This past March, Montreal’s Your Last Wish performed at Quebec City’s Le FestEvil, a festival celebrating women in metal and created to coincide with International Women’s Day. The goal of the festival was to highlight the great contribution and need for more presence of women in the Quebec metal scene. Le FestEvil was founded by the Canadian death metal band The Flaying guitarist Didier Samson and co-produced by Rope Dancer Productions and District 7 Production.

During their set at Le FestEvil, Your Last Wish captured live video of their track ‘Pandore’ with guest vocals from The Flaying‘s William Murray. The video can be viewed HERE.

The studio version of the song is on the band’s new album “Eradicate” released this past February and is a tribal prog duet that features Simon Girard of Beyond Creation. Listen HERE.

With roots in classic death and thrash metal, the melodic death metallers are darker, heavier and have matured in their sound. Their new concept album “Eradicate” beautifully exploits post-apocalyptic themes. It is a bilingual album with songs in both English and French along with being composed and recorded entirely by guitarist David Gagné, while all lyrics were written by vocalist Roxana Bouchard.

Friend and fan of the band Dan Mongrain of Voivod had this to say about the band:

”Your Last Wish’s new Album “Eradicate” will take you on an epic journey through extremely powerful musical landscapes that will transform your mind and emotions forever. That’s what quality art is for, and that’s what they do!”

For fans of old school Arch Enemy, Soilwork, and Black Dahlia Murder, “Eradicate” is available for stream and download on Bandcamp.com, Spotify, Apple Music.

RivetSkull is an echo from the birth of heavy metal. A reflection of a magical moment in time when heavy metal first appeared in the 70’s and 80’s. Evolution of the genre? Not happening here. This is the Jurassic Park of heavy metal, the regrowth of that same DNA that created the beasts of metal that first roamed this planet.

What you will find is heavy, melodic and riff laden music with clear and strong vocals. There is a strong groove with prominent bass lines and tight fitting guitar riffs. The singing will take you back to a day when skill, melody, power and style mattered. All of this brought to you by a dedicated and hard working band of brothers.

Their debut album “Trail of Souls” was released February 7, 2020.

“Featuring tight, groovy riffage and a bright melodic backdrop, “Nomads” is a great introduction to what Held In Secret are doing. With prominent shows already played with the likes of Blind Witness, Held In Secret’s sophomore EP is bound to be a success.” – New Fury Media

Held In Secret was impulsively founded in January of 2016 by Matt J. Zephyr (vocals) and David Lamothe (lead guitar) with the explicit goal of taking over the world. Since then, they have been joined by a great family of like-minded people with the addition of William Gunn (bass), Tommy Lemieux (drums) and Joey Sollazzo (rhythm guitar).

These five individuals work hard every day to create the heaviest and Djentiest listening experience known to the Ottawa metal scene. Wanting the listeners to feel like they are understood, the lyrics from Held In Secret paint pictures of trauma, despair, and hope.

On December 7th, 2018, Held In Secret released their debut EP “Dawnbreaker” (Produced by Dark Moon Productions). After a year of performances, our protagonists came together in the studio once again to produce their sophomore effort called “Nomads” set for release on May 29, 2020.

Taking pride in what they do, Held in Secret ensures a wild ride for their audience as Zephyr climbs structures while scream-rapping extra multisyllabic lines; Lamothe, Gunn, and Sollazzo sing backup while shredding, jumping around and headbanging; often jumping off stage to get in the pit. The intense stage presence continues with Lemieux banging it out, full throttle behind the kit.

Held In Secret is just warming up, they have more live shows planned, as well as more music has been written ready to follow “Nomads”. Keep an ear out!

Die Another Day is one of Calgary, Canada’s freshest bands. Conceived in the spring of 2019 with a variety of influences, the quartet expands into multiple genres, getting fans excited to embrace different styles of music. Previously releasing their first single and title track off their forthcoming debut EP “Wild Fire” due out on April 10, 2020, the quintet is now ready to unleash the next single entitled ‘Fear The Future’, coincidentally timed with the current global situation of Covid 19.

