About:
In February 2014, Scythia had its sights set on new and larger horizons. They released their 3rd full length album “Of Conquest”, which was engineered/produced by Lasse Lammert (Alestorm, Gloryhammer, Halcyon Way, Svarsot) at LSD Studios in Lubeck, Germany. Co-produced by Shaun Thingvold (Strapping Young Lad, Lamb of God, Fear Factory), Mixed by Nino Laurenne (Ensiferum, Wintersun, Kiuas, Firewind) at Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki, Finland, and Mastered by Svante Forsback (Rammstein, Firewind, Korpiklaani,Apocalyptica) at Chartmakers in Helsinki, Finland. “Of Conquest” let to an overwhlemingly popular response and saw the band co-headline a major festival in Brazil and other festivals in the southeast USA in 2015.
“Of Conquest” sonically paved the way for their 4th full-length release “Lineage”, which was recorded using the same production team. 2016 sees Scythia getting ready for more touring in Canada and the US, and setting sail across the seas to international venues.

July 31 – Drumheller, AB – Loud As Hell Fest – info
In additional news, the band teamed up with SkullsnBones.com for their next guitar playthrough for their track ‘In Waves’ that features vocals from Mark Hunter of Chimaira.
“Crazy things happen when your buddy runs a butcher shop and has an open mind. We shot this video as a playthrough ,but with a different spin on the concept. There was so much blood and flesh, I almost went vegan. Almost.” comments guitarist DJ Temple.

The band’s new EP ‘Mouichido’ is a rebirth for the band as it’s a re-release of re-recorded material from their 2014 EP ‘Reborn’. ‘Mouichido’ is the Japanese word for “Repeat” or “to do one more time” and is perfectly titled for the EP to signify its re-release of previously recorded versions that now feature new vocalist Alex Friis and bass tracks recorded by Tristan Martin plus live performance being done by Ryan Loewen along with a guest appearance by vocalist Mark Hunter of Chimaira on track ‘In Waves’.

About:
Tenacity, work ethic and originality. There’s no excuses anymore.
Vancouver-based Without Mercy certainly stays true to its name. Ruthless and menacing, these Canadian metal titans have cultivated and redefined the phrase, “Fuck Pussy Metal”.
Founded in 2004, Without Mercy has gone from strength to strength over the years. They released their first EP “All Else Fails” in 2007 completely independently and used its humble beginnings to start the catapulting of performances, internet presence and radio play. In 2009, Without Mercy went on to record their self-titled full length album using the same team that worked on records by Devin Townsend, Mudvayne, and Marilyn Manson. Without Mercy rode the attention wave of their self-titled debut, using the escalation to begin a relentless performance schedule that would lead them far from their hometown and include over 200 live performances. No stranger to tenacity, in only a few short years Without Mercy have achieved; being the only indie metal band in Western Canada to have two tracks available on Rock Band 3, being featured in Tattoo Savage Magazine, and pioneering the phrases, ‘You Smell Like A Bitch’ and ‘Fuck Pussy Metal’ – which have now become synonymous with the band.
In 2014, Without Mercy unleashed third studio release, “Reborn”. Another massive evolution for the band, Without Mercy sought to bring back the organic metal sound and combine it with a high production standard. Fast forward to 2016, some line up changes with a new vocalist and bassist, the band is ready to share with fans re-recorded material from ‘Reborn’ on their new EP ‘Mouichido’ that even features Chimaira vocalist Mark Hunter on their track ‘In Waves’. The EP is set to be unleashed on May 27th, 2016 and will be supported with a steady rotation of touring and appearances across Canada and the USA. All of course, independently.

LIKE ANIMALS Playing East Coast Awakening Festival + Canadian Tour Dates (ON/QC/NB/NS)
New EP ‘Feral’ Out Now!

