BornBroken was formed with one simple mission in mind: Help the masses find a voice, a face, an “X” that marks the spot through the sounds of beating skins, metal strings and broken chords.
After months of writing and hours spent in the studio, BornBrokenmanaged to take every emotion they felt, put it to music, build off of past battle scars and create a record where listeners will feel they are part of the storyline.
On their debut album, The Healing Powers of Hate, BornBroken play out not only what life has given them but also what they want to give back: truth, integrity, perseverance, loyalty and faith in humanity’s struggle for equality.

Rising out of Montreal’s bubbling metal underground, it can be said that Unbeing have been through it all. Starting out as a three-piece, members came and went, two demos were released to an overwhelmingly positive response, the band won Metal Académie 2 – a two-month-long competition where the band impressed both the audience and esteemed metal judges such as Kataklysm to take home top honors – then decided to shake things up again. Taking the judges’ advice to heart, Unbeing opted to no longer continue sacrificing their creative liberties, removing vocals all-together to finally discovered its true nature in the form of a five-piece ProgEpic InstruMetal band.
But alas, seven years after the birthing cries of Unbeing tore holes in the fabric of space and time, individually and as a whole, they have overcome hardships, laughed in the face of danger and stomped on the charred corpse of impossibility. In 2011, the band released its debut full-length album before solidifying its name in the metal community as a five-piece outfit.
In additional news, the band will be hosting a launch show with The Heavy Metal Music Association of Canada, Pop Montreal, Dungeonworks Productions and label BLK COQ Music on September 27th at Foufounes Electriques. The band will be supported by brass metal band Fallstaf, the industrial sounds of Ogenix, the aggressive tendencies of Burning The Oppressor, and fellow prog influenced band Our Souls Evolve.

