Track by Track explained by the band:

Worthless:

-This song represents a person in your life that causes you undue stress and pressure. They constantly bring you down and are a negative force in your life. The catch phrase, “You smell like a bitch” is drawing attention to the cowardice in their actions and tells the story of their inability to help the situation and only serve to make it worse. Close listeners of this track will be able to piece together the story of how our relationship with previous members deteriorated.

In Waves:

This song is about the path becoming more clear to making things right again. Becoming focused on repairing an issue and rebuilding a cause. This song represents the sheer will of not allowing yourself to stay the victim but instead, taking massive action to improve. As the final lyric of the song states, “Shatter Paradigms”.

Burn:

A decent into madness. The song discusses the fall into the dark depths of hell while outlining mental illness. Listeners of this song can hear references to famous depictions of damnation from other literary worlds and even a very famous video game.

Morphine:

– On the surface, this song comes across as if being about addiction to the powerful pain medication. In reality, it represents the addiction to self loathing which can often manifest in drug addiction. The song touches about issues with personal demons and hatred for your own appearance which leads to depression.

3

Tenacity, work ethic and originality. There’s no excuses anymore.

Vancouver-based Without Mercy certainly stays true to its name. Ruthless and menacing, these Canadian metal titans have cultivated and redefined the phrase, “Fuck Pussy Metal”.

Founded in 2004, Without Mercy has gone from strength to strength over the years. They released their first EP “All Else Fails” in 2007 completely independently and used its humble beginnings to start the catapulting of performances, internet presence and radio play. In 2009, Without Mercy went on to record their self-titled full length album using the same team that worked on records by Devin Townsend, Mudvayne, and Marilyn Manson.  Without Mercy rode the attention wave of their self-titled debut, using the escalation to begin a relentless performance schedule that would lead them far from their hometown and include over 200 live performances.  No stranger to tenacity, in only a few short years Without Mercy have achieved; being the only indie metal band in Western Canada to have two tracks available on Rock Band 3, being featured in Tattoo Savage Magazine, and pioneering the phrases, ‘You Smell Like A Bitch’ and ‘Fuck Pussy Metal’ – which have now become synonymous with the band.

In 2014, Without Mercy unleashed third studio release, “Reborn”.  Another massive evolution for the band, Without Mercy sought to bring back the organic metal sound and combine it with a high production standard.  Fast forward to 2016, some line up changes with a new vocalist Alex Friis and bass tracks recorded by Tristan Martin and live performance being done by Ryan Loewen, the band is ready to share with fans re-recorded material from ‘Reborn’ on their new EP ‘Mouichido’ that even features Chimaira vocalist Mark Hunter on their track ‘In Waves’.

“‘Mouichido’ is the Japanese word for “Repeat” or “to do one more time”.  We chose this as the title to signify the re-release of a previous version of this record. After the release ‘Reborn’, we faced an issue with our vocalist, which caused us to part ways with him.  On the advice of our legal team, we recorded the album again with our current vocalist in an effort to terminate possible legal action.” says  Band founder and guitarist DJ Temple. “In addition to that, I hold hold close ties with Japanese culture so I thought it would be the perfect time to introduce those lines into our music.  Facing the incredible difficulty with the last record and the way the vocalist departed the band, the stress was compounded by the financial burden left with a record we couldn’t release.  By venturing back to some of my martial art roots, I found the strength to maintain my tenacity and get the record back on track.  The result, is “Mouichido”. Fans should receive this as the ultimate reason to never give up. Take the aggressive nature of the songs and allow the culture of the Japanese writing to envelop you in a way that will carry you through each track. Let this EP be the story that inspires you to push through something difficult and come out the other side a stronger and more experienced person.”

The EP is set to be unleashed on May 27th, 2016 and will be supported with a steady rotation of touring and appearances across Canada and the USA. All of course, independently.

“The Undivided have a knack for writing anthemic songs as big as the mountains that overshadow their hometown of Abergavenny” Kerrang!

