Rockshots Records Announces North American Release of Prog Metal Guitarist DUSTIN BEHM’s “The Beyond” Jan 19th

Released this past November in Europe, Rockshots Records announces the North American release of progressive metal guitarist DUSTIN BEHM‘s debut solo album “The Beyond” on January 19th, 2018.Picking up the guitar at the age of 13 and attending the Guitar Institute of Technology at the Musician’s Institute in Los Angeles where he studied with world renowned guitarists such as Paul Gilbert, Scott Henderson, Greg Harrison and tapping master TJ Helmerich this offering from Behm features 13 shredding tracks.

After being snowed indoors for weeks at a time in one of the most extreme winters in Oregon history, Behm (guitarist for Portland’s instrumental progressive metal band INCREATE) was eager to create new music and began work on his dream of creating his first solo album. After writing and recording during the spring and summer of 2017, Behm‘s debut solo album “The Beyond” was complete. On the release, Behm plays guitar, E-Bow, bass, keys and programming as well as handling production duties and album layout.
“The Beyond” was inspired musically by early 90’s progressive death metal such as “Spheres” era Pestilence combined with modern metal influences Meshuggah, Allan Holdsworth and Chris Poland’s “Return to Metalopolis”. Other inspirations for this debut were Behm‘s simple love for classic horror movies, especially European horror of the 70’s and 80’s that can be seen in the album artwork, skillfully painted by Mark Cooper. The artwork represents figures from a series of nightmares Behm had as a child (of which Mark was unaware when he painted the piece).Album Stream – The Beyond

“The Beyond” is set to be release on January 19, 2018 via Rockshots Records.

About:

Dustin Behm’s guitar talents began at the age of 13, being inspired by guitarists such as James Murphy, Dimebag Darrell, Joe Satriani, Tak Matsumoto, and Al Di Meola. In 2005, Behm attended the Guitar Institute of Technology at Musician’s Institute in Los Angeles where he studied with world renowned guitarists such as Paul Gilbert, Scott Henderson, Greg Harrison and tapping master TJ Helmerich. There he discovered the music of his diverse main influences: Allan Holdsworth, Shawn Lane, and Meshuggah.

After his time at Musician’s Institute, Dustin returned to Portland and played with a variety of metal bands in the area, ranging from symphonic metal to death metal. In 2012, Dustin had his original music played on FM radio in Portland and even taught guitar lessons in Italy with his friend and fellow guitar shredder Gianluca Ferro.

Near the end of 2013, Behm helped form the instrumental progressive metal band Increate. Increate’s self-released, first album Void released to excellent reviews in February 2017. Void was produced in Sweden by legendary metal producer Jocke Skog. Dustin handled the album art and layout in addition to lead guitar.

Behm is currently writing material for a new Increate album and regularly playing live shows around the Northwestern United States. Dustin has shared the stage with artists such as Amorphis, Dark Tranquility, Archspire, Arkaik, Rhapsody of Fire, Inanimate Existence, Vale of Pnath, Oceano, I Declare War, The Kennedy Veil, and Disentomb among others.

Instrumental Prog Metal THE DEAD CENTURIES Premiere “Attack of The Mutant” via PureGrainAudio

Debut Album “Race Against Time” Out Jan 26th, 2018

L-R – Jacob McSheffrey – Guitar , Bryant McNamara – Drums, Adam Tremblett – Guitar (Photo Credit: Adrienne Row-Smith)

Visionary and highly influential writer Michael Moorcock, who worked with the bands Hawkwind and Blue Oyster Cult, memorably stated that ‘it is the business of the future to be dangerous’.

Ottawa three-piece THE DEAD CENTURIES are both futuristic and dangerous…which is as it should be. Influenced by Protest The Hero, Periphery, Paul Gilbert, Sithu Aye and Intervals, THE DEAD CENTURIES can easily hold their heads up in such exalted company.

Composing and performing technically precise instrumental progressive metal, THE DEAD CENTURIES are rich in virtuosity, melody, compositional skills, and most importantly…they create superb music to listen to. This isn’t the sound of three musicians showing off their undoubted skills, rather they are serving their songs above all else, with every fibre of their beings, every neuron firing in their minds, every tendon in their bodies. In a sense it is as if the three musicians that make up THE DEAD CENTURIES have become one mind in their own music.

Set to unleash their debut album “Race Against Time” on January 26th, 2018, the full length features ten tracks of melodic, high energy and refreshing material. Full of hook and sinker tracks, shining guitar riffs and overall escapades through their instrumental progressive metal has to offer.

Guitarist Adam Tremblett comments:

“The album title “Race Against Time” is loosely representative of the experience writing, recording, and preparing the collection of songs. Throughout the process there have been band member changes, last minute rewrites, and several other testing circumstances. These have only served to further determine The Dead Centuries to release a high quality release that truly represents the band as a whole.”

Teaming up with PureGrainAudio, the trio premiere their second single “Attack of The Mutant” that features a guest guitar solo from Jeff Tremblett, brother of TDC guitarist Adam Tremblett.

