy. Guaranteed you’ll be partying by the end of it… and whats more of a party then dinosaurs and beer?” – Canadian Beats

“Finally, the four years of waiting have been worth it. The album in its entirety contains no flaws, eight songs of quality and strongly built. ” – Quebec Metal
“BEST FOLK METAL Band in the Province of Quebec 2011″ – Poll Promoted by WTF Metal ‘Zine in Feb. 2012”
“NORDHEIM would be perfect for the Annual PAGANFEST Tour !” Pete Woods – Metal Team UK ‘Zine

“This Canadian act could compete with Finntroll and Ensiferum!” – Nuclear Blast

So many bands make listeners choke from their sheer delusional pretentions of grandeur. Not Nordheim, their philosophy is simply to make fun folk metal, as can be evidenced by titles such as ‘Boobs and Bacon’ and ‘I Wish You Were A Beer’ on the band’s forthcoming album “Rapthor” due out on November 24, 2017.

The band comments:

“‘We want to give the fans one of the heaviest and nastiest folk metal albums to date with ‘RapThor’. It is different from our first two “Refill” (2013) and “Lost In The North” (2011). We had great feedback when we played the songs live. This album is the heaviest of them all while cutting back on the European folklore influences. It’s the result of our hard work over the last few years. It is super-heavy party music!”

Warraxe explains that Nordheim are truly a band of brothers. ‘We are a bunch of guys from Bellechasse, a small region south of the St-Laurent River in the province of Quebec. We were long-time friends and have metal as a common passion, one thing leads to another and we started a band.’

Live Nordheim really show their sense of fun. “When we play live it’s a frickin’ party! We move a lot, scream, hump the air, we drink from the fans’ beer bottles and in turn, we feed them beer, with the help of our friends and roadies coming up on stage and pouring beer in their faces. Usually between songs I’ll be making jokes about anything I can think of, as long as it’s dumb and incoherent! We have a strong sense of ‘bro-ness’ with our fans!”

Ominous Eclipse – Sinister (2018)

For fans of Gojira, Amon Amarth, Children Of Bodom, Death, Revocation

Release Date: September 14, 2018

LABEL: Self-Release

DISTRIBUTION: Distrokid

Facebook | Soundcloud | Youtube | Instagram | Bandcamp

iTunes | Amazon | Spotify | Google Play

“Their new song “Spiral Into Insanity” has a strong death metal foundation, including very melodic leads, but there’s more than enough groovy thrash inspiration and even a hint of black metal there. ” – Decibel Magazine

“‘Sinister’ is a high-energy track launched by heartless riff jabs, ear-scouring string squeals, and neck-snapping drumwork. The vocals come for your throat, too, in an effusion of heartless roars and face-scraping shrieks, and the song is accented by flurries of spidery, darting fretwork and by a pair of flashy, fluid, but demented solos. It becomes a thrashing gallop, but without becoming any less venomous in its delivery.” – No Clean Singing

“As the evolution of Ominous Eclipse has progressed, the band have hybridized a seething core of death metal sound with elements of thrash, black metal, and melodic death metal. But if “The Horde” is a sign of what’s to come next, they’re reaching for new levels of monstrous and electrifying destructiveness.” – No Clean Singing

“Whilst we wait with anticipation to hear the rest of the record ”Sinister” is yet another outstanding track on what looks set to be a very exciting record from ‘Ominous Eclipse’.” – Spirit Level Magazine

“a game changing release for Ominous Eclipse that places them center stage for my pick of the best Canadian Metal release this year….Every track stands strongly on its own, thanks to the band’s immense talent and flawless production. Ominous Eclipse is a band that carries the banner for the N.W.O.C.D.M. with pride and distinction. Out September 14th on all streaming platforms, I would recommend Sinister to fans of Death, Iron Maiden, Infernal Majesty and Gojira.” – Hellbound

“Demonstrating their ability to blend genres within metal to create a compelling album, this is an impressive sophomore delivery. Each track brings something different and feels refreshing even after multiple listens.” – Splice Magazine

“The music is technical, but not overbearing; it is fast but there are a lot of moments throughout the album where the music is allowed to breathe to convey more than just one feeling or mood. The music is infectious, catchy and would definitely sound amazing in a live setting. I think this change in sound really benefits the band. They are very cohesive and they can play a wide array of music. They wear their influences on their sleeves but never do they imitate. ” – Metal Utopia

“Sinister by Ominous Eclipse delivers a raw, refreshed and refined take on Death Metal, and have the potential to finalize their own sound and create something fantastic. For a local band of their stature though, the Quartet have me impressed, and if they continue to experiment with their demented harmonies, INSANE riffs and lyrical content, in a few short years they’ll be touring with bands such as The Black Dahlia Murder and Revocation.” – Overdrive Music Mag

