About:
EXES FOR EYES is a project born of an overwhelming amount of mutual respect and admiration between two men. A respect for one another’s work ethic, musical proficiency, stylistic taste and of course, for each other as people.
The concept of blindness, be it willing, involuntary, inherent or otherwise is so foreign and far removed from anything within the realm of experience for these men. However as the process has begun to create this music, it has become apparent how limited one’s own vision can be when staring at the broad side of limitless potential and ambition.
With the musical vision of Dave Sheldon (ex Man With Target, Annihilator) and the lyrical conception of vocalist and frontman Big James (Endast, Authors) the project is very quickly taking shape into something more than either anticipated. The hope is to see the world of metal in a new light, with EXES FOR EYES.

Progressive Metallers id. Streaming EP Title Track ‘Sagittarius A’; Due Out February 10th

Song Stream – Sagittarius A – http://idmusic9.bandcamp.com/album/sagittarius-a
With songwriting that is a progressive, heavy and catharsis, Vancouver, BC’s id. is a multi-layered metal force. Inspired by Sigmund Freud’s theory on the levels of the human psyche, the band’s front line introduction of their subconscious tendencies is unleashed in their debut EP ‘Sagittarius A’ due out Feb 10, 2015.
Written by guitarist Alex Dubreuil with words backed by Jason Pennington, the EP touches on topics such as inner struggle, world views, self-awareness to what’s beyond in outer space.
“We want people to connect with our message and enjoy the diversity of our sound. The music has evolved from quite unstructured abstract ideas to come around to find a comfort zone with no borders.” comments vocalist Jason Pennington.
Employing a style that is different compared to other progressive bands. id transcend genres in their four track debut, which features Vancouver metal scene veterans lyricist and vocalist Jason Pennington (Makaria), drummer Kris DeBoer (Grudge, Infernal Majesty, Artep), rhythm guitarist Tyson Araszewski (AutumnEx) and guitarist Alex Dubreuil (My Own Chaos) who also does bass on the EP.
With more songs in their arsenal for a full length to follow their EP and influenced by bands such as Opeth, Mastodon, Devin Townsend, Gojira, and Augury, id is sharing with metallers what’s to come as they push forward to put themselves on the map.
Band Fact: The story behind the EP Title: ‘Sagittarius A’ is the name of the black hole in the center of our galaxy. The idea comes from a fundamental belief in a scientific world view, free of religious influence and tyranny. It outlines how people are susceptible to believe things without evidence if it appeals to their vanity, as opposed to being presented with evidence and being able to accept something that is inherently contradictory to their intuition.