Adam Tremblett adds:

“’Attack of the Mutant’ is the heaviest song of the album thus far, using down tuned guitar and bass along with dissonant harmony to give the feeling of tension throughout the introduction. This tension is then resolved by a melodic, upbeat chorus which leads into another heavy section, followed by a guitar solo, and the album’s first guest solo. The song ends with several heavy parts, with the final section building into an extremely dissonant broken ‘computer’ sounding part.”

0 Jnuary 2018 – Legacy Mag – Decatur – Badder Than Brooklyn

  • January 3, 2018

  • · Decatur

www.legacy.de

translation

DECATUR “Badder Than Brooklyn” Genre: Groovy Thrash Metal DECATUR is a very young band from Toronto, Canada, that can now pass their first album “Badder Than Brooklyn”. Confidently they call themselves “Metal Messiahs” and pay close attention to their own integrity. DECATUR claim to be interested in other non-Metal genres such as Blues, Rock’n’Roll and Pop. Her very modest credo: “If it’s good, we can do it better.” Okay. DECATUR gambling hip Good-mood thrash metal, reasonably well played and entertaining – you could call this also “pretty cool”. No idea why DECATUR are so much cooler than average groove groups. It’s not just the hipster beards, but the facial hair seems to have some relevance in the men’s camp. After all, DECATUR refer to the second song, Into The Night ‘in the booklet as “Beard Song”. DECATUR act carefree, carefree and with a grin on the face. In addition, the guys have a feel for catchy arrangements. Quite surprisingly DECATUR also have some serious lyrics like in the opener ‘Internal War’, which, however, is chanted with the same good mood. DECATUR “Badder Than Brooklyn” ends with great taste, revisiting the opening ‘Internal War’ and crafting an almost progressive instrumental. You can refer to “Badder Than Brooklyn” via decaturmetal. bandcamp.com. (LS) 10 points.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 3, 2018

PureGrainAudio.com Announces Acquisition of BrokenAmp.com

Canadian based music authority PUREGRAINAUDIO.COM announces their acquisition of international rock and metal outlet BROKENAMP.COM. The merger will see Broken Amp staff cross over to PureGrainAudio growing the established site to an even stronger music source for news, reviews, interviews and exclusive features of today’s most known to underground artists. Over 14 staff members, which are about two thirds of Broken Amp‘s active staff will be joining the PureGrainAudio roster, growing their team to over 90+ contributors.

Broken Amp started in October 2014, and went through various iterations before it arrived at its final form – a website with accompanying podcast, focusing on heavy music in all its glorious forms. The site grew at a steady rate, taking on both talented new writers and grizzled veterans, all in the pursuit of one admirable goal – high quality music writing. Broken Amp amassed a respectable readership of their scribbles, and covered a wide range of continents and genres in search for the most interesting and best quality bands to write about. The former editing staff felt – and still feel – there is a dearth in this quality writing, and while Broken Amp itself is coming to a close, their passion and dedication has far from waned.

PureGrainAudio began in March of 2005 and has spent the past 12 years growing into Canada’s premiere source for all forms of Rock, Metal, Punk and Hardcore music. After a year of hard work developing a brand new website, PureGrainAudio re-launched in early 2017 and at that time also expanded into Indie/Folk/Acoustic, Hip-Hop/Rap, Electronic and even Pop Culture. Their goal, by the end of the year is to be Canada’s single biggest music news source.

Mark Angel Brandt (BA Founder and Owner, now PGA Co-Managing Editor, UK/EU) comments:

“The timing could not have been more serendipitous. Broken Amp feels like it has run its natural course, and this is the logical progression in bringing the talented team we have built to help grow a top-quality website. Jim and I are extremely excited to get to work in 2018, and take PureGrainAudio to new heights. Watch this space, we’ve got some great ideas germinating!”

James Parry-Smith (BA Assistant Manager, now Co-Managing Editor, UK/EU) comments:

“Mark’s vision for Broken Amp has always centred around quality in music journalism, so this is an exciting opportunity for us. We’re very much looking forward to becoming part of the PureGrainAudio family and combining our talented teams to provide the very best coverage. 2018 promises to be an exciting year for all of us and we’re already concocting some great ideas, so keep an eye out!”

Graham Finney (PureGrainAudio Vice President) comments:

“2018 was always going to be a massive year for PureGrainAudio but now, with the addition of the excellent team from Broken Amp, the opportunity to take the site into new areas is mind-blowing!”

The sign of a truly special band is that they transcend their own influences to create their own unique sound. Druid Metal!

Such a band is Unshine!

Inspired by artists as diverse as Enslaved, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Tangerine Dream and Iron Maiden, guitarist Harri describes their sound as ‘Finnish druid and folk metal’.

As guitarist Harri says proudly. “Unshine has always been a band without the traditional role models. For us, the most important thing in a song is the melody. Sounds and rhythms create the overall atmosphere, but the melody makes the whole ancient story in it come to life.”

