Bio:
With humble roots starting off on St Patrick’s day in 1990 in an Irish pub, The Mahones have worked their way up to being internationally known in the punk community and have a pile of awards to their name. They have released 10 studio albums, three compilations, two live albums and two EPs with a host of guest appearances from other punk and alt rock bands. Along with having a song in the academy award winning film The Fighter (2010), their music has been in Irving Welsh’s Ecstasy, Dog Park, Celtic Pride, ABC’s Castle, Lost Girl, and many more. They have toured through 35 countries, headlined festivals all around the world and are proud to have shared the stage with almost all of their favorite bands.
It has been 2 years since The Mahones have played Calgary and they are excited to return with new music. The local support includes Craic the Lens, a Celtic flavored alt rock band; Copsickle, a no holds barred, in your face punk band; and From Under The Stone, a highly energetic amalgamation of Celtic punk and metal. Grab your dancing shoes and be prepared to be on your feet all night! The 18+ party kicks off at 9 pm at Distortion – 3828 Macleod Trail S. Ticket information available here. Facebook event here.
DISTORTION PRESENTS: RAYGUN COWBOYS CD RELEASE PARTY MAY 13, 2017 w/ GUTTER DEMONS

Raygun Cowboys are a psychobilly band birthed from the pool halls and dive bars of Edmonton, Alberta. They are releasing their third full length album on May 13, 2017 at Distortion Live Music Venue. With 16 years of live experience and the formula to get people up and dancing, this party will be going into the wee hours.
Bio:
Form their conception in 2000, Raygun Cowboys were recognizably a cut above the rest. They were quickly identified as the local band to support touring acts and they moved into the role exceptionally well. They released their first album Underworld Boogie in 2006, followed by serval coast-to-coast tours over the next year. The fans ate up the ‘suped-up-psycho-juke-joint-jive’ and the Raygun Cowboys’ place in Canada’s psychobilly scene was cemented. Two full lengths and more tours followed, seeing the band make appearances at some of the most respected festivals nationally. After a European tour they returned to the studio to record their third full length, which they are now supporting with a tour.

The aptly titled album Heads Will Roll will give you an idea of what’s in store on this tour stop. Adding to this frighteningly good night is Montreal’s Gutter Demons as direct support. No strangers to the rockabilly and punk scenes in Canada, Gutter Demons boast an intense stage show following their theme of ‘mutant psychobilly’. Warming the stage up is Edmonton rock n’ roll outfit The Preying Saints and Calgary’s 60’s rock group Blast Train. A macabre mixture of jivin’ dancin’ and boppin’ is guaranteed. The doors open at 8pm at Distortion – 3828 Macleod Trail S with the swingin’ carrying on until 2am, entry with valid ID only. Tickets for this night of madness can be purchased here. Facebook event here.
Also at Distortion in May: BC Rapper Merkules with Steve Ross, Luca Mele, Noise, Cquel, and Tef Zee. Friday, May 26 at 9pm. Tickets available http://www.truerhythm.ca/ Facebook event here.
About Distortion:
On February 12th 2007, a scene was born when an intrepid group of music lovers took over The Distillery Public House in downtown Calgary, AB. They catered to a diverse crowd serving lunch and dinner and at night having tight, intimate live music shows. Some of the big names that graced the stage included The Real McKenzies, Del the Funky Homosapian, Dayglo Abortions, D.O.A., The Vibrators, UK Subs, always supported by talented local bands.
After the lease was up, it was on to bigger and better things when they moved into an old theatre, The Distillery Rock n Roll Ballroom had arrived. One of the most legendary venues to make its mark on the Calgary music community, the ballroom hosted all genres with artists like Bone Thugs n’ Harmony, The Bronx, Mad Caddies, and Sticky Buds. The D crew had built up an infectious momentum, creating a highly desired place to play, and flooding the scene with high quality shows. Unfortunately the carpet was suddenly swept out from underneath them in 2012 and the crew had to seek out new digs.
Losing such an iconic venue was a massive detriment to the entire city, as it affected many genres, promoters, artists and fans. The group soldiered on and ended up in Eau Claire in their third venue. Unfortunately, that venture was short lived. It seemed like it was the end, and the community tried to rebuild itself working with the other local venues, opening new ones, seeing others shut down. Unbeknownst to the public at large, the D crew still wasn’t done. After a year, on May 1 2015, the announcement was made that a fourth venue had been found. After a few coats of paint and the posting of the famous bathroom rules, the rebranded Distortion – Live Music Venue was opened. Continuing to host local talent and bringing in big headliners like Blessthefall, SNFU, The Exalted Piledriver, and Stylist Beats, Distortion is the next chapter in the team’s journey to nurture the live music community.
