New EP “Panacea” Out Sept 6, 2019

Devon Eggers and his solo project SURFACE OF THE SUN have announced a new single ‘Oblivion’ taken from the upcoming album “Panacea”, which will be released on September 6, 2019.
Since his first recording in 2011. Eggers has worked hard to make a more polished, detailed, and refined second effort and the result, “Panacea” definitely brings that aspiration alive with more elaborate song arrangements that still have the SURFACE OF THE SUN feel.
The EP consists of four songs, each providing a unique element and feel to the release. They all have their own character, but are complementary to each other. Eggers outlines the details in the single ‘Oblivion’:
“’Oblivion’ starts with a unique bass guitar riff, which is one of the few songs primarily written on the instrument. It’s a little lighter than the others and builds through a series of verses and breakdowns supplemented with Asian instruments until bursting into the first chorus. ‘Oblivion’ also has an elaborate bridge section with energy that ebbs and flows, before ramping up into an explosive ending.”
All vocals and music are written, performed and recorded by Devon Eggers except for the drums, which were performed and composed by Chris Warunki (Omnisight).
Heavy, creative and catchy, SURFACE OF THE SUN is appealing for all fans of progressive metal, especially those with an interest in Tool, Karnivool, and Chevelle.
Listen to ‘Oblivion’ via its premiere on Prog-Sphere.com at the following link: https://www.prog-sphere.com/specials/surface-of-the-sun-premiere/

Track Listing:
1. The Science Says (5:03)
2. Oblivion (5:22)
3. The Silence (6:16)
4. Panacea (8:52)
EP Length: 25:34
Bio:
Surface of the Sun is a one-man project spawned from the mind of Devon Eggers. Working on music over the years in the capacity of a recording engineer, he decided to complete a few of his musical ideas on his own. He manifests the subjects for the catchy and melodic songs, and then writes, performs and records all the instruments and vocals save for the drums. He does his own mixing but usually outsources the mastering and has two completed albums to date.Surface of the Sun is a listening experience that people can get lost in; it is dynamic with a rollercoaster of energy, melodies and heaviness. Each song stands out on its own while still complimenting the others.
Unrestricted by any other creative influence, Eggers can focus on his sole vision for progressive metal that he hopes will inspire others in some way, especially to think outside the box, to question, to be open, or to better themselves and others. While many of the lyrics may be aggressive and highlight an issue, Eggers usually writes in a way that focuses on correcting or improving whatever that problem may be.
In 2011, he released the debut full length ‘A Dying Star’ which is being followed up in 2019 with the EP ‘Panacea’ that will show further maturation and how Eggers has grown as an artist, writer, producer and engineer.

0 EXES FOR EYES Return With New Single ‘Hold On’ + Album “Of Strength and Sorrow” Out Aug 13th
(contact info below)
NEWS RELEASE
Montreal, QC – July 16, 2019
For fans of Soilwork, Lamb of God, At The Gates, Opeth
EXES FOR EYES Return With New Single ‘Hold On’ + Album “Of Strength and Sorrow” Out Aug 13th
Canada’s EXES FOR EYES, the musical vision of Dave Sheldon (ex. Man With Target, Annihilator) and the lyrical conception of vocalist and frontman Big James (Stab.Twist.Pull, Endast, Authors) have left their hiatus to bring you a new album “Of Strength and Sorrow” to follow their 2014 album “Tongues Like Figure Eights”. Having maintained a general theme of blindness, both figuratively and literally, the new album departs from those themes.
‘Hold On’ is the first single off this album and is an excellent introduction to the release that can simply be defined as “heavy as fuck”.
Having taken the last four years since their previous album, EXES FOR EYES have shown that they have matured sonically, completing an album that is darker without abandoning the soundscapes their fans have grown to love with their massive groove. Taking inspiration from composers such as John Williams, Danny Elfman, John Carpenter and Hans Zimmer they are new instrumental layers that add a definitive depth to the album. EXES FOR EYES comments on the writing process behind the massive 65-minute album:
“The writing process took so much out of us this album, so the idea of not releasing a song because ‘it doesn’t sound like the other ones’ didn’t even cross our minds. I feel like we knew we were going to release it ourselves on our terms again, so the idea of a 65-minute album didn’t seem outrageous. You’ll have your favourites the same way we have ours, but these are the songs and we want you to hear all of them. We meant every note and every word.”
Metal fans, especially those who follow Slipknot, Soilwork and Periphery can experience utter brutality and sheer beauty in lyrics that stem from a personal place coupled with heavy riffs and ferocious drumming found in the single ‘Hold On’, which is available for stream at the following link here.
The album download for “Of Strength and Sorrow” will be available for only $1 EXCLUSIVELY as of August 13, 2019, at www.ExesForEyes.com.
Track Listing:
1. Build, Work, Dream, Create (2:32)
2. Memories That Last (3:21)
3. The Metal (3:57)
4. Nothing Ever Satisfies (5:09)
5. The Fire Inside My Head (feat. Trey Xavier of In Virtue) (6:40)
6. Set It All On Fire (6:19)
7. The Savage Self (4:48)
8. I Miss My Friends (Too Many Of Them Are Dead) (6:26)
9. Hold On i. You Are Not Alone ii. Stronger Than This (8:33)
10. True Self Reckoning (3:11)
11. Love (feat. Pepe Poliquin of BornBroken) (3:56)
12. Get The Fuck Out Of My Head (3:24)
13. Methuselah (6:44)

