One Champion To Play At Wacken Open Air 2018

For over a decade at the world’s largest outdoor metal festival Wacken Open Air, independent metal bands from around the globe have been performing in front of thousands and competing against one another for one to be crowned champion of the world along with winning multiple prizes (prizes info). For the second year, Wacken Metal Battle USA is returning to America and will be hosting qualifying rounds in select cities across the nation. The national champion of those battles will perform at the 2018 festival taking place from August 2nd – 4th in Wacken, Germany.

Last year’s battle saw the best from the Philadelphia and Boston areas, Corpse Hoarder, Goblet, Power Theory, and Upheaval perform in the national final. Crowned champions were Philadelphia’s Corpse Hoarder whom performed a furious set at the 2017 Wacken Open Air.

Wacken Metal Battle USA is part of an international competition that sees bands from across the country battle each other for the chance of winning their spot among 29 other countries’ champions, and representing the USA in an international battle of the bands at the world’s largest outdoor metal festival: Wacken Open Air, which has been taking place in Wacken , Germany for the last 28 years. The winner of Wacken Metal Battle USA will perform at the 2018 festival taking place from August 2nd – 4th.
How it works:
Participating cities will host qualifying rounds plus a city final organized by a local city concert promoter where one band will move forward to the American national final in New York City (date to be determined). The winner of the national final will move on to perform at the 29th edition of Wacken Open Air, and compete against the winners of 29 other countries in a final global battle. All bands will be judged during battle rounds by respected local music industry representatives.

Sonic Prophecy takes influences from the Great Old Gods of the Pantheon of Heavy Metal! Their aim…to join their inspirations on those giddy Olympian Heights and bring the glory of heavy metal down to Earth! Sonic Prophecy describes their music as, “thematic power-infused heavy metal.”
Formed in 2008, and inspired by the likes of Dio, Iron Maiden, Manowar, Black Sabbath, Iced Earth, Sonic Prophecy has released two fine, well-received albums, ‘A Divine Act of War’ and ‘Apocalyptic Promenade’, and now prepare to unleash their third, ‘Savage Gods’, through the mighty Rockshots Records on January 18th 2018. This album builds on the firm foundations created by its predecessors; but expands Sonic Prophecy’s sound into further realms musically and lyrically.
Sonic Prophecy, are like Iron Maiden, a larger than life band, inspired by this world but very much creating their own. As vocalist Shane Provstgaard states proudly. “We formed to play Heavy Metal, we have always played Heavy Metal, and we always will play Heavy Metal!”
Shane is stoked for fans to hear ‘Savage Gods’. “Our fans will love this album. As a record it combines all of the things people liked about our previous releases and then moves us forward into new areas musically and lyrically.”
It’s in the live arena that Sonic Prophecy really lay down the law. “We realise that people’s time and money are important and that they are a show to be entertained. We give every show 100% regardless of whether the crowd is twenty people or thousands of people. We also approach our live shows as fans of Heavy Metal, knowing that we represent, on some level, all of the influences that came before us. Since their inception in 2004, American-Brazilian extreme fight metal act ENDRAH have managed to advance the boundaries of hardcore and death metal into a highly technical, brutal and overwhelming combination. Over the years, they have unleashed five releases, “Demonstration” (2004), “Endrah” (2016) (Coretex Records (EU), Dynamo Records (BR)), “The Culling” (2012) plus single “Cadáver na Barragem’ (2012) and “Shoot, Shovel, Shut Up” EP (2016).
Currently working on their next album, ENDRAH have posted a music video for their new single “Your Life Deleted”, which features the debut of their new drummer Henrique Pucci, a former member of Paura and Project46. The track was produced by Tiago Hospede with cover art by Hugo Silva (Abacrombie Ink).

Brazilian thrashers WORSIS have posted a new lyric video for their track “Sisyphus“, which is off their debut album “Blinded By The System” released this past September. Recorded at Black Stork Studio with producer Thiago Caurio (Astafix) with mixing done by Benhur Lima (ex-Hibria) and mastering by Marcel van der Zwam, the 11 track headbanger also includes two moshers in Portuguese. Cover art was created by Hugo Silva, from Abacrombie Ink.
