LORDS OF THE TRIDENT announce their first quest of 2019 will be for “The Metal, Spikes, And Chicken-Fried Steak Tour” with A SOUND OF THUNDER. The tour is in support of LORDS OF THE TRIDENT‘s 7th studio album “Shadows From The Past” released this past August. Album stream can be heard on Bandcamp, Spotify, and Youtube.

Vocalist Fang VonWrathenstein comments:

“Your LORDS are prepping for battle – and our friends A Sound of Thunder are joining in the fray! We’re excited to escape the cold and bathe in the blood of our enemies in the South-East! Along the way we’ll be joining forces with other worthy bands such as Mega Colossus, Automaton, Siegelord, and more! Bar your doors, shutter your windows, and prepare for a metal pillaging unlike you’ve ever experienced before!”

Tour Dates:
Jan 17 – Cincinnati, OH – Urban Artifact *(LOTT only)
Jan 18 – Charlotte, NC – The Milestone – info

BIO:

Since climbing out of a volcano in 2008, shrouded in metal and ash, Lords of the Trident have gone to battle on many stages across the USA, playing and headlining a plethora of festivals and have an admirable arsenal of recordings in their inventory. The Lords of The Trident have released three full albums: “Death or Sandwich” (2009), “Chains on Fire” (2011), “Frostburn” (2015) , three EPs: “Plan of Attack” (2013), “A Very Lords of the Trident Christmas” (2014), “Re:Quests” (2015), and two live DVDs, along with numerous compilation singles.

Their live shows include medieval costumes, pyrotechnics, confetti cannons, guitars set ablaze, and of course, excellent technical musicianship that challenges the standard for how live music should be experienced. Citing influences such as Iron Maiden, Scar Symmetry and Judas Priest, and embracing lyrical themes inspired by great battles, conquests, dragon-fighting, virtual reality, and out-of-control robots Lords of the Trident dish out face-melting power that is enjoyed by fans of all races and classes.

“Overall this album keeps the fighting spirit alive and well!  The band is tight, the sound and production quality of the album is solid; The Lords Of The Trident is truly a band on the rise, and there is no question as to why.”- OVERDRIVE Music Magazine

“This is some solid power-metal, along the lines of Kamelot, complete with soaring, technical leads with just a dash of prog…I love me some gallops, and this track (Reaper’s Hourglass) is chock-full of them. Drummer Master “Herc” Hercule Schlagzeuger boasts impressive stamina, following the gallops on the guitar throughout the entire song while holding down solid snare and cymbal work.” – Gear Gods

“Shadows From The Past is a fun and well-executed power metal album.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“Lords of the Trident epitomize the spirit of USPM on “Death Dealer,” with fast and exciting riffs, strong tenor vocals, and a healthy dose of fantasy nerdery.” – Toilet ov Hell

“I think Lords Of The Trident could be a welcome addition to the European festival circuit, bringing fun and great music. This is a entertaining album, musically very enjoyable, lyrically funny and a good production. Time for Lords Of The Trident to sail the European shores.” – Lords of Metal

“Melody and harmony drive Lords of the Trident sonically – and this is prime US traditional metal for those who love the genre and want something new to treasure.” – Dead Rhetoric

“Lords Of The Trident has the uncanny ability to fuse both power and groove into their heavy metal. Bang your head, do windmills if you still have the hair to do so, or tap your toes, the Lords have their heavy metal rock groove going.” – Dangerdog Music Reviews

0 Metal Rules – Striker – Play To Win

  • December 4, 2018
  • by Asher
  • · Striker

Six albums in six years. That is something almost unheard of, even in the modern era of production that considerably lessens the time needed to record and mix albums. Striker always seems to provide a new album right around when I start to wonder, “Hey, I wonder what Striker is up to?”. PLAY TO WIN is the band’s 6th LP and to my ears, one of their best. Rest assured, the band has not altered their sound. This is still classic metal, mixed with modern elements that continues to leave all pretenders in a cloud of choking dust.

The latest blistering death metal entity Of Hatred Spawn have announced the release date for their self-titled debut album, which will be out worldwide December 21st, 2018 on Boonsdale Records. The band’s studio and live line-up consists of JJ Tartaglia (Skull Fist) on drums, his brother Remy Tartaglia on guitars, Oscar Rangel (ex-Annihilator) on bass and Matt “Coldcuts” Collacott on vocals. The project is the first-ever collaborative offering by the Tartaglia brothers and holds great promise and expectations within the metal community around the world.