Watch the video for ‘Fear The Future’ via its exclusive premiere on NewFuryMedia HERE.

The band adds:

“Very aggressive, and hard-hitting from start to finish, the style of chords that were chosen in the verse of the track really express the struggle that we talk about in the lyrics, whereas the more resolved sound and feeling through the chorus really ties it together perfectly. We think we definitely put Jared our vocalist through hell the first week or so of him having to both learn the words as well as learn how to get enough air to scream them at the same time.”

Die Another Day brings a high energy stage show that’s guaranteed to get people off their feet and moving along to the music. From making the crowd become a part of the songs they perform, to diving right in and making themselves a part of the action that’s taking place within the audience, the band isn’t afraid of giving every ounce energy to have a good time with every person in the room.

That vitality and passion are showcased in their new EP ‘Wildfire’ that fans of melodic, heavy, upbeat bangers in the vein of metalcore and pop-punk will enjoy and have no issues putting Die Another Day on repeat.

Bassist Tyler Johansen further explains the EP:

“We wanted to share with the world our more aggressive hard-hitting side of our music. This is an EP that means the world to us as it touches on so many personal notes as well as being our first full outing as a band so we really wanted to come out swinging with this one. It’s exciting to bring more than a single out to share with everyone; we cannot wait to show you all what months of practicing, writing, and recording is going to look and sound like.”

1. Ignite The Flame (1:19)
2. Wildfire (3:16)

One of Toronto’s favourite ambient progressive metal/rock duo Jupiter Hollow will be releasing their new album “Bereavement” on June 12th, 2020 to follow their two highly praised recordings “AHDOMN” (2018) and “Odyssey” (2016).

Teaming up with Prog Magazine, the band is premiering the album’s first single ‘The Rosedale’ HERE.

“Bereavement” is the continuation of the storyline from both previous releases. The band further explains:

“A man with unimaginable global power sends important members of his family and society away to a habitable world outside of our solar system in order to salvage humanity. As capable as this man is of salvaging humanity’s dying society on Earth, he finds more solace in the greed and power he has inherited. Victim of his lifelong internal battle with mental instability, he leaves humanity to extinction on Earth. Struggling with this outcome, he sends himself and his ship aimlessly into space, attempts suicide and crashes on a planet in another solar system. Upon awakening, he realizes where he is, and that he will soon meet the remaining faces that have abandoned him, just as he abandoned them, and they’re hungry.”

The duo of Grant MacKenzie (Guitar, Bass, Synth) and Kenny Parry (Vocals, Drums, Piano, Synth) that form Jupiter Hollow are here to create an artistic experience unlike anything else in the industry. Inspired from the art of storytelling and adventure, they intend on taking you through an in-depth journey through their discography and encourage listeners to join them for every step along the way. Get ready as Jupiter Hollow will take you on a musical tour, from the studio to the stage, and every place in between. About:

We are Jupiter Hollow. Some people consider us to be alternative metal, some people consider us to be progressive rock, and some people just like what they hear. We don’t believe in genre; we believe genre is an excuse to pigeonhole our sound. For us, we prefer to keep our options open.

When you hear Jupiter Hollow you may feel an overwhelming sense of space, arrangement and instrumentation. However, behind the music there are just 2 humans: Kenny Parry and Grant MacKenzie. We met on Earth in the year of 2015 at a musical gathering, where the universe inevitably conceived Jupiter Hollow. Since then, we’ve expressed part one of a conceptual endeavor called “AHDOMN”. This story is to be continued with the release of our new record “Bereavement” on June 12, 2020.

As for what Jupiter Hollow sounds like, that’s for you to determine. We don’t care what we sound like, since we don’t have control over our destiny. Our path is written, but we must walk it. Therefore, the music has already been created in the future, and we are messengers of the present.

We are from Earth, from your future. Moving forward through time is to move forward through space. We are evolutionary descendants of our past, we evolve from our actions. Jupiter Hollow is here to share the missing link of your human existence.

“If Jupiter Hollow are emblematic of the next generation of progressive metal bands, a bright tomorrow lies ahead. Hugely impressive.” - Prog Magazine.