Nature is the true influence on Unshine’s music. Their alpha and omega. Their beginning and end. The modern world may have almost forgotten the ancient ways, but Unshine keep them alive in words and music. “The songs try to reunite the old bonds between the dolmen gods and digitised mankind. Nature is not our enemy, it’s our physical and especially spiritual home.”

This is not surprising when one realises that all five members of Unshine, friends for many years, were all raised in the countryside villages of Western Finland.

With a long history of recording and playing behind them, Unshine are super-stoked about the released of their new album ‘Astrala’, which is inspired by the “invisible side of the Earth. The first five album songs address the manifestations of Astrala and the last five songs describe travels to Astrala. The album has a touch of Nordic melancholy written all over it, also in the lyrics, and it includes music meant to create landscapes and themes from folk stories, mythology and nature religions, but also to present personal views describing the spiritual meaning of a forest as a cultural concept. The binding theme here is forest, although this is not a theme album.”

Mexico’s Blackened Death Metal EVILHEART Part Ways With Guitarist Adrian Urias

“Quinquaginta” Out Now via Test Your Metal Records

L to R: Alejandro Monroy – Bass, Adrián Urías – Guitar, Adam Benito – Vocals, Rodolfo Rogers – Drums

Mexican blackened death metallers EVILHEART announce the departure of long time guitarist Adrian Urias.

Drummer Rodolfo Rogers comments:

“After 13 years working together, Evilheart and guitarist Adrian Urias will take different paths. We will continue to work in our next album and we wish Adrian the best for his future endeavors. A new guitarist will be announced at a later time.”

EVILHEART‘s latest album ‘Quinquaginta’ was re-released in 2015 on Vancouver, BC based Test Your Metal Records. The band is currently working on their follow up.EVILHEART completed their second Canadian tour this past October, which featured new vocalist Adam ‘Greasy’ Benito of Calgary’s Train Bigger Monkeys.

Formed in 1999 in Culiacán, Sinaloa in Northwest México as a melodic black metal band, EVILHEART released their demo “Summoned To War” in 2001 later followed by their debut album “Dark In Glory” in 2014. That debut shifted the band’s sound to a more black death metal direction, giving them a foothold in the Mexican metal scene and pushing them forward to share the stage with international acts such as Behemoth, Dimmu Borgir, Deicide, Amon Amarth and others.

By 2007, EVILHEART released “Storm Of Annihilation”, an album that lead them to play their first overseas shows in Europe in 2011.

In 2014, EVILHEART released their most challenging work “Quinquaginta”, which combined the melodic elements of “Dark In Glory” with the brutality of “Storm Of Annihilation” plus a lethal dose of speed. In 2015, upon signing a deal with Vancouver’s Test Your Metal Records, the band embarked on their first Canadian Tour from coast-to-coast in support of the “Quinquaginta” re-release. The tour had some difficulties as two members had their visa applications denied, but in the end, the tour was a double-win as the band had a great response from the crowd and session singer Adam Benito from Calgary became a full-time member.

“Hickory, NC’s Rapheumets Well(pronounced Ra-few-mets) is a band heavily steeped in science fiction and fantasy. And when I say heavily, I mean HEAVILY. They slam dunk their lushly orchestral and luxurious symphonic melodic blackened death metal into a fantastical and fantastically creative and complex world that I don’t even want to embarrass myself trying to explain. But, you gotta give mad ol’ props to any band willing to dive head first into something as elaborately conceptual as this costumed and inventive septet have from the off.” – Decibel Magazine

“The best symphonic metal albums understand the balance between the synths and the rest of the band, and Enders Door possesses that necessary element. Enders Door can also take you on a journey, offering a fantastic trip into unknown lands, which helps keep you on your toes. Most importantly, it lives up to the potential hinted at with The Exile, and should be an easy sell for fans of this style.” – Dead Rhetoric

“The sense of epic that exists throughout Enders Door hits instantly with its mix of heavy riffs, death metal vocals, classical orchestrations & synth effects.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“As you’re about to find out, this first song from the new album combines turbocharged death metal vehemence with sweeping orchestral melodies, interweaving blazing drumwork and rapid-fire riffing with cosmic synthesizer vistas and fluid soloing, vicious growls and hair-raising shrieks with a vaulting clean-sung passage that coincides with the protagonist’s decision to end his apathy.” – No Clean Singing

“this album is chock-full of powerful, aggressive and moving sounds that show the diversity and complexity of the Symphonic Metal genre.” – 925 Rebellion

“Enders Door – a humongous piece of synth driven, border line operatic, epic death/black metal…. To sum this album up, it is necessary to underline two things: Enders Door is massive, balls to the wall, in a sense very American in the old-school sense of bigger-better. It does not let up for a moment. It is also, for all its dramatic, heavy and violent darkness somehow rather filled with joy. For something so complex and bulked-up, there is a real sense of fun emanating from every track. Whether delivering rabid tech-death riffs over hyper fast blast beats, or introducing female vocals over multiple layers of synthesizers, strings and double kick drums, Rapheumets Well keeps it intense and inspired.” – Archaic Triad
