NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – March 31, 2018

CJLO 1690AM Montreal Unleash Free Metal Compilation “Burned In The Oven: Volume 2”

CJLO 1690AM in Montreal is proud to release Burned In The Oven: Volume 2, their second metal and loud rock compilation, now available for free download at cjlo1690am.bandcamp.com.

Volume two features some of the loudest and hard rocking-est tracks they’ve ever recorded at CJLO. Since this year marks their 20th anniversary, they’ve gone back into their vault and picked some of their favorite tracks from loud artists that have come by and recorded in their in-house recording studio, The Oven.
This compilation is as varied as CJLO’s musical taste, both past and present day. There’s something for everyone in here; the thrash metal of Striker, the punk and grime of Gutser, Indian Handcrafts, and Voltang, the weird spastic electro metal of Genghis Tron, the audio landscapes created by Meinyl or Set and Setting, the wall of noise and fury that is Waingro or just the good old fashioned rock laid down by Heart Attack Kids and Double Experience. There are even some “golden oldies” from the likes of The Bled and Fear Before the March of Flames. They even get a bit softer with the punk dudes from The Motorleague.

Track Listing:
1. The Bled – Hotel Coral Essex
2. Voltang – Lunatic Slick
3. Heart Attack Kids – Platonic Love Bomb
4. Indian Handcrafts – Delete Me
5. Striker – Crossroads
6. Waingro – Raleigh
7. Gutser – Encyclopedia Self-Destructica
8. Set and Setting – Acceptance
9. Fear Before the Marchc of Flames – Epic Song
10. Genghis Tron – Endless Teeth
11. Meinyl – Track 11
12. Double Experience – Gambit
13. The Motorleague – North America

Now of course, there are some bands and subgenres missing… specifically yours! If you’re in a band in or coming to the Montreal area that plays metal or hard rock, get in touch. They’re happy to try to have you come in and lay down some tracks. Regardless of your loud leanings, you’re welcome there.

If you want to send them your music to play or want stop by the station, or want more information, feel free to send an email to md-metal@cjlo.com

Burned In The Oven: Volume 1 is still available for download at https://cjlo1690am.bandcamp.com/album/burned-in-the-oven-volume-1

#7 FALLEN LEGION on Top 20 July 2018 Canadian College Radio Loud Charts (Earshot)

“Downfall is an impressive effort…Their musicianship is first class…” – Hellbound

“The band brings and fuses influences from Gojira, Korn, Iron Maiden, and Dethlok with its deeper lyricism and heavier tunes. The EP has something for all metal fans. ” – Canadian Beats

“If you are interested in bands such as Veil of Maya, Between The Buried And Me, Protest The Hero then you really ought to seek these guys out. If they can produce an EP of this quality when they are unsigned just what are they going to be doing then they have a label behind them?” – Frame Music Mag

“Like a cocktail of the idiosyncrasies of metal’s greatest eccentrics, Fallen Legion’s debut EP caters firmly to fans of the weirder shades of the genre. As easily comparable at one moment to System Of A Down as it is to Between The Buried And Me at another, ‘Downfall’ blends its frenetic savagery with an underlying wackiness to satisfying effect…With multiple listens bearing increasing rewards, Fallen Legion is a name to remember for anyone whose musical tastes teeter on the edge of sanity.” – Uber Rock

“Fallen Legion have proven their aggression, established their fluidity in the metal genres and now I just cannot wait to see how they progress as a band over the coming years.” – Overdrive Music Mag

John Milton wrote in Paradise Lost; “Let none admire/That Riches Grow in Hell; that soil may best deserve the precious bane…No light but rather only darkness visible/Served only to discover sights of woe.”

Oshawa, ON’s FALLEN LEGION have the potential to live up to Milton’s words and grow their own musical riches in the fertile soil of their own talent.

Since their formation in 2008, FALLEN LEGION have played with bands like Soilwork, Havok, Unearth, Battlecross and 36 Crazy Fists.