“Without a doubt, Jupiter Hollow are elite musicians. Grant and Kenny know exactly how to captivate an audience with their music.” – Alex CrazyAce, Host/Executive Producer of ‘The Rush’ on VIBE105 FM

“When a prog duo emerges with as much talent as Jupiter Hollow you are entitled to feel excited about the future.” – Maximum Volume Music

“New listeners can expect to go on a musical journey when hearing Jupiter Hollow.” – Barrie Advance

0 THE RETICENT Releases Dark Somber Cover of Metallica’s “Fade To Black”; New Album “The Oubliette” Coming 2020 via Heaven & Hell Records

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – April 3, 2020

For fans of Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Katatonia, The Contortionist, King Crimson

THE RETICENT Releases Dark Somber Cover of Metallica’s “Fade To Black”

New Album “The Oubliette” Coming 2020 via Heaven & Hell Records

The Reticent has a new single out, a cover of Metallica’s classic “Fade To Black”, which will be featured on the progressive metal band’s forthcoming album “The Oubliette”  produced by Jamie King (BTBAM, The Contortionist, etc.) and due out later this year via Heaven & Hell Records.

The already somber tune is matched up with an equally solemn black and white video. Chris Hathcock, the founder of the band, who performed all main instruments and vocals on the track, goes into depth about choosing the cover:

“The original is a timeless classic, but in listening to it I thought that perhaps the sadness of the words were somewhat attenuated by the catchy and driving riffs. It thematically fell right in line with the over concept of “The Oubliette” as that blanket of loneliness and despair can fall over the suicidal and Alzheimer’s patients alike. I decided to reduce the instrumentation as much as possible to increase that sense of isolation and only used effects to increase the atmosphere. Minimalist and empty sounding like a hospital room.  The result hopefully draws more attention to the stark hopelessness in the lyrics. The distance and atmosphere in the track are meant to feel not just isolated, but almost ghostly – as if we are hearing the baleful thoughts of a man void of hope trapped in a hospital bed.”

The Reticent began as an almost exclusively melancholy acoustic project for Hathcock. As time has gone on, the sound of the band got heavier and more diverse. The progressive nature of the band’s most recent offerings now encompasses such a wide scope that one can’t listen to a single song and know the band’s sound.

Recommended for fans of Opeth, Porcupine Tree, and Katatonia; “The Oubliette” will be the fifth album in The Reticent’s discography and is expected out in 2020 as the release date is TBA.

About:

The Reticent are an NC outfit that Hard Rock Haven put it, “progressive in the truest sense of the term”.  Beginning as an atmospheric acoustic side project for mastermind Chris Hathcock while he toured with war-metallers Wehrwolfe, The Reticent has become a fully realized emotional experience rooted in progressive rock and metal. This is epitomized in the band’s critically acclaimed latest release on Heaven & Hell Records, “On The Eve Of A Goodbye”, produced by Jamie King (BTBAM, The Contortionist, Scale the Summit) – a tragic autobiographical concept record that chronicles the day before, day of, and day after the suicide of Hathcock’s childhood friend Eve.

Critics and fans of the record alike have been moved by the compelling narrative and heartrending performances. The Reticent has gone even further in their live performances to create an audiovisual emotional experience unlike any other by utilizing film, story-telling, and the sheer intensity of the music. Such unique and evocative performances have earned The Reticent a reputation throughout the east as a stellar live show – taking in awards for their live performances from magazines like YES! Weekly. This intense live experience is achieved thanks to the incredible talents of The Reticent’s other members: James Nelson (Ozai), Cliff Stankiewicz (Abacab, Interstellar Overdrive), and Mitch Moore (Rites to Sedition, Inferion).

As of 2019, Hathcock has begun preparing The Reticent for a new concept album and all new stage shows. The forthcoming album (again produced by Jamie King), “The Oubliette” is another stirring autobiographical tale, this time of the tragedy of Alzheimer’s disease. Fans and critics alike are eager to sink their teeth into another intense emotional outpouring of progressive metal as The Reticent prepares to release new music and strike back out on the road.
