MUTANK To Play Metalelujah Fest In Quebec City

Out Now! New Mosher “W.H.A.T.S.T.H.A.T.” via Boonsdale Records

Wrapping up their cross Canada tour last month with metal legends ANNIHILATOR and Australia’s MASON, Montreal thrashers MUTANK will be returning to Quebec City on August 4th to perform at Metalelujah Fest. The two day festival will feature bands from the Quebec metal scene such as Morgue, Insurrection, Ghoulunatics, Warsenal, Eternal Judgment, Accursed Spawn and more. Full details can be found here.

MUTANK is performing in support of their new EP “W.H.A.T.S.T.H.A.T.” released this past June via Boonsdale Records. The five track demolisher was produced with Topon Das (Fuck The Facts) and is a step up from what people have heard from them thus far. The EP follows their debut cassette EP “M.E.C.H. Metal” and is a taste of what’s to come from the band’s full length planned to be unleashed later this year. The title of the EP “W.H.A.T.S.T.H.A.T.” stands for “We Have Alottta Thrash Songs That Have Abbreviated Titles” and came to be first as joke for the band.

Vocalist Stephen Reynolds comments:

“I just thought it would be funny to force an acronym for ‘what’s that?’ and I came up with ‘We Have Alottta Thrash Songs That Have Abbreviated Titles’. From there we came up with the concept of an EP with a bunch of forced acronym titles. The EP itself was written somewhat conceptually with the individual songs being very short thrash songs that come together to make one longer progressive thrash track, which harkens back to the title since we don’t even know what it is!”

“W.H.A.T.S.T.H.A.T.” is now available for CD order and digital download at the following link: https://mutankthrash.bandcamp.com/album/w-h-a-t-s-t-h-a-t plus all major online retailers such as iTunes, Amazon, etc.

“they play good-natured thrash a la Overkill and Exodus… perfectly serviceable and enjoyable, definitely more effective when they are playing fast.” – Decibel Mag

“MUTANK is like a Coffee Crisp bar: crunchy as hell, and without any gooey center.” – Bucket List Music Reviews

“their hybrid thrash, traditional, speed metal makes for a great heavy experience” – We Love Metal

“They have a lot of thrashing songs that have abbreviated titles, and they kick some serious ass with their old school music and hardcore attitude.” – The Headbanging Moose

If your a fan of old school Overkill, Megadeath or Exodus or if you just want a fast and thrash album check it out” – Canadian Beats

““W.H.A.T.S.T.H.A.T.” is one of those records that you seem a band jamming out in their garage and eventually an audience just gathers because their thrash, punk, and a bit of tongue-in-cheek causes the listener to pay attention to what Mutank has to say.” – MUEN Mag

“Fast riffs, Heavy tempos crazy yelling.. its got all you’ve asked for. Debut Self-Titled Album Out Aug 4th

We live on the layers of deep time and history, strata of times past; life literally depends on centuries of decay. Now, progressive extreme metal visionaries CENTURIES OF DECAY build on the metal that has come before to create the metal of the future. Known for creating an intense powerful atmosphere and letting the metal speak for itself in their live performance, the Toronto based quintet are bringing that experience to fans in their debut self-titled concept album set for release on August 4th.

Drummer Derrick Doucette comments:

“We’ve often thought about the fragility of civilization throughout history and events repeating. With that in mind, our concept album tells the story of society being born, corrupt and destroyed in an endless cycle. It can be taken as a literal piece of fiction, or even a social commentary. It also comes from more personal issues such as depression, disillusionment and failure.”

Teaming up with MetalWani.com, the band reveals their second single “Wings of Death”, a song about religious and political propaganda and how it’s use to draw lines between people and nations. The lyrical content of this song draws from influences from George Orwell’s 1984. The song was written as two halves, a slower heavier groove, then kicking into fast paced death metal with some vocal harmonies by guitarists Rob McAllister and Devin Doucette.

About:

We live on the layers of deep time and history, strata of times past; life literally depends on centuries of decay. Now, progressive extreme metal visionaries CENTURIES OF DECAY build on the metal that has come before to create the metal of the future.

