  • · North Hammer

North Hammer hit all the right notes with ‘Stormcaller’, a strong and swift record full of great tracks and it leaves you invigorating and ready for anything. A record for axe swinging, mead swilling and blood spilling, ‘Stormcaller’ is one of the most fun and fist pumping records you’ll hear this year.

Unleashing their debut album “Race Against Time” this past January, Ottawa’s instrumental progressive metal trio THE DEAD CENTURIES’ full length features ten tracks of melodic, high energy and refreshing material. Influenced by Protest The Hero, Periphery, Paul Gilbert, Sithu Aye and Intervals, their release is full of hook and sinker compositions, shining guitar riffs and overall escapades through their instrumental progressive metal. Teaming up with New Noise Magazine, THE DEAD CENTURIES are showcasing their shredding chops with their second guitar playthrough for “Blood Dragon”.

“Blood Dragon is another high energy song focusing on the interaction between guitar lines. It features a dance inspired two handed guitar section which blends complexity with listen-ability. The final section of the song changes pace for a guitar solo which features bursts of harmonized guitar to add moments of increased intensity.” comments guitarist Adam Tremblett.

About:

Visionary and highly influential writer Michael Moorcock, who worked with the bands Hawkwind and Blue Oyster Cult, memorably stated that ‘it is the business of the future to be dangerous’.

Ottawa three-piece THE DEAD CENTURIES are both futuristic and dangerous…which is as it should be. Influenced by Protest The Hero, Periphery, Paul Gilbert, Sithu Aye and Intervals, THE DEAD CENTURIES can easily hold their heads up in such exalted company.

Composing and performing technically precise instrumental progressive metal, THE DEAD CENTURIES are rich in virtuosity, melody, compositional skills, and most importantly…they create superb music to listen to. This isn’t the sound of three musicians showing off their undoubted skills, rather they are serving their songs above all else, with every fibre of their beings, every neuron firing in their minds, every tendon in their bodies. In a sense it is as if the three musicians that make up THE DEAD CENTURIES have become one mind in their own music. Their debut album “Race Against Time” was released on January 26th, 2018.

“High energy instrumental metal, The Dead Centuries are all about massive hooks, futuristic riffs & technical melody. Opener Freddie Lounds is rich in skill, showcasing how a trio’s different abilities can combine to make something that sounds so grand & complete.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“they’re not here to show you their muscles, but to share their record collection with you through a bright, pacey, grinning album that deserves every spin. Ace.” – Overdrive Mag

“Race Against Time features ten tracks of high energy material that would be an ideal piece to add to the collection of any fan of progressive metal.” – Pure GrainAudio

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – March 9, 2018

DEEP DARK RIVER (Vesperia’s Morgan Rider) Premieres Debut Single “The Golden Bough” via PureGrainAudio

Best known for his vocals and bass playing in Canada’s much loved Vesperia, Morgan Rider is proud to reveal is his first single “The Golden Bough” via PureGrainAudio.com from his upcoming debut self-titled album for his new side project DEEP DARK RIVER. The solo endeavour combines all the humble qualities of blues, folk and classical into a well-balanced, artfully crafted musical reflection on life, hope and old-fashioned storytelling while delivering a uniquely fresh and uplifting listening experience.

Rider comments:

“The song has been the most organic and charged song I’ve ever written. It talks about the very real issues we are facing in 2018 in the wake of yet another avoidable tragedy.

Echoing a sentiment of a contemporary of mine: John Lennon. The man preached universal love and unity for people of all walks of life, only to have his own life taken one December night by a man armed with a firearm. How many more people have to lose their lives, how many families will have to put their loved ones into the ground before this crushing reality begins to even create a whisper of change? How long will it be before we realize that we are alone in an incalculably vast darkness; that we only have each other and the other sentient creatures on this planet for warmth and company.

The Golden Bough is about stripping away all the petty differences we visualize over our appearances, geographies and beliefs. To brace ourselves for the storm, we need to stand beside each other and remove the crowns we have fashioned for ourselves and for one another; to see what we truly are.”

Listen to the “The Golden Bough” at the following link: http://puregrainaudio.com/audio/scale-the-the-golden-bough-to-hear-deep-dark-rivers-new-single-exclusive-premiere

“The Golden Bough” is available for purchase and stream on Bandcamp, iTunes, and Spotify.

Show Dates:
March 9 – Whitby, ON – Melanie Pringles
March 11 – Bowmanville, ON – Manantler Craft Brewery

Inspired by legends like Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne, Megadeth and King Diamond, “While The Wheels Still Turn” is an album devoted to the love for old western cowboy films and the images these films conjure, the vast plains, endless horizons and the freedom of the Wild West. The album was tracked at Goatsound Studios in Melbourne, Australia, and then mixed in Canada, making the album a real rock n’ roll frequent flyer. Mixing duties were undertaken by none other than Grammy nominated producer and legend Glen Robinson, who had engineered, mixed and produced equally legendary acts like Annihilator, Queensryche and Voivod.

Vocalist/guitarist Darren Cherry comments:

“We really wanted to make an album similar to old Ozzy Osbourne record where songs like ‘I Don’t Know’ and ‘Goodbye To Romance’ can sit comfortably. This is music from the heart and soul!”

“While The Wheels Still Turn” is available on Amazon here and www.Rockshots.eu.

0 Spinning Thoughts – Album Review: Greystone Canyon – ‘While the Wheels Still Turn’ – “The guitar work on this album is fantastic. But it is the harmonies that catch my attention. “Path We Stray” has some really cool vocal harmony work that echos the dissonance used in old school Ozzy tracks. My favorite track on the album, entitled “River of Fire”, has some solid harmony in a slower song that has a really cool build to a heavy ending.”
