Calgary, AB’s masters of straight ahead riff-rock wizardry WOODHAWK announce their 2018 Canadian “Magnetic North Tour” in support of their latest full length album “Beyond The Sun” released April last year and recently named the #12 most played release on the Canadian College Radio Top 20 Loud Charts for 2017 (Source: Earshot). The tour will see the trio trek across Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba plus performing for the first time in Ontario and Quebec (dates listed below).
The band comments:

“We’re excited to be hitting the road again and heading out East this time. We haven’t played past Winnipeg yet and we’re stoked to finally make it out there.”WOODHAWK’s debut album “Beyond The Sun” was produced by the band with Jesse Gander (Bison, Japandroids) to follow their 2014 self-titled EP.  Made of equal parts 1970’s Birmingham and a myriad of 21st century heavy who’s who, WOODHAWK are purveyors of riff-centric rock and roll. Capable and original, the band is able to craft anthemic fist-pumping songs while forgoing tired stoner rock clichés. With time travel tested themes of science fiction, swords and sorcery, the band’s lyrics are born from snowy winters, hot practice spaces and pages of dog-eared paperbacks. While the musicianship reinforces recollections of Black Sabbath, modern influences that have helped you smash air drums or highway speed limits are undeniably present.

‘Beyond The Sun’ album stream available on Bandcamp at https://woodhawk.bandcamp.com.

The album is available on digital, vinyl and CD.

The band’s music video ‘The High Priest’ can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5g5jTKtEfM

#12 on National Loud Top 20 for 2017- Canadian College Radio Charts (Earshot)

The best Canadian metal of 2017: Top 15, according to Hellbound.ca – #13 – Woodhawk

“Beyond the Sun is incredibly infectious and memorable and right from the get go, you know that you are in for a ride. Even if for whatever reason you are in a bad mood, this record will straighten that out in a hurry as it has you nodding your head and belting the lyrics out with the vocalist in no time….a release that is easy to listen to and get into but isn’t easy to put down by any means. Once you begin listening you have a hard time tearing yourself away from your speakers.” – Cadaver Garden

““Beyond The Sun, is overflowing with everything one could want from a great stoner rock record, thick, rumbling bass tones, sizzling guitar fuzz and infectious, mid tempo riffage, making this the kind of album that is very hard to stop listening to” – The Sludgelord

“Woodhawk have a new album – Beyond The Sun – and it’s one that ticks all right boxes if you’re a serious fan of Stoner Rock. Taking influence from bands such as Kyuss, The Sword and Truckfighters. Woodhawk offer a refreshing style of Psych Stoner Metal with moments of Fuzz and Desert Rock that add extra grit to their music.” – Outlaws of The Sun

“The whole album put me in a good mood. Although I am a fan of a more distorted and fuzz-y sounding stoner rock, this was a great cleaned up take…The killer trio band have really created their own rules. One of which is trying to throw out stoner rock stereotypes. And it’s working brilliantly for them. Beyond the Sun is exactly what one would expect from Woodhawk. Riffs and riffs and riffs and high energy drums and more riffs…Moral of the story: this is the perfect CD to pop on when you feel like dancing in your underwear while cleaning your room. I would recommend “Beyond the Sun” to anyone who would like a less distorted version of Red Fang. Which is definitely a compliment, for the record.” – Bangs!

“As I was walking into the venue, I began hurrying up the stairs as their sound captured my attention right away and was quickly swept up into their thick pulse thumping guitars and huge powerhouse drum sound.” – Vancity Buzz

“Calgarian riff-riders Woodhawk kicked off the proceedings, hitting all the gritty notes with their raucous roadhouse metal. Propane and Jack flowed freely as the golden western trio woke all them witches with their thematic rock fury.” – Beatroute Magazine

“This is an assured slab of stylish and progressive extremity from an obscenely talented band with shitloads of potential..” – METAL HAMMER

“Progressive metal outfit Neck Of The Woods have combined deep grooves, technicality and progressive elements and merged them with death metal on their upcoming debut release, The Passenger.” – DECIBEL MAGAZINE

“Their influences come from all over the prog metal spectrum (and beyond), and as such there really is no way to get any more specific. You’ll be tempted to compare them to Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, Soilwork and even Every Time I Die… and then there’s the guitar solo, which some straight up, epic Zakk Wylde shit. And that’s just on this one track from an album of nine.” – METALSUCKS

