Helleborus’s The Carnal Sabbath is pure fucking gold.  Fans of acts such as Wolves In The Throne Room, Vukari, and Obsequiae should love this prodigiously exceptional release as much as I do.

If you like old Jefferson Airplane, Yellow Submarine era Beatles and the like then you should dig the hell out of A Devil’s Din. I found it to be a lot of fun.

I really love a great power trio, and A Devil’s Din is a power trio that sound like a 5 piece. The record is good listening, with some songs needing undivided attention due to the poetic lyrical content. With that being said, Skylight is a record with many layers and deserves many listens.

About:

Canadian band CELESTIAL RUIN is styled after European Symphonic Rock/Metal but executed with a decidedly North American flavor. Combining a heavenly destruction of heavy riffs with beautiful melodies, CELESTIAL RUIN create catchy, singable melodies, and rich symphonic textures. The compositions are “epic” by all accounts. Lyrical themes are mainly drawn from fantasy and horror, sometimes implying deeper meanings, sometimes just celebrating the subject matter.
Based out of Vancouver, BC, CELESTIAL RUIN started taking the scene by storm with their debut album “The Awakening”. Receiving favorable reviews in publications such as Rockstar Weekly Magazine professing a 4/5 star rating declaring, “If The Awakening is only the beginning of things to come, you’d best get on board now while the getting’s good.”
After successful 2012 and 2013 summer tours, CELESTIAL RUIN was offered many opportunities that included opening slots with Stone Temple Pilots, Leaves Eyes, Moonspell and being a featured performer for Vancouver Alternative Fashion Week for two consecutive years.
CELESTIAL RUIN is always looking for the next unique avenue to expose their distinctive sound. “We play in the grey area of rock music, we are too heavy for rock, but not heavy enough for metal” comments vocalist Larissa Dawn.
This is a praise that has been mirrored in many live reviews including Beat Route Magazine stating, “Celestial Ruin appears to be in a sub-genre scene of one…their differences are working to their advantage”.
From September- December 2015 they completed a cross Canada tour (Out of Exile) and are now preparing for the release of their 2016 EP ‘Pandora’ produced by Joost Van Den Broek (Epica, Revamp, Xandria).
“As a significant jump forward from our debut album, from song writing to production, this EP was a journey that allowed to us grow, and we hope that fans will grow with us.” says Larissa Dawn.
A collaborative writing effort by CELESTIAL RUIN, the May 20th release of ‘Pandora’ will showcase the best of their best shared with fans new and old alike.

About:

Loud, unrelenting high voltage crust and roll. 2015 proves to be an exciting year for the Fredericton’s ambitious hell raisers Hard Charger. The Trio will embark on their first ever US tour which will see them play 40 plus shows in as many days. They will be heading south in support of their latest release, the 2014 split LP with Fargo North Dakota’s SOTOS. The album which was released on North Carolina label Bigger Boat Records has gotten favorable reviews on both sides of the border. “The riffs are sick and the headbanging is involuntary” says Los Angeles fanzine Razorcake. Also on the plate is a follow a up release. The band has been busy working on their third full length album which they hope to have out by the end of the year. “The new album is going to kill. It’s going to be the same sort of crusty rock and roll we’re known for but we’ve spent a lot more time crafting these songs than we have on any of our previous releases. It’s a whole new level of Hard Charger” says guitarist Dave Cook.

Since their inception in late 2006 Hard Charger has accomplished a lot. They didn’t start off playing local shows like most bands. Their first show was on their first tour and they have hit the road hard ever since. Playing hundreds of shows in every province in Canada and over a dozen countries in Europe on their four trips over seas. They are truly one of New Brunswicks biggest musical exports. Their first release was 2008’s self titled CD on Winnipeg’s No List Records. That album was soon after released in Europe on French label CounterAct Records. In the same year Nerve Hold Records released the Bombs Will Reign 7” and Capitol Kill Records released a split 7” with Ironfist. The second full length album, also released on No List Records, was 2011’s “This Machine is Driving” released on LP, CD, and cassette tape format. In 2013 they released the Chrome Lord 7″ on Primeval Sounds and their own label Waste Of Time Records. The Chrome Lord EP was also released on cassette tape by Ukrainian label Voices From Inside Records with two additional tracks which also appeared on Doomsday Machine Records 20 anniversary 4×7” box set.

With a plethora of releases and shows under their belt Hard Charger show no signs of slowing down any time soon.

Hard Charger is Tom, Dave, Shawn.

Skylight is driven with hooks, and melodies and sprawling lead playing. I bet seeing these guys play live in an open air festival would be quite the experience.

This is an album that takes risks in its incarnation of the most infamous music genre…It is a promising debut and an interesting angle to tackle the subgenre and you should not judge before you give them a listen because the whole is positively surprising.

After hearing their latest album, Pandora, it’s pretty obvious to hear the hard rock influence, the catchy melodies, and atmospheres, really deeming this album ‘epic’ of all sorts. …I was very much pleased with this release, probably one of the best vocal performances of the year for me.

This is very interesting black metal music. Atmosphere and black metal have been incorporated into surprisingly memorable songs of dark extreme metal…Greatness awaits Helleborus
