arrival of autumn - "like fire" official live lyric video

Combining live performance with lyrics on screen, Grande Prairie, AB’s Arrival of Autumn have posted their new video  ‘Like Fire’, a track that talks about the correlation of a dangerous relationship and a fire that consumes and injures the body. The video was filmed by Nathan Fast at The Grande Prairie Live Theatre back in November 2014 to a packed room of energetic faces giving the viewer a sense of the atmosphere that night.

“We really wanted our song meshed with a live lyric video so you could learn the words and see us play at the same time. Not only that, but we only had one shot to do the video right because it was at our show in front of great hometown crowd so it was really cool to be put on the spot like that.” comments drummer Ty Fox.

About:

Since early 2011, Grand Prairie, AB’s Arrival of Autumn has been shaking up the Canadian prairies with their heavy riffs, hooky vocals and speed demon double kicks. Their versatile headbanging tunes has made them accessible to fans of rock to the most hardcore death metal moshpit.

A band name inspired by Opeth lyric’s (thanks to drummer Ty Fox) and influenced by various genres ranging from melodic death to groove metal to progressive to rock n’ roll, AOA’s catalogue has grown rapidly with two self-releases in 2014. First it was their debut EP ‘Endless Nights’ in March followed by their ten track full length ‘Shadows’ in September.

“We are just trying to make a record that’s a little different than what’s going on at the moment. It’s no secret there is an abundance of the exact same thing floating around and we would never add to that. We wanted to give them something exciting and different to listen to. The good thing about our album is you can take any 3 songs put them together and it’s great. Our CD doesn’t rely on having only a few good songs. Every song has the potential to be a single. It can be received any way and people will get what AOA is all about.” comments AOA vocalist Ty Fox.

Touching on personal issues to triumphing demons as a band, ‘Shadows’ with a dash of dark lyrics and tracks such as The Court Of Owls to There’s No Angels Here to the infectious chorus of Like Fire demonstrates AOA are not just evolving, but  are a live force raging to be discovered by the masses.

About:

EXES FOR EYES is a project born of an overwhelming amount of mutual respect and admiration between two men. A respect for one another’s work ethic, musical proficiency, stylistic taste and of course, for each other as people.

The concept of blindness, be it willing, involuntary, inherent or otherwise is so foreign and far removed from anything within the realm of experience for these men. However as the process has begun to create this music, it has become apparent how limited one’s own vision can be when staring at the broad side of limitless potential and ambition.

With the musical vision of Dave Sheldon (ex Man With Target, Annihilator) and the lyrical conception of vocalist and frontman Big James (Endast, Authors) the project is very quickly taking shape into something more than either anticipated. The hope is to see the world of metal in a new light, with EXES FOR EYES.

About the album:

BornBroken‘s debut album ‘The Healing Powers of Hate’ was released in June 2013. The album was fan voted as Album of The Week (June 10th, 2013) on Revolver Magazine, along with debuting #8 on Canadian College Loud Charts, plus was named one of the best unsigned Heavy Metal Bands for June 2013 by Drago’s Dungeon on About.com – Heavy Metal. They have also received great admiration from Yell Magazine! quoting ‘This is a debut metal album of epic proportions. Those who love hard, heavy, angry metal are in for a treat and may find a new favorite in BornBroken.’.

About the band:

BornBroken was formed with one simple mission in mind: Help the masses find a voice, a face, an “X” that marks the spot through the sounds of beating skins, metal strings and broken chords.

After months of writing and hours spent in the studio, BornBroken managed to take every emotion they felt, put it to music, build off of past battle scars and create a record where listeners will feel they are part of the storyline.

On their debut album, The Healing Powers of Hate, BornBroken play out not only what life has given them but also what they want to give back: truth, integrity, perseverance, loyalty and faith in humanity’s struggle for equality.