“…they’ve already become more-and other-than just another entity inspired by the likes of Nile, Morbid Angel, Suffocation, Vader and Cannibal Corpse. Much of Coils appeal resides in the band’s capacity for incorporating technique without coming off as merely technical. Madhavan’s a monster. Zubair is a master, consistently loading beautifully constructed solos with maximum emotional payloads to create genuinely memorable moments.” Decibel Magazine “They’re churning out death metal akin to heavyweights like Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Vader and Nile”- Deciblog (Decibel Magazine) “Bringing brutality to your ears from the Emirates, Nephelium’s natural habitat is quite clearly devastating death metal.” Terrorizer Magazine “First spawned in the desert sands of Dubai but since relocated to the snowy climes of Toronto, Nephelium offer up a bloody feast of brutal death metal as extreme as the temperature differences between their choices of location. Powered along by the intense blasting of ex-Nervecell drummer Alan Madhavan, these six convoluted songs combine supreme technicality with brutal bludgeoning power. With a multitude of neck-jarring twists and turns, a bucket-load of explosive riffs, and some sewer-dredging vocal savagery, Coils of Entropy has pretty much everything you can ask for from a slab of brutal, technical modern death metal.” – Zero Tolerance Magazine “”Coils of Entropy” is brutal, technical and fast.” – Powerplay Magazine “One of the best death metal albums you will hear this coming year. Superb release and I am looking forward to seeing them live some time soon. I would definitely recommend this to lovers of slow death metal in the vein of Grave, Bolt Thrower, Autopsy, Immolation and the like. Brilliant release.” – AlternativeMatter.net “Nephelium’s introduction to the headbanging masses is a completely solid choice for brutal death metal fans. “Coils of Entropy” keeps up the extreme heaviness necessary to please fans of straight death metal, and manages to throw in a good bit of complexity without getting pretentious or overly melodic.” – MetalUnderground.com “Brutal, sludgy, precise, dark, atmospheric, and surprisingly catchy, Nephelium tackle death metal with the precision of a surgeon’s hand, or a Jigsaw trap. If you’re looking for some new death metal to sink your teeth into, this is it….“Merciless Annihilation,” an intricate, tough-as-nails, riff-ridden, technical masterpiece.” – Yell! Magazine “Just straight up ripping, pummeling, brutal groovy death metal — no bells and whistles, just the way I like it.” – MetalSucks.net “If you’re tired of the same old shit, then it’s time to try something different and Nephelium certainly gave me that fix.” – WeLoveMetal.com “It’s brutal, it’s in your face, it’s new but old, it’s a must have in any metal heads library.” – XplosiveMetal.com “If you are a fan of death metal and like fast arrangements and tempo changes with blast beats and brutal riffs then this band is for you. Check out “Coils of Entropy”” – MetalDelirium.net “These guys hit it on the head, they nailed it. Its brutal and complex and definitely in your face” – MetalTitans.com “A fast-moving blast wave of hot shrapnel, with brutally addictive rhythms, flashy guitar leads and solos” – NoCleanSinging.com “It’s brutal shit done right….Nephelium is one of the many examples of a death metal band that plays the fuck out of their instruments, plays the fuck out of them well. Highlights: “Hellborne”, “Malediction”, and “Halls Of Judgement”” – Metalstorm.net “Instrumental brutality and a hearty sound of turbocharged guise.” – Metal.de “Brutal In Your Face Metal That Wants to Kick You In The Teeth!!!” – SPV and Metalville Records “WOW!!! This is what I call Crunchy!!! And it applys to both Guitars and Vocal Sounds!!! This Band embodies CRUNCH!!!” – Patrick Loisel – Guitarist for AUGURY“This is by far the finest (first?) metal band out of Dubai since…well, ever. Nephelium’s debut album, Coils of Entropy hits you and hits you HARD. If you’re in the mood for something a bit more angry yet focused at the same time, this is for you. Don’t let the fact that you’ve never heard of this band force you to not get this. I don’t care where you get it (from KZSC perhaps?) just go and listen to this now. Dammit.” – KZSC 881.FM – Santa Cruz, Califronia

Dubai may be known as a city rich in history, a business hub and the home of the tallest structure in the world, but it’s also the birthplace of one of the first death metal bands to come out of the Middle East.
Dubai is where, in the late 1990s, guitarist Alex Zubair and drummer Alan Madhavan came together to form Nephelium, guided by the sole vision of a band comprised of equal parts complexity and brutality.
Staying true to the roots of death metal, Nephelium was quick to forge ahead with experimentation, pulling in influences from metal and other genres.
With the hope of spreading Nephelium’s insidious gospel across the world, Zubair and Madhavan settled in Toronto, Canada where they completed the band’s lineup and immediately began playing shows and tearing up local stages, which quickly led to opening slots for metal heavyweights Skinless and Deicide.
Following a tumultuous journey spanning ten years, two continents and countless lineup changes, Nephelium is ready to once again give the death metal world a good shaking with the release of their debut album, Coils of Entropy.
The embodiment of Nephelium’s journey to striking the perfect balance between technical death metal, old school metal and Arabian melodies, Coils of Entropy is a six-track masterpiece set to breathe new life into today’s dwindling death metal landscape.