Infection Legacy – #8 on Top 20 of 2013 Albums – Metal Made In Canada
“Some very good things are happening in Western Canadian metal these days, and Edmonton’s Death Toll Rising have come through with a very impressive second album. While rooted in death metal, they occasionally dip into thrash groove and progressive metal technicality, which you don’t see very often, and which gives the music a good, dynamic quality. Savage one minute, intricate the next, the quality on this record is well above your average self-released album, a true diamond in the rough. Don’t miss out on it.” DeciBlog / Decibel Magazine
“A Canadian powerhouse that have been perfecting their destructive arts for a decade now. ‘Infection Legacy’ demonstrates all the poise and proficiency you’d expect from such an experienced outfit, with each song being a perfectly constructed weapon of mass destruction. Death and thrash metal have welded into nine fearsome tracks, peppered with some superb guitar-work and devastating drumming throughout. ‘Scorched Earth Policy’ sums up all the band’s attributes nicely, but there are no weaknesses to be found anywhere. Cannibal Corpse and Slayer blended with individual vision and delivered with ruthless precision.’ – Zero Tolerance Magazine
“The production is expectedly clean and punishing, with battering double kick running like a stampede through the album, which kicks off with the title track. The guitar sound is a razor-sharp, jagged to the point of causing aural lacerations, and my thoughts shifted quite quickly to the likes of US act Revocation, with a focus on bouncing riffs and thundering melodies. ‘Scorched Earth Policy’ is a striking riff fest, with hook after hook inundating the listener like a boulder avalanche, making this a very guitar friendly album for those preferring multiple riffs, though it is not a tech death metal release by any means. ‘Crack Open A Cold One’ has scorching lead that fits so snugly into the song dynamics, you hardly notice, as this song, and the album as a whole, flows so smoothly, despite being heavier than the gravity pull of black hole.” – Powerplay Magazine
“I love this album, it is forty-five minutes of full tilt death/thrash excitement.” 5/5 – Metal Talk
“Infection Legacy sticks out from the pack for its meticulous riffing, well crafted hooks, and elements of thrash and progressive metal.” – Edmonton Sun
“Charging riffs, intense growling vocals, chaotic soloing and hard-hitting blast beats. Seems it’s all here. And the legends that came before them would be proud. Sounds like: Devin Townsend hitting up a jam with the late, great Chuck Schuldiner. ” – Scott Jones – Alan Cross : Professional Music Geek: A Journal of Musical Things
“Death Toll Rising is the lone death metal album making the cut, displaying a strong grasp of what the brutal brothers enjoy without the widdly fluff or boring bork-downs.” – Invisible Oranges
“Death Toll Rising is a two-headed monster that won’t even let you take a breath” – Against Magazine
“”Infection Legacy is, in every respect, a step forward for these Edmontonians. Better production, better instrumentation, the almost machine-gun drumming of Bryan Newbury and the prog/death guitars of Tylor Dory took DTR from being a good band, to being an excellent band.” – Goetia Media
“Infection Legacy is an unbelievable slab of bone-breaking, thrashing death metal that takes no prisoners and instantly pounds the listener into submission. The title track begins spreading the communicable disease with a fast-paced, crushing riff and eerie unnatural guttural growls, and from there the contagion grows like wildfire infecting your ears and eventually your psyche.
From a musical standpoint Infection Legacy is about as technical as it is heavy, with laser precision fret board wizardry that slices through the chaos like a hot knife through butter and drums that carry the rhythms along at a neck-snapping pace. It does not stop there though because the shock value continues on in the blood-soaked, carnage-filled lyrics that would easily fit into a Cannibal Corpse, Autopsy, or Exhumed record – by the end of it all the images that were conjured up made me feel as if I needed a shower to wash away all the filth!” – PureGrainAudio.com
“Death Toll Rising have presented us with an insane album and I just can’t stop listening to it! Every song on that record is good. Influences range from Suffocation and Necrophagist to things like Arsis and even some extreme thrash in there…I’d give this album a very high 9/10 for amazing song writing, great musical talents, spot on production and a very solid overall theme. The album sounds like a complete piece, well thought out and consistent. If these guys are ever nearby, I’ll be in the front row. No questions asked.” – Metal Made In Canada
