BIO:

No good could possibly come out of the frigid Northern lands of Alberta, you say? Well, sorry to tell you, there’s an exception to every rule. Enter smoldering power-thrash five-piece Edge of Attack.

Combining haunting vocals, shredding guitars, complex bass lines, furious drumming and choral and symphonic arrangements with surprising depth, Edge of Attack has not only taken the metal scene by storm, but also by surprise. Having been featured in Revolver magazine, you’d think the band has surely been around for years, but truth be told, they’ve accomplished all this while releasing no more than two singles.

Representing the changes that have taken place and the reinvention of Edge of Attack’s sound, the self-titled album, which was produced by guitarist/vocalist Jurekk Whipple himself and is soon to be released with Spread the Metal Records, is, simply put, a reawakening and rebirthing of power metal with thrash creeping its way into the picture.

About:

There’s something to be said for fate in the music world. One moment you’re left with the skeleton of a band, unsure when you’ll be able to follow your calling again, the next you’ve got a whole new line-up, a brand new home, a stronger, more defined sound and are recording with some of the biggest names in the industry. This is the tale of The Rabid Whole.

Disenchanted with playing in bands whose music was unchallenging and run of the mill, vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Andreas Weiss set out to remedy his predicament. Purchasing an arsenal of music and noise-making gadgets, he began writing songs for his own band’s 2009 debut album, Autramaton.

Recruiting musicians along the way, the first incarnation of The Rabid Whole was solidified, releasing their first album and touring Canada, sharing the stage with the likes of The Birthday Massacre, Econoline Crush, Hinder, Apoptygma Berzerk, and 16Volt.

But that’s when things began to take a turn. Following the departure of several band members, Weiss decided to leave his hometown of Regina, SK behind, taking a leap of faith and moving to Toronto, ON along with guitarist and founding member George Radutu.

Through some lucky online ads, he discovered drummer JJ Tartaglia and bass guitarist Oscar Anesetti while a Christmas trip back home to Regina put him face-to-face with Chalsey Noelle, a friend of a friend looking for a new career path after quitting her job. Wouldn’t you know it – Noelle was a talented keyboardist and vocalist.

Now, the new and improved Rabid Whole is set to release their second album, Refuge, on May 1, 2012. A direct reflection of the emotional and external changes of Weiss’ journey, the album deals with relatable themes.

“I sold my house, quit my engineering consultant job and moved…We were starting from square one again, but with more uncertainties than ever and weren’t sure when we would even have a full band again. Part of the writing had begun randomly scattered over the past couple of years, but the majority came right after the move. I set up the studio in the basement of my house and got to work. I didn’t leave the house for two months and wrote from the moment I’d wake up until I’d fall asleep,” says Weiss.

Recorded and produced by Karl Schubach (Misery Signals, Solace), mixed by Dave Ogilvie (Jakalope, Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson) and mastered by Noah Mintz (Broken Social Scene, Death From Above 1979), the finished product delivers rock and electronic elements pushed to the max, a male and female vocal showdown and, as Weiss puts it, showcases “a 21st century, high-energy, electro alternative, orgasmic-punch-in-the-face-rock band.”

Isn’t it time you fell down the rabid whole?

Prog Rockers FEN Post New Video ‘Of Losing Interest’

Top Left to Right – Guitars/Vocals: Doug Harrison | Bass: Jeff Caron,

Bottom Left to Right – Drums: Nando Polesel | Lead Guitars/Backing Vocals: Sam Levin

Vancouver progressive rockers FEN have posted a video for their title track from their fifth and latest album ‘Of Losing Interest’ released last summer via indie label Ripple Music to follow up their fourth release ‘Trails Out Of Gloom’.

“The song ‘Of Losing Interest’ broke new ground for us. We didn’t try to shape it into some convoluted or grandiose structure. We just let the riff be a riff and do its job and we kept the dynamics fairly steady throughout. At one point I considered titling the song, The Grump, based on the fact that the lyrics are from the perspective of someone who detests social interactions and does what he can to either cut them short or avoid them altogether. Overall, the video is a lofi attempt to reveal what might be inside his head.” comments vocalist / guitarist Doug Harrison.

To view the video, please visit the following link below.

Their heaviest and most technical album to date, ‘Of Losing Interest’ is an album that revisits the band’s harder edged metallic past while retaining the melodic sensibilities that made ‘Trails Out of Gloom’ so alluring. Co-Produced by Mike Southworth, his fourth with the band, ‘Of Losing Interest’ is a contrast of technical virtuosity layered against warm low end organics.

Track Listing: Of Losing Interest

1. Riddled 03:55
2. Of Losing Interest 04:59
3. Nice For Three Days 04:04
4. A Long Line 04:43
5. The Glove 03:23
6. Drunken Relief 04:26
7. Light Up The End 03:34
8. Pilot Plant 06:03
9. Snake Path 03:17

Show Dates:

About:

In January of 1998, in the mountain shadows of Nelson, British Columbia, a creatorship emerged called Fen. The road has been long for this dark-leaning band, which after more than a decade of obscurity, was finally ushered into the prog and metal fan’s psyche. This occurred in 2010, when Fen signed to California label Ripple music and released their fourth album Trails Out Of Gloom. The album garnered impressive reviews from bloggers and print magazines worldwide, including mention in the UK’s Classic Rock magazine and a perfect 16/16 score from the US authority on prog: Progressions Magazine. To follow up this attention, in May of 2011, the management of UK/Israeli prog veterans Blackfield invited Fen to open for them on the Vancouver stop of their North American tour.

To date, Fen’s music has sold in more than fifteen countries, and with the help of dedicated bloggers, two AAA-radio campaigns, and a music video for the single “Miracle,” the band’s following continues to expand. In surprising contrast to the dark nature of Fen’s music, their songs have been placed on HGTV (Home and Garden Television) and Animal Planet’s, From Underdog to Wonderdog, among others. The song “Through the Night” will soon be available on the video game RockBand.

Fen has performed at clubs and festivals throughout BC, and in the summer of 2011, took part in the Forest Symphony at UBC’s Pacific Spirit Park. Fen’s fifth album, Of Losing Interest, will be available in August 2012, and is a return to the heavier aspects of the bands sound. It is their second release under the Ripple Music label, and it brings together a band line up first assembled in 1999.
