HYPERIA Thrash The Taste Buds With “Deathbringer Hot Sauce” For New Album “The Serpent’s Cycle”

Gearing up for their hometown Vancouver album launch show on December 15th at Wise Hall (info), Canadian thrashers Hyperia have teamed up with The Scoville Scoundrels to create the “Deathbringer Hot Sauce” that will be exclusively available at their upcoming shows and tour dates.

“This stuff is seriously hot and insanely tasty. Buy one yourself at any of our upcoming shows!” adds the band.

The hot sauce was created by Hyperia‘s newly recruited drummer Aaron Bell who with his co-worker, both working as concrete truck drivers and penchant for pepper farming decided to launch their hot sauce company “The Scoville Scoundrels”. Bell explains further:

“I grew five plants three years ago with mild success. The next year I saw that AJ had moved into an apartment with a south-facing balcony garden and my gears started turning in his head. The next year AJ and I did five plants, but each plant got three yields and we made about 16 mason jars, then 2023 rolled around, and decided we should go big! We bought around 40 pepper plants with about six different types of peppers, and it was so hard to keep up, in fact, we were just getting warmed up and had a lot more to bottle.

This specific SAUCE for Hyperia, which is only a limited run, but can be duplicated consists of ghost pepper, Trinidad, scorpion, Orange, habanero, Carolina, reaper, local vinegar, garlic, honey, onion, organic papaya, organic pineapple, organic blood, orange, organic, grapefruit, organic, lime, and lemon.”

Get ready to have your face blown off with the latest thrash attack from Canada’s Hyperia. Their third full-length “The Serpent’s Cycle”, was just unleashed on November 17th, and it marks a new era for them boasting some of the most aggressive thrash metal they’ve ever written, complimented with plenty of melodic vocals and guitar work. It consists of everything Hyperia stands for shred, speed, and intricacy and it will definitely catch the attention of musicians and non-musicians alike. Hyperia shares their excitement for the release:

“This is the first album we’ve released that isn’t much of a concept album like our first two. This album deals with different lyrical ideas such as the human condition, philosophy, psychology, partying, and much more. Musically this album is insanely aggressive, technical, and fast. We have some of the fastest songs we’ve ever written on this album and during recording, we were all definitely pushed to, and sometimes past, our limits.”

To Hyperia, “The Serpent’s Cycle” is the pinnacle so far of their creativity and finesse. They’ve taken familiar elements they’ve used before, such as menacing thrash riffs and pretty melodies and by presenting a seamless interaction between each member of the band, their signature sound and furious stage presence is something to be admired.

The eleven-track album is much more polished than its predecessors and continues the same writing process, the majority of the songwriting is done by guitarist Colin Ryley but everyone gives input and transforms the songs into what they are in the end. Ryley also mixed the album, while Mika Jussila mastered it and the album art was done by Caitlin Delaplace.

Wailing vocals, shredding guitars, and fast, heavy drums await in “The Serpent’s Cycle”, which is recommended for fans of Lost Society, Exmortus, and Municipal Waste.

Following up their single “Jewels of the Maw” unleashed this past July just before their Western Canadian tour, Grande Prairie, Canada’s Devolver is unveiling their new track “New Blood”, which will be also featured on their forthcoming sophomore album produced with Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, Deicide, Devildriver, Whitechapel).

For this new music video, the band wanted to do something fun and pay homage to one of the greatest musical video games “Guitar Hero”. The band explains further.

“We had someone make the Guitar Hero charts for New Blood and Jewels Of The Maw, so if you play Clone Hero on PC you can download and play our songs! About the song, it’s an amalgamation of riffs written in a single sitting whilst Devin was sitting on a staircase bullshitting with Bevin. It was quickly developed into a skeleton structure at which point Bevin wrote drums for the song. After a tweak to the chorus, the song was finished until lyrics were added and a solo was added after the first chorus per Mark Lewis’ suggestion. This song doesn’t sit down at all and goes right until it ends. With chugging riffs, interesting melodies, ripping solos, and a catchy yet memorable chorus, we feel “New Blood” is putting our best foot forward.”