“For fans of aggressive death and thrash metal this album gives plenty to enjoy. Most of the songs just pound away, the drums leading the charge. Instead of a straight ahead death metal album, however, this band like to mix things up with interspersed lead dual guitar lines, occasional tempo changes, and hints of melody. On the whole it makes for good listening. I recommend checking out tracks like “Slaughter to Survive” and “Revelation Despair.”…This is a strong album from a band that continues to grow and mature with each new release.” – Sea of Tranquility
“If you’re a fan of bands like Carcass, Death, Strapping Young Lad, At The Gates, etc, you definitely want to check this one out. ” – Kosher Metal
“Infection Legacy is a fine example of a thrashing death metal album that delivers in all departments.” – Metal Forces Magazine
“Infection Legacy starts off with a bang and holds that energy up until the albums end. From the get go you’ll notice how clean and well rounded the production is. Each and every instrument is blended perfectly and works well to build a complete sound.” – Emurg
“Filled with deep and heavy riffs, ferocious energetic drum beats and intense angry Growls” – Kingston Music Reviews
“DTR sound fresh and modern. Ripping solos and scorching runs balanced by burliness and grit. It’s a formula bound to ensnare plenty of death metal fans.” – Kingdom of Noise
“I want to start off by saying that the drums on this album are top notch!! Right when the music started on the Title track “Infection Legacy” I was blown away by the intensity and fluidity of the drumming that is displayed. I literally have nothing bad or critical to say about the drums. Everything that a death metal band can ask for is already there! As far as the guitar work goes…Holy crap. Not only is it heavy as hell but the guitarists convey different moods in each of the song through variations in their riffage.” – Extreme Metal TV
“Infection legacy is going to be a great addition to many a metal heads death or thrash collections and has enough proggy guitar in it to also appeal to prog fans who don;t mind their music to be a bit thrashy with it. I’ve listened to the album four times now and every time I just find myself sitting there going ‘this is brilliant’ and headbanging away.” – Wyrd Ways Rock Show Review
“These guys have hit things “just right” for the death metal majority. “Infection Legacy” has songs redolent of classic American death metal like Malevolent Creation and Immolation, with not a wimpy, wasted moment to be found…Of all Canadian independent metal efforts I’ve heard recently, “Infection Legacy” is the most fully realized and pleasingly coherent. An album to be enjoyed by all death metal fans and perhaps even more…” – Wormwood Chronicles
“This third album from Canada’s DTR is as good a slice of death metal mayhem as you are going to hear this year. Packed solid with soaring riffs, which succeed in holding the right mix of melody within their overall context of bombastic beatdowns and crushing themes, the band also succeed in introducing subtle black metal motifs which intertwine into their ambitious sound with an effective resonance. Vocalist Jesse Berube is especially effective in the subtle intensity of his brutality, while drummer Bryan Newbury also deserves mention for his stunningly precise performance.” – Planet Mosh
“As I listened to the title track from Death Toll Rising’s newest album,Infection Legacy, something clicked. As the guitar wailed into the solo, there was a remarkable melodic sensibility to it. The care given to each note and the smoothness in which they were played gave the section a tender, singable quality, contrasting brilliantly with the pummeling viciousness of the rest of the song. This quickly set me to reminiscing about the similar considerations to melody and precision riffing that were so common in later albums written by Chuck Schuldiner and Death. This sophomore release finds the Edmonton, Alberta, Canada-based boys in top form, bringing with them an almost unending wave of aggression to sate the palettes of death metal enthusiasts.” – Target Audience Magazine
“Combining burly rhythms with charging riffs, Death Toll Rising deliver each track with a sense of urgency and energetic ferocity.” – Mouth For War (Review of 2010’s Defecation Suffocation)
“awe inspiring power that is hard to ignore…Death Toll Rising is a band on the verge of having the world seeing them.” – Metal Bite (Review of 2010’s Defecation Suffocation)
“Plying a form of death metal that mixes equal parts Floridian complexity (Cannibal Corpse maybe?) and Belgian chunk,” – Teeth of The Divine (Review of 2010’s Defecation Suffocation)
“packed with intense straight forward Death Metal that cover the typical topics of death, baby murder, and suffocation by feces!” – Apochs (Review of 2010’s Defecation Suffocation)
“Longest reigning and best death metal band in Alberta” – Terese Fleming, Noctis Festival organizer & Scarab Productions

