It’s a triple threat weekend for punk, zombie, rock n rollers Kill Matilda as the Vancouver, BC exports now residing in Toronto, ON will be performing at NXNE on June 19th at The Hideout in Toronto, followed by Spring Music Fest in Hamilton on June 20th at The Underground to wrap up the pursuit of a zombie free province back in Toronto at Hard Luck Bar on June 21st opening for Guttermouth.
“The zombie plague is worse than we originally anticipated. All survivors must come to the Hideout in Toronto on June 19th or to the Underground in Hamilton June 20th for specialized zombie-killing training courtesy of Kill Matilda. Showcasing their energy, power and adrenaline-soaked insanity they are famous for, Kill Matilda is rising to the challenge of zombie management. One Band Will Rule Them All!
Wacken Metal Battle Canada is proud to announce their national final line up consisting of bands from across the country. After hundreds of submissions and over 100 bands selected to compete in the battles that took place from the West coast of Vancouver to the Rockies of Alberta in Calgary and Edmonton to central Canada in Toronto and Montreal. The final line up consists of Canada’s top independent metal bands for one to rule them all and perform at the international Wacken Metal Battle during Wacken Open Air 2014 taking place from July 31- Aug 2, which saw last year’s Canadian winners Crimson Shadows become the 2013 WMB international champions.
The national final in Toronto will take place on Saturday, June 7 at Opera House (735 Queen St E.) with Neck of The Woods from Vancouver, Exit Strategy from Calgary, Mutank from Montreal plus My Hollow and Burning The Day from Toronto with guest headliner Skull Fist closing the night. One band will be chosen by a panel of music industry judges that includes Robb Reiner (Anvil), Noel Peters (Inertia Entertainment), Lindsay Schoolcraft (Cradle Of Filth), Jon Asher (Asher Media Relations), Adam Sewell (Riot, Rock Management / Stereo Dynamite), Darrell Shelley (Scene Magazine), Tim Henderson (BW&BK), Drew Copland (Villainizer).

About: Over 100 independent Canadian metal bands have were selected to participate in this year’s Wacken Metal Battle Canada line up in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. The bands competed during the months of March, April and May in 22 qualifying rounds, 6 semi-finals, and an Alberta final along with the national final to be held on June 7th in Toronto, ON at Opera House.
One band will be chosen to represent the nation with highest honour at this year’s 2014 international battle at the world’s most prestigious metal festival Wacken Open Air in Wacken, Germany.
The finals will have the following representation and will be judged along with all other rounds by a panel of music industry representatives.
1 finalist from Vancouver, BC
1 finalist from Alberta (Calgary & Edmonton will face off in Alberta final)
2 finalists from Toronto, ON
1 finalist from Montreal, QC
Last year’s battle was witnessed to Toronto, ON’s epic power/death metal band Crimson Shadows not only winning the 2013 Canadian final but conquering the international final and performing in front of thousands unknown to their behemoth sound. The band joined a list of Canadian heavyweights such as Voivod, Exciter, Razor, Annihilator, Anvil, Kataklysm, Cryptopsy, 3 Inches of Bloods, Despised Icon and Danko Jones who have performed at the festival in years past.
Submissions were open from December 5, 2013 to January 31, 2014.

Recently wrapping up their ‘Rated M For MaTour’ that included a showcase at this year’s Canadian Music Week to add their 500+ shows and collection of over 100,000 miles during their multiple past tours across Canada, the UK, and the States. Ottawa, ON video game rock nerds Double Experience are taking no time to hit the road again and going South to the USA for their ‘Smells Like Freedom Tour’ this June, which includes performances at Pegasus Records Store in Florence, AL and video game stores Game Over in Houston, TX and Austin, TX.
“Though this won’t be our first time touring in the USA, each show we booked was in a city or state we have never played before. We’ve already compiled another list of dream locations to visit based on the Food Network, too.” comments bassist Tim Kealey.
The band is gearing up for the August 1st release of their forthcoming album ‘721835′ recorded by fellow science-fiction aficionado Al Jacob (He is Legend, A Skylit Drive) in North Carolina. A curious collection of songs that are inspired by everything the band loves and considers nerdy, the album showcases a creative sound influenced by geeky comic books, trading cards, classic 8 bits games to today’s future 3D experiences to follow up their 2011 EP ‘One Big Quicksand’ recorded and produced by Jayson DeZuzio (Coheed and Cambria, My Chemical Romance) that was released via Blue Sapphire/Universal Music Canada.

Wrapping up their ‘CANADA SLAYS TOUR’ that saw TRIBUNE complete their second cross country tour from Vancouver, BC to Montreal, QC and back West in promotion of their latest album ‘Tales’, an author inspired concept album released October 2013 via their indie label Corpse Corrosion Music. Guitarist Terry Anderson has posted a blog recapping the tour and thanking fans and friends for all the support plus details on the band looking for pictures from the tour and their upcoming future plans.
“Hi Everyone, Terry here… I’m finally recovered from what has been Tribune’s funnest and most successful tour to date. It’s been about 12 days since Tribune got back from tour and we’re still adjusting back to our normal lives. So much has happened between our last blog in Saskatchewan and the end of our tour that summing up everything that happened in one blog entry just won’t do…We cannot thank you all enough for the love and support! There are so many people to be thanked that we’ll save the individual thank-you’s for later posts as we post more about the tour. This has been Tribune’s most successful tour to date and we owe it all to you! CANADA SLAYS!” -Terry Anderson

The band’s appetite for more melodic and more brutally heavy sounds to follow-up 2011’s Elder Lore/The Dark Arts is demonstrated with their collusion of extremity and accessibility that bleeds into the melting pot and their fresh take of progressive death metal.

Wacken Metal Battle Canada Announce Special Guest Headliner SKULL FIST At National Final In Toronto June 7th
Wacken Metal Battle Canada is proud to announce special guest headliner SKULL FIST for the national final in Toronto on Saturday, June 7 @ Opera House (735 Queen St E.) where one independent Canadian metal band will be chosen to perform at the international Wacken Metal Battle during Wacken Open Air 2014 taking place from July 31- Aug 2.
“We’re thrilled to have Skull Fist as our guest headliner this year. They are a world-class band, Canadian on top of that, and they’ve been upholding metal culture for many years. Their quest for heavy metal glory is highly respected and aligns with the values and goals of the Metal Battle. Alongside all of the finalists, it should be one hell of a show.” comments WMBC organizer JJ Tartaglia.
Bands from Vancouver and Toronto have completed their rounds and wait for the top bands from Alberta and Montreal to join them in the final.

About: Over 100 independent Canadian metal bands have been selected to participate in this year’s Wacken Metal Battle Canada line up in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. The bands will compete during the months of March, April and May in 22 qualifying rounds, 6 semi-finals, and an Alberta final along with the national final being held on June 7th in Toronto, ON at Opera House.
One band will be chosen to represent the nation with highest honour at this year’s 2014 international battle at the world’s most prestigious metal festival Wacken Open Air in Wacken, Germany.
The finals will have the following representation and will be judged along with all other rounds by a panel of music industry representatives.
1 finalist from Vancouver, BC
1 finalist from Alberta (Calgary & Edmonton will face off in Alberta final)
2 finalists from Toronto, ON
1 finalist from Montreal, QC
Last year’s battle was witnessed to Toronto, ON’s epic power/death metal band Crimson Shadows not only winning the 2013 Canadian final but conquering the international final and performing in front of thousands unknown to their behemoth sound. (Video of that champion set can be viewed here.) The band joined a list of Canadian heavyweights such as Voivod, Exciter, Razor, Annihilator, Anvil, Kataklysm, Cryptopsy, 3 Inches of Bloods, Despised Icon and Danko Jones who have performed at the festival in years past.
Submissions were open from December 5, 2013 to January 31, 2014.
