Psychostick Launch Indiegogo Fan Funding Campaign; Premiere New Music Video ‘Obey The Beard’ + Free Song Download To Donors

Campaign Donors Receive Free Download of ‘Obey The Beard’

L-R – Alex “Shmalex” Dontre – Drums | Josh “The J” Key – Guitar | Rob “Rawrb” Kersey – Vocals | Matty J “Moose” – Bass

Comedy rockers Psychostick have launched a fan funding campaign to raise money to record a new album and complete construction on their recording studio.  The campaign, which is taking place at Indiegogo.com is now live and will run till December 5th.  (Go towww.indiegogo.com/projects/new-psychostick-album-and-recording-studio/x/4100572.)

As part of the kick-off, the band is premiering a video for their brand new song, “Obey The Beard” on the IndieGoGo campaign page, which is linked after viewing the promo video.  Fans who contribute to the fund raising efforts will score a free MP3 of the song and other cool stuff for helping the band finance their next album and the completion of their recording studio.

Says Psychostick guitarist Josh Key:  “This fundraiser is not just for a new album, but so much more! We’re building a sweet studio; we want to put out new music and videos on a regular basis, so that fans don’t have to wait through long dry spells between albums to hear something new from us. This fundraiser will enable us to make that happen.”  Vocalist Rob Kersey concurs, saying, “Having our own studio and the ability to record songs right away will be a huge dream come true for us. We literally have around a hundred or so song ideas that often get put on the back burner, but with this sweet setup we can finally become that recording machine we’ve always wanted to be. This fundraiser along with our amazing fans can help us fuel this machine for more brutal laughs in the years to come.”

Psychostick also plans to release several promotional videos during the course of the Indiegogo campaign, and contributors will also be privy to additional private videos once the album recording process gets underway.  Like other fan funding efforts, Psychostick is planning a number of incentive tiers as part of the campaign.  Among the items being offered are things such as:  a signed CD, custom ringtone recorded by the band, exclusive t-shirt, custom kick drum head, guest list for life, cameo in a Psychostick video, and everything and the (literal) kitchen sink.

Usually touring ninja warriors, the band, just off of their “Blow Your Fingers Off” summer tour and their late summer dates with American Head Charge, will be sticking close to home as work on the new album kicks off.  Tour stops over the summer also included Rockapalooza, A2 Fest, Breast Fest Biker Bash, and Dirtfest.  In July, they released their latest music video for the song “Sadface Emoticon” (http://youtu.be/ZsqZl3VqoM4), and which followed their video for “Dogs Like Socks,” which was released earlier this year (http://youtu.be/swmuqGWgZCc).

Harnessing their crazy sense of humor and love of all things metal, vocalist Rob “Rawrb” Kersey and guitarist Josh “The J” Key joined forces with drummer Alex “Shmalex” Dontre and bassist  Matty J “Moose” to create Pyschostick, a band they’ve coined as humorcore. With hilarious lyrics, heavy riffs, notorious stage antics and high-energy performances, the band has caused millions of laughs around the world and hundreds of mosh pits across the US, often simultaneously, since its birth in Phoenix, AZ in 2000.

Almost 100 percent do-it-yourself, Psychostick never strays from its signature sound, a combination of heavy music that Chimaira, Machine Head, and Hatebreed would be proud of, and wit and humor that would make Tenacious D and Weird Al Yankovic holler with laughter.

With three full-length albums behind them – “We Couldn’t Think of a Title,” “Sandwich,” and their holiday album, “The Flesh Eating Rollerskate Holiday Joyride” – the band released their latest record, “Space Vampires vs. Zombie Dinosaurs in 3D,” in 2011, following it up with a tour with Mushroomhead to add to their total count of 21 nationwide tours that have hit 47 states.

UnderTheGunReview.net has teamed up with Edmonton, AB hardcore metal band Lucid Skies for the premiere of their new track ‘Shotgun Mouthwash’ at the following link here. The song is from their forthcoming EP ‘Hounds’ set for release onNovember 26th, which will be supported by a Western Canadian tour w/ Bonfire.

“We couldn’t be more excited to announce the release of our new EP and our Western Canadian tour with our good friends Bonfire. We put a lot of effort into this EP and can’t wait to get it out there to the provinces we haven’t had the pleasure of touring yet.” comments guitarist Jesse Berger.

‘Hounds’, is a four track EP fusing classic hardcore with infectious melodies, that the band demonstrates in their on stage aggression and banter, which they invite the crowd to become a part of.