Formed in 2013 in Toronto, Ontario, CENTURIES OF DECAY sound is ‘atmospheric, intense, powerful, dynamic, and heavy’.

Drummer Derrick Doucette explains the roots of the band’s name.

“The intention of the name is to paint an image of nature reclaiming the lands and cities and erasing the traces of humanity once people have been removed from the world. This can also be open to interpretation. Some may see Centuries of Decay as being in reference to an extended period of social degradation or the idea of the planet being a barren land void of life entirely. We chose this name because we felt it conveyed a powerful image and atmosphere, which appropriately went hand-in-hand with our musical style.”

That style will be unleashed by the four-piece on their self-titled debut album due out August 4, 2017, which drummer Derrick Doucette is eager for fans to hear.

“I was told recently that someone found our sound very unique and refreshing. That really meant a lot to me and I would love if that opinion was shared by both old and new fans. I find we’ve taken our influences from various sub-genres of extreme metal and turned them into a tasteful blend of compelling, climactic and devastating intensity on these seven tracks.”

Fans can also expect more music in the future.

“We are already looking forward to writing more material and refining our sound more. I’m excited to see how our sound will evolve…Our fans can expect multiple albums as that was the intent from day one!” adds Doucette.

Live, CENTURIES OF DECAY have their own unique approach to performing, they make every set flow together, creating a huge atmosphere and letting the metal speak for itself.

“This is not a one-dimensional album that’s easily described. Each song has its own style and flavour, mixing different styles together with well-deserved contempt for genre restrictions and constraints. Centuries of Decay have crafted a modern extreme metal release that effectively combines these different strains of metal into something all of their own.” – Wonderbox Metal

“Up next was Centuries Of Decay, who gave us some atmospheric death metal. Devin Doucette and Rob McAllister shared guitar and vocal duties. Devin sang lead and handled a chunk of the brutal vocals but they gave a few great harmonized melodic vocals. Their last song had an additive time signature, which is something that really catches my attention as a musician.” – Metal Master Kingdom (Live Review Wacken Metal Battle Canada 2016 – Toronto)

Evolution is a revolution as ZEALOTS DESIRE morph from straight hard rock to something that is a more classic sound that they like fans to feel strengthened and empowered by. Hailing from London, Ontario, ZEALOTS DESIRE live up to their impassioned name. They have a fanatical desire to bring their unique and genre-redefining brand of heavy rock to the masses. Inspired by bands as diverse and talented as System of a Down, Led Zeppelin, Alice In Chains, and appropriately, Tool, ZEALOTS DESIRE describe their sound as ‘huge, intense, yet graceful and delicate’ and warn their legions of fans that their forthcoming album should be cranked as loud as humanly possible.

Set to perform at WT Fest in Brantford, ON on July 29th alongside Our Lady Peace, Collective Soul, Soul Asylum, Treble Charger, Sumo Cyco and more, these hard rockers are sharing with fans their latest single and video “The Fool”.

The band comments:

“The Fool is one of our favorite songs to perform. It seems to go through all the motions. There’s still something that feels peculiar to us about the chorus as well and we love that about it.”

“Zealots Desire – comprised of guitarist and lead vocalist Joshua Cunningham, bassist Ryan Daniels, lead guitarist Matt Babineau and drummer Dan Hunt – have ingrained themselves as a staple in the regional music scene and, by and large, invoke the same loyalty, fervor and excitement from their fans that you’d expect from much more established artists. It took almost no time for their signature hard-as-nails style of rock and roll to turn up the heat in the venue a few more notches, getting people off their seats and moshing on the dance floor reminiscent of much larger shows. Most notably along with the metal power chords and catchy hooks, lead vocalist Joshua Cunningham’s natural charisma and fun stage presence was outstanding and accentuated the entire performance. ” – Lambton Shield

“Zealots Desire don’t disappoint – everything you love about their wicked blend of grunge and metal is there, including the slamming guitar, and the awesome vocal range of Josh Cunningham – check it out! You’re missing out otherwise!” –  CHSR 97.9 FM

“It’s always nice when a local band is on the cusp of a breakthrough, and I guarantee you’re going to be hearing a lot more about these guys. It’s great meaty rock and roll; it’s so good, you guys should find a way to turn it into a sandwich that we can eat. Veiled under the crunching sound, your pounding drums, your soaring vocals, there is an underlying tapestry of classical music. You guys are the real deal.” – Daytime London, Rogers Television

Within the first 20 seconds a swinging, almost blues inspired riff wraps itself around your head, and then it comes back heavier (and slower) when the full band kicks in. Around that same time, vocalist Donovan Turner makes his presence known with a full throated straight from the guts of hell bellow, immediately calling these proceedings to order….On their first proper full length, PLANET EATER prove themselves contenders not only in the local scene, but have created a product that is worthy of international listenership

With a very unique zealous way of deciding on writing their music.

“Grab a dictionary, flip to the end pages, and you’ll find a zealot described as someone who’s strong opinioned and fanatical about it. Grab a moment with London’s Zealots Desire and you’ll find a rather polite, thoughtful person with strong opinions, best expressed in music. Josh Cunningham is one such Zealot who’s rather pleased with how their music is winning over fans in London and, on occasions, parts further north, south, east, and west.” – The Beat Magazine

“Zealots Desire from London, Ontario, impressed with an energetic performance of their progressive grunge. Singer Joshua Cunningham’s powerful voice is well supported by the full sound of this band. The songs ELEPHANT STOMP and NAMELESS are great songs to see and hear live as the explosive energy of the songs is emphasized by the band’s powerful performance.” – IndieSolo

“Hailing from Canada, EXPAIN is not your run-of-the-mill thrash metal band. No, no, they’ve definitely got something different to bring to the party. 2017 – Pinching Nerves (EP)
2014 – Just The Tip (LP) – Listen here.

Hailing from the Pacific North West, progressive thrash metallers Expain have spent almost a decade crafting their unique blend of melodic, unrelenting, bouncy trash metal. With recent additions of Eli Slamang on guitar (Ex-Skull Vultures) and Sean Ip on vocals (The Hallowed Catharsis) their new EP “Pinching Nerves” is a cacophonous flurry of pounding drums, harmony laden riffs and in your face, catchy vocals to follow their 2014 debut album. The EP also features a guest solo from ex-Martyr and current Voivod shredder Daniel Mongrain.

What the press says:

“…the material on the album is certainly some of the most unique and entertaining music that I have encountered in a while…every single element, and every single moment on Just the Tip contains something unique for the listener to discover, and like the name of the album suggests, every subsequent listen to the album makes one realise that one has merely discovered just the tip of the iceberg with the whole host of things going on.” – Heavy Metal Tribune

“…this group takes various elements of their influences – which includes punk, jazz, classical, world, pop, and even country – and melds them into some serious stunning thrash metal.” – Pure Grain Audio

“For some parts it reminds me of the instrumental genius of latter Annihilator/Jeff Waters’ material…” – Brutalism

“Expain is a solid five-piece that conjures the best of metal. Not exactly thrash, nor progressive or even metalcore, but certainly a lot of the above, it swims in raging waters where technique, grooves, speed and melody meet. Beautified with an artwork from no other than artist Tony Koehl (Deamon, Gorgasm, Malignancy, Heavy Lord, and many, many more), this first album has many attributes to attract both eyes and ears. – Metal Made In Canada

“a perfect blend of the technical and melodic, combining together to create a sound that is incredibly unique and forthright. I have listened to the album several times now, and each time I find myself enjoying some new dimension to the sound, or some new aspect of the music. It just keeps getting better.” – Vancouver Metal

“a powerful album that plays host to melodic riffs, vengeful beats and impressive vocal. All in all the time chugged by with just over half an hour (36 minutes and 14 seconds to be precise) and is certainly an album that doesn’t out stay its welcome.” – Demented Magazine

