Vancouver, BC’s progressive tech death metallers NECK OF THE WOODS have issued an update of North American tour dates in support of their debut album “The Passenger” released last September via Basick Records. The debut album was recorded at Rain City Recorders and produced by Stu McKillop and the band, with art direction by vocalist Jeff Radomsky and layout design by Kevin Moore at Soft Surrogate. The nine-track offering truly captures the band’s crushing blend of progressive, death-inspired, technical, and groove-laden metal.

Guitarist Dave Carr comments:

“We can’t wait to hit the road and make some new friends. Being from Ontario myself, I’m personally very excited to bring this band back to where I grew up and play the circuit. This is a huge opportunity to get our music out to a whole new fan base, especially with the US dates. We’re ready to hit the road and show everyone what NOTW is all about!”

Vocalist Jeff Radomsky adds:

“We’re all looking forward to playing for a ton of new audiences across Canada and the Eastern U.S.. We’ll be branching into so many new areas, most of which I’ve never traveled to! Save the date, this tour will be one you won’t forget!”

Unrelenting in their live performances, NECK OF THE WOODS have quickly earned themselves a reputation as one of the most exciting acts to emerge from Vancouver’s metal scene. Making appearances at multiple Canadian festivals (Loud As Hell, Sled Island, Armstrong Metal Fest, Calgary Metal Fest) along with supporting major touring acts such as CONVERGE, EVERY TIME I DIE, MISERY SIGNALS and more, NECK OF THE WOODS have established themselves as a high energy set not to be missed. Their sonic palette is one that is complex, dynamic, and progressive, continuously pounding away at the wall of death.

“The Passenger” is available digitally through Basick Records here and on physical CD through the band’s Bandcamp here.

“This is an assured slab of stylish and progressive extremity from an obscenely talented band with shitloads of potential..” – METAL HAMMER

“Progressive metal outfit Neck Of The Woods have combined deep grooves, technicality and progressive elements and merged them with death metal on their upcoming debut release, The Passenger.” – DECIBEL MAGAZINE

“Their influences come from all over the prog metal spectrum (and beyond), and as such there really is no way to get any more specific. You’ll be tempted to compare them to Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, Soilwork and even Every Time I Die… and then there’s the guitar solo, which some straight up, epic Zakk Wylde shit. And that’s just on this one track from an album of nine.” – METALSUCKS

“Citing bands such as Between The Buried and Me, Opeth, and Gojira amongst their primary influences, the nine tracks which make up The Passenger offer a riveting blend of big riffs, big grooves, and equally big hooks which should readily appeal to fans of similarly Prog/Death-inspired acts like Iron Thrones (RIP) and Black Crown Initiate.” – NO CLEAN SINGING

Discography:
2015 – Self Titled (LP)

The Cambridge English Dictionary describes the universe as ‘the whole system of created things.’ Well… Saskatchewan’s HARNESSING THE UNIVERSE are a band more than capable of living up to the infinite possibilities of their name, harnessing the power of the universe to create music of great spirit and originality. As the great Stephen Hawking memorably said, “Always look up at the stars not down at your feet!”

Inspired by Black Mountain, Stoned Jesus and Brant Bjork, the band’s sound is best described as “powerful, interesting, serious, spacious and epic!”.

Their upcoming album ‘In The After’ shows great progression from their 2015 self-titled debut.

“We are trying to bring the listener on a ride with us…Longer song lengths allow for peaks and valleys in the soundscape and the change in feel from upbeat to chill and back again in the course of the same track…We want to take the listener on a musical journey of epic highs and lows. It’s not party music! It’s something you put on when you’re thinking about life and you need a soundtrack to back up your thoughts.” says drummer Travis Weibel.

The band are psyched for fans to hear their new music.

“For true fans who can sink their teeth into it, they should really enjoy it. Lots to take in! The music will hit you in big waves if you are patient and hang on for the ride!”

In fact, HARNESSING THE UNIVERSE have created their own genre of music.

“We’ve evolved into better players. That’s caused our music to grow into larger than life songs… Meditation Music For Metalheads!”

Live is the natural environment of a proud jam band.

“You can expect the whole spectrum of sound. Expect five passionate artists who have spent their life honing their craft…for you! From ambient noise to a wall of sound that will blow you away!”

HARNESSING THE UNIVERSE’s debut album is available on  iTunes, Amazon and the HTU Online Store.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – March 23, 2018

For fans of At The Gates, Arch Enemy, Children of Bodom, Soilwork, Suicide Silence

PUREST OF PAIN Guitarist Merel Bechtold Unleashes The Shred via GearGods Playthrough “Vessels”

New Album “Solipsis” Out Now!