“With the bands melodic anthems the future is looking bright for The Undivided”” – Big Cheese Magazine

“Don’t Panic. The Undivided are here to Save us!! Plugged In Magazine

“a reputation for creating anthemic songs and bringing them to life in an impressive live show…They are dynamic and have a knack for creating songs that fit well together, but also can hold their own separately.” – Mistree Magazine

“The Undivided, delivering an onslaught of post-hardcore goodness” Rock Sound Magazine

“Rhyd Mason is a master on the drums, making my jealousy glands ooze wanting to be that good, and secondly, this is exactly the kind of music I yearn for. Each of the 10 tracks on this CD has a unique feel, not unique when in comparison to other music, but each of the songs on the CD sounds noticeably different from the last, showing the diversity of the band. Thankfully, each of the variations of the songs is a blast to listen to. I’ve had to stop myself from toe tapping too loudly on the train and getting too into the guitar solos whilst walking down the street.” – The Sprout

The Undivided 2016 Triangle Hi Res

L-R – Lewis Bray (Guitarist), Joe Disson (Lead Vocals), Rhydian Mason (Drummer)

Driven by a desire to create the kind of noise people simply have to stand up and hear the most exciting- not to mention anthemic- rock act to emerge from South Wales in decades has arrived and not a moment too soon.

Inspired by the political, message-heavy words of fellow countrymen Manic Street Preachers, the instrumentation of Idlewild, and the penchant for melodic pop sensibilities evident in the likes of Mansun and Peace, The Undivided make music that’s impossible to ignore. Soaring guitar chords launch from atop punishing riffs, shuddering bass lines carry the rhythms forward, and sledgehammer drumbeats underpin this combination of harmony and electricity.

Hailing from the South Wales Valleys, the four piece (comprising lead guitarist and singer Joe Disson, percussive maestro Rhyd Mason and guitarist Lew Bray and joining in 2014 Bass guitarist Craig Prosser) formed circa 2010, born from the ashes of previous aural endeavours and built on the back of long-standing friendships. A successful meeting of minds, a period of incessant and relentless gigging followed, which saw them perform dates across the UK- including support slots for Ash, The Xcerts, Kids in Glass Houses, The Dirty Youth, IDivide  and Samoans – with praise coming from Kerrang!, Rock Sound, NME and XFM, to name but a few.

Before long the trio found themselves hauled up at a cottage in rural west Wales, rehearsing and writing a good chunk of the new LP safe in the knowledge there was no phone line, no mobile signal, no broadband, and nobody to complain about their 1AM jam sessions. Evidently something went right, with the Romesh Dodangoda-produced album (Kids in Glass Houses, Funeral For A Friend), This New Day, proof of that. Garnering support from the Welsh Arts Council (which gave funding for the production), BBC Radio1 Introducing, Nation Radio, Team Rock Radio and Big Cheese, the hype is almost as big as the main-room filling tunes on the record. Thankfully though, in this case it’s deserving, with The Undivided set to fulfil their ambition of breaking with the norm to deliver truly poignant, meaningful and moving songs through expert musicianship and devastatingly honest lyricism. The band secured a sync placement for the instrumental version of ‘Headlights’ from the previous album ‘This New Day’ on the opening and closing credits of BBC 4 Royal Institute Christmas lectures, screen on  29th, 30th and 31st December 2014.

The band showcased at the 2015 Canadian Music Week in Toronto, ON and received US and Canadian College radio airplay, which has already awarded them a CMJ radio distinction. They have recently written and produced their new EP ‘Satellites’ with Dan Weller (Sikth), which is set for release on May 5th, 2016 and to be debut at their second appearance at this year’s Canadian Music Week. The EP’s infectious first single / video ‘Invincible’ tells the story of organ donation compassionately from both sides of the giver and receiver.

“the vibrancy of Celestial Ruin’s music comes alive through the charisma and individual personalities of each musician in the band…the dynamism created was very infectious… one of the highlights of the night for me” – Sonic Cathedral

“A new unit on the Vancouver hard rock scene, this group played an impressive set at the recent Nerdfest at the Rickshaw theatre. With a sound most closely compared to female-fronted Northern European symphonic metal acts, the group is comprised of some quality players such as drummer Adam Todd and in lead singer Larissa Dawn. Rumoured to have been discovered singing in a karaoke bar, she has a impressive instrument indeed. From Evanescence-esque soaring pop stylings to more gospel-tinged lower range bluesiness. the band is well on its way with this well-produced four song EP which is getting attention on local and Canada-wide hard rock/metal websites.” – The Province (Vancouver)

“Celestial Ruin got the night started with their very Kamelot meets Nightwish with hints of Evanescence sound. The female fronted band definitely had a lot of confidence in what they do, and it showed in their music” – Hammer Records

“Hard rock with beautiful vocals and melodies, yet with a heavier, darker edge.” There is a lot of rock music in the Vancouver indie scene, but nothing like Celestial Ruin.” – Uncharted Music News