““Sinister” est riche en variations, œuvre humaine et chaude qui malgré un son glacial offre des moments de pur bonheur.” – Music Waves

“With its undeniably relentless guitar riffs mixed with clean and crisp percussive elements, instrumentally Ominous Eclipse creates so many great harmonies that feel very reminiscent of bands like Children of Bodom and the Black Dahlia Murder. While the vocals for this band are pretty much your standard deep guttural growls that we are used to hearing in such pieces of music, it is the way the vocals experiments with his lows and highs that really offsets them from other bands of the same vein. Thematically, they tend to delve into some personal and moral issues of humanity, making this an interesting listening experience from track to track.” – Stencil Mag

““Lost at Sea” is an eight-minute, melodic death epic that really sees the Amon Amarth influence coming to the fore, blended with an almost NWOBHM sensibility…Sinister might not be the most polished of releases, but it’s an ambitious and intriguing one and Ominous Eclipse are certainly a band to watch out for in future.” – Heavy Blog Is Heavy

“The crowd was stellar at Mavericks, where each of the four bands were well represented by their fan bases. Opening on the night were Ominous Eclipse, whose chunky, frantic thrash metal din was led by their howling frontman. Largely drawing from their 2015 album End of Days, the four-piece pounded through six songs, tackling tracks like “Pestilence,” Abandoned” and the album’s particularly solid title track. Helping to limber the crowd for the chaos to come, they called for a “wall of death” in the confines of the club and the fans delivered, clearing the centre of the floor before the opposing sides barrelled into one another, bodies flying everywhere.” – Exclaim! (Live Review opening for Kalmah April 2016)

LONG BIO:

An ambitious band passionate about writing and playing extreme music, Ottawa based metal band Ominous Eclipse have been tearing up the local scene since 2014. Founded by Graham Murphy (guitar/vocals) and Ryan Clements (bass/vocals), and later joined by James Close (guitar/vocals) and  Jeremiah Marshall (drums) the band draws their inspiration from a wide variety of genres creating a unique sound all their own.

Founding member and movie buff Graham Murphy explains how they came up with the band name which was partially inspired from the movie “Pitch Black”.

“Ominous Eclipse follows the idea of the world falling into eternal darkness. The envisioned concept is of the earth being blocked off from the sun leaving the world in uncertainty and falling into chaos.”

Following the origin of the band name, many of the lyrical themes pay homage to the plots from  movies and books and sometimes situations in everyday life. Shortly after their formation in 2014, Ominous Eclipse released a four song EP “Beyond The Apocalypse” with a full length “End Of Days” following not long after in 2015. The band is gearing up to bring the third release “Sinister” to the light in the fall of 2018 on September 14th..

Not wanting to be easily categorized and predictable, the band finds that over their evolution from the first release they have moved away from thrashy overtones to become more diverse including more heavily stated melodic  and technical sounds with a solid groove and death foundation. Ominous Eclipse have been gaining speed in their region opening for bands such as Revocation, The Agonist and Kalmah and have also acquired an endorsement with Indie Guitar Co.. They are looking forward to their next release and spreading their music to a wider fan base.

Aussie Thrashers MASON To Support ANVIL Melbourne Date Nov 11th

New Album “Impervious” Out Now!

Crushing audiences across the globe with their driving force and energetic stage presence, Melbourne thrashers MASON deliver commanding performances that has taken them on tours across Australia and beyond in Asia, Europe plus Canada where they have shared the stage with the likes of Harlott, Havok, Accept, Revocation, Mutank and Annihilator.

As local favourites of the Melbourne metal scene, MASON have been selected as local direct support for Canadian metal demigods ANVIL and their show date on November 11th at The Prince Bandroom, which is part of the band’s 40th Anniversary World Tour. Ticket info here. Event details here.

Drawing influence from The Big Four and The Bay Area, MASON encapsulates the 80′s thrash sound mixed with fast tempos and a dominating rhythm section. The quartet unleashed their second full length “Impervious” this past October that features nine glorious thrashing tracks mixed and mastered by Erin Hamidovic (Devin Townsend Project, Sikth, Animals As Leaders, Periphery, Elm Street).

Vocalist / guitarist Jimmy Benson comments:

“During the demo process we wrote a lot of material, but the majority made the ‘Impervious’ album minus one or two songs. We spent a lot of time fine tuning the songs and making sure they kicked ass! For this album, we focused mainly on trimming the fat and stepping up the energy and tempos. Fast, focused and heavy! For those wanting to know more about this release. ‘Impervious’ touches on so many topics from suicide, death, terrorism and more events that happen to people around the world. When ya look at the front cover, it is a symbol of character and strength of a boy that goes about his everyday life in the worst conditions and does what is normal to him to get by day to day. To sum it up, this new album is powerful and holds a strong message from start to finish.”