“Montreal’s BornBroken simply go for the throat and never let up. Their debut record The Healing Powers of Hate is a no holds barred punch to the face. Combining the aggression of Lamb of God with the riffs of Pantera makes for a modern day polished metal release. A concept record based around mankind’s ability to overcome adversity and rise up against it, the message is powerful and thought provoking.” – About.com – Heavy Metal – Drago’s Dungeon: June 2013 The Month’s Best Unsigned Heavy Metal Bands

“BornBroken may be the best metal band you probably haven’t heard of. Those who love hard, heavy, angry metal are in for a treat and may find a new favorite in BornBroken. Their latest album, The Healing Powers of Hate, is the perfect combination of heavy meets melodic and combines what you’d hear from Lamb of God, Hatebreed and Five Finger Death Punch into one powerful, melodic, fist-pounding metal experience. There’s not one dull moment here and any metal head should at least check this album out. Rating: 8.5/10″ – TheFrontRowReport

“These extreme metallers have done an amazing job of combining death and thrash without treading on melodic death too much…The quality of the recording is also up to standards, including some gravity blasts that’ll have you shouting, “fuck yeah!”…This is a debut metal album of epic proportions. If it’s not the Canadian metal album of the year, it’s certainly in the running for Canadian debut metal album.” – 4/5 – Yell Magazine

“‘The Healing Power of Hate’ is a well executed album, tight and well produced, at times with strong hardcore influence. I liked the strong profile that the drums took, the guitar breaks were exciting and all the way through the vocals were first rate. The time taken to create it is very evident in the final result.” 4.5/5 – MetalTalk

“From the Canadian Mecca of metal, Montreal, comes upstart antagonists of aggression BornBroken and their debut The Healing Powers of Hate. From the opening moments of lead track “Can’t Quiet the Riot” it’s obvious these boys aim to take their hybrid of groove metal and metalcore and jam it right down your throat. Drawing heavily from the likes of Pantera and Lamb of God, the first meal of the day is a pit-ready anthem. Working off catchy as fuck, breakdown inflected riffs BornBroken mercilessly pound the listener to pulp. There is absolutely no doubt people leave a BornBroken show with injuries.” – Hellbound

“Montreal Metalheads spawn a beast of a debut album…Over the years, there has been the odd occasion when a debut album has really struck me between the eyes, knocked me to the ground and given a damn good slapping (in the musical sense of course). Here is the latest in that line, an album of intense and brutal passion mixed with a groove based element that had me hooked from track one.” – Planet Mosh

“This album is 44 minutes of pure adrenaline infused death-thrash metal at its finest. The Healing Powers Of Hate captures the voice of ‘the broken’ and grants an identity to the thousands of so called misfits that struggle to find a place in our society. Marching to the sounds of brutal bass, slamming percussion, high-speed guitar solos and violently powerful vocals, the broken shall rise.” – LouderThanHell – 5/5

“The Healing Power of Hate is a great example of why Canadian metal is regarded around the world as being of very high quality: Because, quite simply, it is”. – GoetiaMetal

“It’s aggressive, fierce, and well-crafted” – Bloody Underated

“I especially liked the guitars’ tone and the bass omnipresence, which add a thick extra layer of heaviness to the overall sound and prevent the album from feeling too polished or light. A well-crafted album without frills: as I mentioned above, BornBroken is not here to be cute but instead to knock you out with a direct hit in the face and they achieve this perfectly.” – Metal Made In Canada

“I was sucked in after the first couple of songs and if I had a label I would sign them in a heartbeat! I understand that this release was self-produced and if that is the case these boys are ten steps ahead of the game and will have labels banging through their doors in no time.” – XplosiveMetal

“Many of the hooks and riffs are excellent, they absolutely destroy my speakers, and the bedroom mosh commences.” – MetalStorm

“this record succeeds because it is so damn fun to listen to and the aggression seems just 2nd nature to these guys.” – Imhotep

“I thoroughly enjoyed “The Healing Powers of Hate”. It’s got breakdowns, screaming solos and funky bass, three of my favourite things. I also liked the way the band incorporated other non-musical features, such as the sounds of sirens and spoken lyrics. It’s hard to hate on this album, despite the healing powers the emotion offers. ” – Metal Temple

“The Healing Powers Of Hate is the debut release from these up-and-comers and is loaded with hard-hitting riffs and even heavier breakdowns. With this album BornBroken have resurrected the intense metallic sounds of bands the likes of A Life Once Lost, Hatebreed, Nora, and Arise And Ruin that once dominated the North American metal scene. It’s wonderful to hear a band like BornBroken bringing back what some might consider the peak sound of modern metal.”

– MusikUniverse

“Musically, BornBroken are a more solid, and extremely heavy, lot. Simon Savard and Mike Decker’s surging, Dimebag Darrell-inspired grooves hit like haymakers throughout, aided by the sort of dry, ultra-punchy production Terry Date used to achieve such brutal majesty with Pantera, Unearth, Deftones and on White Zombie’s Astro Creep: 2000. The sound here is huge – especially for a self-released effort – clear and quite pummeling.” – Metal-Rules

“It’s not often when you find yourself deep inside of a storyline with an album especially a Metal album, and this is exactly where you find yourself being drowned in throughout The Healing Powers of Hate. Every lyric and every song has a purpose and sheds the tearing storyline that is BornBroken. Throughout every well timed riff through the endless pounding of the skins and through each scream and Growl BornBroken brings you down to their deep hell and shows you their vision through The Healing Powers Of Hate.” – KingstonMusicReviews

“BornBroken deserves broad attention. They’ve already made a very big impression in their native Montreal, both for their live performances as well as their music in general. I honestly don’t know that much about the Montreal metal scene, but I do know that it is getting bigger and more competitive. For these guys to emerge as a local favorite suggests something of their overall quality. Give this one a spin.” SeaofTranquility – 4/5

“BornBroken’s Healing Powers Of Hate is a powerful album that falls in line with the likes of Pantera, Lamb Of God, and Hatebreed with some thrash inspirations from the likes of Testament, and Slayer.” – Emurg.com

“I must say that BornBroken’s amalgamation of melodeath, metalcore and modern thrash works very well. It is well balanced and captures only the good aspects of these three genres, reminding us that, despite all the not-so-interesting bands that roam the three genres, melodeath, metalcore and modern thrash do have a lot to offer…Fans of Pro-Pain, Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, Machine Head and a wide variety of modern metal bands should definitely check out this potent debut album.” – 4/5 – MetalMusicArchives

“What BornBroken have done here is create an album that ticks pretty much every box on the seriously heavy tick sheet, managing to put together an album which is heavy, melodic, dark, haunting, and yet uplifting at the same time. Representing the pain and angst that went into making it, this album will connect with your soul, and remind you of what heavy is.” – Loud-Stuff.com

“I was digging these guys all the way through and just wanted to keep playing the album over and over again. If you were to mixed elements of PANTERA, SEPULTURA, HATEBREED, SLAYER, LAMB OF GOD, HAVOK & SLIPKNOT together you would end up with BornBroken. They have been building up a following of fans in Canada and now are ready for the world. They have a fan for life in me now!” Beowolf Reviews

“The track Control has a super hooky melodic line that rides over a thicker groove.  It really fills my body with warmth while also making my blood boil.  This echoes with a bit of Gothenburg stylistic trappings without going overboard.  It really is a tasty riff.” – Nocturnal Cult

– 8/10 – Boulevard Brutal

“So watch for it. Listen to it. These Montreal Metal Thrash-core compadres are definitely onto something different, and not only with regard to the local scene, but for Metal in general. The BornBroken boys are biting off as much as they can chew by creating a heavy-duty concept album, fusing the powers of all their influences and generating a sound that fluctuates between latter day Sepultura and mid-career Lamb of God.”

– OndesChocs

“…At the first look, the album looks like a collector’s item.”
“…The Healing Powers of Hate as a sound comparable to the big names of the industry…I have the strong impression that everything was thought of on this CD. It’s a very well done album from A to Z. The Healing Powers of Hate from BornBroken is nothing less then a must!!” – Musique D’Une Nation

“BornBroken is the future of Québec Metal, with 10 titles to discover, even on stage, since the group demonstrates an uncanny and totally uncommon, energetic stage presence. They have poured their guts into the making of this introductory album, their own monies and a wealth of professionalism, which must be recognized. Bravo for an excellent album that one just doesn’t tire of listening to.”

About:

Great heavy metal doesn’t waste time, and Where Giants Once Stood have hit the ground running. This July, the Toronto metallers return with the video for their new single ‘Living in Security’, filmed on location in Toronto and directed by LoganSwinkels of Logan Lights Creative. An anthem for taking control of your own destiny, ‘Living in Security’ deconstructs small-town complacency and showcases the band’s most creatively ambitious material to date.

‘Living in Security’ is the first single to be taken from the new EP Live Above, due for release September 2, 2014. Live Above is the natural successor to 2013’s The Changing EP, which tore onto the iTunes metal charts in July 2013 with a debut at no.2, earning critical praise, sponsorship from Ernie Ball and a place on SoundSHOCK’s “Best of 2013” feature along the way. The four new tracks take Where Giants Once Stood’s signature sound of scorching guitar work, “assaultive underbeats” and“drill-sergeant vocals” to soaring new heights, thanks to incendiary production by Jon Howard of Threat Signal. “Since we started up last year, we’ve grown so much as musicians, as songwriters and as performers”, reveals lead guitarist Jordan Turnbull. “We knew the sound of this new material had to be something special to reflect that, and Jon Howard’s production has really taken the Giants sound to the next level!”

The release of Live Above will see W.G.O.S. hit the road this summer for their third independently-booked tour of Eastern Canada, as the band move from city to city and strength to strength to prove themselves as genuine contenders in the Canadian metal scene. For lead vocalist Reshaun Page, touring is a call-to-arms: “Now we’ve arrived, we’re not going anywhere! Canadian audiences are some of the best in the world, and we can’t wait to show metal fans the new material with our heaviest live shows yet!”

While W.G.O.S. have been winning fans on home turf with their frenetic live shows that have seen them share the stage with bands such as Chelsea Grin and Born of Osiris, social media is equally important to the band’s ethos as they use their online presence to connect with metal fans across the globe. Theirstellar YouTube channel featuring everything from interviews and lyric videos to exclusive cover songs and blistering instrumental playthroughs, while their Instagram and Twitter feeds provide to-the-minute studio and live updates. Guitarist Scott Major explains, “Whether it’s keeping up with us on tour through Twitter or rocking with us on YouTube, we want you to get the full Giants experience wherever you are!” [Bio by James Harding]

Where Giants Once Stood – Live Above (2014)

RIYL =  Avenged Sevenfold, The Human Abstract, August Burns Red, Trivium, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, As I Lay Dying, Miss May I

Release Date: September 2, 2014

Distribution: Online = Tunecore,  iTunes

“Where Giants Once Stood deliver fully on this energy packed EP but atop that, it is the band’s musical wit that makes Live Above an EP that stands out among others in the genre. Where Giants Once Stood is definitely a band to keep your eye on.” – We Love Metal

“Whether the Live Above EP is your introduction to Where Giants Once Stood or the next instalment on the journey already embraced, it thrusts the band to a new dramatic and impressive status within metal. Canada’s creative sons could and should be devoured by the wide metal world thanks to the EP” – Ring Master Review

“Canada has always had talented heavy metal and extreme metal bands take to the world’s stage and show off their killers talents, and Where Giants Once Stood are no exception to the rule. This quartet from Toronto, Canada plays a catchy and memorable style of heavy metal with an aggressive edge to their songs. This e.p. features four tracks that’ll want to make you stage dive with their headbanging rhythms and a drumming style that only adds more fire power to this quartet’s heavy metal music.” – Explicitly Intense

“This is great Canadian Metal and if you’re looking for something new look no further, WHERE GIANTS ONCE STOOD are new to the turf but will soon make it their own that’s for sure. If you like the idea of a ton of different sections of metal coming together to form one monster then this is it.” – Metal Temple

“This album is nothing but a delight to listen to, with 19 minutes of pure rowchy metalcore, once it’s over it only leaves us begging for more… Brilliant melodic metalcore very well built! The guitar work on this album is simply genius, twin guitar harmonies, dropped palm muted riffs, gut bustin legatos oh my god! That rocks so much! Vocals are both guttural and clean which is the main foundation of metalcore but usually in this kind of album the clean parts somehow annoy me but not in this one! It fits, it’s everything from classic melodic metal “a la” Iron Maiden to more contemporary brutality it’s just plain awesome!” – The Blood Shed

“Yeah, this EP (Live Above) is flawless in every way it deserves all the marbles it can! Great songs, great performance, great musicianship, great production… Nothing else to say… This is flawless!” – Canadian Beats

“A self-released offering with a mix of guttural growls, screams and clean vocals that are very reminiscent of early Killswitch Engage and The Human Abstract. Their style is very much their own however incorporating a bit of the technical guitar riffs with the heavy metal chugging, all of which blends well with smooth flowing bass lines and pounding drums that are sure to get you head-banging upon first listen.” – Damnation Magazine

“Live Above is a four-song EP. Where Giants Once Stood doesn’t go into preliminaries: an EP has a short duration and they don’t want to waste any time showing what they’re capable of. “Living in Secrity” immediately catches the attention with its guitar solo à-la-Unearth and its clean vocals à-la-Avenged Sevenfold during the chorus.” – Metal Made In Canada

The addition of Steve Burns and Jeff Boisvert on vocals has given BornBroken a new dimension as we move forward. BornBroken‘s debut album ‘The Healing Powers of Hate’ was released in June 2013. The album was fan voted as Album of The Week (June 10th) on Revolver Magazine, along with debuting #8 on Canadian College Loud Charts, plus being named one of the best unsigned Heavy Metal Bands for June 2013 by Drago’s Dungeon on About.com – Heavy Metal. They have also received great admiration from Yell Magazine! quoting ‘This is a debut metal album of epic proportions. Those who love hard, heavy, angry metal are in for a treat and may find a new favorite in BornBroken.’.

About:

Vancouver, BC prog metallers QUARTERED has teamed up with Idobi Howl for the premiere of their latest single ‘She Sees Colour’ from their upcoming album ‘Eyes And Ears’ due out on October 7th.

“She Sees Color is one of my personal favorites on this album. Before ever actually writing the album or going in to the studio to record it, I spent some time with someone personal who has synesthesia, the ability to hear/ see color when they listen to music. You know it was just one of those crazy moments when every word, and every action means something to you, that creates that still frame in your head that I will never forget, but you haven’t noticed yet. So in the end it lead me to wanting to recreate those colors again.” comments vocalist Greg Williams.

Quartered’s focus has always been on conveying moody emotion and mixing heavy grooves, experimental riffs, and hook-laden bridges to paint a picture with lyrics that tell a story while keeping one major goal in mind: longevity. Now the band is ready to unleash their third record, ‘Eyes and Ears’ they co-produced with Royce Whittaker at Spinnaker Sound and mark their return to the spotlight to follow up 2010’s ‘Walk Like A Ghost’ that was produced by Ben Kaplan (worked on projects with Mudvayne, Chevelle, Alexisonfire and Rise Against) and took the band on multiple Canadian and international tours, one of which saw them playing with Lamb of God and Testament at the 2010 Pulp Summer Slam festival (held in Manila, Philippines).

In additional news, Quartered will be performing at this year’s third annual Rain City Throwdown presented by Denyss McKnight of Crowsnest Productions and Cariboo Brewing at the Rickshaw Theatre on Sept 27th in Vancouver, BC alongside bands Take The Earth Beneath Us, The Body Politic, Wolfborne, Drop The Hate. Full details can be found here.

“Rain City Throwdown was an event born out of support for the local metal scene.  With a lack of mediums for bands to gain exposure, this was a no-brainer. An event for us by us.  One night of the year where we showcase Vancouver talent.  This event has given the local heavier acts a chance to perform together for one night, on one stage, for the fans. See you at the front, bring them dancing shoes.” comments vocalist Greg Williams

Show Dates:

Sept 27 – Vancouver, BC – Rickshaw Theatre (Rain City Throwdown)

About:

Thanks to a group of high school friends fusing their influences into one cohesive sound and the flip of a coin to help choose between band names, Vancouver progressive metal band Quartered’s moniker has certainly given itself meaning over the years.

Inspired by bands like Deftones, Tool and Thrice from early on – Quartered’s focus has always been on conveying moody emotion and mixing heavy grooves, experimental riffs, and hook-laden bridges to paint a picture with lyrics that tell a story while keeping one major goal in mind: longevity.

Following multiple Canadian and international tours, one of which saw them playing with Lamb of God and Testament at the 2010 Pulp Summer Slam festival (held in Manila, Philippines) and two full-length albums, The Falls of Autumn and Walks Like a Ghost, produced by Ben Kaplan (worked on projects with Mudvayne, Chevelle, Alexisonfire and Rise Against), Quartered is ready to unleash its third record, Eyes and Ears, on October 7th that was produced by them and Royce Whittaker at Spinnaker Sound.

Heavily influenced by “memories and how senses play a big part in connecting and helping us remember parts of our lives,” the title Eyes and Ears was chosen because “you can’t un-see the things you’ve witnessed and hearing is such a powerful way to trigger memories,” explains vocalist Greggor Williams.

““Blink Blink Flash”, as an intro, shows the trademark vocals from Greggor Williams, deviating from screams to melody in a matter of seconds. All the while, clanging and heavily distorted guitars crash around. I have to say, Quartered reminded of a hybrid of Glassjaw and Every Time I Die – that aint a bad thing!!” – All About The Rock

“I just love how the music is rich of nuances and rhythmic riffs. Not to mention the superb production. Highlights : “Blink blink flash”, “She sees colour”, “Take me there tonight”.” – Palace of Rock

“Their intense brand of progressive metal is what’s lacking in music today, the real deal….Quartered is, hands down, one a a very few select bands in this country that will go somewhere.” – Danger, 99.3FM The Fox (Vancouver, BC)

“Their live show has the energy of Alexisonfire, while their music reminds me of early Deftones. They are definitely one of Vancouver’s top 5 heavy bands.” – Christian Aldred, Rednyne Productions (Vancouver, BC)

“…put them on stage – as in their upcoming CD release performance at Vancouver’s media club – and they’ll win new converts with their sheer impassioned intensity alone.” – Peach Arch News (Surrey, BC)

“Quartered has an amazing history and accomplishments. On tour constantly and having tracks on Rockband are only a couple of great things this band has done… Great refined sound of a modern hard rock band. Elements of prog rock mixed in with metal to create a blend tastes which just flow into ones ears. Catchy hooks and sick riffs rekindled my love for Quartered as they blew away the crowd. Using boxes crafted to house lights to shoot up at them as they played they looked and sounded amazing. I could see Quartered rock a small venue, a theatre or even an arena and you would still get such an intimate feeling with such a personable band. ” – Hammer Records (Live Review)

“The perfect blend of brutality, melody and catchy hooks made for the perfect metal storm. Self described as progressive, Quartered never let the energy fall below maximum during their entire set. Through the constant tempo changes, occasional time signature madness and swift vocal style change ups they were proving that hype means nothing when all you’ve got is talent and the ability of writing a great and memorable metal song. So many bands, even seasoned veterans, lack stage presence but Quartered could write a how-to book on the subject. Engaging and attention grabbing, these guys know how to put on a show. Its not very often you see a band live, hearing them for the first time, and there is not a single thing to complain about. There is just something so intriguing with their hybrid sound of “Alive or Just Breathing” era Killswitch Engage and the progressive flair of Tool. With the peaks and valleys woven into their sound it keeps all eyes on stage at all times and all ears forever open, and that is something the night had been missing.” – Metal Underground (Live Review)

“Somewhere along the inspiration of other Canadian screamos Alexisonfire, see for yourself by listening to their newest single “Casa”” – Vancouver Music Review.

“Screamo modern metal with a complexed progressive edge is what I call this style of music from Vancouver based hard hitters Quartered.” – Fireworks Magazine

‘Walks Like A Ghost’ is an album packed with the perfect mix of heaviness and melody, creating songs that contain elements of progressive metal, post-rock, metalcore, and in some short instances; alternative doom.” – Metal Underground

“They are not only one of the most talented bands I have had the honour of working with but are flexible, easy to deal with and I have never received anything other than the best reviews from venues that have hosted them with multiple requests to have them return again.”- Leanne Harrison, Sin Agency
