BornBroken was formed with one simple mission in mind: Help the masses find a voice, a face, an “X” that marks the spot through the sounds of beating skins, metal strings and broken chords.
After months of writing and hours spent in the studio, BornBroken managed to take every emotion they felt, put it to music, build off of past battle scars and create a record where listeners will feel they are part of the storyline.
On their debut album, The Healing Powers of Hate, which is unleashed today, June 4th, BornBroken play out not only what life has given them but also what they want to give back: truth, integrity, perseverance, loyalty and faith in humanity’s struggle for equality.

The world’s most prestigious metal festival, Wacken Open Air, known for its elite line up of the globe’s best metal bands is bringing the largest metal contest on the planet Wacken Metal Battle to Canada. Recruiting 39 independent Canadian bands after hundreds of submissions to compete, Wacken Metal Battle Canada will select one true champion to represent the nation with highest honour at this summer’s 2013 edition of Wacken Open Air Festival in Wacken, Germany.
Being held in Toronto, ON and Montreal, QC during the months of May and June, Canadian metal bands from across the country will challenge one another to join a list of Canadian heavyweights such as Voivod, Exciter, Razor, Annihilator, Anvil, Kataklysm, Cryptopsy, 3 Inches of Bloods, Despised Icon and Danko Jones who have performed at the festival in years past.

A five piece group based out of Vernon, British Columbia, Canada, following in the footsteps of bands such as: Behemoth, Dissection, and Immortal, XUL have left the beaten path and set out to forge their own brand of Blackened Death Metal.
An energetic and interactive live performance – with crushing rhythms seamlessly coalescing into atmospheric passages, accompanied by punishing percussion waves and subtle vocal harmonies – expands upon the previously established essence of the sub-genre. With songs reminiscent of war-torn landscapes, destructive human nature and evil intent, XUL has captivated audiences and garnered positive reviews, and on June 16, 2012, released their first full length album, entitled “Malignance”.

Wacken Metal Battle Canada is proud to announce that Hollow (Montreal qualifying) and Crimson Shadows (Toronto semi-final) have advanced from their battling rounds.Hollow will perform at next week’s Montreal semi-final on June 7th at Katacombeswith Dissension, Trainwreck Architect, Fallstaf, & Crosstitution, where two bands will move on to join Crimson Shadows at the national final in Toronto on June 22nd at the Opera House.
The final will see two Toronto semi-finalists and two Montreal semi-finalists along with a wild card band compete for one to rule them all at Wacken 2013 this summer.
The next semi-final in Toronto will be on June 7th at the Rivoli along with the Montreal semi-final on June 7th at Katacombes . All bands will be judged by a panel of local music industry representatives.

In additional news, Toronto’s skrap metal innovators FINAL TRIGGER have been announced as the special guest band to perform at this year’s Wacken Metal Battle Canada final. In celebration of the new album from Alice In Chains, heavy melodic rockers BREACHED have released an acoustic version of ‘No Excuses’, which can be heard on their newest EP ‘Revolution Sessions’, the follow up to their 2011 self titled EP.