The band delivers an old-school death metal sound in the vein of old Morbid Angel, Decapitated, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Ruination-era Job For A Cowboy, while staying true to the modern trends of today’s extreme metal. Super low-tuned guitars, guttural vocals, blast beat drumming, odd-time signatures, and tempo shifts create the atmosphere for Of Hatred Spawn’s demonic sound. The lyrical themes tell stories of plagues, slavery, darkness and the balance of evil.

Main songwriter Remy Tartaglia comments:

“The music is very aggressive and the lyrics are written from an evil standpoint, from the perspective of a demonic entity or being.  This is an exercise in creative theatricality which provides depth to the art form.  My aim is to immerse the listener into the sound and story of the songs, like a good book movie or video game. Some may also find the sound and themes to be empowering providing strength and comfort during consumption.  The music has this effect on me and it is my intention to covey this feeling, to have listeners feed off the music’s aggression in a positive way.”

Watch Remy Tartaglia shred in the band’s latest guitar playthrough for their single “Severed Limb Convulsion”.

NEWS RELEASE

Drawing their inspiration from a wide variety of genres, OMINOUS ECLIPSE is a brutal quartet that create a unique hybrid sound with death metal being the main aspect combined with elements of thrash, groove, black, melodic, etc. Unleashing their sophomore album “Sinister” this past September, the band have put together a new lyric video for their track “Breaking The Chains” premiered on Bravewords.com.

Watch it now at the following link: http://bravewords.com/news/exclusive-ominous-eclipse-premieres-breaking-the-chains-lyric-video

For those in the Ottawa area, OMINOUS ECLIPSE will be performing on December 11th opening for The Faceless, Rings of Saturn, Vales of Pnath and more at Mavericks. Full details here.

“Sinister” is now streaming at the following link: https://youtu.be/PWKEeTguj-w

Plus available on Bandcamp, iTunes, Amazon, Google Play and Spotify.

Music Video – “Sinister” – https://youtu.be/ZkCr2u_wHfs

The band comments:

“There’s no concept or theme on this album so all the songs have different meaning. The title track itself divulges into the inevitable end to humanity and potentially the world with it. It discusses the issues around the globe and also addresses the ignorance and selfishness of those indirectly affected by the chaos. It has a strong “United We Stand, Divided We Fall” theme in regards to how people can turn their backs on those in need in order to save their own skin, which ironically will lead to our end as it causes people to turn on each other. Musically for this album, you will notice we have evolved from the first release and have moved away from thrashy overtones to become more diverse including more heavily stated melodic and technical with a solid groove and death foundation.”

“Sinister” follows their 2015 debut full length “End Of Days” and EP “Beyond The Apocalypse” released that same year. Active since 2014, OMINOUS ECLIPSE is a very ambitious band passionate about writing and playing extreme music. They have already shared the stage with the likes of Revocation, The Agonist, Kalmah, Archspire, Incantation, Vesperia, Beyond Creation, Rivers of Nihil to name a few.

“Their new song “Spiral Into Insanity” has a strong death metal foundation, including very melodic leads, but there’s more than enough groovy thrash inspiration and even a hint of black metal there. ” – Decibel Magazine

“a game changing release for Ominous Eclipse that places them center stage for my pick of the best Canadian Metal release this year….Every track stands strongly on its own, thanks to the band’s immense talent and flawless production. Ominous Eclipse is a band that carries the banner for the N.W.O.C.D.M. with pride and distinction. Out September 14th on all streaming platforms, I would recommend Sinister to fans of Death, Iron Maiden, Infernal Majesty and Gojira.” – Hellbound

“Demonstrating their ability to blend genres within metal to create a compelling album, this is an impressive sophomore delivery. Each track brings something different and feels refreshing even after multiple listens.” – Splice Magazine

“‘Sinister’ is a high-energy track launched by heartless riff jabs, ear-scouring string squeals, and neck-snapping drumwork. The vocals come for your throat, too, in an effusion of heartless roars and face-scraping shrieks, and the song is accented by flurries of spidery, darting fretwork and by a pair of flashy, fluid, but demented solos. It becomes a thrashing gallop, but without becoming any less venomous in its delivery.” – No Clean Singing

“The crowd was stellar at Mavericks, where each of the four bands were well represented by their fan bases. Opening on the night were Ominous Eclipse, whose chunky, frantic thrash metal din was led by their howling frontman. Largely drawing from their 2015 album End of Days, the four-piece pounded through six songs, tackling tracks like “Pestilence,” Abandoned” and the album’s particularly solid title track. Helping to limber the crowd for the chaos to come, they called for a “wall of death” in the confines of the club and the fans delivered, clearing the centre of the floor before the opposing sides barrelled into one another, bodies flying everywhere.” – Exclaim! (Live Review opening for Kalmah April 2016)

Authentic Canadian ultimate death metal. Of Hatred Spawn was formed in 2017 by brothers Remy Tartaglia (previously from Unbidden) and JJ Tartaglia (Skull Fist, Operus, Final Trigger). The project is the first-ever collaborative offering by the brothers and holds great promise and expectations within the metal community around the world. The band also features Oscar Rangel on bass (Ex-Annihilator), and Matt “Coldcuts” Collacott on vocals.

