‘CHOCOLATé’ Tour: Rising Montreal World/Reggae Artist AURESIA and Cameroon’s FLO Team Up For Canadian Dates

Montreal’s award winning world/reggae artist AURESIA and Cameroon roots reggae artist FLO have paired up for a cross Canada ‘CHOCOLATé’ Tour in promotion of their recent releases. Sharing a five piece band, AURESIA and FLO will be performing dates from Montreal and going West as far as British Columbia to showcase their eclectic world sounds for the months of July and August.
Auresia comments:“I am excited to tour across Canada this summer with my newest album RISIN’! as part of the CHOCOLATé TOUR! I am looking forward to reconnecting with old fans I met during my last Canada Love Tour in 2010, and make new friends along the beautiful vast country roads of Canada. I’ll be traveling from Montreal to the West Coast Islands (Quadra, Hornby). Rolling through the foggy hills of Ontario, the flat open blue skies of the prairies, the magnificent Rockies and green Kootneys, crystal blue lakes and rivers of BC to the amazing ocean! After performing excerpts from my new album in Jamaica this past Winter/Spring, filming my music video for my single CHOCOLATE on a roots cocoa farm, I am excited to share my sophomore effort with the rest of Canada this July and August along with my epic 5 piece band and FLO (Cameroon roots reggae artist).“

Adding to her tour experience in USA, South America (Colombia, Ecudor, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Brazil), AURESIA spent time in Jamaica this past Winter/ Spring 2014 to perform show dates with artists such as ANDREW TOSH (Peter Tosh’s son),  Jah Bouks and Louie Rankin (famous movie star and dancehall artist), write and record, plus film her latest music video ‘Chocalate’ (view video at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_sdteXyfVk) on a cocoa farm in St. Mary’s Parish at the Likle Dunn Falls in St. Anne’s.

Her latest album ‘Risin!’ was released September 3rd, 2013, with the first single “High”hitting radio across Canada.  The release bursts with soulful pop melodies and tackles the themes of love: playful love, long distance love, planetary love, risky love and something we can all relate to: love of chocolate! Featuring collaborations with an international cast of musicians from Montreal, Cuba, Toronto, Jamaica and beyond, the album is a fusion of Reggae, Salsa, RnB, Dancehall, Reggaeton, Rock and Flamenco. With lyrics in English, Spanish and French, Risin! illustrates Auresia’s evolution since her 2008 self-titled debut.

FLO, a lyricist, composer, performer, and a committed artist to his craft has toured Africa, France and the United States, and now is taking on Montreal, one of Canada’s most diverse world arts and music scenes. Drawing inspiration from the greatest names in reggae as well as from folk, blues, hip hop and electronic music, Flo is promoting his album “How Are You Doing” mastered at the legendary Tuff Gong Studios in Jamaica. His cross Canada tour with Auresia this summer is a spiritual mission to spread love to the people.

In addition to the tour, FLO is now working on a new single called “SUGAR” with the Montreal based Ska Band the Skatton club lead by the saxophone player Andre Desilet and set to be released by the end of July 2014.

A show stopper! With his thick dreadlocks this  Cameroon artist enters the stage singing ‘Trenchtown Rock’, a lesser known bob Marley song but none the less emblematic as a reggae tribute . Flo flirts with the public who answer back automatically to his charisma. He then sits down telling a story, while self -accompanying himself  with his guitar gives a medley of Marley songs : Religious! By the end of the show Flo triumphs: the vibe electrical and mystic. Bob marley’s spirit was with us and the public is moved.” – ToukiMontreal.com

Auresia comments on why Chocolate is a super food.

1. It has the power to make you feel like you are in love.

2.  It gives you energy.

3. Lifts your spirits when you are down.

4. Aphrodisiac.

5. Is good for your skin, high in anti oxidants.

6. I did the video on the chocolate/ cocoa farm because I wanted to educate people on the realities of chocolate, where it came from, it’s pure cacao form, the bean how to harvest it, and make real chocolate type things- cocoa tea/ chocolate tea, – chocolate is dark and people are blinded by the commercialism of Hershey’s. Cadbury, etc- which the first ingredients are often sugar, hydrogenated oils and milk products. This is not real chocolate and is not healthy and what gives a bad rep to chocolate.