Melding a particular brand of metal, Devolver can be described as “Gothenburg worship meets NWOAHM”. Formed by guitarist Devin Babcock and drummer/producer Bevin Booth, and later rounded out by guitarist Jayde Penner, vocalist Chris Brown, and bassist Jaylen Elias, Devolver blends groovy metalcore and melodic death metal, creating a unique sound that appeals to fans of modern metal genres while embracing their old school influences, wearing them on their sleeve. With a heavy-hitting new album in tow, and fueled by a passion that can only be understood by seeing their unbridled live performance, they are ready to make waves in Canadian and international metal scenes alike. Fun Facts – Story Angles:

1. For the New Blood video we just wanted to do something fun. We’re really just a bunch of idiots so we didn’t want this video to be too serious

2. We had someone actually make the Guitar Hero charts for New Blood and Jewels Of The Maw, so if you play Clone Hero on PC you can download and play our songs!

3. When we decided to work with Mark, we were scheduled to begin recording in March 2020. Obviously, the Covid-19 pandemic changed our plans. We decided to stick it out and wait til we could record with Mark. He was our top choice and we knew if we worked with him we could get the album we wanted without compromise.

4. After years of waiting we finally began recording in July 2022. We flew Mark in to record with us at our home studio and hosted him at our guitarist and drummer’s house for a few weeks. He left after guitars and came back for a few more weeks to do bass and vocals. Then our guitarist and drummer flew to his studio in Nashville to record drums and guitar solos.

5. We had the opportunity to play Loud As Hell in 2022 between Mark’s trips to record, and it was an absolute blast to play such an esteemed festival

Set to release their debut album “Too Late” on Rockshots Records this coming January 2024, Italy’s Last In Time will be inviting fans to experience a journey through various musical influences. It’s a rock album that combines the melody of AOR, the power of hard rock and metal, with a nod to 90s progressive rock. From the first track to the last, every song exudes energy and emotions, making it impossible to stand still in front of the speakers. The roaring guitars, powerful rhythm section, and charismatic vocals of the frontmen give each track an unmistakable authenticity and intensity. The musical diversions and sonic settings showcase a band that is not afraid to push beyond its limits and explore new sounds, without ever losing the essence of their vibrant rock.

“‘The Way To Rock’ is a celebration of life, the enthusiasm of a twenty-year-old who feels in music the energy to face the adversities of everyday life. The possibility of fighting sadness with something positive, choosing in rock not only a musical genre but a lifestyle.” adds the band.

Today, the band presents their second single “Moonlight Dreamers” featuring guest vocals from Caterina Minguzzi. The song is about two people who meet in a bar. Lost in their thoughts, they get to know each other. They spend the night together, and in the end, when they wake up, they wonder if something more than a mere flirtation will develop.

Last in Time is a project that was formed in 2021 as a studio band, intending to record original songs in the melodic and classic rock/AOR genre. Leading the project is Massimo Marchetti, the songwriter, producer, and arranger of the group’s songs.

The project has a diverse lineup (listed below), as it was managed as an All-star band, to ensure that each song had the right artistic touch. The ability to have multiple voices, including a female voice, greatly expanded the compositional proposal of the songs, allowing for a range of genres and nuances.

However, the group’s sound, while diverse, remains anchored to a common thread, which is a passion for classic rock in its various forms. The presence of experienced and motivated musicians made the album recording process a wonderful journey, which will continue with live sessions and the start of a true project focused on recording more albums in the future.

Recommended for fans of Toto, Whitesnake, Deep Purple, Symphony X, Trans Siberian Orchestra, and Savatage, Last In Time‘s debut album “Too Late” will be released on January 12, 2024.

About: Nova Spei is a francophone progressive metal band that was formed in 2012 by Dany Soucy (guitar) (Dook, Legion) and in 2014 Nicolas Dumais (bass) and Dany Duplessis (vocals) joined the lineup. Stéphane Filion (guitar) joined the band in August 2018 while Julien De Carufel (drums) arrived in August 2021. The band’s second album, “Sequentis” (released November 2021), was named in the top 10 of several media for the year 2021 and was nominated for Metal Album of the Year at the Alternative Music Gala Independent of Quebec (GAMIQ) for 2022.