Orillia, ON’s deviant melodic math metallers LIKE ANIMALS are hitting the road this summer for dates across Eastern Canada in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Quebec plus Ontario and will be kicking off the tour with a performance at the East Coast Awakening Festival in Keswick, NB on July 31st on the FNG Stage (set time – 12:40pm- 1:20pm). The festivals line up inlcudes Silverstein, The Agonist, Cauldron, Sewn Eyes, Nervosa among many more bands from Eastern Canada.
LIKE ANIMALS‘ tour will be support of their new EP ‘Feral’ released at the beginning of January 2016 to follow their previous animal-themed EPs ‘Sweet Whispers, Plagued Ears’, ‘The Undertoad’ and ‘The Wild’.

Like Animals are breaking free of the constricting chains of modern music and are busy creating their own uninhibited style of spastic-math-metal graced with emotionally-charged vocals. Like a wild animal each member maintains a sense of chaos through their arpeggio guitar and bass sections, unorthodox drums peppered with dynamic changes, and finally tempered by the wavering vocals soaring just slightly above the instrumentals both in tone and feeling. The beasts within the band each perform vocal duties a sound akin to a coyote-esque choir featuring Jamie Haffenden on guitar and lead vocals, Will Tennant on drums, Myke Caouette on bass.
Their name is synonymous with their song-writing and attitude, where they are part of a pack, but still remain hungry and solitary, like a stray animal. Their 400-show track record over the years reveals their dedication to their craft having shared the stage with such bands as Fuck The Facts, Dog Fashion Disco, Adrenechrome, Downtown Brown, Scale The Summit, Polkadot Cadaver, Teethmarks and many more.
With four animal-themed EPs in tow (‘Sweet Whispers, Plagued Ears, The Undertoad, The Wild) and their new release called ‘Feral’ unleashed on January 22nd, 2016, the band is constantly working to create a continuously more mature and higher caliber sound. The group hunts and writes as a unit by drafting and evolving each song with each giving their own input.
Lyrics contend with themes such as: self-doubt, lack of self-worth, depression, anxiety, and the like. Like Animals continue to push the boundaries of the several genres which they base their experimental music on while committing to the best music they can produce.

New Album ‘Farewell To The Sun’ Out July 15th

Free Download – Astral Plane – here.
Set to hit the road for a five-day tour (dates below) of Ontario and Quebec with Minnesota’s atmospheric black metallers Ashbringer plus unleash their upcoming album ‘Farewell To The Sun’ on July 15th, Canadian black metal doom fusionists VOW OF THORNS have teamed up with SkullsNBones.com for the full album stream premiere at the following link: http://skullsnbones.com/listen-to-an-exclusive-stream-of-vow-of-thorns-farewell-to-the-sun-album/
Their album ‘Farewell To The Sun’ is also available for pre-order and comes with two immediate download of their tracks ‘‘Farewell To The Sun Part II‘ and‘Meeting On The Astral Plane’: https://vowofthorns.bandcamp.com/album/farewell-to-the-sun
VOW OF THORNS have been conceptualizing albums and pushing the boundary between aggressive and emotional. What once served as an anagram for Kevin Hawthorne’s solo work is now a joint effort with Dustin Richards, where the duo has quickly become one of the most intimidating musical ventures to date. The duo have been constructing songs unanimously and without interruption in a seamless writing process to craft work fueled by their musical and environmental influences. Constantly shifting between disparaging black metal vocals and triumphant guitar hooks dripping with doom-encrusted bass riffs and theatrical drums. The band pairs the forces of black metal and doom, blending the two styles with ease while maintaining a certain sense of tension and uncertainty in the air.