L-R – Frank van Leeuwen – Bass, J.D. Kaye - Vocals, Merel Bechtold – Guitars, Michael van Eck – Guitars, Joey de Boer – Drums

PUREST OF PAIN guitarist Merel Bechtold has teamed up with GearGods for her new guitar playthrough for “Vessels”, one of many tracks on the Dutch melodic death metal band’s recently released debut album “Solipsis”.

Check out the shredding at the following link: http://geargods.net/playthrough/purest-of-pain-brings-the-pain-in-vessels-guitar-playthrough/

Plus watch their music video for “Vessels” at https://youtu.be/z7KlBwjSLBM

“Solipsis”
was unleashed on March 1st to follow their 2013 single “Momentum” and 2011 EP “Revelations In Obscurity”. Combining Scandinavian metal influences with groove, ambiance, tone and melody, PUREST OF PAIN is a force to be reckoned with. The band features lead guitarist and main songwriter Merel Bechtold (DELAIN, MaYaN and The Gentle Storm, Anneke van Giersbergen) with bassist Frank van Leeuwen, vocalist J.D. Kaye, guitarist Michael van Eckis along with DELAIN drummer Joey de Boer recently joining their ranks.

“Solipsis” has been seven years in the making for the band, from the writing process up to the final mastering to launching a successful online crowd funding campaign on Indiegogo that raised over 18,000 Euros (thank you video here). In addition, over the years PUREST OF PAIN increased their recording funds through live performances, opening for such bands as Opeth, Textures, Suicide Silence, Unearth and Attack Attack! plus an unforgettable slot at Wacken in 2014.

“Solipsis” is 14 tracks of brutality blended with groove and emotion produced by Merel Bechtold with recording done at Mantis Audio Studio (Delain) and mastering by Jens Jorgen (Opeth, Arch Enemy, Soilwork).

Guitarist Merel Bechtold comments:

“‘Solipsis’ is a guitar oriented record, is has been recorded as organic as possible: partly at home, partly at Mantis Audio Studio. The song ‘E.M.D.R.’ is written by fellow guitarist Michael van Eck. All the other songs were summoned by myself. The lyrics are written by vocalist J.D. Kaye. And even though the music is at times technical and challenging, it’s undeniably driven by relentless groove, enhanced by hugely melodic passages, wonderful tone and moments of ambient clarity.”

“Solipsis” is now available on CD, Vinyl plus digital release on Big Cartel here, iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Spotify, Deezer.

The CD and Vinyl versions have slightly altered artwork. Merel Bechtold was responsible for its concept and bass player Frank van Leeuwen designed and finalized the covers.

“There are few surprises here on Solipsis, it’s solid & enjoyable melodic metal that provides memorable enough heavy riffs, nasty throat-scratching vocals & a melodic tone that is ear-pleasing.” – Games, Braaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Apart from the album as a whole, “The Solipsist” is indeed a guitar-oriented song, but one that definitely drives with relentless groove, moving in and out of passages anchored by pneumatic, jackhammering riffs and pummeling drum rhythms. This turbocharged track is further enhanced by bouts of jabbing chords and rumbling drum fills, and by J.D. Kaye’s bestial growls and nerve-abrading shrieks. But the song is also home to catchy hooks and  swirling melody. It’s guaranteed to get your blood rushing.” – No Clean Singing

“Wisely focusing on groove and melody above all, Solipsis captivates the listener with a more unique vibe than one might initially expect. It’s distinctly heavy, but the enticing guitarwork broadens the album’s appeal to a wider net than the usual death metal crowd, and is sure to burrow its way into your ears more with each listen. Purest of Pain has crafted an all-around pleasing debut that oozes an even greater potential moving forward.” – Dead Rhetoric

“The crispness of the drumming with the clear sound of the bass and the technicality of the guitars make for an impressive sound that is topped off by impressive abrasive vocals” – Rock n’ Load Mag

“This is an a 14 track album full of nonstop heavy metal with clean and unclean vocals. The guitar work is absolutely outstanding. This album is a must for any fan of  European metal, in fact it is a must for all metal fans.” – Baby Dolls And Razor Blades

“a great ride and a great album to listen to. I highly recommend picking this album up and giving it a listen. I think you will be pleasantly surprised and find you have purchased one hell of a good album.” Cascadia Fusion Music News

“Deeply impressed by this band.” – Rock Portaal
