Fall of Stasis hails from Montreal, Canada and they are releasing their first full-length on February 25th entitled “The Chronophagist”. The ten pounding tracks contained within showcase the wide range of influences behind the six musicians culminating in brutal symphonic music that coasts between the black metal and prog realms and is as unpredictable as it is cohesive. The first look at what’s in store on this album is the single “The Cult”.

Through “The Chronophagist”, Fall of Stasis brandishes fictive storytelling from start to finish, although the lyrics often symbolize modern social issues along with some of the band members’ personal experiences. The lyrics are based on the album’s concept as a whole, and the writing style is heavily inspired by some of the band’s favourite lyricists in the metal scene including Dani Filth, Michael Åkerfeldt, and Chuck Schuldiner.

“The Cult” is about a pagan cult that heavily indulges in psychoactive substances. The song starts with a syncopated section followed by a folky yet intense main riff solidified by fast and sustained blast beats. The band explains it in their own words:

“This song was probably the one that was written in the shortest amount of time. Tristan had written the main riff many years ago and we all liked it, so we decided to write a song based on it. We felt it was catchy and upbeat, but still dark and aggressive enough to catch the listener’s attention. We chose this song for our clip because it’s a short and well-rounded song that gives an accurate depiction of the sound we’re going for and the theme would easily translate into an interesting storyline for the video. The dark lyrics coupled with upbeat riffs make for an interesting contrast that brings the song to another level.”

Clocking in at almost 50 minutes, the symphonic death metal of “The Chronophagist” is recommended for fans of Finntroll, Fleshgod Apocalypse and The Black Dahlia Murder.

“The Cult” can be heard via its music video premiere on TheCirclePit – https://youtu.be/0xAXfd8Gthk

Digital – https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/fallofstasis/the-cult

“The Chronophagist” was produced by Chris Donaldson (Cryptopsy) along with album artwork by Roberto Napolitano and will be available on February 25, 2022.

About:
Fall Of Stasis, based in Montreal, Canada, was originally formed in 2014 with the intention of creating original music that couldn’t be defined by a specific genre. They started off with a very eclectic and progressive style, and as time went on, it was toned down in favour of musical cohesion and they added symphonic arrangements.

In 2017, the band released their demo and will be following it up in 2022 with the full-length “The Chronophagist”, which maneuvers closer to black metal but with definitive prog-heavy stylings. Working together on everything, there isn’t a single song where the creative input from a band member has not been blended into the mix. Fall of Stasis firmly believes that creative collaboration is one of their main strengths.

The current lineup of Fall of Stasis consists of Jessica Dupré (vocals), Gabriel Bernier (lead guitar/backing vocals), Tristan Bergeron-Boucher (rhythm guitar), Mathieu Groulx (bass), Sergei Lecours (drums) and Mélissa Bissonnette (keyboard). Each of the musicians brings a wide array of influences which results in a distinct sound, which caters to folk, black, progressive and death metal fans alike, but also to the uninitiated, thanks to their original and catchy melodies.

Symphonic yet brutal and often unpredictable, they present a mix of very powerful growls and clean vocals, along with good stage presence, efficient crowd work and tight musicianship. They have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with many notable local and international bands such as The Agonist, Wolfheart and Beyond Creation.

Many bands around the world have had difficulty gathering for a simple jam together, and when they do, it’s an epic reunion. Canada’s The Design Abstract captured this moment when they all were finally able to gather in a rehearsal room and have their first practice with their latest line up consisting of newest addition Logan Mayhem (Guitar, Synth) to join Matt Ngo (Guitar) and Voiicide (Vocals, Bass, Synth).

Today, the trio is sharing video of them performing “The Hybrid Awakening”.

“Track 3 off “Metemtechnosis” is what really sets the benchmark for the album: The same impressive riffs and leads as well as guitar and synth solos that you should expect, but with the emotionally impactful climax of the chorus, and the Meshuggah-esque breakdown sections. Lyrically, this track explains this new race of humanity is integrated with technology at a fundamental level, making humankind stronger, faster, and more versatile than ever.” adds the band.

Watch and listen “The Hybrid Awakening” – https://youtu.be/BfjT-o-daRM

The Design Abstract melds together narrative sci-fi with Gothenburg-esque melodic death metal, resulting in ambiguous concept albums that sound completely different from other artists in the genre. Their latest album “Metemtechnosis” continues the “Technotheism” (2021) storyline after an indeterminate amount of time in the universe. The band compares this new album to the last, and lets us know what’s coming next:

“Many people had many positive things to say about “Technotheism” upon its release, and we feel that “Metemtechnosis” is a worthy successor to it. Compositionally, we have refined many elements and parts of the processes, and from a technical standpoint, we have really stepped up a lot. Those who wanted to hear more of the killer guitar work will assuredly not be disappointed. “Metemtechnosis” also carries on the story of “Technotheism” in part two of what will be a trilogy. Everything that was present in “Technotheism” has been brought back in more compelling ways, and the performances are more on-point than ever before.”

