The record combines the furious elements of death metal with the symphonic prowess of black metal, creating the perfect synthesis of both genres and ultimately
NECRONOMICON have a well-earned reputation for quality by releasing material only when ready and satisfied with the outcome ever since their demo entitled ‘Morbid Ritual’ (1992) firmly established their name within the underground. ‘The Silver Key’ EP (1996) led to mainstream recognition on a national level, but their debut album ‘Pharaoh Of Gods’ (1999) and the sophomore ‘The Sacred Medicines’ (2003) did, even more, to establish the band as a household name in Canada.
‘Return Of The Witch’ (2010) marked the international break-through for NECRONOMICON, and saw them performing at prestigious festivals such as Inferno (Norway), Ragnarok (Germany), and the Barge To Hell metal cruise among others, while sharing stages with acts such as CRADLE OF FILTH, DIMMU BORGIR, BEHEMOTH, and MORBID ANGEL, to name but a few. Their steady advance around the globe grew considerably in impact by their next full-length “Rise Of The Elder Ones” (2013). By the time the band released ‘Advent Of The Human God’ (2016), they were met with international critical acclaim. Now, with ‘UNUS’ the band show that they aren’t slowing down and are ready to deliver another vicious strike! Prepare for the darkness to envelop you…

“Best moments of BEHEMOTH and symphonic death à la GODFLESH APOCALYPSE while remaining entirely Necronomicon.” – Bravewords
“Advent of the Human God is a truly diverse album, perfectly balancing plenty of atmosphere with their iconic chugging riffs and pummelling blast beats.” – Exclaim!
“Advent of the Human God boasts both a Behemoth-like epic savage grace and Dimmu-esque orchestral pomp. But it also delivers a more primal ferocity and maintains the thematic air that has become Necronomicon’s forte” – Metal Rules
“”Their sound is akin to an Anti-Christ infant spawned from the blasphemous union of Dimmu Borgir and Behemoth.”” – Metal Underground
“The drums crash like Nordic avalanches on tracks like “Alchemy of the Avatar.” With its blazing jugular seeking guitar riffs and crazed piano breaks over top double kick drum insanity, this last song makes for a perfect ending to a blistering listen.” – Beatroute (AB)
“‘Necronomicon opened the show with a thoroughly impressive display of symphonic death metal… The best way to describe them would be a symphonic version of Winds of Creation-era Decapitated, with perhaps some Vital Remains mixed in. Lots of cool grooves and hair spinning moments!’” – Metal Injection (Live Review)

Wacken Metal Battle Canada Champions Proggers THE SLYDE New Music Video ‘These Wars’

L-R: Nathan Da Silva (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Sarah Westbrook (Keyboards, Samples), Andrew Suarez (Drums), Alberto Campuzano (Bass, Backup Vocals)
Winners of the 2019 Wacken Metal Battle Canada competition, Toronto’s melodic proggers THE SLYDE have released a video for the track ‘These Wars’, one of the highlights from their latest album ‘Awakening’.
The ‘no-budget video’ was filmed in the Toronto region and is a no-frills visual accompaniment to the first single off the band’s second full-length album that was released at the end of 2018. The band shares the video’s concept:
“We had a lot of fun shooting the video for These Wars. We went mostly for a straight-up, rockin’ out, daytime shoot, as we wanted to show what it’s like to see us live in concert. The song comments on the impact that cell phones have made on society, and I think the silly shots convey that nicely and compliment the performance shots.
‘Awakening’ is an audio masterpiece harnessing the intricate, contrapuntal prog metal they’ve honed over the last decade. Described by critics as “a highly impressive, thunderously powerful, thought-provoking collection of songs” and “vigorous and passionate”, THE SLYDE carve their own path and take no prisoners.
Watch ‘These Wars’ here.
In additional news, THE SLYDE will be performing on August 2nd at Wacken Open Air in Germany, a festival with an attendance of over 80,000. The band is performing at the festival after winning the 2019 Wacken Metal Battle Canada competition and being selected to represent their home country at the Wacken Metal Battle international final.
After their Wacken Open Air performance the band will be returning to Canada for their ’10 Years And Counting Tour’ to celebrate their 10 years of performing and recording their melodic prog rock since first forming in Ottawa, ON in 2009 to later re-locate permanently to Toronto, ON (dates listed below). During their 10 year career, THE SLYDE has recorded and released two albums ‘Awakening’ (2018) and ‘Feed The Machine’ (2011) along with four EPS, ‘Back Again’ (2017), ‘New World Sympathy’ (2012), ‘The Slyde II’ (2010) and ‘The Slyde I’ (2009). The band has also played nearly 200 shows on the Eastern Canadian circuit, sharing the stage with such bands as Protest The Hero, Down With Webster, Angra, Pain of Salvation, F*ck The Facts, Dana Fuchs, and Timber Timbre among others, and have made past appearances at Ottawa Bluesfest, Canadian Music Week, IndieWeek, and Cornwall Lift-Off.
The band adds:
“We are pleased that we made it 10 years doing what we love to do. And it couldn’t be better, in terms of timing, that we are chosen as the Canadian reps for the Wacken Metal Battle international final – which we are beyond stoked for. For the tour, we’ll be doing some songs we haven’t played in years, and we hope to see some longtime fans in attendance. And after the tour, we’ll be hitting the studio to release something special for our 10 year anniversary, so look out for that come Christmas time. Here’s to another 10 years!”
THE SLYDE is driven by Nathan Da Silva’s elegant vocals and passionate guitar work, Sarah Westbrook’s powering keyboard skills, and the powerful rhythm section of bassist Alberto Campuzano and drummer Andrew Suarez (with long-time drummer/songwriter Brendan Soares), the band are to catch the ears of any technically minded melodic prog rock and metal fans of bands such as Rush, Dream Theater, Haken, Coheed and Cambria, and Megadeth.
