“Where Giants Once Stood deliver fully on this energy packed EP but atop that, it is the band’s musical wit that makes Live Above an EP that stands out among others in the genre. Where Giants Once Stood is definitely a band to keep your eye on.” – We Love Metal

“Whether the Live Above EP is your introduction to Where Giants Once Stood or the next instalment on the journey already embraced, it thrusts the band to a new dramatic and impressive status within metal. Canada’s creative sons could and should be devoured by the wide metal world thanks to the EP” – Ring Master Review

“Canada has always had talented heavy metal and extreme metal bands take to the world’s stage and show off their killers talents, and Where Giants Once Stood are no exception to the rule. This quartet from Toronto, Canada plays a catchy and memorable style of heavy metal with an aggressive edge to their songs. This e.p. features four tracks that’ll want to make you stage dive with their headbanging rhythms and a drumming style that only adds more fire power to this quartet’s heavy metal music.” – Explicitly Intense

“This is great Canadian Metal and if you’re looking for something new look no further, WHERE GIANTS ONCE STOOD are new to the turf but will soon make it their own that’s for sure. If you like the idea of a ton of different sections of metal coming together to form one monster then this is it.” – Metal Temple

“This album is nothing but a delight to listen to, with 19 minutes of pure rowchy metalcore, once it’s over it only leaves us begging for more… Brilliant melodic metalcore very well built! The guitar work on this album is simply genius, twin guitar harmonies, dropped palm muted riffs, gut bustin legatos oh my god! That rocks so much! Vocals are both guttural and clean which is the main foundation of metalcore but usually in this kind of album the clean parts somehow annoy me but not in this one! It fits, it’s everything from classic melodic metal “a la” Iron Maiden to more contemporary brutality it’s just plain awesome!” – The Blood Shed

“Yeah, this EP (Live Above) is flawless in every way it deserves all the marbles it can! Great songs, great performance, great musicianship, great production… Nothing else to say… This is flawless!” – Canadian Beats

“A self-released offering with a mix of guttural growls, screams and clean vocals that are very reminiscent of early Killswitch Engage and The Human Abstract. Their style is very much their own however incorporating a bit of the technical guitar riffs with the heavy metal chugging, all of which blends well with smooth flowing bass lines and pounding drums that are sure to get you head-banging upon first listen.” – Damnation Magazine

“Live Above is a four-song EP. Where Giants Once Stood doesn’t go into preliminaries: an EP has a short duration and they don’t want to waste any time showing what they’re capable of. “Living in Secrity” immediately catches the attention with its guitar solo à-la-Unearth and its clean vocals à-la-Avenged Sevenfold during the chorus.” – Metal Made In Canada

“virtuoso skills… aggressive atmosphere, the brutality and the fury.. It is amazing!” – Metal Centre

“Deep Screams and guitar solos are what carries your ears through Where Giants Once Stood New EP Live Above” – Kingston Music Reviews

“This modern approach will certainly hold a lot of appeal to younger Metal fans, there are some good vocals from Reshaun Page, a mix of gutturals, screams and cleans and the balance between the two is about right, not too many cleans, which were a touch emotive for my personal tastes but nonetheless very well executed, the guy has a great voice and a phenomenal range. What did really appeal to me, personally, were the technical elements to the guitars from Jordan Turnbull, altogether the combination making a good debut release. ” – Metal Talk (Review of The Changing 2013)

“Ringing guitars flanked by an assaultive underbeat and drill sergeant vocals combine to create a winning album by a band not afraid of hard work.” – New Canadian Music (Review of The Changing 2013)

“Where Giants Once Stood is a veritable Canadian metal force. A group who have a fairly good handle on mixing cleans and growls this band is simply fun to listen too. Their crazed riffs help to inspire circle pit starting fury in my heart and make me want to headbang until I throw my back out. Meanwhile the crushing playing on songs like Heavens Tremble shows a touch of the classic hardcore attitude promising a face ripping good time. Their mix of furious riffs and super technical solos is not to be missed.” – Two Guys Metal Reviews (Review of The Changing 2013)

Great heavy metal doesn’t waste time, and Where Giants Once Stood have hit the ground running. This July, the Toronto metallers return with the video for their new single ‘Living in Security’, filmed on location in Toronto and directed by LoganSwinkels of Logan Lights Creative. An anthem for taking control of your own destiny, ‘Living in Security’ deconstructs small-town complacency and showcases the band’s mostcreatively ambitious material to date.

