“The crowd was stellar at Mavericks, where each of the four bands were well represented by their fan bases. Opening on the night were Ominous Eclipse, whose chunky, frantic thrash metal din was led by their howling frontman. Largely drawing from their 2015 album End of Days, the four-piece pounded through six songs, tackling tracks like “Pestilence,” Abandoned” and the album’s particularly solid title track. Helping to limber the crowd for the chaos to come, they called for a “wall of death” in the confines of the club and the fans delivered, clearing the centre of the floor before the opposing sides barrelled into one another, bodies flying everywhere.” – Exclaim!

SCYTHIA Premiere New Track ‘Soldier’s Lament’ via Metal Injection

New Album ‘Lineage’ Out May 4th

The winter of 2013/2014 was a busy one for progressive power metal band SCYTHIA. The Vancouver quartet’s lead single and music video from their previous album …Of Conquest, entitled “Bear Claw Tavern”, was first featured via GuitarWorld.com and instantly hit the web like wildfire. The video – described as a truly uproarious three-minute scorcher featuring SCYTHIA rocking out in a medieval tavern filled with hooligans and mysterious characters – garnered over 50,000 views in less than a few days, inciting io9 to dub it “20 times better than The Hobbit”.

Now with heightened recognition on their side, SCYTHIA are pleased to unleash their fourth independent full-length album, Lineage, set to release on May 4, 2016. Pre-orders for Lineage are available now via the band’s Bandcamp page.

Today, the band is previewing the record with a stream of their first single, entitled“Soldier’s Lament”. Listen here via Metal Injection:http://www.metalinjection.net/av/soldiers-lament-scythias-folky-axe-swinging-new-jam

“With Lineage, we feel that we’ve put our best foot forward and succeeded in delivering a follow-up that progresses upon what we started with …Of Conquest,” states guitarist and vocalist Dave Khan. “This new one is faster, heavier and SLIGHTLY more serious-toned but also more dynamic and original than its predecessor. This story will take the listener on a sonic voyage through peaks and valleys in true power metal style!”

Although the band self-produced the album, Lineage features engineering from Nino Laurenne (Firewind, Finntroll, Wintersun, Ensiferum) and Lasse Lammert (Alestorm, Gloryhammer, Powerwolf), and mastering from Svante Forsback (Rammstein, Volbeat, Firewind, Apocalyptica). Nino Laurenne is also responsible for mixing duties on the album. Lineage was recorded at LSD Studios in Lubeck, Germany and Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki, Finland.

1. Eternal Oath (3:37)
2. Laugh of the Tsar (5:41)
3. Barbarian (4:53)
4. Soldier’s Lament (5:22)
5. Loremaster Pt. I (7:33)
6. Loremaster Pt. II (6:49)
7. The Sacrifice (5:43)
8. Lineage (3:15)
Album Length: 42:56

2016 sees SCYTHIA getting ready for more touring in Canada and the US, and setting sail across the seas to international venues. So far, the band has three events in booked in north-western Canada, including their official album release party on May 4th. See below for all currently confirmed performance dates.

Dave Khan adds, “SCYTHIA is quite excited to tour with their Finnish friends in Thunderstone and feel that Shredmonton is the perfect festival for a CD release tour, given the heavyweight bands on the bill. We plan to complete a broader US tour in October so that we can truly showcase the new album to new and existing fans across the US.”

SCYTHIA Canadian Tour Dates:
April 16 – Red Deer, AB @ The Vat w/ Without Mercy
May 4 – Calgary, AB @ Dicken’s Pub – Official Album Release Party w/ Thunderstone and Viathyn
May 6 – Vancouver, BC @ Rickshaw Theater w/ Thunderstone, Titans Eve, Terrifier and Mournir
May 7 – Edmonton, AB @ Starlite Room – Shredmonton Festival w/ Dying Fetus, Goatwhore,

About:

Like a charging bear Scythia have been playing progressive power metal with a twist of folklore since 2008. Scythia has coined their own sound while drawing influences from different genres such as celtic/gypsy folk music, power metal, death metal and progressive rock. Scythia’s albums and performances feature rich, poetic storytelling and grand tales that vividly captures the imagination of their listeners. Because of this, they have taken the independent scene by storm as they gather more and more fans both domestically and internationally. Scythia acquired its name from vocalist/guitarist Dave Khan’s infatuation with ancient Slavic imagery and melodies inspired from Balkan music. The name is fitting for a grandiose sound as Scythia is also an ancient empire spanning from the Caucasus through Russia, and even into eastern Scandinavia.

Scythia delivered their first album “Of War” in 2010 where the band’s distinctive sound was forged, which carried on to their next release “Of Exile” in 2011. These albums featured sound effects, narration and classical instrumentation to help drive home their story through the medium of concept albums. Touring and press associated with these albums garnered recognition for the band as they were nominated for the Best Metal Group/Duo for Canada’s Sirius XM Indies – Independent Music Awards. Other nominees include Bison B.C, Derelict, Devin Townsend Project and Mares Of Thrace. This is a great honor for the band to be included as nominees for these awards since they represents the Canadian independent music scene.

In February 2014, Scythia had its sights set on new and larger horizons. They released their 3rd full length album “Of Conquest”, which was engineered/produced by Lasse Lammert (Alestorm, Gloryhammer, Halcyon Way, Svarsot) at LSD Studios in Lubeck, Germany. Co-produced by Shaun Thingvold (Strapping Young Lad, Lamb of God, Fear Factory), Mixed by Nino Laurenne (Ensiferum, Wintersun, Kiuas, Firewind) at Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki, Finland, and Mastered by Svante Forsback (Rammstein, Firewind, Korpiklaani,Apocalyptica) at Chartmakers in Helsinki, Finland. “Of Conquest” let to an overwhlemingly popular response and saw the band co-headline a major festival in Brazil and other festivals in the southeast USA in 2015.

“Of Conquest” sonically paved the way for their 4th full-length release “Lineage”, which was recorded using the same production team. 2016 sees Scythia getting ready for more touring in Canada and the US, and setting sail across the seas to international venues.

0 Kingston Music Reviews – The Decoys – In Our Blood

  • April 15, 2016

  • · The Decoys

I don’t think there is one song on this ten track album for which you will turn away from. They touch base on a few different sounds throughout the album but still stay close to a classic rock sound. But you also get the title track In Our Blood which is almost a cross between a country/bluegrass and rock sound.