FALLEN LEGION have released two well-received demo EPs “Screams From The Dungeon” (2012), “Infinite Archive” (2015) and will be releasing an official EP entitled “Downfall” on May 18th, 2018.

Consisting of Nick Sauter on guitars, Jon Kal on bass, Josh Masterson on vocals and Dylan Waybrant on drums, FALLEN LEGION is inspired by an eclectic metal brigade of Gojira, Korn, Iron Maiden, Dethlok and Antonio Vivaldi for a sound best described as “energetic, unorthodox, progressive, spirited, and memorable”.

Their forthcoming EP is “the journey of a downfall. Going from stable to unbound and the choices that come with the calamity. The single embraces the human struggle and highlights the importance of hope. The EP is about dealing with stress- mortal blows, drugs, thoughts of suicide, the inner struggle, and the wrath of it all. The EP represents the outcome of painful experiences. Songs like ‘Escapegoat’ deal with not being able to handle the consequences of one’s actions and pushing them onto those weaker than yourself.”, and ‘Monster Reborn’-about letting the guilt build up inside, trapping one within their own mental anguish.”

“Downfall” will be available on May 18th, 2018 for download on all major online retailers along with pre-order on Bandcamp here.

Fun Fact:

The band explains the significance of  their name.

“The name is a reference to the first choir, which represents the first set of angels that fell to Satan. Fallen Legion is a derivative that we felt accommodated us better as a band. The name was generalized to include our fanbase. A Legion of growing fans.”

In Thrash We Trust could be the mantra of modern Thrashers Tymo, a band whose attitude lives up the title of their second and current full-length album. Entitled ‘Purge & Reset’, founding guitarist Tim Tymo explains the origin of a title that is more than words, it is a statement of metallic intent! “Let’s just say we have a creator or superior being. If this being gave us everything we needed to flourish humanely and returned to see all the wars and corruption…this being would want to wipe the slate clean and start over. Hence…PURGE AND RESET!”

Formed in Edmonton in 2015, Tymo released their debut album ‘The Lone Wolf” in March of the same year. The band are Tim Tymo on vocals/guitar, Nick Schwartz on guitar, Harlen Jacobs on bass, and Marc Durie on drums

Tymo came in fourth place in Wacken Metal Battle Canada and have opened for such bands as Mortillery, Ninjaspy, Mandriod Echostar, and Native Construct.

Inspired by Municipal Waste, Megadeth, Slayer, Bonded by Blood, and Metallica, Tim Tymo describes his band’s sound as “angry, loud, and explosive thrash!”

Tymo have a serious mission to entertain their fans. “We love writing and performing and all have a common love for thrash metal. We wanted to reference our heroes such as Megadeth, Municipal Waste and Metallica and mix up that inspiration with our own brew and see what we came up and here we are. We want to give people a source of inspiration and excitement!”

Live, Tymo have much common with their heroes Municipal Waste. “We like to look at our live shows as something to keep everyone entertained, such as having something unique happen during each song. We will have our mascot run out and mosh, cover ourselves in blood, just little changes throughout each song to keep the set memorable!”

Tymo’s latest album “Purge & Reset” was released on August 19, 2017 and is available on all major online retailers.

Tymo is:

With the world becoming a darker place by the day, we need more metal bands that deal in Realistic Escapism; that is escapism that draws from events in the real world (see Joseph Campbell’s seminal ‘Hero With A Thousand Faces’ for more) and helps the listeners cope heroically with their own daily battles. The aural equivalent of the work of George R.R. Martin!

Indeed, Alberta power-influenced progressive death metal band Valyria take their name from the works of the aforementioned Martin.

As the band explain. “Valyria is a ruined city in the world of Essos, the world in which George R.R. Martin’s ‘A Song of Fire and Ice’ takes place. Valyria is a city of wonderment, magic and untold power. The aesthetic Martin creates within his novels is a similar atmosphere to that we as a band try to conjure with our music.”