Featuring a combination of Death and Thrash metal, Edmonton-based Death Toll Rising are known to devastate their audiences with their high octane, energetic performances, having shared the stage with high profile names such as KATAKLYSM, CRYPTOPSY, THE HAUNTED, and ABORTED (to name a few).
Originally formed in 2003 in Stony Plain, AB, Canada, they have been grinding the Western Canadian metal scene steadily, gaining huge momentum over the last 3 years. New addition Tylor Dory on guitars has introduced a technical and progressive element to the band they have not had in the past. Add in the intense and relentless drumming provided by Bryan Newbury (recently recruited by Canadian Prog/Death powerhouse INTO ETERNITY), as well as the well-rounded rhythm provided by Drew Copeland on guitar and Mike Puff on bass, and you get a monster that is only now being unleashed upon the masses. Vocalist Jesse Berube tops things off with a combination of brutal death growls and Tomas Lindberg-esqe high shrieks.
After a successful string of shows and tours throughout 2010 and 2011, in support of their first full length album “Defecation Suffocation”, Death Toll Rising went back to the studio to record their follow up sophomore release ‘Infection Legacy’, now set to be unleashed this coming October 2013.

Australia’s grunge rocking Arcane Saints have confirmed their first of many shows to be performed at this year’s INDIE WEEK Canada (October 16-20) in Toronto, ON.
The band’s first show at the fest has been scheduled at Underground Garage (365 King Street West) on Friday, October 18th. The band will be showcasing between 11:00pm – 11:30pm.
Show details can be found at the following link with updates to come: https://www.facebook.com/events/379371935498522/
Vocalist / guitarist Michael John comments:
“Our Canada tour last year was a massive highlight for Arcane Saints. Travelling all the way from Australia was a huge gamble for an indie band like us, but we were really impressed by how passionate and supportive of live music the audiences were. We’re delighted to be invited to play Indie Week Canada this year and are looking forward to rocking the great city of Toronto again!”
Arcane Saints released their debut album ‘Turning The Tide‘ earlier this summer on July 26th via Firestarter Distribution. The album is a rich blend of grunge, blues and metal combined with a pop rock sensibility and produced by multi-Grammy Award winning producer Toby Wright (Metallica, Kiss, Korn, Alice In Chains) whom after hearing their earlier singles on US radio, invited the Arcane Saints to his hometown of Nashville, TN to record their debut. Toby was a close friend of the late Layne Stayley, singer of Alice In Chains and delighted Arcane Saints by allowing them to use a microphone once owned by the late grunge legend during the recording. In addition to recording, a chance late night meeting in a Nashville bar also lead to Peter Keys (pianist from the legendary Lynyrd Skynyrd) making a guest appearance on the album.
Upon its release the album spent 10 days at number one on the sales charts at Waterfront Records, one of Australia’s largest online music retailers. Shortly afterwards, the band became the first Australian band to grace the cover of USA’s Music Insider Magazine.

About:
As a relative of Iron Maiden founding member Steve Harris, music was always in singer/guitarist Michael John’s blood. Although born in the UK, he grew up in New Zealand. After winning The Pacific International Song Writing Competition, Michael spent the prize money on a one way ticket to Melbourne, Australia. Shortly afterwards, he formed Arcane Saints.
Following a few early line up changes, Michael “Sheep” Gooding joined the band as lead guitarist after impressing them with his guitar skills and rock n’ roll hair. Originally from a small town in the outback of Australia, Sheep conquered his boredom in the desert town by honing his guitar skills. Several different drummers came and went before the band finally found their ideal, hard hitting drummer in Sam Sablinskis. With a professional percussionist as a father, Sam was always going to be an accomplished musician.
After a serious injury forced their long term bassist to leave the band, Steve Malone took over bass duties. He had met the others when his previous band was on the same bill at a festival in China. With his simplistic, solid bass playing he was a perfect fit for Arcane Saints.
In a rock scene that is contrived, fake and lacking in “danger,” perhaps the tide is finally turning.

TRIBUNE Set To Release Author Inspired Album ‘Tales’; Streaming New Track ‘From Funeral To Funeral’

Over the past nine years, Vancouver, BC’s TRIBUNE has been progressively combining its myriad of influences into a genre-shattering whole and etching away at a sound all its own. Now, the band’s efforts have culminated in their third full-length record, Tales set for release October 29th via their indie label Corpse Corrosion Music, which is available for pre-order at the following link.
Album Pre-Order: http://tribune.bandcamp.com/
The nine-track concept album has been inspired by the writings of some of the world’s most renowned authors, including H.P. Lovecraft, H.G. Wells, Homer among many others, but the result is strictly TRIBUNE.
Exploring a more melodic and progressive sound than ever before, but still staying true to the group’s extreme aggression roots, Tales, the follow-up to 2011’s Elder Lore/The Dark Arts, demonstrates TRIBUNE’s brawn and brains with a collusion of extremity and accessibility.
As the band’s appetite for more extreme metal increased, bands like Carcass, Death and At The Gates began bleeding into their melting pot of influences, resulting in a fresh take on their fine metal sound, which can be heard echoing in the depths ofTRIBUNE’s Tales.
Tribune is now streaming the first single from the album ‘From Funeral To Funeral’at the following links:
