DISPARAGER Announce NYC Show Dates ; New Drum Playthrough For ‘Pictures’ On GearGods.net
Brooklyn, NY’s DISPARAGER announces they will be performing two NYC show dates, one being a solo acoustic set by vocalist / guitarist Chris AhKao on Sept 1st at Piano’s followed by a date on October 8th at Black Bear Bar (full show details below).
The band recently teamed up with GeardGods.net for the premiere of their new drum playthrough for their track ‘Pictures’ off their latest EP ‘Timeless, Ageless’produced by Jay Maas (Defeater, Bane, H2O, American Nightmare, Polar Bear Club).
Vocalist/ guitarist Chris AhKao comments:
“Pictures is fun for us to play. It’s in 5/4 throughout, there’s 4/4 over 5/4 and 6/8 over 5/4 simultaneous polyrhythm stuff going on, and some metric modulation too. Peter is one of the best drummers I’ve ever played with. He’s pretty out there and challenges us as musicians.”

Formed just last year, DISPARAGER has always had the crazy notion that music is art and that art is never a means to an end but an end in itself. As an extension of frontman Chris AhKao regaining his life from personal demons, this debut EP is a testament to that. Bursting with dense rawness and precision while pushing the boundaries of metal with tracks like “At Least I Still Have Bon Iver” – half folk song, half crushing mix of Isis and Slayer – and “Pictures” – a time signature mindfuck the band is proud NOT to call prog rock. The music is meant to showcase a refusal to settle, to compromise, to live any other life than that inspired by unwavering intent, self-expression and integrity.

Opening with “Pictures,” the band show themselves as technically adroit but never at the expense of the actual song. “Tuesday Love” is raw in its emotion; this is an antidote to the fake music that clogs up the airwaves like fat in an old man’s arteries. “Gratitude” reminds me of Cave In with its juxtaposition of darkness and light. My favourite track on the EP is the heartfelt “R.I.P Bill Hicks” (Bill Hicks was a genius and the world is a poorer place for his passing— look up some of his work for proof). Nanaimo, BC six-piece powerhouse THE BODY POLITIC are proud to announce they will performing at this year’s third annual Rain City Throwdown in Vancouver, BC presented by Cariboo Brewing on September 27th at the Rickshaw Theatre.
“Rain City Throwdown will definitely be a highlight of our fall touring season. We’ve been friends with the guys in Take The Earth Beneath Us for a couple of years now, and we’re happy to be a part of their hometown comeback show. Quartered is unleashing their EP to local fans that night as well, which we are really looking forward to. About:
Taking their name from a Clive Barker short story and shifting gears from jazz (which most of the members studied at Vancouver Island University) to progressive metal, the band combine poly-metric grooves, aggressive screams and soaring vocal melodies to push the boundaries of modern metal music with technically impressive musicianship to follow up their 2011 debut album ‘All Too Human’ (also available for free download at the following link http://thebodypolitic.bandcamp.com/). About: Featuring a combination of death and thrash metal, the Edmonton-based band are known to devastate their audiences with their high octane performances that has lead them to share the stage over the years with high profile names such as Kataklysm, Cryptopsy, The Haunted, and Aborted (to name a few).
Originally formed in 2003 in Stony Plain, AB, Canada, Death Toll Rising have been grinding the Western Canadian metal scene steadily, gaining huge momentum over the last 3 years. New addition Tylor Dory on guitars has introduced a technical and progressive element to the band they have not had in the past. Add in the intense and relentless drumming provided by Bryan Newbury (recently recruited by Canadian prog/death powerhouse INTO ETERNITY), as well as the well-rounded rhythm provided by Drew Copland on guitar and Mike Puff on bass, and you get a monster that is only now being unleashed upon the masses with vocalist Jesse Berube topping things off with a combination of brutal death growls and Tomas Lindberg-esqe high shrieks, which will be plenty noticeable on their new album ‘Infection Legacy’.

The band released their sophomore album ‘Horizon’ in August 2013, building on their previous success with their self-titled debut released in early 2011. Mixing the sound of modern metal and classic rock, brothers Luke and Deke Worrell, with Adam MacLeod and Steve White have created a sound appealing to both young and old alike.
2013 once again saw the band pushing hard with touring in their home province plus local praise from their hometown station Rock 97.9 FM naming them #4 on the Top 20 Metal/ Hard Rock Albums released last year.