Influenced by Wintersun, The Faceless, Dragonforce, Blind Guardian and Omnium Gatherum, Valyria describes their sound as “dramatic, complex, uplifting, emotional, technical” something their fans will be able to hear on their new EP ‘Into the Dying of Time’, which features such soon-to-be-classics as ‘Steel Inquisition, ‘Tome of the Shattered Vessels’, ‘Of Sky and Sea’, ‘The Crossing’ and ‘Floating World’.

Valyria are stoked for their fans to hear their new album. “We have spent the better part of a year arranging and recording the music and it has been a very long but rewarding process. All four of us combined our influences and styles into something that we are truly proud of.”

Live, Valyria intend to transport their fans to another dimension. “We have an epic atmosphere that we hope will immerse the audience into the worlds that influence our lyrics…We hope our fans can escape from the chaos of everyday life and lose themselves within these musical stories and the feelings they represent.”

Valyria’s forthcoming EP “Into The Dying The Time” will be released on May 18, 2018. and available for pre-order on Bandcamp here.

Valyria is:

Jeremy Puffer- Guitar and Vocals

Cam Dakus- Bass and Lead Vocals

Andrew Traynor- Guitar and Vocals

“An epic, heavy and creative vibe to this album which I think would appeal to fans of mid period Dimmu Borgir, Insomnium, Abigail Williams, Fleshgod Apocalypse.” – Loud Stuff

“They produce an array of songs that have an incredible sound that are  magnificently orchestrated.” – Metal Temple

“Through Anathema Endemise demonstrates the ability to filter several European influences into a unique sound from a Canadian perspective.  It is a fine edition to the black metal catalogue of any connoisseur of these dark musical arts.” – Glacially Musical

“Endemise is yet another Canadian metal band that has managed to create something fucking awesome and special.” – The Dirty Room

“Black metal vocals, death metal riffs and hella lot of blastbeats. Endemise strikes with ‘Anathema’ and does so in an unrelenting manner. This extreme metal chaos will surely crush some norms settled upon by high culture tyrants.” – Lords of Metal

“Anathema is a promising outing for these Canadian natives.” – Metal Trenches

L-R- Alex Aksentyev – Bass / Dale Sauve – Guitar / Francesco Falsetto – Vocals / David Sauve – Drums / Graham Murphy – Guitar

Like a blackened metallic phoenix rising from the ashes of their previous band Endemise; Serene Dark intends to take their music to new heights.

The very name Serene Dark is a powerful statement of intent; in the words of guitarist Dale Suave “ours can be soothing and melodic at times, and dark and heavy at other times, so Serene Dark was a perfect fit.”

Morphing from Endemise to Serene Dark was a natural progression. “We have been making music with our current line-up for the past 7 years and decided a new name and fresh start was in order. Our former band Endemise formed over 12 years ago and it went through so many line-up changes and musical directions, we decided to put that band to rest and create Serene Dark as a fresh start.”

Inspired by Septicflesh, Behemoth, Watain, Dark Funeral and Dissection, Dale describes Serene Dark’s music as “dark, heavy, entrancing, emotional, orchestral.”

Dale has high aspirations for Serene Dark’s new music. “It will be received as a new but familiar sound for any previous fans of our last band…We want our fans to get lost in the music. We want to peak some interest in fans of this style of music…For the last six months all five members have been getting together and collaborating as a group. We have written a lot of songs and chosen our top ten favourites. Fans can expect a full-length album in fall 2018.”

The album has a strong concept behind it. “The concept of the album is the confrontation of repressing the shadow aspect of the personality and deals with the unconscious mind. The idea is have the lyrics for each song almost mirror the Divine Comedy as the main character is thrust deeper into his own psyche, like Dante’s ‘Descent Into Hell’”.