‘Living in Security’ is the first single to be taken from the new EP Live Above, due for release September 2, 2014. Live Above is the natural successor to 2013’s The Changing EP, which tore onto the iTunes metal charts in July 2013 with a debut at no.2, earning critical praise, sponsorship from Ernie Ball and a place on SoundSHOCK’s “Best of 2013” feature along the way. The four new tracks take Where Giants Once Stood’s signature sound of scorching guitar work, “assaultive underbeats” and“drill-sergeant vocals” to soaring new heights, thanks to incendiary production by Jon Howard of Threat Signal. “Since we started up last year, we’ve grown so much as musicians, as songwriters and as performers”, reveals lead guitarist Jordan Turnbull. “We knew the sound of this new material had to be something special to reflect that, and Jon Howard’s production has really taken the Giants sound to the next level!”

The release of Live Above will see W.G.O.S. hit the road this summer for their third independently-booked tour of Eastern Canada, as the band move from city to city and strength to strength to prove themselves as genuine contenders in the Canadian metal scene. For lead vocalist Reshaun Page, touring is a call-to-arms: “Now we’ve arrived, we’re not going anywhere! Canadian audiences are some of the best in the world, and we can’t wait to show metal fans the new material with our heaviest live shows yet!”

While W.G.O.S. have been winning fans on home turf with their frenetic live shows that have seen them share the stage with bands such as Chelsea Grin and Born of Osiris, social media is equally important to the band’s ethos as they use their online presence to connect with metal fans across the globe. Theirstellar YouTube channel featuring everything from interviews and lyric videos to exclusive cover songs and blistering instrumental playthroughs, while their Instagram and Twitter feeds provide to-the-minute studio and live updates. Guitarist Scott Major explains, “Whether it’s keeping up with us on tour through Twitter or rocking with us on YouTube, we want you to get the full Giants experience wherever you are!”

“The Left Behind EP, is the latest offering from Canadian hard rockers Breached, and man it is quite impressive…Disc opener, “Left Behind”, works off a killer riff and features overdriven guitars and a captivating chorus which led me to be immediately sucked into the EP. The remaining four songs follow suit and are solid hard rock tunes in their own right, but at only 17 minutes long, I found this EP to be a bit of a tease.” – Pure Grain Audio

“Toronto based hard rock band BREACHED have an excellent new CD/EP out now called ‘Left Behind’ that will please fans of all genres of rock.” – Fireworks Mag UK

“Breached really delivers on the goal of making emotionally charged music. Vocalist Bobby Noakes has an incredibly powerful voice as it soars over the heavy distortion-laden guitars and precise explosions of the rhythm section.” – Rock Freaks

““Left Behind” is well-structured, well-written and well-executed in every way! The band consists of 4 incredibly talented musicians: Bobby Noakes (Vocals), Mike Diesel (Guitar), Ryan Alexander (Bass) and Neil Uppal (Drums). You can tell, just from listening to a few seconds of their music, that they are masters of their crafts!” – New-Transcendence

“The album is full of intense guitars by Mike Diesel, expressive lyrics from the melodic vocal chords of Bobby Noakes and the tight rhythm section of Ryan Alexander on bass and Neil Uppal on drums. The title track and first single, Left Behind, is catchy song that gets caught in your head and has you singing along for hours afterward.” – Screamer Magazine

“If Breaking Benjamin, The Foo Fighters and Default had a hard-rocking, harmoniously heavy, and genetically mutated child, its name be Breached. Now out with their third gripping EP, Breached has caught hold of the emotional ether from which they have strived to cultivate their fan-base, yearning to rid us all of the pain we’ve Left Behind.” – Razmataz Mag

“…five songs of positivity, full of beautiful melodies and lyrics…Another great EP guys, what’s next?” – Bucket List Music Reviews

“a hugely enjoyable miniature peek into the potentially huge future which lies ahead of this quartet.” – Planet Mosh

“Left Behind is their third EP, coming on the heels of their debut self titled EP and the acoustic version which followed to keep their fans happy, and I have to say that it is promising. There is definite power in the emotions that have been poured into the writing of these songs.

