About:
Birthed out of the womb of Craigslist, where members found one another, EXPAIN delivers music that’s energetic, diverse and thoughtful in every sense of the word.  Playing to its sense of humour, ‘Just The Tip’ also represents the beginning of a musical journey that’s not bound to stop or slow down any time soon.  With its lyrical content showcasing everything from overcoming adversity to partying hard, living in an ever-changing city and the state of today’s society as a whole, EXPAIN has captured its true identity on record. Ranging in influences from progressive tech to thrash groovy jazz (check out their guitar bass playthrough video ‘Aggressions Progression’ – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3-ynhod1H8), you’ll see what ‘Just The Tip’ has to offer with a flick of a volume knob!

About:

As interests in history, paganism and folklore took an increasingly strong hold on folk metallers PROTOKULT, the band was inspired to unleash its debut album, Ancestral Anthems. With the first two pressings selling out in months, they vowed to take things to the next level while continuing to deliver a unique mix of Canadian and international influences.

PROTOKULT’s goal? To unite its members’ diverse cultures into one sound, balancing tradition and folklore with heavy, thrash and black metal for headbangers everywhere.

Over the past few years, the ever-evolving PROTOKULT has graced the stage with the likes of ARKONA, TURISAS, ALESTORM, BLACKGUARD (formerly Profugus Mortis) and WILL OF THE ANCIENTS and now they’re ready to unveil a full-length follow-up to 2011 EP Marzena.

With a beauty and the beast-like contrast between Ekaterina’s haunting vocals and the band’s metal onslaught, No Beer In Heaven, which is slated for an August 8 release, captures the reformed quintet at an all-time high, showcasing an impressive palette of entirely new compositions, and straps the listener on an adventurous, heavy and experimental trek, diving into themes of drinking, history and human endeavor.

About:

Formed when three Newfoundlanders crossed paths in the Canadian heavy metal capital with Ahmed Saad who hails from the Middle East, the injection of music immediately began to flow through their veins and M.E.C.H. metal was soon born.

“It stands for Middle East Coast Heavy Metal; Our drummer being from the Middle East and the rest of the members being from the east coast of Canada,” explains Stephen Reynolds (bass, vocals). ‘Every single person in this band is a songwriter, so the songs come out with their own feel and develop naturally.’ continues Reynolds. ‘We don’t shackle ourselves to any kind of focused idea, which brings about a sort of honesty in the music not often found in metal.’

DISPARAGER Member Breaks Vertebrae; Post Video Comment + Cancel NYC July 27th Date; New Lyric Video ‘RIP Bill Hicks’; New EP Out ‘Timeless, Ageless’

DISPARAGER vocalist / guitarist Chris AhKao has posted a video comment on facebook where he addresses his recent injury of fracturing his L2 vertebrae and cancelling their upcoming show on July 27th at The Acheron in NYC.

In additional news, the post rock metal band recently unleashed a new lyric video ‘RIP Bill Hicks’ from their debut EP ‘Timeless, Ageless’ produced by Jay Maas (Defeater, Bane, H2O, American Nightmare, Polar Bear Club).

Lyric Video – RIP Bill Hicks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVGAWd57KFs

Vocalist / guitarist Chris Ahkao comments:
“R.I.P. Bill Hicks is about letting go of something that is wrong for you, even if the act of letting go, the decision to let go, and everything leading up to that decision is hard.  Comfort and familiarity are nice, but allowing those feelings to steer your life treads dangerously close to living in fear.  Our days are precious and few and we must decide what is worth our time.”

Show Dates:

DISPARAGER CANCELLED ON SHOW – July 27 @ The Acheron – Brooklyn, NY w/ Blackest,  Warm, Dead Empires

Formed just last year, DISPARAGER has always had the crazy notion that music is art and that art is never a means to an end but an end in itself. As an extension of frontman Chris AhKao regaining his life from personal demons, this debut EP is a testament to that. Bursting with dense rawness and precision while pushing the boundaries of metal with tracks like “At Least I Still Have Bon Iver” – half folk song, half crushing mix of Isis and Slayer – and “Pictures” – a time signature mindfuck the band is proud NOT to call prog rock. The music is meant to showcase a refusal to settle, to compromise, to live any other life than that inspired by unwavering intent, self-expression and integrity.