BIO:
EXES FOR EYES is a project born of an overwhelming amount of mutual respect and admiration between two men. Respect for one another’s work ethic, musical proficiency, stylistic taste and of course, for each other as people.
The concept of blindness, be it willing, involuntary, inherent or otherwise is so foreign and far removed from anything within the realm of experience for these men. However as the process has begun to create this music, it has become apparent how limited one’s own vision can be when staring at the broad side of limitless potential and ambition.
With the musical vision of Dave Sheldon (ex-Man With Target, Annihilator) and the lyrical conception of vocalist and frontman Big James (Endast, Authors) the project is very quickly taking shape into something more than either anticipated. The hope is to see the world of metal in a new light, with EXES FOR EYES.

BIO:
Inspired by legendary pillars of heavy metal such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, The Scorpions, and Rush, Iron Kingdom is well known for their energetic and electrifying stage presence, as well as intricate musical melodies that bring listeners back to a time when the genre was in its prime.
Formed in Surrey, Canada, in June of 2011, Iron Kingdom’s intent was to fill the gap of bands that are heavy, but not extreme, melodic but not mainstream, technical but approachable. ‘Curse Of The Voodoo Queen’ was released on Dec 14, 2011, and the band took the opportunity to tour western Canada, along with an appearance on the CTV Show, Canada’s Got Talent (viewership of 1 million on that episode). With the debut album finishing its cycle, the group decided it was time to record a new album, and by April 26, 2013, ‘Gates Of Eternity’ was released. Garnering strong reviews and attention from around the world, Iron Kingdom was invited to perform at Germany’s Keep It True XVII festival.
Following this massive milestone, Iron Kingdom set out to pursue as many opportunities as they could spending some serious time on the road through Canada in 2013, Europe in 2014, followed by a tour in the USA with California’s Night Demon. The band had created some major momentum and Iron Kingdom were spreading their moniker far and wide in support of the first two releases.
On July 30, 2015, Iron Kingdom released not one but two more albums, ‘Ride For Glory’, their 3rd full-length album, as well as ‘Unleashed At The Kraken (Live In Seattle)’, an exclusive live E.P. recorded on a previous tour. The band set out on the road again in support of the two new releases. The tour was unfortunately riddled with many trials, including a vehicle accident that almost killed the band members. Life on the road continued, including a massive North American tour in 2016, as well as a tour in Brazil in a supporting slot for former frontman of Iron Maiden, Blaze Bayley.
As of 2019, with a new lineup and a new album ‘On The Hunt’ on its way, Iron Kingdom will once again be ready to take the world by storm and aid in the revival of the mighty and classic sounds of Traditional Heavy Metal.

“This is a tremendous throwback into the (first) golden age of metal.” – Merchants of Air (Belgium) (Ride For Glory Review 2015)
““Gates Of Eternity” could prove to be one of the most important discoveries in 2013 for U.S. Metal lovers.” – Rock Hard Magazine (Germany) (Gates of Eternity Review 2013)
“Sometimes you just want some glorious old school metal that makes you want to batter a dragon to death. Iron Kingdom are said band and from the opening track, At The Gates, I’m sold. When we reach Crowned In Iron we truly reach old school metal at its finest” – Sound the Charge (Scotland) (Gates of Eternity Review 2013)
“I want an Iron Kingdom/Voodoo Queen Baseball Tee so I can blast this album and try to sing along, banging my head and driving to the stadium in my Trans Am to drink cans of Bud in the parking lot before the Iron Kingdom show! I wish it was the 80’s right now.” – Metal Titans (Canada) (Curse of the Voodoo Queen Review 2011)