The title track had me singing along on my second listen and swaying along to the chorus, before launching into Piece By Piece with a more upbeat, punky sound with a few good screams mixed in, and the feel continues with All We Need. The passion that has gone into the writing and production is evident, and when the tempo drops for the next track, that energy is transferred to a different frequency and you really feel the lyrics of Brighter Days. This is for me where the vocal talent of Bobby Noakes shines the most, a real arms in the air song.” – Wyrd Ways

“Powerful and soul touching melodic rock, I can get on board with that. This is exactly what Breached has to offer with their own brand of very heavy and very melodic modern rock that is not afraid to get a wee bit proggy. Their new record Left Behind speaks legions to their potential with powerful songwriting and some great musicianship all around. ” – Two Guys Metal Reviews

“Toronto based Breached are probably on a hiding to nothing by choosing to throw their musical hat into the ring with their own take on a sound that has many, many big established names still kicking around in it somewhere. The saving grace for this, their second EP, is that it is a stripped back affair with a heavy acoustic feel to the five songs that we’re treated to: four originals and a not too shabby cover of the Alice In Chains song ‘No Excuses’.

What is most certainly does is impress. The vocals from Bobby Noakes are right on the money and have plenty power and feeling. The same goes for guitars of Mike Diesel, the bass playing of Ryan Alexander and Drums from Neil Uppal. This is a true team performance and one which is highly recommended. If Breached are struggling to get proper recognition and support for their music, which it definitely deserves, then it’s up to us to get this one noticed. Buy or download, I guarantee you will not be disappointed. 8/ 10” – Powerplay Mag UK

“They rocked the stage and made the crowd scream, wanting more…I was completely blown away by Bobby’s powerful pipes, along with Mike’s back up vocals and melodic/heavy guitar playing. The two of them put together make a beautiful duet. I loved Ryan’s headbanging moves and bad ass bass playing. The band overall has great chemistry on stage, and very good stage presence overall.” – TheSceneMagazine.ca

“the dynamic vocals and solid production value of this 5-track stunner are reminiscent of the great unplugged sessions of the 90’s. The talented quartet delivers each track with such flawless ability that I’m sure there is a long-life ahead for this band.” – NewCanadianMusic.ca (Revolution Sessions Review)

“I love this!!! It’s a bit mainstream but the energy is delicious. I already know I must see a live show by these guys. “Control” is still my favorite but all these songs rock.” – Hip Rock Magazine

” a fine slice of modern rock. Think Chevelle, Faktion, Submersed and those kinds of bands and you are in the right ballpark. The production is very good for this style of music with a nice sound to especially the drums. They sound huge!

First out is Let Go, a nice start that shows us what we are in for here, complete with some screaming as well. Second out is the very Chevelle-esque song Control, also a nice song with a very emotional vocal performance from singer Bobby Noakes. Overall the vocals are great and so are the tunes. I am very intrigued to see what they can do with a full length album.

I think that fans of tough modern rock should give this a listen. 16 minutes of very promising stuff! Check it out today!” – Melodic.net (Self titled EP Review)

“Breached has a dynamic hard rock sound that would appeal to Soundgarden fans. This five-song EP features heavy riffing, powerful vocals, and a rhythm section as solid as the Canadian Shield.” – NewCanadianMusic

“They always put on a good show and their music is getting better and better. For a band who has only been around about two years, they have accomplished quite a bit” – Fridae TV (FridaeTV.com)

“Singer Bobby Noakes has a powerful voice with a hard edge and excellent supporting band” – T Mak World (TMAKWorld.com)

“Breached has bottled that delicious era of “hit you in the heart” rock and brought it back to unleash on audiences” – Amber Waves (Open ‘Til Midnight)

hollow - mordrake 2014 (full album)