About:
Initially never planning to release his music compositions beyond the borders of just song writing, freelance drummer / instructor Sean Lang was urged by his circle of musician friends whom heard his material to take his creativity to the next level.
The outcome is Seven Year Storm, which showcases Lang’s unique sound, music arrangements written entirely by him plus guitarist Dean Lamb (Archspire) whom handles all of the mind-bending guitar leads and solos. Everything comes together into songs that are tight and heavy, melodic and groovy, technical yet memorable.
To get these works of art off the studio floor, Lang launched an Indiegogo campaign (video can be viewed here) to raise the necessary investment to complete the first collection of songs, which will be released in 2015 as two EPs: Aion I and Aion II.

Interview on Global TV Montreal + Performance – Metal Monday – http://globalnews.ca/video/1254567/metal-monday
“…newcomers Mire should be considered the heirs to the Tool throne with their latest record, Inward Outward is about as close to Tool as you can get without being Tool. Musically and sonically, Mire are spot-on with the psychedelic metal we’ve all become so accustomed to and you’re guaranteed to zone out listening to the record. If you were to get into the right state of mind before listening to the record, you’d be guaranteed a pleasant trip- or a really adventurous one. Vocally, you’d almost think you’re listening to Maynard James Keenan halfway through the record and you’re gonna lose yourself in it if you immerse yourself in the listening experience. Inward Outward is the perfect appetizer to the upcoming Tool album that may or may not get released in the near future and fans who are desperate for something fresh will feel right at home with Mire’s Inward Outward.” – The Front Row Report
“With Inward:Outward, MIRE has formed a soundscape that flows between mellow moods and mental turbulence, using the whole spectrum of sound as its playground. It is emotional, striking, and addictively wonderful. You would be doing yourself a disservice not to, at the very least, download the free tracks offered by this promising young group.” – Barry Adkins – Target Audience Magazine
“If you’re a fan of Tool, Karnivool, A Perfect Circle, Dead Letter Circus, and similar sounding bands, then you should be pointing your ears towards Montreal, QC band Mire” – Bloody Disgusting
“Touted as being the heir apparent to the long vacant TOOL throne of progressive rock, Montreal’s Mire provide a convincing display of aptitude, depth and prowess, while sounding a LOT like TOOL. These complex compositions with delicate dynamics captured my attention from first listen and continue to provide satisfaction as more layers unfold.” – Maximum Ink Magazine
“While the world waits for the forthcoming Tool album (and we’ve been waiting a LONG time), everyone should do themselves a favor and grab a copy of Inward/Outward. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.” – Sea of Tranquility
“If you’re a fan of Tool, you will definitely enjoy Montreal/Quebec’s MIRE…To truly understand how incredible this album and this band is, you have to hear it for yourself. So, with that in mind, what are you waiting for?! Go out and pick your copy up and discover what happens when progressive rock is done right!” – New Transcendence
“Tool and Isis fans don’t have to feel abandoned by their bands anymore, because here is album that fully lives up to the standards of alternative metal giants like these. It is a very worthy appetizer if not replacement for what Isis has brought us and Tool will hopefully still bring us in the future.” – Lords of Metal
“If you are looking for an interesting sounding album which changes its landscape and sound with each passing song then you need to look no further.” – Kingston Music Reviews
“…a sophisticated style with fundamental guitars and classy quality vocals.” – Metal Temple
“This is an album of incredibly impressive music that is both haunting and uplifting in equal measure. The soaring audio landscapes are multi-layered, and the experience of listening to this album is a real emotional journey. It perfectly combines aggressive chunky guitars, melodic piano, and moments of all out angst and aggression. This is an album of hypnotizing prog-metal that just gets better with each and every listen. If you’re a fan of progressive rock / metal, this is highly recommended! Score: 9.0 out of 10” – All About The Rock