Similar to “Technotheism”, the tracks were written as necessary to touch on the major story beats of the album; an overarching science-fiction story about a far future where technological advancement puts into question a lot of things taken for granted, like the definition of humanity, individuality, progress, and the line between all of these things. After the third album in the trilogy is released, The Design Abstract will move to a different fictional setting, but the music will continue to experiment with the elements they use in new and innovative ways.

All songs on “Metemtechnosis” were written and performed by Voiicide (vocals/bass/programming), Logan Mayhem (guitars/modular synthesis), and Matt Ngo (guitars). It was produced, mixed, and mastered by Voiicide at Abstrakted Records and the album artwork was done by Yuta Shimpo.

The Design Abstract has a sound that is distinctively theirs and is recommended for fans of Soilwork, Septicflesh, and Divine Disorder.

“Metemtechnosis” was released on October 29th, 2021 via Abstrakted Records and available on Design.bandcamp.com, Spotify, Apple Music.

About:
The Design Abstract is a 3-piece Symphonic Melodic Death Metal band from Kitchener-Waterloo, ON, Canada. The band focuses heavily on storytelling and worldbuilding with a futuristic and sci-fi narrative to each album they create. The Design Abstract formed in 2011 as a solo project under the name Design, and after many lineup changes, grew into a musical entity that presents a bold, epic, and even monolithic fusion of orchestra, synth, and melodic death metal. Sweeping symphonic passages, harsh industrial elements, highly proficient and memorable guitar work, and brutal guttural vocals mixed with soaring cleans are all blended in many ways to put forth a truly unique and powerful musical experience.

“Incorporating old school sci-fi visual elements with choppy electronics, catchy guitar parts and perfectly timed kick drums, this track (Parallel Projection) is a synth metal blast!” – Metal Injection

“A symphonic technical death metal masterpiece with an amazing concept to keep you engaged from start to finish \m/” – Heavy New York

“Now for some nerd shit. Technotheism is a concept record about the future that at it’s core is a melodic death metal record, but the band dabbles with electronic elements, technicality, and grand orchestrations throughout. Fans of Last Chance To Reason and really any band Mike Semesky (Ordinance, Raunchy, etc) has been a part of will probably dig this.” – Metal Injection

“This is a grandiose affair, full of musicality, technicality, and narrative. Thirteen tracks of symphonic melodic death metal that tells a cyberpunk story of a group of rebels fighting to regain control of Earth. It ranges from technical guitar work to atmospheric electronic passages, and just about everything in between.” – The Prog Space

“I love hearing something ambitious and genre-bending when a band can follow through on their vision. The Design Abstract is one such band, one that had an idea and put it together almost flawlessly… This album is every bit as diverse, colorful, and epic as I had hoped, and there are jaw-dropping moments galore. I absolutely love this record.” – The Prog Mind

“The Design Abstract goes for a big symphonic style in extreme metal, with a few twists and surprises along the way. Fans of the dystopian and/or futuristic sounds may find the album especially interesting. The Design Abstract is the symphony that remains after the alien zombies have taken over and this is the music that they want the world to hear to remind everyone that the zombies are horrible beings that enjoy tormenting the population with grandiose cacophony. When can the party begin, right?” – Metal Bulletin Zine

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 11, 2022

Rockshots Records – THE HUMAN TORNADO Unveil Next Single “Last Embrace”

New Album “Love Is Démodé” Out March 11, 2022

The fury of Italy’s THE HUMAN TORNADO will be unleashing their new album “Love Is Démodé” on March 11, 2022 via Rockshots Records.

Offering a slab of smashing knock-out heavy groove rock, The Human Tornado has been making shockwaves since forming in 2014 in Bologna, Italy. The band made their debut in 2016 with their first full-length “Storm In A Ketchup” on Hidden Stone Records along with supporting touring bands such as Twelve Foot Ninja, Destrage, and Crazy Town.

The Human Tornado‘s sophomore follow-up “Love Is Démodé” was self-produced by the band with mixing and mastering done by Marco Paradisi at Boat Studio. The album will feature ten hurricane tour de force tracks that will leave fans breathless and eager to set the track listing on repeat from beginning to end.

“Every song is played with heart and soul and we wanted to explore new sounds, but without forgetting our heavy rock imprint, so we produced an intense groovy album with more melodic openings.” adds the band.

The lyrical concept behind the album is love, one of the strongest feelings of deep affection. It has different aspects and it can be addressed to another person, an animal, or a passion. But, if it’s pure, this doesn’t matter.