‘Mordrake’ is now available on iTunes and Bandcamp with a limited edition Hate T-Shirt designed by Bob Skelton, the acclaimed airbrush artist responsible for the band’s corpse-paint. Produced at Uplift Studios by Kevin Jardine (Slaves On Dope) and co-produced by Dan Lauzon (Entropy) and Hollow, the debut is the follow up to the band’s 2010 EP ‘Cynoptic Eschaton’ and features 12 extreme tracks all recorded with an unique analogue approach. Without the use of any triggers, midi or copy/paste editing, the album showcases live off the floor performances that bring a breath of fresh air into an over-compressed and digital world of today’s recordings. Since 2009, Hollow has been conquering audiences across Québec and Ontario with their unique look and high-energy stage performances, which has seen them perform at festival such as Heavy MTL and Trois Rivieres Metal Fest plus share the stage with names such as Voivod, Suffocation, Sword, Jungle Rot, Blackguard, The Agonist,1349, Tyr, Orphaned Land, Aborted, Augury and many more.

“Clad in black and painted in ghostly, skeletal white and gray, Montreal’s Hollow is one of North America’s most deceptively original and subversive underground metal acts today. Exploiting the surface aesthetics of black metal, the band surprises with an abundance of musical diversity and depth….A primer on how extreme metal ought to sound: adventurous, expansive, daring, and heroic.” – Metal Underground

‘Mordrake’ is a superbly crafted album and an exciting listen, so much so I can’t even begin to imagine where these guys will go from here.” – Metal Talk

“Hollow show a lot of versatility and excellent chops on a very promising debut effort.” – About.com Heavy Metal

“Mordrake is simply remarkable, one of the most promethean debuts in a long time and certainly within death metal this year, though Hollow have a sound and presence which you cannot confine to a single genre or singular mind-set. A brilliant album from a brilliant band” – Ring Master Review

“At first listen, I knew this band was a step ahead of the pack. These guys are tight as hell, and create an intense atmosphere with their brutal approach to metal…For only having one guitarist, they’ve certainly got the right one – this dude shreds!!! Hot damn. And of course, as for vocal delivery, you get it all on this album. Nice high black metal-eque screaming, demonic harmonies, and intense gutteral death metal growls.

All of these guys are above average musicians on their own, which is blatantly evident when listening to them play as a band. I would jump at the opportunity to see Hollow play live, and if they’re coming to play near you, I advise you do the same. But more importantly, if you’re a black metal fan, get yourself a copy of Mardrake when it comes out on May 30th.” – Counter Culture Nerd

– Muzik Injection

Shared Stage with:
VOÏVOD, SUFFOCATION, SWORD, JUNGLE ROT, IWRESTLEDABEARONCE, BLACKGUARD, THE AGONIST, BEYOND CREATION,  MARDUK, 1349, TYR, ORPHANED LAND, KEEP OF KALESSIN, SUIDAKRA, PSYCROPTIC, ABORTED, PATHOLOGY, AUGURY, EINHERJER, CRIMSON SHADOWS, OPRHANED LAND

Orillia, ON’s thrash progressive metal band ADRENECHROME has added more dates to their summer Ontario and Quebec CHROMED Tour, which includes supporting Threat Signal on June 28th in Kitchener, ON. (all dates listed below).

“ADRENECHROME is extremely proud to announce that after three month’s of intensive “labour” [and 6 years in the making] we will be giving birth to a 13 day extended tour of madness and chaos across Ontario and Quebec. This “child monster” of a tour will be taking us from Sarnia to Quebec City, and all points between, wreaking new born rock’n’roll havok at every stop. Come join us as we show CANADA that we’re a big boy band….and look out! cause this tour is leaving a trail of head’s all over central CANADA :] much love all…..see you on the road.” comments vocalist/guitarist Chris Freisen.

The tour is in support of forthcoming new material and their 2012 debut EP ‘Hideous Appetites’ that has garnered rave reviews from metal media and strong support from Canadian loud radio charts for its seven explosive tracks that blend innovative guitar shredding, furious operatic vocals, thundering drums and rumbling, gut-busting bass. ‘Hideous Appetites’ was produced by Darius Szcespaniak whom has engineered on such albums by SACRIFICE, SUM 41, BLACK CROWES to name a few. This beast truly stands out from the herd as Adrenechrome have crafted old school classic thrash to meet today’s modern prog evolution to bring back good ol’ fashioned face melting rock n’ roll that has lead them to share the stage with Corrosion of Conformity, Green Jelly, Ninjaspy, Manahan, The Isosceles Project, Caym, Exes For Eyes, Odium.