Since starting on their musical journey in 2015 from the ashes of a previous endeavour, JULIET RUIN has been working tirelessly to make a name for themselves in the Canadian music scene. Making their way across local stages and appearing at several Western Canadian festivals, JULIET RUIN are now finishing up their first full-length album “Old Stardust, Love and Chaos”. To introduce this work of art they are releasing the first single ‘Seasons’.
Since releasing their self titled EP in 2017, JULIET RUIN has been working hard to further cement their sound and create a brand that is all their own. They describe their new album as staying true to their roots while continuing to tinker with their sound:
“’Old Stardust, Love, and Chaos’ stays true to a lot of our root qualities in terms of catchy hooks and overall groove, but fans can expect a lot of new and even somewhat experimental things on the album as well. Lyrically speaking this album delves into a little bit deeper subject matter than the EP, focusing a lot on personal introspection and mental health, as well as general societal concerns from differing degrees of headspace; from optimism to apathy.”
The single is about the goddess of spring and hell in Greek mythology and serves as a nod to badass women everywhere. The music coming is laced with fury, reflection, and tears. JULIET RUIN expands of the meaning behind the single:
“Our first single off the album, ‘Seasons’, is a mainly clean-vocals, poetic retelling of Persephone and Hades in Greek mythology. ‘Seasons’ has an emotional vibe to it and celebrates the balance of powers within the spectrum of femininity, as well as the metaphorical ties between seasons and nature the mother.”
Fans of forward-thinking modern metal such as Evanescence, System of a Down, and Killswitch Engage should take special note of this powerful and emotive Canadian band.
The ten-track album “Old Stardust, Love, and Chaos” will be available on September 6, 2019.

“Juliet Ruin’s sound is comparable to a muddier version of Alexisonfire, with Fleming guiding the songs with her powerful voice while being backed up by Geislinger’s harsh screams and growls…. Juliet Ruin has been gaining more recognition after every concert with its single “Rogue Down” receiving a nomination at the Edmonton Music Awards.” – Vue Weekly (2017)
“Search no further than the Juliet Ruin playbook, it’ll teach you a thing or two. Their hard work and dedication are clearly paying off, and I predict that it won’t be too long until they become a commercial success. Yes, I’m willing to wager on it.” – Ravenkin Photography (2018)

NEWS RELEASE

Out Now! Kingston’s JIMBO EP “Where The Vultures Gather”
![]()
JIMBO, out of Kingston, Canada is here to deliver their sophomore EP entitled “Where The Vultures Gather”, which is now available as of July 12, 2019. Creating and performing rock music with dramatic artistic value that blurs between dark psychedelia, JIMBO draws inspiration from groovy fusion, hard rock, goth rock, and shoegaze. Their goal is to first and foremost be musicians and artists that are able to create an immersive musical experience that will have a lasting effect on their fans. The band aims to create rock music that pays respect to the past, acknowledges the future but makes the listener dissolve in the present. Fans of bands like Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains and grunge influences will sure to be happy to sink their teeth into “Where The Vultures Gather”.
The new EP sits on the line between hope and despair, taking a step away from the current status quo by embracing 90’s alternative rock that doesn’t make concessions for the everyday listener, but is rather geared for the underground. With lyrical content aimed at those who find themselves in a ‘me vs. the world’ mindset, JIMBO is ready to add ammunition to attack mode.
The band adds:
“The tracks on this EP were decided early on as they are our favourite songs to play live and ones that we see get the most audience response. ‘Mamawawa’ and ‘Where The Vultures Gather’ were made to be headbanging songs made to play loud with aggressive guitars and drums. ‘Pyrethrin’ maintains that heaviness, but demonstrates the progressive rock tendencies of the band. JIMBO’s main goal is to make artistic rock music. We find most other bands nowadays embrace the internet culture and fads. You probably won’t get that vibe from JIMBO. JIMBO is darker than most of the bands that are in the scene right now.”

“Let us introduce you to the budding Kingston, Ontario-based band, JIMBO. The group, who sell fiery and bluesy psychedelic rock ” – PureGrainAudio
“These three songs are quite interesting, especially if you love flashing guitar solos ” – Merchants of Air
““Where The Vultures Gather,” is a riff monster. With the drums beating down the listener’s skull it comes barrelling in, shifting and shaping the wind and blowing everything away with grace and power.” – The Median Man
“a great mix of alternative rock, dark psych and a drop of acid blues ” – Hard Rock Heavy Metal
“Jimbo is a solid band name and I was excited to have a listen to this psych-rock band from Kingston. “Thunderbird” opens their debut EP with a thumping pace before the guitars kick in with a classic blues driven lick. It’s a nice mix of 70’s hard rock and 90’s stoner tunes. There’s also a real face melter of a solo in this track as well. Grab this EP when ya got 15 minutes available to rock out.” – Kris Gies, Deli Magazine