The band explains further:

“For some years this feeling of love has been declining, going out of fashion. In fact, in our society finding people loving what they do is increasingly difficult and often image, power, success are the most important aspects of life. Moreover, these goals are more and more often achieved by means of questionable actions and negative feelings. In this album we want to express our idea of love in particular towards music, showing in every single song even the dark and negative sides coming from love in our life.”

Today, in preview to the album, the band is sharing their second single “Last Embrace” with a new visualizer.

“Sometimes we meet people literally turning our lives upside down. At first, we believe we have finally met the right person, our soulmate, but step by step we realize that our dignity is slowly crumbling. Then it’s hard to give up everything even when everybody tells us to do so. Absurdly, only extreme events can change our minds and give us the strength to make the right choice. This is the first song written during the composition of the new album that we chose as our second single for its heavy rock sound distinguishing our musical identity.” adds vocalist Roberto Montanari.

Toronto, Canada’s My Hollow has a new EP coming out entitled “Fighting The Monsters”, which they are anxious to release upon the world next year. Taking inspiration from modern death metal bands, they are continuously evolving and this next release from them is no exception.

My Hollow last released an album in 2015 and since then have grown exponentially, culminating into a 25 minute, five-track EP that is, by far, some of the heaviest music they have ever written, and to take it a step further, they have added keyboards for the first time on a recording. While this addition may alienate some of the more hard-headed and traditional metal listeners, others will see it as a welcome breath of fresh air. The band explains the album in their own words:

“We want to give listeners a hard-hitting product that keeps them wanting more. We really focused on bringing our new sound into this album but still worked to keep some old-school elements of what had been true to our sound in the past. In terms of overall listening experience, we hadn’t focused on the album as a whole as an experience, however, we take great pride in structuring our songs in an unconventional way that makes the individual songs more interesting and less formulaic. We hope that the listener can extract their own joy from each individual song.”

For My Hollow, the songs sometimes come together very easily as if they were writing themselves and other times, they need to be put together like a broken puzzle. The process is never the same as every song is unique. The lyrics are written after the music and for this EP, the main inspiration was drawn from battles, whether those battles be internal or as an outsider looking in. The main focus for each song was to have its struggle and perseverance, its own battle, and its own victory.

“Fighting The Monsters” was mixed and mastered by Tyler Williams at Monolithic Productions and the artwork was done by Jennifer White. It is recommended listening for fans of Chimaira, Gojira, and Lamb of God.

“Fighting The Monsters” is slated for release in Spring 2022 and a taste of what’s to come can be heard at the following teaser shared by the band – https://youtu.be/8w7QRvpntb4

About:
hollow: (1) a place or area that is lower than the area around it.
(2) an empty space inside of something.

The definitions of the word hollow describe My Hollow fittingly. With intense riffs and passages seamlessly giving way to lower, heavier parts in a lock-up, chunked out style with mutes leaving empty space in an otherwise chaotic sequence.

Based out of the Toronto area, My Hollow boasts a cast of independent metal journeymen, hungry to be heavier, tighter and more engaging with every song. Applying advice and drawing experience from performing alongside some of Canada’s biggest metal exports; The Agonist, Cryptopsy, Threat Signal, Beneath The Massacre among others. My Hollow as a whole can draw from a multitude of influences, not only from metal but from other genres as well, reflected in both their recorded releases as well as their live performance. Described by Danish webzine Power Of Metal as “five pissed off Canadians ready to tear my head off!” As well as “all the subtlety of a two-ton anvil slamming down on a set of pearly whites” by US based heavy metal blog, Heavy Metal Time Machine.

My Hollow has two official releases, 2012’s ‘Cold Dark Days EP’ featuring four demo versions of songs which were reworked and reimagined on 2014’s ‘On Borrowed Time’ full-length release featuring My Hollow’s most refined and focused work to date.

Like any band, My Hollow has had its highs and lows. Being selected as a finalist for the annual Wacken Metal Battle Canada 2013 solidified My Hollow as one of Toronto’s, as well as Canada’s top metal acts and announced themselves to a broader spectrum of listeners. Although narrowly missing out on a spot to perform in Germany at heavy metal’s premier festival the experience proved to strengthen the bands resolve and galvanize their confidence in the process.

While the band’s recorded releases give the listener an idea of what My Hollow is about, the live performance is where My Hollow truly shine. “With a crushing wave of energy, and sound, My Hollow filled the venue with their effervescent presence. The lads never disappoint on stage,” is how Toronto based metal publication Metal Master Kingdom described their experience.

With a new EP “Fighting The Monsters”, which includes guest vocals from Bjorn Strid (Soilwork) due out in 2022 and an ever-evolving sound and live performance, My Hollow strive to become an ever-present staple in the Canadian and global metal scene and will stop at nothing to leave you hollow, and wanting more.

2020 – iSolation (Single)
