‘No Beer In Heaven’ is the follow up to 2011’s ‘Marzena’ EP and 2009’s debut ‘Ancestral Anthems’ by the Eastern European transplants. Featuring twelve tracks diving into themes of drinking, history and human endeavor, PROTOKULT mix a duo vocal attack of melodic operatics plus woodwinds from Ekaterina Pyatkova and high spirited chanting growls from guitarist Martin Drozd to showcase a diversified and powerful engagement that includes the shredding of guitarist Vodnik, the pounding force of Mike Matveev on drums and the grooves of bassist Dawid Slowiak.

About:

As interests in history, paganism and folklore took an increasingly strong hold on folk metallers PROTOKULT, the band was inspired to unleash its debut album, Ancestral Anthems. With the first two pressings selling out in months, they vowed to take things to the next level while continuing to deliver a unique mix of Canadian and international influences.

PROTOKULT’s goal? To unite its members’ diverse cultures into one sound, balancing tradition and folklore with heavy, thrash and black metal for headbangers everywhere.

Over the past few years, the ever-evolving PROTOKULT has graced the stage with the likes of ARKONA, TURISAS, ALESTORM, BLACKGUARD (formerly Profugus Mortis) and WILL OF THE ANCIENTS and now they’re ready to unveil a full-length follow-up to 2011 EP Marzena.

With a beauty and the beast-like contrast between Ekaterina’s haunting vocals and the band’s metal onslaught, No Beer In Heaven, which is slated for an August 8 release, captures the reformed quintet at an all-time high, showcasing an impressive palette of entirely new compositions, and straps the listener on an adventurous, heavy and experimental trek, diving into themes of drinking, history and human endeavor.

About:

Formed when three Newfoundlanders crossed paths in the Canadian heavy metal capital with Ahmed Saad who hails from the Middle East, the injection of music immediately began to flow through their veins and M.E.C.H. metal was soon born.

“It stands for Middle East Coast Heavy Metal; Our drummer being from the Middle East and the rest of the members being from the east coast of Canada,” explains Stephen Reynolds (bass, vocals). ‘Every single person in this band is a songwriter, so the songs come out with their own feel and develop naturally.’ continues Reynolds. ‘We don’t shackle ourselves to any kind of focused idea, which brings about a sort of honesty in the music not often found in metal.’

DISPARAGER vocalist / guitarist Chris AhKao has posted a video comment on facebook where he addresses his recent injury of fracturing his L2 vertebrae and cancelling their upcoming show on July 27th at The Acheron in NYC.

In additional news, the post rock metal band recently unleashed a new lyric video ‘RIP Bill Hicks’ from their debut EP ‘Timeless, Ageless’ produced by Jay Maas (Defeater, Bane, H2O, American Nightmare, Polar Bear Club).

Lyric Video – RIP Bill Hicks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVGAWd57KFs

Vocalist / guitarist Chris Ahkao comments:
“R.I.P. Bill Hicks is about letting go of something that is wrong for you, even if the act of letting go, the decision to let go, and everything leading up to that decision is hard.  Comfort and familiarity are nice, but allowing those feelings to steer your life treads dangerously close to living in fear.  Our days are precious and few and we must decide what is worth our time.”

Show Dates:

DISPARAGER CANCELLED ON SHOW – July 27 @ The Acheron – Brooklyn, NY w/ Blackest,  Warm, Dead Empires

Formed just last year, DISPARAGER has always had the crazy notion that music is art and that art is never a means to an end but an end in itself. As an extension of frontman Chris AhKao regaining his life from personal demons, this debut EP is a testament to that. Bursting with dense rawness and precision while pushing the boundaries of metal with tracks like “At Least I Still Have Bon Iver” – half folk song, half crushing mix of Isis and Slayer – and “Pictures” – a time signature mindfuck the band is proud NOT to call prog rock. The music is meant to showcase a refusal to settle, to compromise, to live any other life than that inspired by unwavering intent, self-expression and integrity.

“A collision of soul-scorching hard rock with speed-fueled thrash metal. This is music that’s loud, dirty, raw, and played at a breakneck pace. Just think Motorhead crashing head-on with Slayer.”- Exclaim Magazine

“The minute I pushed play and the first song Before The Devil Knows I’m Dead started… the very first thing that came to my mind was the southern hillbilly Thrash Rockin sound of the awesome opening song of Nashville Pussy‘s High As Hell album Struttin’ Cock… it has the same sense of party rockin’ the same nonchalence, i’m going to borrow the words that the greatLester Bangs once used to describe The Guess Who… ¨They have the courage to be drunken baffoons which makes them poetic¨ and that just describes these guys so well!!! ” The Blood Shed

“Hide your daughters, hide your wives, The Rough Boys are coming to town and they aren’t discreet!”” – Uysfaber.com

Japetus EP - photo band

L-R – Nick Richer (Drums and Backup Vocals ) – Nicolas Miquelon (Bass, Guitar and Vocals) – Photo Credit: Nick Richer

Gatineau, QC death, doom and sludge duo NORILSK consisting of Nicolas Miquelon (Damnus, The Great Russian Empire, ex-Kintra) and Nick Richer (Damnus, Doll, Outrage AD) are proud to announce the release of their debut EP ‘Japetus’, out today on July 22nd, which is available digitally as a pay what you want plus physically on limited edition CDs (only 100 printed).

Nicolas Miquelon (Bass, Guitar and Vocals) comments:

“Releasing the first EP of a new band always feels great; and it is particularly true with this one. Coming from a region where doom is slowly blooming on the metal horizon, Norilsk is for us like a different kind of seed springing out of the underground. Reactions to the songs have been very positive and we couldn’t be happier about the comments we received thus far.

From the huge sound to the clean layout and the simple vinyl looking packaging, we decided to press a very limited number of CDs, 100 to be precise, while making the digital version available on a pay-what-you-want basis. As records collectors, we like to think, aside from the quantity, that the exclusive Voivod cover gives the CD a rareness quality for fans to enjoy.

From the dramatic black and white 19th-Century photo of an ice shove in the port of Montreal to the duality of languages (French / English) and the frontier city where this band comes from (Gatineau QC / Ottawa ON), the whole EP has an underlying layer of contrasts under its weighty doom embrace.

Japetus is a good representation of what Norilsk is about: slow minimalistic death-doom metal with a few unorthodox elements, tainted in sludge. It doesn’t get any closer to what the future holds for this band—and like a harbinger of things to come, there are strong links between this CD and the upcoming full length.”

To get your FREE digital download plus order your limited edition copy of 1 of the 100 CDs printed, please visit the following link: http://norilskdoom.bandcamp.com/album/japetus

EP Length: 19:41

About:

Named after Siberia’s most northern city, NORILSK draws their inspirations and themes from Northern identity, isolation, and world demise. Incorporating elements of sludge and post-metal along with influences from doom-death metal bands such as Thergothon, Saturnus, and early My Dying Bride, the band is sharing with metal fans a taste of what’s to come in their debut EP ‘Japetus’.

Presented in a very limited CD edition and digital format, the ‘Japetus’ EP is both an introduction to the band and a teaser to future recordings. Clocking just under 20-minutes, the EP includes the title track ‘Japetus’, which will be on the band’s later planned full length album and also features one alternate version of ‘Potsdam Glo’along with a cover of Voivod‘s song ‘Negatron’, which is exclusively available on the CD.