“Fans of bands like Tool, A Perfect Circle, Deftones and Porcupine Tree should feel right at home listening to this quintet out of Montreal QC…MIRE’s vocalist, J.P. Lachapelle, delivers a wide range of dynamics and emotion in his singing, from soft whispered parts to full-on intense screams. Like the bands that influenced them, MIRE has a firm grasp on the use of dynamics in their song writing, making each track more of a composition than just a song. They skillfully weave a sonic tapestry full of rich textures and vibrant colors, soft piano melodies that stitch effortlessly into some serious headbanging guitar riffs. Inward/Outward takes us on a journey through a musical landscape filled with compelling rhythmic patterns and thoughtful lyrical content…I think MIRE is a band to keep your eyes and ears on, and I look forward to seeing their territory grow.” – Rock Revolt Magazine
“This album is as heavy as hell when it needs to be, moody and introspective when it needs to be and very focused. There’s a lot of pounding, polyrhythmic drumming, “sensitive” vocals ala Maynard James Keenan (but not a total clone…they have their own idenity) and the pendulum-like swing between restrained tension and explosive riffing.” – Wormwood Chronicles
“The performance is very solid, and the drumming in particular is considerably dynamic, often providing tom-tom driven jungle beats and odd metered rhythms. The songwriting is also admirable, as every song is dynamic and complex in structure…this is a pretty good album. The music is on the alternative and introvert side, so do not expect shredding or bombastic epicness, but if you like progged up alternative metal which is rich in atmosphere, then you should give Mire a listen.” – Metal Music Archives
“Lyrically and thematically, it’s a hugely memorable album.” – Heavy Blog Is Heavy
“I adore this album and have now had it on three times and heard new bits that make me go ‘Ahhh!’ in satisfaction each time. Definitely one to buy, and definitely a band to watch out for.” – Wyrd Ways Rock Show Review
“Inward/Outward is an excellent first full-length declaration from MIRE, one which more than suggests that this is a band ready to rigorously seize the attention and appetite of progressive and melodic metal and hold it for a long time to come.” – RingMaster Review
“this progressive rock/heavy metal outfit has more then enough attitude to make a track like “Tyrannicide” sound legit while a more “commercial” number “Open Circle” could easily capture the attention modern rock radio listeners and catapult Mire all the way to the top! Helped out greatly by the powerful voice of lead singer J.P. Lachapelle, who, as far as rock front-man go, has the near-perfect blend of soulful-seduction, sexual charisma and street grit to cross the aisle between male and female listeners (something we’ve seen from Mick Jagger to Axl Rose!).” – Heavy Metal Time Machine
“Inward/Outward is an incredibly promising and very exciting debut album.” – Two Guys Metal Reviews
“As a whole, Mire have done something pretty special with this release. Showing that good things can come from Canada, Inward/Outward is some of the most thrilling and catchy prog I have heard in a while. Transcending trends like djent and this new wave of old school worship Mire make progressive metal the way it was meant to be played, with an energy seemingly torn from hell. Stick this on your speakers, crack a 2-4 (The best way to drink Canadian beer eh) and enjoy, worth many a spin Inward/Outward is an incredibly promising and very exciting debut album.” – Two Guys Metal Reviews
“Their sound is hypnotizing and the lyrics are thought provoking.” – Collectively Beautiful
“Euphoria and excitation; the path chosen by these five musicians is exceptional. Very positive and down to earth” – Journal L’Exemplaire
“They certainly leave their mark. They are a diamond in the rough. The perfect place to be. They certainly bring Prog Rock back and then push it forward to another dimension. Lead singer, J.P. has what it takes to rip your heart or leave a tear hanging desperately on the edge of your eyelash. MIRE’s album « Inward:Outward » is a damn good start.” – Curtains Up

mire
mīr/
noun
1. deep, wet, sticky earth.
2. a messy situation.
It may not seem like an obvious choice for a band name, but for Montreal progressive metal outfit MIRE, it represents the starting point for most of life’s greatest creations.
Just like the energy and chaos that transform a clump of gas into a star or the energy and chaos that give birth to a MIRE track.
Two years in the making, Inward:Outward is the result of ideas flying every which way around the recording studio, reflecting a wide range of backgrounds, from cognitive science to a military stint in Afghanistan by guitarist Dave Massicotte.
“We created this with our guts and have dared to explore a less common style of metal where the music is less obvious and sometimes requires the individual to have more than one listen before being able to grasp and really appreciate every musical element,” says guitarist Massicotte of the album.
“From big chunky guitar to light piano melody, every song will take you on a different journey and set of emotions.”