“It’s one of the finest independently released albums I’ve ever heard in my life. From the short intro track ‘Bacchus’ all the way to the perfect closer in ‘Eating A Beating Heart,’ there’s so many quality thrashers on the disc. ‘The King’ is a personal favorite of mine as the musicianship is ridiculously tight. ‘Aggressions Progressions’ has an absolutely beautiful dueling solo section and ‘Manatee’ has a sick bass solo. Overall it’s 11 tracks of pure thrash mayhem” – Broken Neck Radio

“very well written, catchy songs of melodic Thrash Metal. It’s not bad, and certainly has some good Death metal parts as well, brutal riffs, insane blasting and raw vocals, so i’ll have to wait and hear what they do next. Their progressive influences is something cool and accurate as they could be, the playing is impressive, sometimes very much so. The super thick production is great too and a good idea. Somebody tell me why these guys aren’t signed?” – Soul Grinder Zine

“The band comes racing out of the gate with three dementedly heavy fist-pumpers….a promising metal act that is well worth a listen.” – Discorder (E.P.E.P Review)

“a strong mixture of early Thrash and Crossover Thrash concepts, blending them with a Melodic Death Metal sound, and plenty of energetic aggression.” – Apochs Metal Review (E.P.E.P Review)

“Don’t leave your children alone with The Almighty Excruciating Pain” – Metal Sucks (E.P.E.P Review)

It’s been some years since EXPAIN‘s debut album “Just The Tip” enlightened the senses of metal fans across Canada and beyond. The album brought forward a great combination of thrash, death, prog, technical and jazz influences all balanced for a very welcomed mosh pit of madness, especially for fans that enjoy the styles of bands like Revocation, Black Dahlia Murder and Vektor. Touring across the country these past years, EXPAIN is back with a fresh line up that includes Eli Slamang on guitar (Ex-Skull Vultures) and Sean Ip on vocals (The Hallowed Catharsis). The band will be releasing their perfectly titled EP “Pinching Nerves” on September 15th, which will be doing exactly as it says with its flurry of six cacophonous tracks of pounding drums, harmony laden riffs and in your face catchy vocals. The EP even showcases a very legendary special guest, guitarist Dan Mongrain (Voivod, Martyr) on “Corridors of The Mind”, which the band has teamed up with GearGods.net to exclusively premiere the video playthrough featuring Mongrain’s solo with shredding attacks from EXPAIN’s Pat Peeve and Eli Slamang.

“Hold on to your balls, for Expain could be positioned as Canada’s next great metal export.” – Global Metal Apocalypse

“they are a superb and well balanced blend of progressive and technical with a strong leaning towards thrash/death with some jazzy elements in the mix for good measure, a potent combination that sets them aside from pretty much everyone else.” – Metal Talk

“Hailing from Canada, EXPAIN is not your run-of-the-mill thrash metal band. No, no, they’ve definitely got something different to bring to the party. Sure, all the requirements are there: ferocious drumming, slicing riffs, and ripping vocals, but it’s the structures of these songs that definitely stand out” – Amps and Green Screens

“a band built on displaying technical skills behind the instruments. A heavy and potent mixture of thrash and jazz metal, Vancouver, Canada’s Expain is hoping to become a staple in a genre built on technical skill and speed” – Under The Gun Review

“In my metal induced coma, I am inclined to say this band should not be sniffed at or trifled with, they are some serious thrash metal impresarios… For Fans Of: Uber thrash with a touch of jazz.” – All About The Rock

“Wildly diverse band that combines elements of thrash, punk, tech metal and even some jazz with an off-the-wall comedic streak.” Prog NW Metal Zone

0 The Headbanging Moose – Album Review – Karkaos / Children Of The Void (2017) “As we’re all the children of the void, let’s raise our horns and bang our heads to the superb new album by one of the most reputable and celebrated metal acts hailing from the beautiful province of Quebec.”

0 Centuries of Decay – Centuries of Decay (Review) “This is not a one-dimensional album that’s easily described. Each song has its own style and flavour, mixing different styles together with well-deserved contempt for genre restrictions and constraints. Centuries of Decay have crafted a modern extreme metal release that effectively combines these different strains of metal into something all of their own.”

Mixing atmosphere and mood with power and aggression, this is a collection of tracks that should find favour with any that appreciate a modern, non-standard interpretation of heavy music.
