“…the album has this great, organic feel to it that persists the whole length of the album with a raw but organized sound to it that was just done extremely well. “Revelations, Aurora of An Epoch” is no doubt just the surface of the surface of the talent that Éohum has up their sleeves for future music because music like does not simply get spent on one album, and will not nine times out of ten.” – Metal Addicts
“The debut album from Canadian metallers Éohum is a fascinating proposition which manages to startle and surprise whilst simultaneously ticking every box on a personal want list from any weave of music. It is as if they instinctively knew what turned us on and explored those elements with relish. It is fair to say that Revelations, Aurora of An Epoch will not find the same level of reaction from everyone but it is hard to imagine many not breeding some kind of appetite for it and the band’s creative adventure.” – Ring Master Review
“A truly groundbreaking band, the first thing that comes to mind when I heard this disc. Have you seen or heard a French horn in a black metal band?” – Made In Metal
“a very extreme taste for the unusual” – Lords of Metal
“It’s definitely something new in the metal world… adventerous and new in a world where a lot of music sounds the same. It smashes the expectations of predictable…The whole album is new and unique and absolutely genius. I love the way the intensity and the sound slowly build up and then you’re full on into this great blackened doom metal album.” – Metal Head Blog
“their sound has a mildly addictive streak to it.” – Bucketlist Music Reviews
“Wikipedia in all of its might defines the French Horn as, “a brass instrument made of tubing more than 20 feet (6.1 m) long, wrapped into a coil with a flared bell.” I got the pleasure of marking something rather interesting off of my list of shit I’ve seen: a french horn in a Black Metal band. Thank you Eohum! (I think.) If you’re on the hunt for something that will make you go a wee bit cross-eyed, look no further than Eohum.” – Bucketlist Music Reviews
” Sheer talent is evident in this progressive blackened doom band. When they start playing a riff where they just click, it’s impressive, even uplifting. It’s no easy task to do that with the components of the bands: a blast beating drummer, tons of speedy, grim guitars, a thunderous vocalist who both screams and sings, samples, and…a fucking horn section? The…fuck…?…I have a feeling, though, that Éohum are onto something. Especially with their album art, which is the coolest I’ve seen in a long time.” – Gun Shy Assassin

Formed in 2010, Éohum (pronounced ee-o-um) is a traditionalist and spirit oriented band produced from the mind of guitarist Jeremy Perkins to create a relentless, anthemic groove -doom- tinged black metal to emphasize a message of the current humane state on earth and its lost voice.
Their debut release “Revelations, Aurora Of An Epoch” due out April 7th, 2015 features a collective of musicians that includes guest vocals from Matt McGachy (Cryptopsy) (Tracks 3-4-5-7), Lana Edwards (Intro & Outro), Phillippe Rieder (Track 6), Nick Wybo (ex-Vinyl Hero) on drums, Annie Perreault on French Horn/Trumpet, Sylvain Dumont on guitar, James Heymans on bass and Perkins himself on guitar plus a live line up that features drummer Simon Mackay (The Agonist) and vocalist Barrie Butler (ex : Tard).
“I like to have guests and friends from the scene on the album it gives a great touch and makes our stuff evolve and progress tremendously. The album should be received as fresh meat on the slab, especially with a French horn with groove doom low ends that makes the Éohum sound stand out.” says Perkins.
With so much talent from various backgrounds, Éohum blend the most gruesome with the cleanest of black and doom metal to create hypnotic riffs with seducing horns ready to be injected into the veins of metal fans.
“Musically ‘Revelations, Aurora Of An Epoch’ gives a great opportunity to taste a different aspect where you can chill out to a doom song and get up and swing your 4 foot long hair to our blackest riffs a second later in this relentless progression. Expect a groove and good sounding black metal without the new age tech-metal touches, we stick to the root, but with a better sound than black metal is usually attributed too and some doom to make your day.”
Lyrically the album is inspired by poems written by Perkins on the current state of humanity.
“Humanities undeniably greed-filled eco genocide and our culture led astray thousands of yrs ago, is what drives my writing. I’d like to remember our lost ancestors voices and awaken the enthusiasm to be active with community and reach out to others on a basic level, start again from within and replenish a vision our culture had, thus the reason for the band name speaks so loudly of us. We are on a dark path and we feed it with everything we consume and we are so far away from our hearts, we must not forget!”
Éohum is recommended for fans of Emperor, Immortal, Therion, Dimmu Borgir, Deicide, Neurosis, Behemoth.
Fun Fact About Band Name: Éohum means many Yew trees in old English, Yew tree is the Tree of Life for the English tribes of our past pre dating most of the Celt languages which blended Latin to their own afterward.
The E without the accent would mean many war horses, so that’s why there is an accent, not because it’s a French word.

Other bands interviewed are Sheffield’s black metal titans FORNEUS, the amazing ETHEREAL FOREST, and some truly sickening underground gems in the black and death metal world, GRIMACE and SIRHK. More great bands interviewed include… Canadian thrashers Mutank, the UK’s own crusty death dealers Winds of Genocide and my favourite doom band right now, Uncoffined. PLUS, a memorial for the departed stoner doomsters MOONLESS and a shed load of reviews…
I’ve also included a little scene report on some up and coming Norwegian black metal bands. Might be interesting.