On “Sequentis”, a groovy undertone meets progressive, catchy riffs, compiled with aggressive vocals belting out the French lyrics. It’s accessible, but edgy enough to suit a discerning metalhead. It is heavier than their 2017 debut self-titled album, but will still be familiar to their current fans. They have a wide range of influences that combine to result in memorable, heavy music.

Finnish metallers Decrowned will be releasing their brand of catchy and groovy melancholic metal with their first full-length “Persona Non Grata” this coming February 2024 from Rockshots Records. The album follows their two EPs “Hansel’s Nightmare” (2019) and debut “Weight of The Dark Sky” (2018), which garnered the “Newcomer of the Month” award from Finnish metal magazine Inferno.

Since its inception in 2017, Decrowned has been constantly evolving, progressing musically and its production both live and studio, especially with the aid of Tero “TeeCee” Kinnunen who has done a remarkable job of mixing the record. On “Persona Non Grata” fans will find a great number of variations, each song has its own identity but the themes of each are very relevant to one another.

“We hope the listeners will find their own personal ways to relate to the songs and also find the album interesting enough to keep finding new things and themes in it.” adds the band.

Every member brought something to the table for the album, but guitarists Jaakko Kauppinen (guitars) and Simo Puustinen composed most of the songs. Musically, the band takes a turn into heavier waters from its predecessors, still keeping in mind the essence of Decrowned. Lyrically “Persona Non Grata” is a very dark album, reflecting things that pass through the generations, consuming us from inside. It is a description of a haunted future and the past that took wrong turns on personal and universal levels. This undefined black matter that flows ignoring time and reason is the unwanted entity… Persona non grata.

The first single presented off “Persona Non Grata” is the track “Mouth Leaks Black”, which the band explains:

“Starting the album with a blast, “Mouth Leaks Black” is a song that we mostly just wanted to have fun with, it’s kind of playful but still serious enough with fun dark occult themes in play. Having an almost “punk rockish” theme in the chorus, some groovy riffing in the verse and maybe a bit of a chill mental trip on the later half of the song, this has become one of our favorites to perform live. This really gets us going on stage so we figured it’s the best way to get the album going, setting up the album with maybe a bit lighter tone than the rest of the album.”

Montreal, Canada’s avant-garde metal duo Disorientation returns to unleash their sophomore EP “Survival Mode” on December 1st to follow their 2021 self-titled debut. Presenting a much blunter and more straightforward record than its predecessor, the 16-minute, 3-track recording bends extreme metal, noise, and hardcore influences at its will pushing the envelope with unorthodox vocal lines, odd structures, with the accompaniment of dissonant oboe and English Horn arrangements to create a strong emotional reaction to reflect tactics for psychological survival in unpleasant situations.

The band adds:

“We are very excited to present Survival Mode to the public. This is another milestone for us to express our own unique sound and perspective in the context of metal music. We both have been busy with other projects, which explains the 2-year gap between Survival Mode and our self-titled EP. However, the drive to produce more music of our own has never disappeared during that time. We doubled down on the unique elements that set us apart. We also opted for a more straightforward sound with a mix that better reveals each instrument and voice. We think that this will express the power of those new songs more effectively.”

The overall theme of “Survival Mode” is about coping mechanisms, and the process of releasing this EP has been an exercise of survival for both Daniel Daris (Guitars, Bass) and Marie-Claude Fleury (Vocals, Oboe, English Horn, Drum Programming), who suffered losing loved ones during its recording. With “Survival Mode”, they aim to build real momentum and bring their atypical symphonic music to the live environment.

About: Disorientation is a DIY Dark Experimental Metal band from Montreal, Canada, created by Marie-Claude Fleury and Daniel Daris. While other symphonic acts portray beauty, wonder, and grace, Disorientation takes you down a path of troubling disarray, crippling misery, and severe anguish you can’t escape from.