Remy Tartaglia elaborates:

“On our debut you will find are songs that I had written and refined for years however the project had almost been forgotten. Let’s just say I was on a different path in life and music didn’t seem to be in the cards, until my brother JJ made me realize that these songs were meant to be recorded.  This album should exist, therefore it does. You’ll find the music is very aggressive and the lyrics are written from an evil standpoint, from the perspective of a demonic entity or being.  This is an exercise in creative theatricality, which provides depth to the art form.  My aim is to immerse the listener into the sound and story of the songs, like a good book movie or video game.

Overall, the songs and lyrical themes of this album take place and exist within the alternate universe created by author Robert E. Howard creator of Conan the Barbarian.  The lyrics are inspired by this fictional world because it bears similarities to our own. Also, when JJ and I were children our father showed us the original Conan the Barbarian movies, in the first film there is a scene where Conan’s father explains to him as a boy the riddle of steel and shows him a sword. I have always felt that the riddle of steel and the sword applied to me as metal and the guitar, so this album is also inspired by my father who when I was young told me the riddle of steel and showed me the sword.”

Of Hatred Spawn’s self-titled album will be available from Boonsdale Records on December 21st, 2018.

Vancouver’s KOSM Posts Cover Video of Gojira’s “Ocean Planet”

Out Now! H.P. Lovecraft Inspired Album “Cosmonaut”

Vancouver progressive metal band KOSM‘s sound is dynamic and unquestionably lethal. Since their induction in 2016, part of making a name for themselves on their local scene in Vancouver and beyond, has been putting together cover videos of some of their favourite bands such as Mastodon, Queens of The Stone Age, System of A Down, Halestorm, Plini and many more. Now the quintet is paying their respects to one of their influences Gojira by covering their track “Ocean Planet”.

“We chose Gojira because they’ve been one of our prominent inspirations for the band! Our bassist actually kept heckling us to cover ‘Ocean Planet’ and eventually we caved and took the song on. It was intimidating to undertake a band as powerful as Gojira, but we hoped to have done it justice!” says guitarist Erik Leonhard.

Watch KOSM cover Gojira‘s “Ocean Planet” at the following link:

KOSM recently unleashed their debut “Cosmonaut”, an album loosely based on themes from stories by H.P. Lovecraft and others.

The band adds:

“Cosmonaut is a concept album loosely based on the weird-fiction of HP Lovecraft, and borrowing concepts from the science-fiction of Frank Herbert, and Roger Zelazny. The album follows a cosmonaut on a cosmic journey through time and space; from the earthly confines of mortal life, to ascendancy as an immaterial and omnipotent being. The cosmonaut’s journey is essentially symbolic, serving as a commentary on the human experience: a journey from confusion and anger, to transcendence and self-understanding.”

“Cosmonaut” is available on all major digital platforms Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play.

“Vancouver’s KOSM kick the door in with Cosmonaut, their monstrous full-length debut. Brace yourself for a satisfying trip through an exciting mountain range of cascading, meaty riffs, swelling rises and heady drops, all led by the powerful, soaring vocals of the dynamic Jessie Grace. ” – Beatroute BC

“KOSM cite Tool, Gojira and Mastodon as three of their main influences, and all three can be heard loud and clear on their new album, Cosmonaut. The technical, progressive musicianship of Tool meets the crushing grooves and rhythmic vocals of Gojira, and Mastodon’s ear for riffy, thunderous prog are all present on Cosmonaut, which features some of the most technical metal I’ve heard this year outside of, you know, technical death metal. ” – Decibel Magazine

“The song (Ancient Heart) itself, which swings between some appetizingly heavy progressive riffs and aggressive growls and more melodic moments (with clean singing behind them). A tough band to place in that regard, but one certainly worth seeking out as they continue to expand their sound.” – DeadRhetoric
“KOSM does a solid job of mixing technicality, mood and groove.  They have all sorts of dual guitar sections, and very psychedelic and moody parts on “Cosmonaut” as well.  They’re a well versed band with all kinds of moods and changes engaging your ears every split second. ” – Technical Music Review

“KOSM definitely show enough potential with this release to be a band that should be on your scopes.” – Noizze UK

” Kosm’s Cosmonaut isn’t bland: it’s the pleasing sound of a band following their own inner vision.” 9/10 – Hellbound
