Facebook Fanpage – Blankfest Toronto

Blankfest Toronto’s primary goal is to collect blankets, socks, underwear and non-perishable food for the homeless in Toronto. Toronto’s winter months are known for having temperatures well below zero and those who are homeless run the risk of frostbite and possible death due to overexposure. Blankfest Toronto aims to aid those who are less fortunate and keeps the homeless warm while living on the streets.
Blankfest was founded by New York City indie rock veteran Kenn Rowell of The Baghdaddios, founding Blankfest in 1997 and organizing an annual blanket fundraiser in New York City.

In the past, Rowell says, Blank-Fest NYC has raised more than 6,000 total donations that have been distributed to the homeless in the New York City area and has inspired similar efforts in New Jersey, Manhattan and Nottingham, UK. Among the many distinguished artists who have performed at past international Blank-Fests are: Rothberg (EMI), Buddy Cage (Grateful Dead), Marc Rizzo (Soulfly) and Meg Griffin (Sirius Radio)

About The Bands:

Baghdaddios(NYC) – http://www.baghdaddios.com

Let’s face it: you either know them or you don’t. They’ve been around for a million years. They’ve released a billion albums. They’ve played all over the U.S. and the UK England. They’ve been all over TV and radio in the U.S and UK. Their songs are great. Their shows are fun. And you either “get” them or you don’t.

Modified (Toronto)- http://www.myspace.com/modifiedband

Modified’s Metal-laced guitars and tight rhythms mesh with infectious melodies and dark lyrics, delivered by sultry vocals of Trish. Modified have come into their own sound and style, and strive to stand out in a landscape cluttered by followers and sound-alikes. Their first EP “Cruel Temptation” has garnered them some very favourable media attention, an ever-growing fan base.

Playdeaf (Toronto) – http://www.playdeaf.com/

With a sound that has been described as dark, heavy and brooding, Playdeaf’s contribution to the Canadian music scene is unquestionable. “In its purest form, Rock should be a mix of melody, lyric and voice with a sound so pure and tantalizing.” Says front man Jeff Payne, and by all accounts, Playdeaf is the embodiment of this definition. Now, the Toronto based trio is poised to take a great musical leap forward with the launch of their EP and supporting music video, Anna Nicole.
Falling Anvils (Montreal) – http://www.myspace.com/fallinganvils
Any musician would agree that it is hard to find a perfect fit for a band. This is probably the main reason why many musicians end up playing solo. Falling Anvils is a regroupment of four musicians who could not give up their dream, and with all the obstacles in the music industry ,managed to get over them. All this with one purpose, play live, explore , record and share their sound of heavy ass kicking music.
All Else Fails (Edmonton) – http://www.myspace.com/allelsefailscanada
Socially conscious, lyrically poetic, and rife with apocalyptic symbolism, ALL ELSE FAILS is poised to take our world by storm. Playing an aggressively dark blend of punk and metal, this up and coming Edmonton based band breaks the traditional ideals of their genre by incorporating experimental elements into their music, including the use of orchestration, classical music, synth based sequences, and spoken word samples. This is a melodic metal for a new audience that is beyond the norm.
Crooked Valentine (Toronto) – http://www.myspace.com/crookedvalentinemusic
Out of the darkness crawls Toronto’s new Hard Rock band to the scene, Crooked Valentine. Fronted by wild woman Valentine, C.C Spit on guitars, Lady Machete on drums and Joe Bass (his name says it all), Crooked Valentine combines industrial-metal vitriol with hard rock chops and sassy in-your-face hooks.
Manahan (Toronto) – http://www.myspace.com/corymanahan
Manahan has quickly begun to lay a path to metal stardom. With stylistic influences ranging from Pantera to Slayer and Metallica to Megadeth, Manahan create a unique sound hard to group into any category. With the new album entitled “Commence” newly released, Manahan are set to take on the world. “Commence” provides an artistic in depth look at some of the darkest sides of society. Manahan are ready and poised to continue their trek to the top. It’s been a non stop thrill ride for the young trio, and only time will tell where they will end up.