“Dark and moody, Celestial Ruin was a perfect closing act…Hints of euro-metal speckle this ominous prophetic rock band. An auditory augury, CR makes for the perfect soundtrack to march toward our doom” – Grinddown

“Larissa Dawn, who has a fine set of lungs within her…. In-fact the word “awesome” could be used several times here as there are some humdinger tracks like the rocking ‘Apocalypse’, the superb ‘Goddess’, the rather nice keyboard orientated ‘The Hunted’ and the atmospheric piano and string led ballad ‘Underground’, that closes the album rather nicely CD RATING 8.5/10” – Ravenheart music

“Celestial Ruin appears to be in a subgenre scene of one…their differences are working to their advantage.” – Beatroute

1) Murder of Crows

This song is about is about a women being trapped in her own life.  She is suffering from loss, depression and is on the verge of suicide. In the end she decides to hang herself from an old tree that has always been surrounded by crows. The main “vision” of the song is her slipping the rope around her neck and stepping off a large branch of the tree.

2) No Quarter

No Quarter is about the pirate legend Davy Jones. The song is sung from the perspective of another pirate who is facing off against him. Sailing into a battle that they know they cannot win. The end, resulting in a huge cannon fire battle that sinks the opposing ship and Davy Jones sails away with the souls of those who challenged him.

3) Sense of Exile

This song is about a couple. The male is suffering from sever depression and asks his girlfriend to help him commit suicide. She eventually agrees. However, he is now stuck between worlds being tormented by demons for killing himself and his girlfriend is being haunted by him and his suffering for helping him.

4) Nevermore

This song is about a girl who has been torn apart by her relationship. She knows he’s a liar, cheater and all they do is fight, yet she suffered through it and sticks with him. Until she feels it’s fully tearing her apart and she is no longer the person she used to be. She feels likes she’s living in a war zone and cannot break free from it. Screaming out loud with no one willing to listen.

5) Firestorm

Being captive in your own mind, having your dreams torn away and having no hope left to break free from the chains holding you down. Having the entire world against you and seeing your life go up in flames. Mental torment of losing the one thing you used to hold onto. Dying inside for a dream that will never come true or a person who will only destroy you.

Horror Photography

Canadian band CELESTIAL RUIN is styled after European Symphonic Rock/Metal but executed with a decidedly North American flavor. Combining a heavenly destruction of heavy riffs with beautiful melodies, CELESTIAL RUIN create catchy, singable melodies, and rich symphonic textures. The compositions are “epic” by all accounts. Lyrical themes are mainly drawn from fantasy and horror, sometimes implying deeper meanings, sometimes just celebrating the subject matter.

Based out of Vancouver, BC, CELESTIAL RUIN started taking the scene by storm with their debut album “The Awakening”. Receiving favorable reviews in publications such as Rockstar Weekly Magazine professing a 4/5 star rating declaring, “If The Awakening is only the beginning of things to come, you’d best get on board now while the getting’s good.”

After successful 2012 and 2013 summer tours, CELESTIAL RUIN was offered many opportunities that included opening slots with Stone Temple Pilots, Leaves Eyes, Moonspell and being a featured performer for Vancouver Alternative Fashion Week for two consecutive years.

CELESTIAL RUIN is always looking for the next unique avenue to expose their distinctive sound. “We play in the grey area of rock music, we are too heavy for rock, but not heavy enough for metal” comments vocalist Larissa Dawn.

This is a praise that has been mirrored in many live reviews including Beat Route Magazine stating, “Celestial Ruin appears to be in a sub-genre scene of one…their differences are working to their advantage”.

From September- December 2015 they completed a cross Canada tour (Out of Exile) and are now preparing for the release of their 2016 EP ‘Pandora’ produced by Joost Van Den Broek (Epica, Revamp, Xandria).

“As a significant jump forward from our debut album, from song writing to production, this EP was a journey that allowed to us grow, and we hope that fans will grow with us.” says Larissa Dawn.

A collaborative writing effort by CELESTIAL RUIN, the May 20th release of ‘Pandora’ will showcase the best of their best shared with fans new and old alike.

“The music on ‘Pandora’ is about unleashing chaos, beauty and all emotions into the world. It celebrates both the joy and the pain that emotions can create. The lyrics on this release come from a mix of personal experiences and fantasy elements. Most of the were written during a time when Larissa was going through recovery from a surgery and was unable to speak, sing and barely able to stand up. So the frustration, sadness, anger and fear she felt during her recovery created “Pandora”.” says drummer Adam Todd.
