“The track (Brawler’s Fracture) is plenty oppressive and hurtles into a hurt-inducing display of quick-draw drum blasts, atonal noise-rock riffery and the frightening howls of Hamilton. Though never letting up in its intensity, the back half of the track slows down the pace considerably, opting for more snail-paced gloom and doom and distorted vocals.” – Exclaim
“of Ash / of Shit / of Shame is the total package when it comes to music that evokes anger just as much as it creates a claustrophobic atmosphere. Densely packed together math riffs and hoarse vocals, shared equally among all four members of the band, sit side by side with dark, almost Tim Burton-esque moments of strings and piano manipulation” – Metal Injection
“More than a band, it’s a primal scream, a rejection of comfort, and a point of convergence for all extremes and abysses” – Metal Oddities
“Adolyne has a new album out, it’s really fucking good if abrasion, self-loathing, discord and flirtations with the edge of out of control gets you hard/wet.” – Decibel Magazine
“Geezus. I have no idea how these guys keep getting more and more extreme. Expect plenty of bizarre breakdowns and a good thrashing that’s not unlike a beating with a burlap sack full of rabid cats.” – Ominocity.com
“The most obnoxious, misanthropic album I heard all year, this is the perfect soundtrack to your daily Two Minutes Hate” – Adrien Begrand, Pop Matters/Basement Galaxy

After a series of false-starts, unceremonious firings and infantile rows, Adolyne officially assembled about a dozen years ago as a means to keep warm through the endless prairie winter that they were either too dumb to abandon or stubborn to admit defeat to. Less a product of their surroundings than a direct reaction to artistic absences in their immediate vicinity, the band spent their initial years harnessing vulgar sonic philosophy and a reactionary base-level onslaught into one of the most incendiary live shows in Western Canada. Noise-rock petulance, post-hardcore abandon, and a spiraling metallic thrust collide violently in to an animal that is as much merciless volume worship as it is nightmarish existential crisis.
Adolyne incites an ugly musical knife fight between 90’s Noise mongers from the heavier end of the Amphetamine Reptile fold and the brooding sonic theorists of the Hydra Head Industries class, while assorted voices from the post-hardcore and math-rock crowds goad them on with unsavory and dangerous advice. For those who haven’t the time or stomach to be entirely educated on the background of this savage rumble though, journalist and filmmaker Craig Silliphant was best able to express what to expect from Adolyne in his review which warned “Adolyne is a cathartic, primal force that will tear down your soul and spit it in your face….. It’s usually a cliché to say something defies categorization, but I’ll take a punch in the face before I’ll offer a definitive description of the music that Adolyne makes. It’s best to just get the hell out of the way.

0 The Rock Pit – Black Absinthe – Early Signals of Denial
“Canadian rockers Black Absinthe release their latest EP titled “Early Signs Of Denial” and it’s an EP you should check out. Ranging from classic metal like Black Sabbath to modern rock in Alice In Chains, add a bit of stoner rock, black metal and power metal and what you have is a varied mix of some great music at hand.”

About:
Anion was formed in early 2010 in a diesel soaked rehearsal space with one purpose – to create the music that its members wanted to hear. No scene points, no genre devotion – just a desire to create devastatingly heavy and ultimately ugly music. Riff driven and intense, the music stands apart with an underlying foundation of ugly and intense hardcore, healthy doses of abrasive noise rock and heavy sludge mixed in to create a unique sound that Anion are known for.
Their new EP/7” record entitled “Fractions of Failure” was released on May 20, 2016 via No List Records and features artwork by Demian Johnston (Great Falls/Playing Enemy). This EP, recorded by Jesse Gander at Rain City Studios, sees the recorded debut of new vocalist Sean Bouchard and new drummer Tristan Helgason (ex-Ghost of Modern Man, Molten Lava), elevating the band to a new level.
Anion’s last full length LP, entitled “Without Solace”, was released in September 2013 via No List Records on gatefold vinyl and digital formats. This album, recorded with legendary producer Matt Bayles (Botch, Mastodon, Isis) at Red Room studios in Seattle, WA, “Without Solace”.
Having played with bands such as Indian (Relapse), Helm’s Alee (HydraHead), Thrones (Southern Lord), Black Elk (Crucial Blast), KENmode (Profound Lore), and Ghostlimb (Vitriol), among many other well-known acts, Anion’s live shows are intense and abrasive. Not soon forgotten, they have gained notoriety for these live performances in various publications and websites such as Exclaim! and Beatroute.
With the digital Manolete EP, the Carrion King 7″ and the handcrafted Corpseflower cassette among their releases, Anion has had extremely favorable reviews in publications/sites such as Terrorizer, Maximum Rock and Roll, Exclaim!, Hellbound and more.

“all four tracks contain heavy doses of noise rock and sludge to form the band’s signature sound.” – Exclaim!
““Fractions of Failure” is an addictive blast that demands you to press play again before the dust can settle.” – SludgeLord
“holy fuck does this band shred…iff driven and intense, indeed the music stands apart with an underlying foundation of ugly and intense hardcore, with healthy doses of abrasive noise rock and heavy sludge mixed in to create a unique sound. Make no mistake if you’re a fan of Converge or Cult Leader, then you’re gonna love this band.” – SludgeLord
“Without Solace strikes a balance between overt slaughter and a pernicious, grating quality that whittles the listener down, leaving you raw in unexpected places. It’s easy to focus on the smouldering ruin of “Parathion Cocktail” or the off-kilter bellow of “Closetalker,” but it’s the creeping moments of gloom, as on “Rotting Bloom,” which sneak the knife in between the ribs. At once bloodier and more cunning than their last release, Without Solace is a strong piece of butchery.” – Exclaim! (Without Solace (2013) Album Review)
“A sonically abrasive Anion not only lives up to their namesake but also to the 2013 release,Without Solace.” – Beatoute BC
“Their noisy, angry, sludgy, pound-yer-face-in brand of aggression is best heard on the hissy 1980 sound of a cassette tape or on the warm and sweaty sound of vinyl.” – Terrorizer
“Another local band to keep an eye on, Vancouver’s Anion have dropped a punishing slab of hardcore in the way of their Carrion King seven-inch. Four songs striking a balance between stabby hardcore and slow-drain sludge, Carrion King is the perfect primer to the band and their vitriolic brand of sludgecore. A promising beginning for a band poised to do great things.” –Hellbound.ca
“And this is some riffy hardcore, almost a crossover of stoner metal and sludgy doom shit.” The Skinny Magazine