Music Video – Titans Fall – http://youtu.be/ptOyEyrvrOs

“What starts out as a solid thrash album quickly morphs into a far more interesting, original, and engaging work with strong flavours of Mastodon’s proggy sludge and big riffs.” – Metal Hammer

“each song features a sweaty, aggressive thrash engine that propels the music forward, but the instrumentation is far more skillful and intricate than just straightforward shredding. “Hymn for the Heathens” has a great classic rock feel to it and opener “Titans Fall” does its mythic subject matter proud.” – Exclaim!

“The illustrious list of top quality metal bands to emerge from Canada has just been added to. Adrenechrome take the hard hitting technicality of bands like Realm, the addictive assault of classic thrash and bring it all up to date with a liberal helping of Baroness style, passionate free thinking. It’s a fresh, interesting, exciting combination of sounds that makes new seven track EP Hideous Appetites, well worth going out of your way to track down. Songs like ‘Titan’s Fall’ and ‘Hymn For The Heathens’ combine the immediate appeal of crisp, melodic riffing with a clear longevity, born of their intelligent complexity and diversity. CK 4 /5″ – Zero Tolerance Magazine

“Adrenechrome have concocted a winning recipe. This four-piece from Ontario, Canada clearly know their way around thrash’s greats but show no fear in chucking in some modern flair. And I don’t mean crash, bang, wallop, what the hell – you only have to hear the opening riff to ‘Titans Fall’ to get those saliva glands going.” – Metal-Rules.com

1. Titans Fall (3:18)
2. Six Guns (6:17)
3. The Horror (5:26)
4. Hymn For The Heathens (4:17)
5. Winds of The Void (5:01)
6. Locust Wings (4:26)
7. Hobbled (4:58)

WACKEN METAL BATTLE CANADA is proud to announce MUTANK (Montreal) WMBC 2014 champion. After hundreds of submissions and over 100 bands selected to compete in battles across the country, five bands remained representing their cities on Saturday, June 7 at Opera House (735 Queen St E.) for the WMBC National Final. Neck of The Woods from Vancouver, Exit Strategy from Calgary, Mutank from Montreal plus My Hollow and Burning The Day from Toronto all took the stage to a packed crowd at Opera House where they were judged by a panel of music industry that included Robb Reiner (Anvil), Noel Peters (Inertia Entertainment), Lindsay Schoolcraft (Cradle Of Filth), Jon Asher (Asher Media Relations), Adam Sewell (Riot, Rock Management / Stereo Dynamite), Darrell Shelley (Scene Magazine), Tim Henderson (BW&BK), Drew Copland (Villainizer).

“Saturday night was an incredible display of talent from across the country. Each band proved that they deserved to be on that stage. With great pride we will send off thrash metal powerhouse and new champions Mutank to Wacken.” comments WMBC organizer JJ Tartaglia.

About: Over 100 independent Canadian metal bands were selected to participate in this year’s Wacken Metal Battle Canada line up in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. The bands competed during the months of March, April and May in 22 qualifying rounds, 6 semi-finals, and an Alberta final along with the national final to be held on June 7th in Toronto, ON at Opera House.

One band will be chosen to represent the nation with highest honour at this year’s 2014 international battle at the world’s most prestigious metal festival Wacken Open Air in Wacken, Germany.

The finals will have the following representation and will be judged along with all other rounds by a panel of music industry representatives.

1 finalist from Vancouver, BC
1 finalist from Alberta (Calgary & Edmonton will face off in Alberta final)
2 finalists from Toronto, ON
1 finalist from Montreal, QC

Last year’s battle was witnessed to Toronto, ON’s epic power/death metal band Crimson Shadows not only winning the 2013 Canadian final but conquering the international final and performing in front of thousands unknown to their behemoth sound. (Video of that champion set can be viewed here.) The band joined a list of Canadian heavyweights such as Voivod, Exciter, Razor, Annihilator, Anvil, Kataklysm, Cryptopsy, 3 Inches of Bloods, Despised Icon and Danko Jones who have performed at the festival in years past.

Submissions were open from December 5, 2013 to January 31, 2014.