7. Chocolate gets you irie!

8. Chocolate enriches you, relieves stress, helps with PMS, can even be better than..

9. Chocolate is becoming extinct and we need to promote cocoa farms and support them more, and know the benefits of it. Chocolate/ cocoa tea used to be a lot more popular in Jamaica years ago. I feel we need to bring it back to all the restaurants and eateries again in Ja. It is TOO amazing!10. IMPORTANCE of FAIR TRADE and ORGANIC CHOCOLATE is massive!- pesticide/ herbicide and fungicide free   YES

11. I have always loved chocolate! When i was a kid I used to spend a lot of time searching for hidden chocolate treats that my parents would hide in the sneakiest spots, but I even found the Easter stash of chocolate months in advance and managed to finish it all one year. My parents did not know what to do lol. However after I wrote this song it really kicked in for me the undeniable and incredible properties of chocolate.

12. The Mayans used to drink only chocolate when fasting.

13. When eating 70% Chocolate or higher, it lowers blood pressure, cuts bad cholesterol, boosts anti- bodies, good for your heart,  sharpens your brain better than coffee or green tea, high in antioxidants.

14. Chocolate is absolutely incredible!

PRESS:

“Risin’ is an album with potential. Auresia’s voice is something completely out of this world and packs a hell of a knockout punch. It’s songs like this that should be blasting out of every radio, instead of Miley Cyrus.”  – Lithium Magazine

“Auresia infuses her music with the soulful, vibrant sounds of reggae and on her new album she brings a little something more. “ Latin-infused music with seductive vocals and brass section is both powerful and enticing. You’ll want to put on your dancing shoes. Auresia brings heart and soul.”   – Soul Matters Mag

“Her first single Risin’ gives a taste of her pop side and sounds similar to Nelly Furtado with language blends and strong connections to cultural backgrounds.  – The Griff

“Her astonishing vocal range, power, and rawness in this recording set her apart from other artists. This record is definitely worth checking out. The album is cathartic, with intense swells of emotion and excellent points of release.”  – Excalibur Publications

“Listening to her intricate melodies, beautiful harmonies, eclectic mix of Caribbean, soul, latin and pop flavors, and empowering eco-conscious lyrics, it’s no surprise she’s been nominated for Favorite World Artist at the 2010 Independent Music Awards and for four awards at the Canadian Reggae Music Awards.”    – Coolgrrls.com

*** “Every track on this album is deep and delicious, with bass sweetness and dub- informed production…it’s obvious that Auresia is a talent worth watching.”— David Dacks, Exclaim!, 02.03.09

*** “If there ever was a time, since Bob Marley where Reggae could actually penetrate popular music, Auresia definitely has the potential to do it.” –Duke Eatmon, CBC Radio 1, Home Run,

*** Here is a new breed of Reggae for the urban soul; deep roots riddims swathed by the melodies of Auresia’s sweet and haunting voice. Co-produced with Montreal musician David Lines (Kali & Dub Inc, Mongrels), Auresia’s album was three years in the making, and having recently lost her mother to domestic violence, she has dedicated this effort to helping empower women.

*** “Auresia is one of Montreal’s top reggae talent. Her melodic voice and original style stand her apart from the rest. She will be creating big waves with her new album” –Loralie Bromby, Rize Productions, Montreal, Quebec

Progressive Folk Metal PROTOKULT Reveal Artwork and Track Listing From Upcoming Album ‘No Beer In Heaven’ Out On August 8th

Toronto, ON’s fun loving, beer drinking progressive folk metal band PROTOKULT are proud to share with fans artwork and the track listing for their upcoming album ‘No Beer In Heaven’ set for official release on August 8th, 2014 to follow up 2011 EP ‘Marzena’ and 2009 debut ‘Ancestral Anthems’.