“Blowing out your speakers and filling your head with more fuzz than you can handle is Howling Giant and their new EP titled Black Hole Space Wizard Part 1. With a name such as Howling Giant and with a name such as the one that they gave to their EP you can expect big things, and Howling Giant delivers. Black Hole Space Wizard Part 1 is only four songs long and twenty-one total minutes but within those minutes you get a menagerie of sounds that come together to create mystical soundscapes and a wondrous story.” – Cadaver Garden
“Sonically, Howling Giant seem to be the missing link between Monster Truck and Mastodon, and they top it off with whacked-out, sci-fi lyrics about outer space.” – Hellbound
“Howling Giant come across as a confident band that are bursting at the seams with invigorating hooks that sound as familiar as they are new. They have the discipline to take their time fleshing out riffs without losing sight of the song, their energy and passion is felt throughout, which is the glue that holds this EP together.” – The Sludgelord
“Rocketing across the interstellar airways on a stellar path of massive grooves, ones fueled by the thrust of the ever-powerful riff and its incendiary combustion, Howling Giant make themselves heard throughout the cosmos on these four out-of-this-world tracks.” – Metal Nexus
“If modern day Mastodon got together with Crobot, added some Monster Truck style Hammond Organ and Elder’s gift for writing something fuzzy and glorious, then to be honest, it’d probably sound a little like this.” – Maximum Volume Music
“Running at just over 21 minutes & combing the ethereal grunge vocal ofSoundgarden, the doom of early Mastodon & the conceptual imagery of Arjen Lucassan. Howling Giant have produced an E.P that is as fucked up as this three-way sounds. Tim Polzine (guitar & vocals), Roger Warks (bass & vocals) & Zach Wheeler (drums & vocals) are great musicians, with an understanding of being as tight as a submarines doors as well as giving each other enough room to breath.” – All About The Rock
“The band sounds like a mad creature wailing away….perfect!…This is one of those albums that you need to put on, open the windows, and blow your neighbors away with the massive sounds on display. Grab a copy of this album now…..what are you waiting for?” – Altered Frequencies
“If you want to have an ear wedding you mix the sounds of old and new to make something fresh. Nashville’s own Howling Giant have skipped the wedding and went straight to the honeymoon with sounds as old as OG Sabbath to Baroness, Red Fang with a little Pelican and CKY mixed in. Totally familiar, yet totally fresh.” – Zombie Tap Dance
“Fuzz yeah, this is the shit. Well, it is if you’re into bands like Mastodon, Baroness and Red Fang. Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, USA, Howling Giant comes up with some infectious stoner rock, nudging towards psychedelic rock and doom. The trio seemingly consists of nerds who combine their love for comics, space travel and downtuned, fuzzed-out guitars.” – Merchants of Air
“Howling Giant are very capable of writing catchy compositions that are interesting on an artistic level while also playing perfectly to an audience.” – Metal Trenches
“Fuzz rock with the kinetics of a bikini-babe monster flick and the high drama of a mid-70’s Marvel comic book.” – Lucas Klaukien, You May Be Dead and Dreaming
“Slightly reverberated and charismatic vocals set to an astonishing stoned out groove. Take a look to what the others had to say. It’s stirring up some dust in the stoner scene and makes for some high expectations of what more is to come.” – Bucky Brown, Ripple Music
“The way they incorporate inspirations with great musical and songwriting talents and a huge sense of “I don’t give a fuck what you think”- attitude, gives me such satisfaction.” – Hakan Nyman, The Ripple Effect
“You guys sound like an evil Bachman-Turner Overdrive.” – Dave Cloud
“Who could not like a band that “plays self-indulgent, drop-tuned, fuzzed out riffs that could curdle milk?” Check out the epic “Whale Lord” to hear what they’re talking about. -Terra James-Jura – The Deli Magazine (Nashville)