Their enticing vocals combined with melodic riffs allude to metal godfathers; Hatebreed (lyrically, vocally, and melodically) while sticking to their hardcore influences (Comeback Kid, Holly Springs Disaster). Instrumentally, Lucid Skies draws from d-beats, breakbeats, and breakdowns. Their EP ‘Hounds’ is peppered with chugging bass lines and complimented by rhythmic guitar arrangements.

Their origin of Lucid Skies is simple: Jesse Berger kick-started the process for collecting members and establishing a sound for the band in Edmonton in 2009. Soon after, Berger recruited Nick Ogden to enhance the overall aggression and build their signature sound. Many of the members would frequent Avenue Theatre (formerly Avenue Skatepark) and attend local and touring hardcore and metalcore shows. It seemed it was only a matter of time before Sam Jackson (Bass), was bullied by the band to join, and soon followed after by Justin Smith (drums) as the final member for Lucid Skies.

Blank-Fest is an annual benefit concert, usually held one-to-two weeks before Christmas, which raises blankets for the homeless. It was founded in 1997 in Nyack, NY (a suburb approximately 20 miles outside of New York City) by Kenn Rowell who is the frontman for the NYC-based band, The Baghdaddios.

Rowell, in previous interviews detailed how he had always wanted to do “something charitable” on Christmas Eve. Among the many things he considered were keeping the disabled father of an old neighborhood friend company, singing in the children’s ward of a hospital and collecting blankets from friends to dispense amongst New York City’s homeless on Christmas Eve. Doing just that, for the first time in 1996, he enjoyed the experience so much that he decided to do the same thing again, next year. It was at that time that his friends told him that they had no more blankets to donate saying that Rowell had “cleaned them out” from the previous year.

Since inception, over 15 years ago, Rowell estimates that Blank-Fest has collected over 10,000 total donations for the homeless. For the original flagship show out of Nyack, with the exception of one year (2001) donations in every year has increased. Much of this growth can be attributed to increased exposure through local radio, the internet and the press, including featured articles in the New York Daily Newsand mentions in the New York Post.[1] In addition there have been satellite shows that have been formed in other states, cities and countries. So numerous have donations been in recent years that volunteers have had to split the distribution/delivery of blankets to the less fortunate on multiple nights, starting on Christmas Eve. Often excess donations are distributed to homeless shelters as well.

MCed by Rowell’s long-time band, The Baghdaddios, the first Blank-Fest only featured a handful of local, Hudson Valley area-based groups including international touring act Joe D’Urso & Stone Caravan, The Wheel and future Bruxelles part-owner Debruyn who performed as a solo artist. While always priding itself on featuring local independent, or “homegrown” music acts, in addition the benefit has attracted likewise talented songwiters and bands which boast an impressive list of major recording label ties and a solid reputation for touring and recording including EMI artist Patti Rothberg, pedal steel guitar greatBuddy Cage, former Misfits guitarist and founder of The Undead, Bobby Steele, Soulfly lead guitarist Marc Rizzo, Sirius Radio personality Meg Griffin, international jazz oomposer Mike McGinnis and the founder of the Anti-folk school of music, Lach.

Efforts to duplicate the successes of the early Nyack shows proved elusive at best until New Jersey-based independent artist activist, Richard Kubicz read about Blank-Fest’s efforts in the Daily News and proposed a “sister show” at a local club in Garwood, NJ. The first Blank-Fest-NJ, promoted extensively through Kubicz’s D.I.Y. music website Let’s Rock America [1] was a resounding success, netting 200 blankets which were donated directly to a neighboring homeless shelter in Cranford and garnered notice in the Bergen County press in 2006. Last year’s second annual Jersey show produced similar results. Similarly, Blank-Fest UK [2] was founded in Nottingham, England after a local recording studio owner heard an interview with The Baghdaddios on the British Armed Forces Radio Network, BFBS Radio One during the group’s Summer 2007 tour of England. Upon hearing about both the American and UK efforts Ontario-based photographer Gaynor Fletcher approached Rowell regarding the formation of a Blank-Fest Canada show. Also, debuting in 2007, in Guelph, ON, the inaugural Canadian event featured popular Canadian folk artist James Gordon and was covered extensively by the Canadian media,[2] raising well over 100 blankets.

In addition to these shows former Baghdaddios bassist, John Sidoti joined forces with local internet radio personality Ron Purtee to develop the first-ever Blank-Fest Wisconsin,[3] also in 2007, in theMilwaukee-area suburb of Racine.