All great things must come to an end! One of Montreal’s most iconic DIY metal bands, ENDAST have called it quits! Since their birth in 2004, the band’s career has spawned four albums (The Promise” EP (2005), “Odds Against Tomorrow” (2006), “Black Cloud” (2011), “Thrive” (2014), a DVD release “Where I Belong” (2012), 600,000kms for over 1300 gigs, countless tours across Canada and the USA that included festival appearances at HEAVY MTL & TO and not to mention the many notable bands ENDAST bled the stage with.
Before their end! ENDAST will be performing their last shows in the following cities, which includes their hometown of Montreal, QC.
April 17 – Montreal, QC – Foufounes Electriques
April 24 – Ajax, ON – Rotilicious
April 25 – Hamilton, ON – Absinthe
Vocalist Big James comments:
“Well, as these things so often go, the band was on shaky ground after the recent departure of our guitar player Pepe. His departure sparked a lot reflection and discussion on behalf of the remaining members in the band about where we are in our lives. Some of us have other goals outside of the band we’d like to accomplish. The amount of touring we do makes it prohibitive for some of us to accomplish those other goals and so a decision was made to close this chapter in our lives. We all care for each other a great deal and there are no hard feelings between any of us. Some of us will continue to make music together. All of us will continue to make music on some level or another.
We will be playing three final shows together. If we could, we would do one last full tour but unfortunately that isn’t in the cards. We are doing our hometown of Montreal, for obvious reasons. We are also hitting the town of Ajax, Ontario because we have a special relationship with that town and the intimate nature of the shows we play there will make it extremely memorable. Lastly, we will be ending it all in the city of Hamilton, Ontario…chosen not only because of our amazing history there, but also its geographical proximity to other towns we love so much. Hopefully some people will drive the 30-45 minutes from those other nearby towns to come party with us one last time.
Pepe has agreed to come back on board for these final shows and we will be playing material spanning the career of the band. We’re very excited to end things on a high note with everyone.”
Guitarist Chris Arsenian also comments:
“When I started this band over ten years ago the thought of how far it would take me or what we would accomplish never entered my mind. All I knew is that I had this undeniable urge to write and play music and share it with as many people as possible, a drive to constantly push forward and never look back. Trying to find the right group of guys that share that same feeling was no easy task. Over the years Endast has been lucky enough to have had some amazingly talented members. Some came and went and others stuck along for the ride. Now as this chapter comes to an end, I look at what we have accomplished as independent artists and it truly amazes me. I want to thank the guys in Endast for their hard work and devotion. Too all the fans, friends, sponsors and promoters: you all played an even bigger role in helping us accomplish these dreams. You fueled the fire. I want to thank you all for booking us all over North America, coming to our shows, buying our t-shirts and records, for supporting us through our best of times and our hardest of times. You helped make everything we wanted to do a possibility, and for that I can’t thank you all enough. Cheers everyone, to one hell of a decade.”
About:
ENDAST, translated from an Icelandic word meaning enduring, has become more than just a name for the Montreal based metal band. ENDAST has more accurately become a name synonymous with good people with a strong sense of community, bringing wicked, heavy music to people in as many places as possible.
With over 600,000 km on the road, ENDAST has toured heavily since their inception in 2004. Playing over 1300 shows in support of four independently released albums. “The Promise” EP [2005] and “Odds Against Tomorrow” [2006] helped make the band a staple in the Canadian metal scene. The full length album “Black Cloud” [2011] topped the iTunes (CA) 200 Top Metal Albums at #6, remaining charted for over 15 consecutive weeks. Their most recent album “Thrive” [2014] was produced by Bjorn ‘Speed’ Strid of Soilwork and Jon Howard of Threat Signal.
When asked what sub-genre of metal ENDAST fits into, guitarist and band founder Chris Arsenian is quick to set critics straight. “We’re a metal band, straight up. We play metal. End of story.” In a scene that is quick to pigeonhole a band with career ruining suffixes like ‘core’, ENDAST is looking to break free of sub-genres and incorporate elements from all walks of metal into their own unique blend. Every band is the sum of their influences, and ENDAST’s influences are vast in range.

About:
Canadian metal band ANNIHILATOR is the lifework of guitarist Jeff Waters. ANNIHILATOR is the biggest-selling Canadian heavy metal/thrash metal band in Canadian history with close to 3.5 million units sold.
Founded in 1984, the band took the metal scene by storm with their debut 1989 release “Alice In Hell”, upped the ante with 1990’s “Never, Neverland” and finished off their 3-record deal (Roadrunner Records/Sony/Epic) with “Set The World On Fire”.
While most late-80’s era metal bands disappeared, ANNIHILATOR went on to forge 11 more studio CDs, DVDs and live releases, all consistently selling well and remaining true to the heavy metal cause. Tours & shows with everyone from Judas Priest, Pantera, Rammstein, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Slayer, plus dozens of headlining tours and festivals around the world have been going on steady since 1989 for this band; no rest as the demand for this band never ends & the love of metal is in this bands’ blood. ANNIHILATOR is touted as one of the best live acts in metal music. High-end musicianship, tight playing and massive energy and fun are what these lads are known for.
Jeff’s guitar playing, songwriting and production skills have been a major influence on countless well-known metal acts and musicians around the world. In fact, countless, successful non-metal acts & musicians cite Waters and Co. as an influence in their careers. He has also been an important member of the Epiphone/Gibson family with his 2nd signature model flying V guitar coming this year, as well as being a staple on the European guitar clinic and music convention scene.
2013 saw the release of the best-selling and most critically acclaimed Annihilator CD in close to 18 years: FEAST. Touring this record took the band (as always) to Europe but also brought huge attendance to a few South American runs… After close to 2 years of touring, ANNIHILATOR are back live in the summer of 2015 to play the Euro-festival circuit, including a night-time slot on the Wacken stage; the 3rd time for the band. The new and 15th studio ANNIHILATOR cd should drop at end of July on UDR Records & the band have already booked a headline Europe tour from Sept. to Nov. 2015.