The idea of the band had been floating around for a few years, with song fragments written here and there but it was at the beginning of 2020 that Marie-Claude and Dan really got serious and started establishing the foundation of their unpolished sound driven by oboe orchestral passages and vocals that are harsh, vulnerable and everything in between.

Disorientation strives to combine the abrasiveness of old death/thrash metal with the orchestral elements introduced by European bands in the late 90s/early 00s to create depressive music with simple riffs that go for emotion rather than technique. The band avoids predetermined chord progressions, verse-chorus-verse-chorus structures, and clean/distorted vocal dichotomies to create disconcerting, dissonant, and memorable songs.

On September 26th, 2021, Disorientation released their first 3-track EP. In spite of minimal promotion, Disorientation’s unique sound and approach were noticed. Metal Trenches called it “a perfect band name and title for this self-titled EP” while Turkey’s Metalperver wrote that it was “Interesting music, worth checking out.” The songs got airplay on Dark Metal Radio, Sewer Spewer, The Autopsy Report, No Name Radio, and Mtl Métal.

“Survival Mode” is the band’s second EP due out in December 2023. Those 3 new songs feature even more of the elements that set them apart: unorthodox vocal lines, odd structures, dissonant oboe arrangements, in-your-face discomfort, and distress. With this offering, Marie-Claude and Daniel intend to keep their momentum. They are currently assembling a lineup with the goal of playing Disorientation’s music live.

Canada’s Hatred Reigns is a convergence of masterful musicians, each with a rich and storied background in the music industry. They came together in 2015 and released their first EP “Realm I: Affliction” in 2018. They follow it up now with “Awaken The Ancients”, which weaves together the elements of old-school death metal with modern technical intricacies, creating a sonic tapestry that is both captivating and groundbreaking.

Looking over the release notes they compare their release to ‘Origin’, Suffocation, and Hideous Divinity, but I’m getting vibes of classic Thrash and Death Metal. Think early Sepultura, Gorefest and Carcass, especially with that DIY ethos those thrown in too. It enables them to keep their influences close to their heart and do exactly what they want to. Overall, it took me a few listens to the album to appreciate how good it is. TOP 5 STORY ANGLES/FUN FACTS

1. Marco Aromatario and Cesar Barajas took the time to craft and build a small yet very effective recording studio in Marco’s garage. This is where we recorded all our tracks and really spent a lot of time nailing every song.

2. Stages of Decomposition has constantly been touring and doing “one off” shows out of state and out of the country. Although it has taken the band a long time to get this second album out, Stages has always been active and supported by their fans worldwide.

3. Stages of Decomposition have been playing so many fests and shows that they wanted to start their own extreme underground metal fest in LA and then gave birth to the Los Angeles Extermination Fest which has been happening every year in LA since 2017.

4. Marco was originally in the brutal death metal band Exhumer from Italy but when he moved to Los Angeles, he kept Exhumer going with Sal on vocals but then eventually joined up with Stages as 2nd guitarist and helped complete the writing for Raptures of Psychopathy.

5. Stages has gone through it all. The ups, the downs, and the between, there were even moments where we felt like we just didn’t want to continue as a band anymore, but at the end of the day, we feel confident and proud of each other whenever we play shows because every one of us is absolutely crushing it and putting in their 100% effort to make this dream happen. We’re all brothers and our bond is way too strong to ever let this music go. Without each other, Stages cannot ever be the force that we are today.

Since their highly acclaimed debut album “Piles of Rotting Flesh”, Slamming Brutal LA Death Grind STAGES OF DECOMPOSITION have kept busy on the road. Since 2014, the band has performed at various festivals such as Bay Area Death Fest (Northern California), Bogota Grind Death Fest (Colombia), Philthadelphia Infest (Philadelphia, PA), SLAM FEST (Mexico City, Mexico), as well as toured the states coast to coast in under 10 days!

On February 2, 2024, they’ll be unleashing their sophomore full-length “Raptures of Psychopathy” from the label Gore House Productions. The record is a composition that is conceptualized by all things horror and will cater to fans of all things obscene and extreme. It offers a thought-provoking and alternative perspective into the deranged mind of a serial killer and explores the raptures of one’s Psychopathy.