Currently, there are 8 Blank-Fest shows serving 7 major metropolitan areas in three countries. In addition to those mentioned previously, 2008 has seen the addition of three additional shows: Blank-Fest Florida, which is hosted in Northern Florida (Lake City, near Gainesville, FL) and Blank-Fest VA, which is hosted in Richmond, VA (see links below).

In addition, promoters in Bridgeport, CT as well as Calgary and Ottawa, Canada have begun work for premiere Blank-Fest shows in December 2009. The first Blank-Fest Quebec (which was also the first “post-Holiday Season” Blank-Fest show) which took place on Saturday evening, February 21, 2009, garnered approximately 503 total donations.[4]

Currently plans are in development to expand Blank-Fest even further. There has been talk of shows in Texas, Northeast Pennsylvania, Ohio and Atlanta, GA. Several additional popular artists have been approached regarding future such shows. Quoted in a newspaper interview in 2000, Rowell maintained that “as long as there is the issue of homelessness we will continue to have a Blank-Fest”, further adding that he wishes “we didn’t have to hold these shows” but that, until the situation dramatically improves, everyone involved understands that they really have no other choice.

Hiring a hit man can sometimes to be seen as a means to an end, but not for Montreal, QC metallers Fallstaf. With their aggressive tendencies and energetic approach to lay it all out in the mosh pit, these brawlers realized that hiring a hit man with a trombone is the means to fuel the fire and only the beginning of what has become.
Forming their own new genre dubbed “Brass Metal”, out of their other more soften music collective North East Bistro. Fallstaf is the angry brother who has melange the trombone assassinations of the hit man with their brand of aggressive / heavy hitting metal that ranges in influences from heavy rock, thrash and hardcore. Expressing their darkest moments from their corner of the world with a creative metal soundscape, Fallstaf released their debut full length  “Bastard Sons of a Pure Breed” on October 25, 2011 to add a new sound to the metal family tree.
The 11 track album of fury is the follow up to Fallstaf’s 2009 EP “The Hitman Plays Trombone” and was self produced by Fallstaf, and mixed and mastered by Kevin Jardine (Slaves on Dope) of Uplift Studios.

Music Video: Chuck Norris – http://youtu.be/5sKW59AgKQk

It’s March of ‘06. The world is asleep. Everything is still. No one is aware that a massive shift in the planet’s tectonic plates has given birth to a juggernaut. Fate has set three individuals on a collision course, their union shaking the very foundations of reality and sound.

Rising out of Montreal’s bubbling metal underground, it can be said that Unbeing have been through it all. Starting out as a three-piece, members came and went, two demos were released to an overwhelmingly positive response, the band won Metal Académie 2 – a two-month-long competition where the band impressed both the audience and esteemed metal judges such as Kataklysm to take home top honors – then decided to shake things up again. Taking the judges’ advice to heart, Unbeing opted to no longer continue sacrificing their creative liberties, removing vocals all-together to finally discovered its true nature in the form of a five-piece ProgEpic InstruMetal band.

But alas, five years after the birthing cries of Unbeing tore holes in the fabric of space and time, individually and as a whole, they have overcome hardships, laughed in the face of danger and stomped on the charred corpse of impossibility. In 2011, the band released its debut full-length album before solidifying its name in the metal community as a five-piece outfit.

Their album spanning 40 minutes of instrumental offerings that screams: There is no turning back, there is no mercy, there is only Unbeing is now set for re-release this September 2013 on vinyl, re-mixed and re-mastered , ready to be received again as a testimony to the group’s composing capabilities.

Album Stream – Of Time And Chronic Disease – http://dissensionofficial.bandcamp.com/album/of-time-and-chronic-disease-2

What started out as Set to Kill in 2007 soon turned into a whole different beast, evolving and shedding its moniker to adopt one that was much more appropriate – Dissension.

Trying to define a style that would set them apart, the Montreal quintet arrived at a truly unique and extra eclectic mix of thrash, black and power metal – a sound that soon got people paying attention. Playing with international heavyweights like Tyr, Threat Signal and Cryptopsy, Dissension debuted on the prestigious Heavy MTL stage in 2011 and made it to the finals of the Wacken Battle Canada this year.

Of Time And Chronic Disease is the band’s first studio album, produced by Kevin Jardine of Uplift Productions, (Slaves on Dope, What Comes To Life, One) and mastered by Ryan Morey (Arcade Fire, Priestess, Half Moon Run), and attacks the darker side of human nature, reaching epic heights and somber depths.

The record, which will be released digitally worldwide on September 10 through Believe Digital, is what all Dissension fans have been waiting for and what all metal fans should listen to.