“Citing bands such as Between The Buried and Me, Opeth, and Gojira amongst their primary influences, the nine tracks which make up The Passenger offer a riveting blend of big riffs, big grooves, and equally big hooks which should readily appeal to fans of similarly Prog/Death-inspired acts like Iron Thrones (RIP) and Black Crown Initiate.” – NO CLEAN SINGING

Inspired by Between The Buried And Me, Opeth, Gojira, Misery Signals, Every Time I Die, Converge, and with a sonic palette as boundary-free as their unique and distinctive name, NECK OF THE WOODS are the most important thing any band can aspire to be…themselves. Guitarist Dave Carr describes their sound as “complex, dynamic, progressive, familiar metal.”

Founded in 2014, and hailing from Vancouver, BC, NECK OF THE WOODS soon released their self-titled debut EP. Earning their dues the old-fashioned way as a band should, they have toured hard, supporting the likes of Converge, Every Time I Die, and Misery Signals along with multiple festival performances at Loud As Hell, Sled Island, Armstrong Metal Fest and Calgary Metal Fest.

Proving that you reap what you sow, their hard work paid off and they signed to UK label Basick Records to release their debut album “The Passenger” in September 2017.

The debut album was recorded at Rain City Recorders and produced by Stu McKillop and the band, with art direction by vocalist Jeff Radomsky and layout design by Kevin Moore at Soft Surrogate. The nine-track offering truly captures the band’s crushing blend of progressive, death-inspired, technical, and groove-laden metal showcased magnificently in their music video “You’ll Always Look The Same To Me”.

Happy with fans reception of their debut album, guitarist Dave Carr comments:

“‘The Passenger’ went over fairly well with fans. It received a lot of good reviews and seems to be musically where people were expecting us to go next. We have always written music to satisfy ourselves creatively as well as technically. Luckily people seem to dig it! Hopefully it takes them on a musical journey.”

Unrelenting in their live performance, NECK OF THE WOODS continues to pound away at the wall of death with tour plans for 2018 across Canada and USA.

Guitarist Dave Carr adds.

“A genuine, high energy, good ass time. We’re always having a blast on stage and it resonates with the crowd. We’ve noticed people are quite engaged with is when we’re on stage. It’s always cool to look out and see people having a great time, but also trying to focus on how we’re playing a riff or song!”

“The Passenger” is available digitally through Basick Records here and on physical CD through the band’s bandcamp here.

Album and Live Band Line Up:

Dave Carr – Guitar

Travis Hein – Guitar

Jeff Radomsky – Vocals

Jeremy Gilmartin – Drums

Jordan Kemp – Bass

– 30 –

“Striker gush with so much enthusiasm here, with explosive riffs swirling between the vibrant harmonies and choruses, that it’s hard not to notice…Tracks like “Former Glory” and “Born to Lose” are anthemic, catchy as hell and feature soaring vocals from Dan Cleary and terrific guitar work by Tim Brown…On Striker, the band take a host of influences and hone them into a sound they can call their own.” – Exclaim!

“From the first storm-summoning power chord on the opener Former Glory, Striker (CAN) proves their new album’s initial claim of not dwelling on the past, a high and appropriate cry of “Yeah, I’m back again!”… If you haven’t witnessed this inspiring resurrection of classic metal, the band plays Friday, April 14 at Starlite with Ravenous and Tylor Dory Trio, no doubt sharpened from the faithful overseas audiences.” – Edmonton Journal

“When a band releases an eponymous album it’s a statement of intent, a sign of confidence, everything being as it should be. For make no mistake, Striker are a special band. As the old Metal Gods ascend to Valhalla, new gods will arise. This is Striker’s fifth album and it’s just timeless. Not retro, not looking back, but taking everything that’s uplifting and glorious about heavy metal into 2017 and beyond…this album has to be in every writer and fan’s top ten at the end of 2017.” – Hellbound

“A less balls out, more aggressive record than its predecessor, STRIKER delivers another impressive collection of high energy headbangers….Regardless of what your heavy metal predilections may be, STRIKER offers something for everyone. Super catchy tunes dripping with shred gymnastics and all around technical prowess, Striker deserves a place on any metal fan’s playlist….If you have not experienced Striker yet, this album is a worthy place to start and should appeal to a wide range of fans, particularly followers of the Priest, Anthrax and Maiden.” – Metal Rules
