“a great ride and a great album to listen to. I highly recommend picking this album up and giving it a listen. I think you will be pleasantly surprised and find you have purchased one hell of a good album.” Cascadia Fusion Music News
“Deeply impressed by this band.” – Rock Portaal
“Do not let the youthful appearance of PUREST OF PAIN fool you is the first thing to notice about this band. After a short intro, PUREST OF PAIN kicks off this metal evening with ‘The sickening reality’ from their debut EP ‘Revelations of Obscurity’. Blasting drums, raging guitars and roaring grunts characterize their music… fans of death metal should keep their ears and eyes open for PUREST OF PAIN in the future!” Reflections of Darkness (Live Review 2012)

Dutch melodic death metal band Purest of Pain took seven years to create their debut album “Solipsis”. From the first creative kernel of guitarist, main songwriter, and founder, Merel Bechtold (guitarist of Delain, MaYaN and The Gentle Storm/Anneke van Giersbergen), putting the band together to the final mastering of what, by any standards, is an incredibly accomplished debut album; a merciless statement of intent. Make no mistake; the metal world is theirs for the taking.
Purest of Pain have supported bands like Opeth, Suicide Silence, Unearth and Textures, and were representatives for Holland during the Metal Battle at Wacken Open Air 2014.
Self-produced by Merel, “Solipsis” was mastered by Jens Borgen who has worked with legends like Soilwork, Arch Enemy, and Opeth. As Jens comments proudly.
“You guys have managed to blend brutality with groove and emotion in a great way.”
Influenced by melodic death metal, deathcore and black metal, Merel describes their sound as ‘groovy melodic ambient modern metal.”
Merel Bechtold is stoked for fans to hear “Solipsis”.
“It’s a high-quality refreshing album with a mix between old school and modern metal.”
Singer J.D. Kaye explains the meaning of the album title ‘Solipsis’. “Solipsism in philosophy raises the questions: ‘What if I am the only person that is real and what if everyone around me is a figment of my imagination? What if I am the God of my own Creation?’… It reflects multiple themes throughout the record!”
Vocalist J.D. Kaye says the real world fuels the furnace of Purest of Pain’s lyrics, their music holds a mirror to the world, reflecting it through a glass darkly. “‘Solipsis’ is a very angry record from a lyrical standpoint. About half of the songs deal with frustration with societal norms. The other half deals with more personal struggles!”
“Solipsis” is set for release on March 1st, 2018 and will be available on CD, Vinyl plus as a digital release and available for pre-order here. Their single “Terra Nil” is available for download and stream on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Spotify, Deezer.
The CD and Vinyl versions have slightly altered artwork. Merel Bechtold was responsible for its concept and bass player Frank van Leeuwen designed and finalized the covers.
