Over the last few years, the Ottawa, ON based rock nerds have toured across Canada six times, twice in the UK and the States, performing 500+ shows over 100,000 miles and sharing the stage with such acts as Silverstein, Hawthorne Heights, Every Time I Die, Dead and Divine, Lifestory:Monologue to name a few. Their new album ‘721835’ is a curious collection of songs that are inspired by everything the band loves and considers nerdy. Showcasing a creative sound influenced by geeky comic books, trading cards, classic 8 bits games to today’s future 3D experiences, the album follows up their 2011 EP ‘One Big Quicksand’recorded and produced by Jayson DeZuzio (Coheed and Cambria, My Chemical Romance) that was released via Blue Sapphire/Universal Music Canada.

Great heavy metal doesn’t waste time, and Where Giants Once Stood have hit the ground running. This July, the Toronto metallers return with the video for their new single ‘Living in Security’, filmed on location in Toronto and directed by LoganSwinkels of Logan Lights Creative. An anthem for taking control of your own destiny, ‘Living in Security’ deconstructs small-town complacency and showcases the band’s most creatively ambitious material to date.
‘Living in Security’ is the first single to be taken from the new EP Live Above, due for release September 2, 2014. Live Above is the natural successor to 2013’s The Changing EP, which tore onto the iTunes metal charts in July 2013 with a debut at no.2, earning critical praise, sponsorship from Ernie Ball and a place on SoundSHOCK’s “Best of 2013” feature along the way. The four new tracks take Where Giants Once Stood’s signature sound of scorching guitar work, “assaultive underbeats” and“drill-sergeant vocals” to soaring new heights, thanks to incendiary production by Jon Howard of Threat Signal. “Since we started up last year, we’ve grown so much as musicians, as songwriters and as performers”, reveals lead guitarist Jordan Turnbull. “We knew the sound of this new material had to be something special to reflect that, and Jon Howard’s production has really taken the Giants sound to the next level!”
The release of Live Above will see W.G.O.S. hit the road this summer for their third independently-booked tour of Eastern Canada, as the band move from city to city and strength to strength to prove themselves as genuine contenders in the Canadian metal scene. For lead vocalist Reshaun Page, touring is a call-to-arms: “Now we’ve arrived, we’re not going anywhere! DISPARAGER Announce NYC Show Dates ; New Drum Playthrough For ‘Pictures’ On GearGods.net
Brooklyn, NY’s DISPARAGER announces they will be performing two NYC show dates, one being a solo acoustic set by vocalist / guitarist Chris AhKao on Sept 1st at Piano’s followed by a date on October 8th at Black Bear Bar (full show details below).
The band recently teamed up with GeardGods.net for the premiere of their new drum playthrough for their track ‘Pictures’ off their latest EP ‘Timeless, Ageless’produced by Jay Maas (Defeater, Bane, H2O, American Nightmare, Polar Bear Club).
Vocalist/ guitarist Chris AhKao comments:
“Pictures is fun for us to play. It’s in 5/4 throughout, there’s 4/4 over 5/4 and 6/8 over 5/4 simultaneous polyrhythm stuff going on, and some metric modulation too. Peter is one of the best drummers I’ve ever played with. He’s pretty out there and challenges us as musicians.”

Formed just last year, DISPARAGER has always had the crazy notion that music is art and that art is never a means to an end but an end in itself. As an extension of frontman Chris AhKao regaining his life from personal demons, this debut EP is a testament to that. Bursting with dense rawness and precision while pushing the boundaries of metal with tracks like “At Least I Still Have Bon Iver” – half folk song, half crushing mix of Isis and Slayer – and “Pictures” – a time signature mindfuck the band is proud NOT to call prog rock. The music is meant to showcase a refusal to settle, to compromise, to live any other life than that inspired by unwavering intent, self-expression and integrity.

The crazies come out in force and mosh pits rage for the better part of a week! If you ever had doubts about the local metal scene, this was a Wednesday. I also like to mention, we chose ‘Hands Tied’ as it’s a song close to our hearts that is loosely based on a close friends imprisonment for a victimless crime. About:
Formed when three Newfoundlanders crossed paths in the Canadian heavy metal capital with Ahmed Saad who hails from the Middle East, the injection of music immediately began to flow through their veins and M.E.C.H. metal was soon born.
“It stands for Middle East Coast Heavy Metal; Our drummer being from the Middle East and the rest of the members being from the east coast of Canada,” explains Stephen Reynolds (bass, vocals). ‘Every single person in this band is a songwriter, so the songs come out with their own feel and develop naturally.’ continues Reynolds. ‘We don’t shackle ourselves to any kind of focused idea, which brings about a sort of honesty in the music not often found in metal.’

Nanaimo, BC six-piece powerhouse THE BODY POLITIC are proud to announce they will performing at this year’s third annual Rain City Throwdown in Vancouver, BC presented by Cariboo Brewing on September 27th at the Rickshaw Theatre.

Taking their name from a Clive Barker short story and shifting gears from jazz (which most of the members studied at Vancouver Island University) to progressive metal, the band combine poly-metric grooves, aggressive screams and soaring vocal melodies to push the boundaries of modern metal music with technically impressive musicianship to follow up their 2011 debut album ‘All Too Human’ (also available for free download at the following link http://thebodypolitic.bandcamp.com/).
