METALOCALYPSTICK FEST, the Western Canadian festival that just doesn’t celebrate heavy metal, but embraces the power of women in metal are offering a FREE digital sampler “Metal Queens Vol. 2” in promotion of their 2018 line up, which features bands from across Canada and beyond with Cabrakaan (Mexico), Obsidian (Vancouver, BC), Siren’s Rain (Puget Sound, WA), DelDesierto (Mexico), KOSM (Vancouver, BC), Anarcheon (Vancouver, BC) and many more!

This year’s line-up is being hosted in Lone Butte, BC at the Lone Butte Community Center during Canada Day weekend June 30th and July 1st.

“This year’s fest is an exciting one; we have back some festival alumni and some rad new ones from all over North America! We also have a few fun additions between sets. With the location still set in beautiful Lone Butte I ask you… What’s more metal than partying on a volcano? You’ll want to make it out for our 3rd annual female powered metal fest!”

In addition to the festival celebrating women in metal, METALOCALYPSTICK FEST gives back to the community by being a non-profit organization dedicated to raise funds and donating 100% of proceeds to local charities Girls Rock Camp, Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter, Earth Protectors plus sponsoring an independent band picked by Metalocalypstick Fest judges.

About:

Formed in 2016 with the beautiful backdrop of the Canadian Rockies, METALOCALYSPTICK was created to present a unique experience within the Western Canadian metal community, a gathering of similar views, aspirations and musical taste. (similar to former mainstream music festival Lilith Fair.)

The festival was founded by Kaija Kinney of Vancouver’s Anarcheon after researching a lack of female based metal festivals to apply her band to, Kinney took matters into in her own and decided to produce the event.

“This festival means the celebration of both sexes coming together and creating something amazing. People like to say women in metal aren’t a big deal anymore and that we are all the same. I feel that is untrue, this is still a male dominated world and woman are still looked as lesser. I want to showcase all these bad ass ladies and celebrate the differences of men and woman rather than pretend we are all equal. Truth is we are different why can’t we celebrate that?” says Kinney.

Previous Metalocalypstick festivals hosted female influenced metal bands from across Canada and the world such as Brazil’s Nervosa (Napalm Records), Egypt’s Massive Scar Era, Cabrakaan (Toluca, Mexico), Hollywood’s The Maension, Valfreya, Scythia, Mortillery (Napalm Records), Van Halst, Dead Asylum, Juliet Ruin, Violent Betty, Omega Crom, Körperlose Stimme, Elysium Echoes, Solborn, Monarch Sky, Forsaken Rite, Anarcheon, Suspended, Sovereign Council, and Atmora.

Unleashing their eighth and latest release “Daño Colateral” digitally this past April, Mexican thrashers CENTAURO announce they will be making the new album available on CD as of June 30, 2018 through Bandcamp and distributor Ablaze Productions. This is CENTAURO‘s third full-length adding to their existing repertoire of well worked classic thrash intertwined with hearty samples of elements from several metal sub-genres, most notably black and death, resulting in a recognizable, deep and unique sound.

“Daño Colateral” is a concept album focused on the turbulent story of a person that was born into awful situations and throughout their life, continues to experience numerous setbacks even through effort and good will; a subjective message to decadence of society and modern system thoughts.

Drummer Mario Rivera further explains:

“The album is a story about a person that has been born from rape, that’s why this newborn is unwanted; So he and his brother work their way through the struggles of life until his brother dies. He gets angry with life and his resentment burns until he gets into prison for vandalism. In prison, he learns how to be a real criminal, and when he is released, he begins a path of violent crimes and killing until his madness makes him commit suicide.”

The band purposely takes the listener through torrid moments to create atmospheres of deep anxiety, fear, anger, joy and depression. It’s a journey through emotions that evolve from one to another. This intense story that can be both heart wrenching and uplifting can be heard in full stream and downloaded on Spotify, Bandcamp, Amazon, iTunes, and Google Play.

BIO:

In the heat of the summer of 2009, Mexican thrash metal band Centauro was born. Hailing from Culiacán, Sinaloa, they took their name from famous Mexican revolutionary fighter Doroteo Arango (Pancho Villa) a.k.a. “El Centauro del Norte”.

Mario Rivera (drums) delves into the origin of the band’s name,“We were kind of tired of a majority bands in our country having names mainly in English with some of them not even translating correctly. Coming from Mexico we really wanted our band’s name in our mother tongue to represent our culture and history. We wanted truly Mexican inspired metal, not everything to be about Vikings, runes, occultism and demons.”

Focusing on creating original trash infused metal they have found recognition both locally and abroad. Over the course of nine years they have unleashed eight releases, 2 EPS (Enraizados – 2010, Oligarquía – 2014), a demo (Vía Agresión – 2011) and 3 full lengths (Devastación Total – 2013, Ciénagas Del Engaño – 2015, Daño Colateral – 2018). Their sound is well worked classic thrash intertwined with a hearty sample of elements from several metal subgenres, most notably, black and death, creating a recognizable, deep and unique sound.

Staying true to their roots, they write lyrics exclusively in Spanish broaching themes including politics, religion, lust, laziness, misery, death, joy and criticism of society. This fresh take on thrash metal can be described as aggressive, melodic, and unique. The band brings a contagious energy to the stage putting emphasis on having fun and interacting with the crowd while playing quality music.

Centauro’s latest album “Daño Colateral” was released digitally April 21, 2018 on Spotify, Bandcamp, Amazon, iTunes, Google Play and will be available on CD as June 30, 2018.