“We are anxious and excited to finally unleash the first PROTOKULT full-length album with our current and talented lineup. Expect nothing short of pure, heathen prog-folk with a healthy traditional metal dosage in the mix. Our first single, Get Me A Beer will be released early this Julyand expect the official video shortly thereafter! The video follows a story line which can be best described as “Spinal Tap meets folk-metal” and captures the band in an unpleasant, humorous yet all-too-realistic situation in which artists may find themselves in (we certainly have!)” – Martin Drozd

Years in the making and a few line up changes in the PROTOKULT camp, the Eastern European transplants have transformed progressive, folk and heavy metal influences into a twelve track adventurous trek, diving into themes of drinking, history and human endeavor. Mixing a duo vocal attack of melodic operatics plus woodwinds from Ekaterina Pyatkova and high spirited chanting growls from guitarist Martin Drozd, Protokult showcase a diversified and powerful engagement that includes shredding with guitarist Vodnik, the pounding force of Mike Matveev on drums and the grooves of bassist Dawid Slowiak.

In additional news, PROTOKULT will be performing a Toronto CD release show on July 26th for hometown fans at Bovine Sex Club with support from locals Primalfrost, Tsargrad and Montreal’s Karkaos. (show details can found here)

About:

An ever-evolving band, PROTOKULT is now better than ever.

Starting as the trio of Martin Drozd (Vocals, Guitar, Synthesizer), Mike Matveev (Drums) and Dawid Slowiak (Bass), the band developed itself through numerous changes in sound and line-up. The addition of former keyboardist Gregor Darwin came when new, more mature interests in history, paganism and folklore took hold — followed by the unleashing of their debut album, Ancestral Anthems. With the first two pressings selling out in months, the group took things to the next level. Ekaterina Pyatkova (Vocals, Woodwinds, Synthesizer) and Jeremy Jackson aka Vodnik (Guitar) both joined in 2010, giving PROTOKULT the visionary, unique folk-metal sound it has today.

Although PROTOKULT is a Canadian-based group, the members come from various backgrounds (Polish, Irish, Russian, Czech) and the result is a marvelous mix of Canadian and international forces. The goal is to unite these cultures into one sound, balancing tradition and folklore with heavy, thrash and black metal for head-bangers everywhere.

With a beauty and the beast-like contrast between Ekaterina’s haunting vocals and the band’s metal onslaught, whether they are reinventing the wheel or carrying down the torch high, PROTOKULT has an exhilarating, fresh sound for the 21st century.

From the studio to the stage, PROTOKULT puts on a live show that can be best described as engaging, energetic and in essence, a live ritual — ‘A must-see act’, according to the Emergenza festival.

Over the past few years, PROTOKULT has graced the stage with ARKONA, TURISAS, ALESTORM, BLACKGUARD (formerly Profugus Mortis), RAZOR and WILL OF THE ANCIENTS to name a few.

Their 2011 EP, ‘Marzena’ featured the six-piece line-up at its prime at the time, with energetic compositions that sweep you up from the first note and carry you right to the last. Following the release, the group played constantly across central-eastern Ontario, further establishing its name.

During a brief hiatus and writing period, the group underwent another loss, with keyboardist Gregor Darwin going off to Harvard for Celtic Studies. After a few personal struggles, in mid-2013, the members focused intensively on hammering out new material, and what could have been another demo/EP (consisting of 4 tracks previously recorded in 2012) had turned into plans for a full-length album. Clocking in at just under an hour, ‘No Beer In Heaven‘, captures the reformed quintet at an all-time high, showcasing an impressive palette of entirely new compositions, and straps the listener on an adventurous, heavy and experimental trek, diving into themes of drinking, history and human endeavor.

‘No Beer In Heaven’ was recorded at Spectre Sound Studios (Bloodshoteye feat. Randy of Lamb of God; and Woods of Ypres, one of the BWBK Top 30 Canadian albums) and will be released August 8, 2014.

– 30 –

“They belong amongst the ranks of bands like Moonsorrow and Skyforger…Almost every song twists and turns through several folk metal transformations, without ever tapping into cheesy or overly tired clichés.”- Metal Observer (2010 review for Ancestral Anthems)

“Their songs pulse and writhe like a sinuous living thing.” – Exclaim (2012 review of Marzena)
