“Hailing from Texas is Sigil and with their new record Kingdom of The Grave they provide you some filthy face ripping death metal. This release contains eight total songs that are as heavy as you can imagine and just as head stomping as you can imagine. Smashing through the Gates of Hell like a rabid cross between Entombed circa- ‘Wolverine Blues’ and Discharge circa- ‘Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing’, Sigil inject the venom into their death metal, inspired by Entombed, Dismember, Tragedy, His Hero Is Gone, and Entrails, vocalist/guitarist Alex Citrone describes Sigil’s sound as “crusty, raw, crushing, D-beat death metal!” Sigil will release their debut album ‘Kingdom of the Grave’ on April 7th via the splendidly-named Horror Pain Gore Death Productions.
To Alex, his band’s name is most significant. “A sigil is a magic symbol that one creates, which represents an intent or desire. I chose the name because I like the idea that someone can focus their ambitions through ritual.”
Alex is confident Sigil’s music will be well received. “I think that fans of the old school will be psyched on this record the most. Fans of metal and punk in general will find something to love in it as well…I wrote the music I wanted to hear. Tradition is something a lot of people are starving for. That’s the place we’re coming from…On this record, I had most of the songs written before getting the band really started. Everyone else came in and added their own little touches to it.”
One approach that makes Sigil different to many death metal bands is their lyrics. “They came from a deeply personal place and one that’s curious of mysticism, the occult and the dystopian direction our society is going. The themes match the intensity of the music itself…”
Alex sums up Sigil’s debut album thusly: “’Kingdom of the Grave’ is pure raw death metal with an explosive energy to it. It has themes of the occult, suicide, police brutality, and a dystopian future. Fans of the old, and new school, will find something to love.”
CD and digital pre-order for ‘Kingdom of The Grave’ will be available from Horror Pain Gore Death Productions as of March 6th and officially available on April 7th.
