0 A DIFFERENT SHADE OF BLACK METAL ZINE – Sar Isatum Interview
0 Gorger – Sar Isatum – Shurpu “the band has assembled a collection of gripping songs with good variation on their 35-minute debut”
0 The Phoenix News – Decatur climb out to show Kelowna what they are made of.
The energy in the room was electrifying, and it was impossible not to mosh and head bang with intense vigour. The band’s connection on stage was infectious, as it was obvious that these guys loved what they were doing and loved doing it together.
0 Hellbound – A Devil’s Din – One Hallucination Under God – “Montreal psychedelic power trip A Devil’s Din continues to impress with this, their wittily titled third album. It is a timeless album, one with a great sense of fun and humour. Indeed, unlike so much of today’s music, it is positively positive!”

Denver symphonic black metal SAR ISATUM debut album “Shurpu” is now available digitally as of November 17th. Creating music for themselves, not copying what has come before, fans of various styles of black metal will find much to appreciate in this release. The debut album features seven blistering tracks that are ethereal, nefarious, abhorrent, and cryptic. The concept of the album is a loose collection of stories told from an omnipotent source to establish Sar Isatum, the Lord’s of fire perception of the world and thusly announce their entry into it through “Shurpu” a purification by fire.
Drummer Dalkhu comments:
“The album is a visceral piece of music, tight aggressive black metal that has punishingly brutal moments. The haunting keys give space to the musical assault and provide atmosphere with vocals that invoke a spirit of war.”
Teaming up with Black Metal Promotion, the Colorado trio is premiering the full album stream at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9snW8mARY4
“Shurpu” digital album order available on Bandcamp here. Physical CD will be available on December 22nd.

“We are gonna get on stage and take it on like a battle in a war. Expect an intense live show from us, like a fire destroying everything in its path.” says Dalkhu.

About:
Two things always contribute to creating epic original black metal…
One is location, and by being based in Colorado, the Rocky Mountains provide the ideal canvas for technical symphonic black metal band Sar Isatum to sweep broad musical brush strokes across a vast vista, musically, mentally, and physically.
The second is lyrical inspiration. Sar Isatum eschew all the usual flogged- to-death lyrical clichés of black metal to take inspiration from a variety of sources. The very name Sar Isatum comes from the Sumerian dialect. It means ‘King of Fire.’ Indeed, both the Sumerian and Annunaki empires provide strong lyrical inspiration.
Inspired by Emperor, Dark Funeral, Gorgoroth, Sothis and Craft, band member J.P Dalkhu describes Sar Isatum’s music as “ethereal, nefarious, repugnant, abhorrent, cryptic.”
Sar Isatum have high expectations of their upcoming debut album, but at the same time, Sar Isatum create music for themselves, not copying what has come before, but fans of various styles of black metal will find much to appreciate here. As Dalkhu so lyrically says Sar Isatum create “a variation of extreme and atmospheric black metal as if one went through a burning battlefield and witnessed horrid devastation.” Dalkhu feels that this is the best band its members have ever been a part of and are constantly evolving as musicians.
Lyrically, Demothi of Sar Isatum very much ploughs his own furrow, creating songs that feel as though they have always existed, a part of the fabric of space and time. “Sar Isatum’s lyrics are inspired by native folklore, science fiction, historical events, extraterrestrial theory and the reimagining of biblical happenings from outside points- of- view.”

“Combining symphonic, atmospheric and pummeling elements of black metal history, the band conjures an impressive battle cry that any grim fan can easily connect with.” – Metal Injection
“Sar Isatum is Sumerian, meaning “King of Fire”, and they even incorporate lyrical themes therefrom. Combined with their own majestic vistas of the Rocky Mountains, the combination makes for mighty sweepingly soaring black metal.” – No Clean Singing
“Sar Isatum are not messing about…Great symphonic black does not find its way onto my radar as often as it should these days but the ritualistic drumming leading into a blistering, well produced assault of technical obsidian majesty felt like a clarion-call charge into battle and served well as a savage statement of intent.” – Black Metal Daily
“Two things always contribute to creating epic original black metal. One is location, and by being based in Colorado, the Rocky Mountains provide the ideal canvas for technical symphonic black metal band SAR ISATUM to sweep broad musical brush strokes across a vast vista, musically, mentally, and physically.” The Grim Reader

Shemonic Metal ANARCHEON Posts New Video “Etherous Claws” + New EP Out Now! “Stratusfear”

L-R = Bass – Sylvain Maltais, Guitar – Clayton Bach, Drums – Steve Richardo, Vocals – Kaija Kinney
Formed in 2015, ANARCHEON features vocalist Kaija Kinney, founder of Metalocalypstick Fest, the BC metal fest celebrating women in metal, along with guitarist Clayton Bach, bassist Sylvain Maltais and drummer Steve “Machine” Richardo (ex-Messiah, ex-Green Jellÿ). With a band name playing off the word Anarchy, ANARCHEON is more of a Frankenstein of their various influences with their powerhouse of shemonic screams, catchy riffs and energetic heavy bass leads. Stealing the hearts and souls of fans in the Vancouver area and beyond since their inception, the quartet recently unleashed their new EP “Stratusfear” this past October.
Their first music video “Etherous Claws” directed by Markham Samuels and produced by Whitelf Films tells the story of ANARCHEON using the power of heavy metal to summon an ancient vampire from her slumber.
“This is our first music video so of course we are super stoked about it. We wanted to have a bit of a back story on the song in a more poetic way rather than literal. Our good friend with Whitelf Films did an amazing job getting our vision onto screen and looking sharp!” says vocalist Kaija Kinney.
“And for those checking out our EP, it’s basically a coming together of all four members. We had so much fun writing these songs. All four of us have very different music tastes so it was very interesting coming together with such chemistry and creating something that we were all stoked about. We are already gearing up for a full album!”