“Support comes from Australia’s thrash sensations Mason says Annihilator main man Jeff Waters: “With all the great bands that sent in demos, cds and links, the one that stoof out was these guys. My guitarist Aaron and I sat and listened to some of their songs and realized that this band will kick our asses if we don’t start practicing a bit more! Killer thrash band and genuine.” – Jeff Waters Annihilator

“this really is thrash in its truest essence. If you were around when thrash first broke all those years ago, you have to listen to this record. You’ll be flabbergasted how tracks like Tears of Tragedy and The Afterlife make you feel just like you did in 1984-86, so effectively has the band captured the very essence of what thrash metal should look, smell and, most importantly, sound like. – Sentinel Daily

“When the first note gets in your ear you know it’s gonna be an awesome band.  It’s blowing riffs and a nice voice reminding you of many legends.” The Metal Mag

“The new album from Australian thrashers Mason, it surges through ears with rabid energy and unbridled aggression and proceeds to raise the ante groove by searing groove and hook by virulent hook.” – The RingMaster Review

Metatrone is a Christian power-prog metal band formed by musicians coming from many previous musical experiences, mostly involved in metal music. Davide Bruno, Jo Lombardo, Tony Zappa, Virgilio Ragazzi and Stefano “Ghigas” Calvagno whom formed the band in 1997 under the moniker of Metafora producing with Track Records Productions (TRP) a four track EP called “Reazioni e Memorie”, featuring some amazing anthems like “Una Parte di Me”.

As many things in life changes, it was four years later (2001) that one of the founding members, keyboardist Davide Bruno decided to begin a new spiritual journey bringing him to change completely his life becoming a Priest. After this important decision, another one will be essential: Metafora decided to change their moniker to METATRONE from that moment on. The new band’s name means “God is since now and forever”, consequently the band begins to write power-prog metal songs deeply inspired by a Christian Catholic view of life and human being. It was in 2005 when they produced with the help of TRP music their first album called “La Mano Potente” soon followed by the English version called “The Powerful Hand” distributed by Scarlet Records in Europe and King Records in Asia.

After its release, the band begun to play often live in Italy and around the world as well, playing at festivals like Elements of Rock twice, Tumbalong Park and World Youth Day in Australia just to name a few.

Following the extensive touring, the band began right away to create new material, which brought them to a new and higher musical and lyrical level. Their songs evolved with more influence from prog but powerful at the same time. Most of those songs were released on their third studio album, “Paradigma”. A stunning 13 track album produced by the band and TRP Music, it was officially released on December 25, 2010. The album featured songs sang in English, Italian, Latin and Spanish with some interesting growling vocal choruses performed by priest Davide Bruno himself and was praised with very positive reviews on some of the most popular metal magazines like Metal Hammer Italy, Metal Maniac and many other on-line publications.

In May 2012, METATRONE released their first video, “In Spe Resurrectionis” from “Paradigma” (winning the David Award as Best Italian Song at the V Premios David).

In June 2013, the band released a single track called “Heavenly Field” written against the Zionist policy supporting Gaza population at the time featuring Italian hip hop band One Crew as special guest on vocals.

In 2015, Metatrone entered in the studio to record their third full-length album “Eucharismetal” with a different line up: Tony Zappa and Virgilio Ragazzi were replaced by Dino Fiorenza on bass (Billy Sheehan, Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, John Macaluso) and Salvo “T-Metal” Grasso on drums (Hypersonic, DenieD). In November of 2015, the band released their video “Latest News From Light” in preview to “Eucharismetal” that was released in Europe by ROCKSHOTS Records on March 11, 2016. On the new album METATRONE re-released new versions of “The Powerful Hand” (remastered) and “Paradigma” as bonus tracks. “Eucharismetal” brought the band’s music to a wider audience with Christian Metal festival appearances in Europe and live gigs in Italy that included a triumphant concert in September 2016 at The Teatro Romano in Verona. In February 2017, the band released the second single/video “Molokai”. Soon after, just like in years past, another change with the band. It was after a very long internal discernment, that Davide made the decision to keep serving the Lord and the Catholic Church in the Laical form, giving up to practice as a priest. But with that change, the artistic mission with Metatrone is still on the run! “Eucharismetal” will be officially released in USA and Canada distributed by MVD Entertainment October 13, 2017.