HOWLING GIANT! The very name summons up mental images of a huge mutated orc-warrior astride an even more gigantic mastodon, ready to bring death, doom, damnation and destruction (and many other things beginning with “d”) down upon its enemies.
Names matter, and something magical happened when three nerds obsessed with all that is fuzzed-out, riffed-out, and heavy came together to compose cosmic odes to space travel, doomed sea-farers, and even an android on a camel-killing crusade (what harm did the poor camel ever do to him?), under the name Howling Giant.
Drummer Zach Wheeler says the name is no accident and reflects the band’s music. “Howling Giant sounds a lot like a loud beast, which is what we strive to do musically. We aim to create a full sound that people might normally expect from a five-piece rather than a power-trio.” Indeed, by employing the three-piece format, Howling Giant is following in the footsteps of legends like Motorhead, MC5, Cream, and Corrosion of Conformity; good company to be in! As the band’s philosophy would have it wisely: “Teamwork makes the dream work.”
Hailing from Nashville, Howling Giant obviously had some special metal immunity to all the country and western music in the air. The boys started jamming at school in Boston with an aim to move away from overtly serious music and have fun, describing their music accurately as “loud, energetic, heavy, melodic, and cosmic.”
Overall, Howling Giant’s music forms part of a fascinating Black Hole Space Wizard concept EP series. As guitarist Tom Polzine explains, “Musically we aim to write songs that are melodic, catchy, and head bang-able. As a concept series, we strive to conjure up space-themed imagery of heroes and villains at war, introducing the story and setting the scene of things to come within the Black Hole Space Wizard Universe. We’re not trying to spell out the entire story so much as we are creating scenes to provoke your imagination.”
Writing is very much a collaborative effort. “We usually come up with a general theme, then we write riffs and musical passages to support said theme. After that, we work on overall arrangements to create a nice flow and build within the song. Lyrics and vocal melodies come last as an icing on a very meaty cake. We find the flow of an album is just as important as the flow of an individual song and we strive to make each song unique. We wanted to include a combination of heavy, spacey, doom, and thrash, all wrapped up in a crunchy garage-sounding blanket. Fans can expect two more EPs within the Black Hole Space Wizard Universe. And with an overflowing riff bank, who knows how long we’ll go.”
Such far-out music deserves far-out lyrics, and Howling Giant is prepared to go to extreme lengths to get them. As bassist Roger Marks reveals, “We have a strict regimen of smashing our heads into walls daily until lyrics finally come to us.” As for inspiration, “We are inspired by science fiction and occult rituals, as well as books, movies, and other music.”
As part of an overall concept, the EP paints four distinct scenes.
- The pinnacle of mankind.
- An exodus from Earth.
- The Black Hole Space Wizard destroying everything.
- A lone survivor trapped on a ravaged Mother Earth.
In Roger’s own words, “The first track is a little more progressive, packed with riffs both dark and triumphant. The second track is all about build and groove. The third track is thrash, metal, and destructive. The final track is spacey with doom elements.”
Overall, it you are one of the many that wishes Mastodon had continued in the cosmic, crushing progressive manner of Crack The Skye and Blood Mountain, Howling Giant is your dream band!

About:
NECRNOMICON have a well-earned reputation for quality by releasing material only when ready and satisfied with the outcome ever since their demo entitled “Morbid Ritual” (1992) firmly established their name within the underground. “The Silver Key” EP (1996) led to mainstream recognition on a national level, but their debut album “Pharaoh Of Gods” (1999) and the sophomore “The Sacred Medicines” (2003) did even more to establish the band as a household name in Canada. “Return Of The Witch” (2010) marked the international break-through for NECRONOMICON, and saw them performing at prestigious festivals such as Inferno (Norway), Ragnarok (Germany), and the Barge To Hell metal cruise among others, while sharing stages with acts such as CRADLE OF FILTH, DIMMU BORGIR, BEHEMOTH, and MORBID ANGEL, to name but a few. Their steady advance around the globe grew considerably in impact by their next full-length “Rise Of The Elder Ones” (2013). Now NECRONOMICON are more than ready for the next step with ‘Advent Of The Human God’, their latest brutal assaulting soundtrack now available via Season of Mist for Europe as of March 18th and North America as of March 25th.
Delivering a lethal dose of symphonic, blackened death at a new height in their long lasting career, which began as early as 1988 with the founding of the band by guitarist and singer Rob “The Witch” in the deep northern part of Quebec, Canada known as the “Fjord of Saguenay”
The Canadian veterans keep their tracks on ‘Advent Of The Human God’ as gloriously epic as furiously massive and harsh. Songs like “The Golden Gods”, “Unification Of The Four Pillars”, “Crown Of Thorns” and “I Bringer Of Light” tell of experienced songwriting and an eclectic wide range of influences that flow into the sound ofNECRONOMICON. Nodding to DIMMU BORGIR and BEHEMOTH to DEICIDE and SUFFOCATION, these extreme metal addicts carve their own sound out of the much cherished ingredients of brutal dark music.
